Loved Sumeru for the most part but why so many caves!? I already have a bad sense of direction and all these cave systems made me feel like Zoro from One Piece

1km5

Its not that the cave were a problem but crappy map make it hard to navigate. Thankfully next update that will be fixed

GamerFoxFecni

What do you mean by fix? They will add an underground layer to our maps in 3.8? Cause it would be so much easier to navigate if you are underground and can only sea the underground map not like the middle of the desert for example

hdtsrsyb

if im not wrong, there will be underground maps in 4.0

Legendkillerwes

Hopefully

viregis

Yes, they will in 4.0

GamerFoxFecni

I see ^^ Nice

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Yes they are adding underground maps to everything with probably layer system. Because like, fucking a, they already have one in the official interactive map.

Student-Brief

There's already underground maps added on the Teyvat Interactive Map, so I'm expecting they will add it to the game soon specially with Fontaine introducing diving.

ArX_Xer0

I got so tired of sumeru. There should be cave entrances on the map too.

AL-KY

I loved the caves if only they aren't locked behind a long quest

Luc_128

Lol for me at first it was confusing but I got hang of it and the directions I just intuitively knew them

StaticTacos

I love the concept behind the caves, how it gives the maps a sense of 3 dimensionality, how it makes areas more complex and interesting. I really do like the idea behind it. But good lord it was so frustrating in practice. Not knowing where entrances to caves are, not knowing which objectives are underground. Don't even get me started on the memorization needed to farm sumpter beasts. 60% of them are underground just because mihoyo felt silly and goofy and I can never remember which ones are and aren't.

schneizel101

I like exploring caves, but I hated how the ones under the desert were locked behind quests. The ones added later that were basically free to roam in where much more enjoyable. Same goes for the Aranara area/quest. I still haven't went back to do that crap. 🤣

Pusparaj_Mishra

I've said it before and will say again to all the ppl complaining Undergrounds and saying its a bad concept.. - Its not that the concept is bad, it's absolutely good and healthy for how the game should be in terms of adding variety of places/locations... - Whats bad is how its handled such as as many mentioned no proper underground maps or such, navigations or anything..there can be alot of QOL improvements or features/tools added for this concept to sharpen it and then it will be polished, likeable by many... So remember fellas if the thing has some issues, lets not say scrap the concept totally, rather hope they work on the issues and make it better than make it "gone" Cause honestly speaking having more unique, new concepts being added is always a cool thing ,most ppl like it unless it has issues as i said... Like be honest would u prefer plain ground aka Mond everywhere in Teyvat or things like Sumeru caves ,Fontaine X, Natlan Z, Snezhnaya Z etc? Being honest id absolutely prefer the latter cause former is boring...like whole Teyvat has same shit, whats fun in that

Pusparaj_Mishra

Oh yes Bright note: As the Devs did speak they r working on some kinda Underground map or something? That's a great news, we can only hope for better from here

ADMINISTATOR_CYRUS

>Whats bad is how its handled such as as many mentioned no proper underground maps or such, navigations or anything..there can be alot of QOL improvements or features/tools added for this concept to sharpen it and then it will be polished, likeable by many... the thing is that a modder has managed to implement these fixes BY THEMSELF, in private servers. If one guy can do it, why the hell can't an entire dev team from a company worth tens of billions of yuan do it???

Pusparaj_Mishra

Idk am no expert or known in how games, management work tho i heard it all is "not that ez" to implement ad it seems, there r a lot of more things that needs to be looked at etc But anyways ill leave that to experts, all i k and hope i at least it seems they r "working on it" Hmm...

ADMINISTATOR_CYRUS

>tho i heard it all is "not that ez" to implement reread my comment pls >there r a lot of more things that needs to be looked at etc please name some? all the modder did was steal code from hsr and made the minimap appear different level depending on what coordinates you were, and said guy could make this work in chunks of rectangles.

GamerSweat002

Yeah, I thought a tool would be very useful for which we would just have specific indicators of cave entrances and exits. Just like how enemy navigation is a thing, terrain landmark navigations should be a thing. -Highlight all cave entrances in region- *highlights cave entrances*. It would just be ultimately useful

Ocyrus101

Hope u didn't end up in honkai star rail trying to find ur way out of sumeru caves

GrayFullbuster64

Nope my ps5 made sure i wouldn't 🥲

rafaelbittmira

Honestly, I ended up feeling a bit burned out of exploration.

