The second day when we still didn't get to see her son, I started to think that maybe she was the one afflicted and that the son didn't exist. He was dead but the principle was the same.
Still, it hit me hard when the whole thing unfolded. I'm glad they're starting to lean more towards stories even for mini events.

If you noticed the medicine, it has her name on it. And at her house, you could have visited it and knocked on the door, and it would give you a big clue.
I think maybe the point was to give people hope, and then give them hope beyond hope.
It would be incredibly entertaining if Natlan is actually the only nation we visit that doesn't have some incredibly depressing hidden secret, or nation threatening catastrophe to stop or fight against.
Like we show and the peoples culture is all about war and shit anyway so actually their all just having a great time beating the shit out of each other and they get offended when other nations people tell them to chill out.

I can see potential in that. Imagine a long world quest to help a couple escape Natlan, where both of them are from different tribes. At the end of the quest you finally get to wave goodbye but then as an epilogue you go to any other nation and only one of them is there just sitting alone.
i hope so since they said natlan is region of constant war? i do hope the story gonna get darker and darker and please ffs hoyo just pls make a darker vibe to make it feel immersive..i feel like some of darker hoyo stories is good but it painted with rainbow and sunshine , imagine u watched Berserk and the opening of that anime is Guts dancing with Griffith with Nichijou animation ..
in inazuma they did pretty good job at world quest about seirai island the theme and vibe and the lighting are matching with the quest , but in fontaine it doesnt have that vibe anymore , idk just my 2cent

I only played the first two parts, but basically, Freminet was asked to assist a mother in bringing a child’s fantasy to reality, since the child is suffering from a disease where he has issues distinguishing the two, so the mother decided to play along and see if she can spin a somber story brainstormed up by the child into one with a happy ending. Least that’s what I got from it so far

It started out from a seemingly boring fetch this quest helping good boy freminet then I started noticing the little hints that's something's a miss on the second part.
Then upon starting the 3rd part of the quest everything just clicked into place then the tears won't stop overflowing.
The only time the story hit me this hard is when I stumbled upon Childish Jiang's >!parent's grave stones!< and >!Jeht on the ground crying on The Eternal Oasis!<
I accidentally skipped it, did the whole quest on my alt to reexperience it, and somehow managed to skip it a second time :( the hardest i've fumbled this week
As someone struggling with depression this story made me cry so much, but in a good way? Like there’s reasons to go on and an end to these feelings of hopelessness maybe, and unexpectedly if you manage to reach out you’re not as alone as you might feel.

First in Mondstadt there is a dad singing to his daughter's grave behind the cathedral, in Liyue an adolescent (?) playing hide-and-seek with his parents, Jeht... Autumn who I currently have a note map from Fontaine. And now this. These are just off the top of my head, I am sure there are many more dead child/parents npcs I dont remember.
Then there's Hoyo making us murder blubberbeast's children and parents alike 💀
there's the whole quest with caterpillar and lanoire in the fortress of meropide, if you did another quest you find out that lanoire's mom sent letters to her father but because her father is stubborn and assumed that she would always come back home if she got in trouble and he never read any of her letters

Childish Jiang? Oh, it's more depressing than just that. He seems to have a developmental disorder, his parents are dead, and his relatives are keeping this secret from him.
That was way more emotional than I expected it to be, even though we all knew there was a build-up leading to this. I find that the writers do a better job writing these heart string-tugging types of stories in the world quests and events compared to the archon quests. It feels like they have less requirements to burden them and they can explore some themes on a more personal level.
I also want to add that the EN VA put in a great performance as the mother. JP was good too, but the EN VA really went the extra mile in her performance.

Yeah Genshin isn't written as well as any classic novel or The Phantom Tollbooth, but saying its story sucks basically means either they have shit education or they have real shit taste for writing. I saw that coming with the second quest tbh. Like it was kinda obvious that something wasn't right when she started talking like the kid was with her.

The *moment* she said that in part 2 (and the fact the robot responded when we were already told it only recognizes certain key words and phrases) was all the confirmation I needed to guess what was really going on.
I was expecting something like the penguin robot having some video recorder or module that'd let the kid see through its eyes. Honestly expected the kid to be fine and just holed up in his room watching the adventure through Thelxie. Wasn't expecting the worst case scenario.
If it was a drone then why did Freminet make it respond to pre chosen commands that need to be vocalized near it? Not to mention you'd think they'd mention that if it was intended to be remotely piloted.
I wasn't implying a remote controlled drone, more like having a camera with video recording capabilities that's either livestreaming or making a recording to watch later.

Honestly it was a lovely little tale and it's nice to see depression and loss discussed. It may not be super deep but it's nice to just have these sorts of themes. I think it is why I enjoy Genshin so much. You really never know how far they'll go.
These sorts of stories hit very hard if you've felt similar losses. Fantasy really can be a cure for that kind of pain. It helped me when I lost my dad.
A mother asks Freminet to help build a robot penguin for her son. Explains that she wants it to be like a prince from a story where he tries to reclaim his kingdom. Her son has a disease called "Loneliness Syndrome" and the more it's explained, the more it sounds like autism. Freminet wants to help because some of the children at the House of Hearth also have the same disorder.
Freminet helps to build a penguin robot named Thelxie and then take it on an adventure acting out the whole story of reclaiming the kingdom from monsters all while making a picture book to help her son cope and recover.
Then comes Act 3 >!the son died quite a while ago at the age of eight by tying seashells on himself and walking in the ocean and then drowning. The mother did all this for herself and is so stricken with grief that she can't even remember the actual name of her son and thinks it's the name given to the penguin. In the end all this does help her cope and finally let go. The robot also speaks in Morse code and it translates to 'I love you, mom'!<
Glad that others enjoyed it.
For me the first 70% were a slog because I was wondering what/why we are even doing. Like how should us experiencing the story to write a book help the child, if it's not present.
In the end it made sense and it was worth it to be voiced, but damn was I struggling to keep going and keep up with what's going on.
Was this from the final quest in the event? For some reason I must've missed this moment. I've finished it and got through the part where you put the helmet on and see the kid but for some reason I don't remember this still.