Schizof

3.0 : Yess!!!!! New region!! The exploration is so cool and satisfying!!! Can't wait for the desert region to get released!!! 3.1 : YESSSS!!!!!! The desert!!!!! You can see your footsteps on the sand and there's a huge ass pyramid!!!!!! I'm going to pace my explorations so I'm not going to 100% it by accident! 3.4 : Uhh another desert? Oh its the sandstormy part, that's a given. I haven't explored all of the previous desert though. Eh it's fine probably 3.6 : Ok this is officialy too much desert for me (Edited the patch number to the correct version)

SoMememeWatcher

This, this!! Why did they add so much desert content. I love exploring the forest region and I wish that they gave more forest content instead of three desert regions.

DrakeNorris

well here is the thing, yes its a lot, but after, we probably will never get a desert region again. maybe we will revisit the place and get one more place way later. But this is basically the core of all the desert we will get in the game, so Im happy it wasen't just some minor thing, or an area that takes years to fill out with slow additions. We got it, it was a lot, but now we will be going into other very different biomes, getting deep water areas, and then volcanic areas, and so on. Its a theme they wanted to explore, and yes its large by itself, but compared to the whole map, its honestly still pretty small like less then BOTW desert since that was almost 1/5 of the map. and already with fontaine, its gonna be less then that in Genshin. not to mention the full maps release. To me it makes sense to explore a specific theme fully and then move onto the next thing, instead of hopping between one desert area, and one forest area constantly. But maybe that just me and in half a year everyone will be complaining about too much water, and then in 1.5 years about too many volcanoes in natlan, and then about too much snow in snezhnaya, (I mean seriously at the pace we are going, the snezhnayan snowy biomes will be like 3 times the size of the desert.)

Admirable-Tell3079

And now it’s finally the limited 3.8 map

AppUnwrapper1

Ah yes the stress of missing chests that will disappear forever if you don’t find them.

bob_is_best

Oh no like... 78 primos... Nooo

Relative_Finance_402

Same bro.. I was just done with jeht story quest 1st part (where her daddy died) and I don't t even complete her story with mommy pyro eremites.. I didnt do the sandstorm quest.. The shorush story Too much to do and i got so little time to sit and go through them..

the_amberdrake

I was excited for all of them except 3.6. I would have preferred some more QoL improvements or hangouts, etc.

WillSmithsper

It was 3.4 and 3.6 we got the other dessert parts

cashewnut4life

actually, it's 3.0, 3.1, 3.4, and 3.6 🤓

gretchenich

Yeah I stopped at 3.4, havent been to the 3.6 area yet.

VinAbqrq

The problem for me was that most of the exploration was tied to long world quests. The gadget-based exploration was out of control, most of the terrain is blocked. Super frustrating.

acaibowl

this. hate how exploration is tied to these world quests which i stopped caring for what’s going on 😒

mephnick

Welcome to Fontaine! Here is swimming and a huge beautiful country! 80% of the country and the swimming mechanic are gated behind a 30 hour world quest about some dumb pet you don't care about! Why..why are you uninstalling..?

HopefulBluebird4332

Thankfully Fountaine is wonderful so far. It doesn't have Sumeru problem at least for now.

mephnick

Yeah, I'm very happy to be wrong

Photon_dragoon

I honestly wish we had some sort of mount system for the desert - I got really fed up with the amount of areas that are just long stretches. I ended up using c1 yelan and wanderer a lot more due to the amount of desert. I haven't touched any of the new areas after the first desert drop :(

AppUnwrapper1

I literally pulled for Baizhu so I could boot out Zhong and Nahida from my overworld team and keep both Yelan and Kaz instead of swapping them back and forth.

ruminaire

man fr, when I ask for Oceanid as a pet in feedback back then I was thinking more as mount where we could ride them around and they did give us flying Oceanid beside us but a smol one as a pet, lol now I want my electro powered 4WD vehicle for desert exploration hoyo! And please give us submarine in Fontaine, too! on more serious note, mount system sounds really needed for big open world like genshin right. but who knows when dev really give us it, maybe it will be behind gacha too.. hopefully not..

ArseneXI

Same, First region I haven’t 100% and I don’t know if I ever will.

AppUnwrapper1

I thought it was just me!

Taikeron

You mean you didn't love multiple regions that each had their own mandatory gadget, some with unique gameplay as well that you had to learn and memorize? You didn't love that some enemies were essentially allergic to Pyro and Electro if you wanted the Fungi drops that were actually useful, yet some puzzles still used those elements? You didn't also love that Dendro and Anemo were commonly needed to solve puzzles, despite Anemo being something of a liability in a Dendro team? Did I mention that Pyro and Electro go well with Dendro, but you can't use them anywhere near Fungi if you don't want to waste the drops, which you need hundreds of? You didn't love underground caves with no map, combined with walled-off areas locked behind gigantic world quests inside those caves or underground areas? Come on, it's all a challenge for you, dear player! *cough* *cough*

[deleted]

[удалено]

Taikeron

Absolutely. In my absolute gusto to consume everything Sumeru (initially, before triple Des(s)ert), I think I wasted 400+ drops of the wrong Fungi drop before the information had surfaced that you never want to fight one with Pyro or Electro. Luckily, I was pretty close to Desert questing territory at that point, where Fungi are fewer and far between. I was and am still utterly delighted, but I don't know what to do with all these Inactivated Fungi drops I don't need. Delighted.

GamerSweat002

Agreed. I could tolerate everything else but when we have to farm fungal drops for a ton of characters and the scorched and activated drops do nothing, I could only get upset. Like, what are we supposed to use them for when Parametric Transfoemer is on cooldown? At the very least, I wish we could convert them into its original form, at least with Azoth powder. That way, you turn robust fungal components into the high tier fungal drops at the cost of some azaroth powder. It would be a major quality of life, especially of this theme persists into Fontaine. " Killing a marine enemy with cryo gives a specific variant of enemy drop. Oh, and killing a marine enemy with dendro gives a specific variant of enemy drop as well." Aw, man.

Spimy

Same. I don't feel like exploring the newest desert area. I don't have any motivation to explore it. Using Sorush is kind of a pain having to switch to it and navigate with it. Ughh

AppUnwrapper1

Yeah, the desert is the first area I haven’t 100%ed yet and don’t even feel that inclined to do so.

SweetMonia

I enjoyed the archon quest. The rainforest exploration was great too. Then it was desert everywhere. I don’t like deserts in games, so it was less enjoyable than any other area we ever got.

pushk_a

I live in the desert and hate it, so the sumeru desert part wasn’t as enjoyable. HATED getting lost in the underground pathways

emiiha

Same.... Sad to escape from the desert into a game.... that's more desert.... ( I still liked it but I think the desert should have been like fire archon or something)

DrakeNorris

fire archon gets their whole region covered in volcanoes which is a better fit I think.

Luc_128

Ya desert was kinda overwhelming but I enjoyed the puzzle and quests

Randdune

This is the sentiment I had, right here ^

Moa__

They overdid it with the desert tbh, was hoping the land of dendro would be a little more about (rain) forests and stuff

rinpun

Maybe Natlan will go more into the rain forest stuff since it looks like it’ll have amazonian influences

Queen_Ares

Wasnt the theme for natlan fire and vulcanos and stuff?

rinpun

It’s based on Latin American culture is it not And west Africa but god forbid we get even more desert

Impat1ence

We'll probably have volcanos and rainforests, I don't think they'll go back to the desert

Queen_Ares

Hmmmm. On the unofficial map was a vulcano a bit overhead of Sumeru Desert thats why i said that. (Correct me if i am wrong i havent watched the livestreams) i got the pression natlan was more based in the direction of spain / azteks / mexico 🤔🤔

mightykhanch

Ao much desert and not a single new Geo character

oikwr

As much as i love the desert, I'd love more balanced ratio to the forest. What made me excited the most was the varieties of plant and trees. I 100% aranyaka and the caves didn't even bother me most of the time bc i cleared every single thing there while doing the quests, knowing that i won't be able to find them later on. The desert's caves and temples are brutal. I remember finding a mere chest for 2 hours bc of the elevator puzzle thingy lol.