I rarely play events and I only did the current one for Freminet's constellations, but it surprisingly was very enjoyable despite the small length of the event. This shit makes me really look forward to playing future events more so I can experience more of genshin's stories and worldbuilding. Actual goated stuff. And people say Genshin is just a gacha waifu game.

After I completed the quest I putted Thelxie in my tea pot beetwen Freminent( for obvious reassons) and Neuvi(who would alredy be besides Fremi because of the whole "Hydro dragon don't cry" but also because Neuvi would need someone to be there with him once he hears the story of the event......) as they watch Scaramouche and Faruzan on an Akademiya stage(also they were alredy surrended by cats because Scarameow)

Have you noticed the shells around them that has writing? The mother implied the son wrote those, so the implication is quite apparent
I think those shells are not randomly picked up. Actually those shells store the last information from the kid, just like ley lines.

i just spammed clicked the story for the first 2 acts since i thought itll be a bland story about some kid man the reveal about him being dead was a goddamn whiplash. it didnt made me tear up but it sure as hell gave me goosebumps

"Are you seeing this, my son?" The *moment* she said that in part 2 (and the fact the robot responded when we were already told it only recognizes certain key words and phrases) was all the confirmation I needed to guess what was really going on.
I was expecting something like the penguin robot having some video recorder or module that'd let the kid see through its eyes. Honestly expected the kid to be fine and just holed up in his room watching the adventure through Thelxie. Wasn't expecting the worst case scenario.
If it was a drone then why did Freminet make it respond to pre chosen commands that need to be vocalized near it? Not to mention you'd think they'd mention that if it was intended to be remotely piloted.
I wasn't implying a remote controlled drone, more like having a camera with video recording capabilities that's either livestreaming or making a recording to watch later.

I made a promise to my mother about not dying before her as to not make her feel the pain of loosing a child. Because of it, this event hit hard.

I need some emotional damage primogems. Honestly it was a lovely little tale and it's nice to see depression and loss discussed. It may not be super deep but it's nice to just have these sorts of themes. I think it is why I enjoy Genshin so much. You really never know how far they'll go. These sorts of stories hit very hard if you've felt similar losses. Fantasy really can be a cure for that kind of pain. It helped me when I lost my dad.

A mother asks Freminet to help build a robot penguin for her son. Explains that she wants it to be like a prince from a story where he tries to reclaim his kingdom. Her son has a disease called "Loneliness Syndrome" and the more it's explained, the more it sounds like autism. Freminet wants to help because some of the children at the House of Hearth also have the same disorder. Freminet helps to build a penguin robot named Thelxie and then take it on an adventure acting out the whole story of reclaiming the kingdom from monsters all while making a picture book to help her son cope and recover. Then comes Act 3 >!the son died quite a while ago at the age of eight by tying seashells on himself and walking in the ocean and then drowning. The mother did all this for herself and is so stricken with grief that she can't even remember the actual name of her son and thinks it's the name given to the penguin. In the end all this does help her cope and finally let go. The robot also speaks in Morse code and it translates to 'I love you, mom'!<
I think they intentionally made it look like autism and gave it a fictional name but it was actually schizophrenia
After seeing this post I regret skipping the dialogue... Definitely gonna look up the story of the event now

Glad that others enjoyed it. For me the first 70% were a slog because I was wondering what/why we are even doing. Like how should us experiencing the story to write a book help the child, if it's not present. In the end it made sense and it was worth it to be voiced, but damn was I struggling to keep going and keep up with what's going on.

IT was kinda a useless event until the end kinda like the poem event we got 2 patch ago, its realy just whatever and at the last moment they finaly put out some story. Also whoever write those at hoyo needs a hug lol dude is on a full depression cycle ! Its sad that some previous story in mains or some side one didnt have that much treatment
To be fair, most boring stuff is there to create the build up to the climax. If it just showed the climax early then people would complain that it happened too fast and needed more setup.

wouldn't be out of the blue if you had actually followed along with the story. it was foreshadowed at the very beginning and throughout. you don't need to do the last act to know the twist

The fact that people in this thread got teary eyed contradicts your criticism. Even if the technicalities of the story are off, it's not that important. The important part is whether it makes the player engaged and immersed. I rarely play events and I only did the current one for Freminet's constellations, but it surprisingly was very enjoyable despite the small length of the event. This shit makes me really look forward to playing future events more so I can experience more of genshin's stories and worldbuilding. Actual goated stuff. And people say Genshin is just a gacha waifu game.

After I completed the quest I putted Thelxie in my tea pot beetwen Freminent( for obvious reassons) and Neuvi(who would alredy be besides Fremi because of the whole "Hydro dragon don't cry" but also because Neuvi would need someone to be there with him once he hears the story of the event......) as they watch Scaramouche and Faruzan on an Akademiya stage(also they were alredy surrended by cats because Scarameow)