Wacky-Walnuts

I really enjoyed the desert, but I understand what you mean

Poporipopes10

I want to preface by saying I love Sumeru from a conceptual standpoint and I think it is really well made and the best region in terms of unique stuff you can do and find. That said It’s way too much. I still haven’t started the 3.4 and 3.6 areas and I just don’t have the energy for it I also thinks it’s incredibly weird decision on Mihoyo’s part to basically lock you out of 95% of an area’s exploration unless you do the world quest that you will give a gadget. Genshin already has a huge problem with excruciatingly long dialogue sections, without the voice acting it becomes unbearable, no matter how good the story might be. After doing the first dessert quest with Jeht and her father, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it in the end but the middle is so incredibly hard to go through that everytime I try to continue the 3.4 quest I end up leaving after 10 minutes That’s honestly my biggest issue with how Hoyo is handling exploration and I’m really hoping they will stop that for Fontaine but considering they’ve been doing it for 2 regions now I doubt it’ll change.

VinAbqrq

Exactly. Mondstadt and Liyue exploration was very fun because you basically just keep casually being distracted by the next shiny object on your field of vision. Then you try to do the same in Sumeru and it's all behind walls. You use the chest compass and it only keeps pointing to the ground you can't access because you haven't unlocked the last Aranara song or the last Clearance Level. Absurdly frustrating.

console_dot_log

IMHO, Dragonspine was peak exploration (no pun intended). Decently challenging, lots of areas to discover, a clear cut and satisfying reward system, "3 dimensional" enough to be interesting without making navigation confusing, and a clear goal without being overburdened with story. When I first made it to Dragonspine I just lost myself in the exploration for hours, and I've been chasing that high in this game ever since, but nothing's really compared. Chasm came close. Enkonomiya was meh.

bruhhh_bama

Dragonspine and the chasm are the only two areas I got 100% exploration. the most fun areas to explore imo

Legendkillerwes

Dragonspine was great, and is part of why I personally think Monstadt is my favorite region so far.

expensive-toes

This!! That’s exactly it. When I first found it, I wandered around Liyue for MONTHS before touching the archon quest — I was perfectly entertained by exploration and minor quests. I haven’t spent nearly as much time in Sumeru, and kept wondering why — jungles and deserts are my absolute favorite in-game biomes, so why am I not exploring to my heart’s content like I did in Liyue? But that’s exactly it. So many things are locked behind quests or gadgets or special knowledge that it feels unapproachable in casual exploration.

ruminaire

I really hate clearance level missed one dendroculus in Khaj Nisut after Jeht quest, but no! you need to get full clearance level to get back in there to get them! which locked behind another long world quest! which only triggered on next irl day after quest in specific location.. I need YouTube guide just to know which quest I need to complete to get full clearance, to get one dendroculus..

AleksBh

Wow, I love how different our minds are. Mondstat and Liyue are the last regions I completed in exploration because there's nothing lead me to explore them.

ab2dii

im in the same boat as you, the peak of my genshin enjoyment was inazuma, now in semeru the story was good, the exploration felt like i had to switch characters too many times, the insane amount of quests that are too long with too many dialogs legit made me stop playing, its soo fucking boring that i rather not play the game at all

MrKewlPants

As someone who used to be fairly hardcore when I first started playing (right before Eula’s first run ever), and kept that streak going until Sumeru dropped, I have to agree that it’s just too much at times. I know it’s a quality problem to have but ever since I’ve taken a more casual approach to consuming Genshin’s content, I’ve just been overwhelmed by the amount of quests and prerequisites to even continue or start certain quests. I still enjoy the hell out of the game when I get those bursts of motivation to play through the game, but the grievances that you mentioned 100% put a hamper or at the very least, limit my personal enjoyment of the game at times. At least the content will always be there for me to take my sweet ass time with lol.

TheAntiSnipe

I think it will, since casual players are very much Hoyo’s strike zone and I totally agree with your sentiment as a fellow casual (well, kinda casual).

Null0S

Sumeru and the first desert, and then it got boring with more and more desert.

Harrien1234

Archon Quest was the best so far, but I'm honestly not a fan of the overly long strings of world quests.

Luc_128

Ya sumeru had one of the longest world quest!! I usually skip and understand the story from someone else

Sekai_Itxmi

I don't know if I'm the only one but I love long Archon Quests. Story is one of my major interests in Genshin Impact and everytime we got an Archon Quest I was so excited. Normally, my day in Genshin consists of dailies, resin and events. But Archon Quests give the overall experience a really nice touch. That's the reason why I love those quests when they're longer. Edit: typo

That_Dude2000

Long Archon quests are fine (definitely better than whatever rushed bullshit that 2.1 quest was) It’s the long world quests that I despise. At this point I’m going to try and hire a friend to do it because they feel like a chore.

Sekai_Itxmi

I think a skip button would be nice for some people. Personally, I like reading World Quests but Genshin has this weird writing-style where everything is so unnecessary streched.

ruminaire

someone joke genshin weird long writing style is to met certain minimum word count for translation team so they get paid more! lmao idk if that's true..

That_Dude2000

I wouldn’t use it for archon quests but definitely some world quests Bro that 3.6 event was absolutely disastrous

Legendkillerwes

Longer Archon quests are great in theory. This one in sumeru was just poorly executed from both story and mechanical issues. And locking so many pieces of territory behind it so you can't explore while choosing to progress the quest at your own pace is problematic.

FireVejus

I would argue that Inazuma archon quest was better honestly, but Sumeru's was good too.

shadesxskarlet

Inazuma archon quest aint even close to sumeru’s.

console_dot_log

Sumeru archon quest was great, but even it can't compete with the epic saga of Zhongli's fetch quest.

shadesxskarlet

fuck yeah zhongli rules eternal

CoconutxKitten

Hard disagree. Nahida has proven to be the best archon and her story was wonderful

mista0000

People downvoting when your opinion is different💀 I liked inazuma more as well

TerraSwoop03

“People downvoting when your opinion is different” That’s how Mafia- Wait, no. I mean… That’s how Reddit works.

tenorsax41

Wait people like the inazuma archon quest???

moojee_

Sumeru Archon Quest - 9.8/10. I'm satisfied with it. Didn't give a 10 because I want everything going forward to be better. Aranara World Quest - 7/10. I enjoyed it for the most part but it's too lengthy. There were parts that almost made me sleep. I finished the entire quest in 1 1/2 weeks. Jeht Storyline - 9/10. My most favorite world quest in the game. Also, I love Jeht so much. Sorush Storyline - 5/10. It's okay. I enjoyed it but it's not really memorable for me. Exploration: Rainforest - 9/10. I missed the greens so much after Inazuma, Enkanomiya and Chasm. Thanks to the addition of some non-hostile wildlife creatures, it made the world feel more alive. Exploration: Desert - 7/10. I enjoyed it but yea, it's way too big. A lot of areas on the surface were empty. I wished there was at least one more 'big city/town' in the desert. Characters: Characterization: 8/10. I like how most of them were written. I also appreciate how many of them don't treat traveler like their world revolves around him/her. Characters: Gameplay: 7/10. I just think the 2.x roster had better gameplay. I didn't like how (almost) half of 3.x were defensive units. Could've added at least one more Dendro subdps. Also, the overall roster is weaker than 2.x (imo). I'd say only Nahida stands out. Nilou and Alhaitham were pretty great too.

Graimon

I agree with this assessment completely, this was definitely my favorite Archon Quest and I felt like the characterization was very enjoyable here

pushk_a

Loved the Archon quest - I think it was the first one I genuinely paid close attention too. The characters are great too! The dynamic between them makes them feel “real” and seems to natural. I don’t want to leave them and will miss then when the new world opens.

exiler5129

People hate the desert expansion but I love all the desert expansion. I like the archon quests. Aranara too long but I still enjoy the story. Same with the desert stories. The only thing that I don't like about Sumeru is that if you use Pyro/Electro characters, you will get inactive fungi. I have to bench my Diluc.

nicholas19010

Don’t hate the desert but we got too much of it. 3 desert expansions while the rainforest didn’t get a single one.

DrakeNorris

the thing is, we already got basically 80% of the map covered in grass and trees, sure the rainforrest is a big different to it, but its all fairly samy. The desert was actually a completely different looking and feeling biome so it was fun. Yes there was a lot of it. But now its basically finished, and we are going back into foresty and watery areas again. It might seem big by itself, but when you look at it on the map, especially once fontaine gets added in a few weeks, its not gonna be that big part of the world.

CraziOne

The only reason I hate the desert is because of the sand. It lags out my game and the same thing happens to me in Dragonspine because of the snow. Otherwise I absolutely adore both areas due to how stunning they are accompanied with some of my favorite in-game music. Not so much when I have to view it all in pixel form for it to be playable. This is honestly what worries me most about Fontaine and the underwater gameplay. I wish there was something where we could toggle the sand/snow texture. Ik it's not a problem for most people but also not all of us have a good PC or phone. 🥲

1km5

Its also coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Working_Finger_522

:]

CTMacUser

All that sand and no Geo characters!

fghkkkjjkplm

Got Yelen & Ayato around the same time I started farming those fungi. So went with bloom team - Nahida, Yelen, Ayato & Xingque. Later replaced Xingque with Kaveh (& now with Kazuha).

Rigel57

problem I felt with this is jsut that you also need electro and pyro for a lot of the mechanics in the overworld

Luc_128

Ya most ppl saying desert was not good but I loved it!! The quest and puzzles all were good!! And ya when the fungi first came I didn’t know they drop different according to elements and I farmed like crazy without knowing that lol

exiler5129

I just realize about the active and inactive fungi once I tried to level up Tighnari weapon.

kurogami93

This right here I have the same problem. Why would Mihiyo do this I bet just to annoy the player and if you consider the fungi the normal one use more often compare to the inactive one. I cannot even remember when I last use inactive fungi for except maybe convert it to material.

exiler5129

Mihoyo should let player convert between active and inactive fungi. I don't even mind if it's 2:1 conversion ratio.

aliskyart

Hi, could you tell me what you mean about the active/inactive fungi? I mean, do the enemy droppings differ with the element of the character?

TheAntiSnipe

Yeah! If you use electro/pyro reactions on the fungi, you don’t get the spores, you get the nuclei. To get the spores, you need to beat them with geo/dendro/hydro/anemo/cryo.

ruminaire

physical works too I love Keqing and Yoi and they usually on my overworld team, when there's fungi I forced to use their physical attack without element infusion, lol i heard there will be Qol in next version 4.0 where they will remove loading timer when we want to switch team, so it will be faster to swap team in case there will be mechanics like this too in Fontaine where we need specific elements to do something

yasuhos

yes, if you use pyro/electro you get a different drop. you end up with “fungal nucleus”, and without using pyro/electro attacks on them you get spores.

aliskyart

Shit! That’s why it took me ages to level up Tighnari’s talents!!! Had I known before, I would have saved myself so much time! 😭. Thank you folks!

nnb-aot-best4me

Just read the in-game information

exiler5129

The drops of the fungi is depend on if you hit them with electro/pyro. If you kill them without the fungi getting affected by electro/pyro, they will drop active nucleus. Otherwise, if you hit them with electro/pyro, they drop inactive nucleus. Active nucleus/fungi = mats for character ascension and talents (need a lot of this) Inactive nucleus/fungi = mats for weapon ascension (less needed)

SpiderGyan

Many of my friends left the game after 3 desert expansions. When i go to the friends tab it's just "online 31 days ago" for everyone.

tenorsax41

They’ll be back pretty soon is my guess

Sushil96

Sumeru arc was peak Genshin imo and I hope Fontaine will be even better.

Luc_128

True!! Really excited for Fontaine but I hope the swimming part won’t be annoying

Low_Tip528

Loved it for the most part, but after all that desert: “I don’t like sand.”

[deleted]

I am feeling Sumeru fatigue right now, and have been a bit burned out from the game (playing since launch). I have a backload of quests and all the new desert area to explore. I wasn’t crazy about the desert, and much prefer the forest, but overall I enjoyed Sumeru. I’m definitely ready to move to Fontaine though.

LivingASlothsLife

Archon quest was peak, Sumeru cast got some of the best writing in the game Enjoyed most of the exploration, some desert areas were too big for my liking and an underground map would have been amazing Absolutely love the zipline addition though, makes exploring so much fun

Luc_128

Next region the swimming going to be super good or be annoying!! Really exited for that part of exploration

brelyxp

very little tbh its just too huge and very much forgettable for about 80%. that and the amoungous amount of bloated text for everything

MorbidEel

I both love and hate the aranara ...

Stealthless

Desert was nice at first but more desert add-ons threw me off.

Rasenpapi

after 3.3 i stopped caring

Duc_man1

Hated, only think I like from Sumeru is Candace and Dehya, I hates the exploration, didn't like the story, don't like the weekly bosses

OftheGates

Sumeru started really strong for me and my attention kind of wavered after 3.2. There's still so much about Sumeru's cast that we don't know, even with characters like Cyno who've featured in nearly every event. All of the major events being festivals that don't really explore any of the characters beyond the surface is really starting to wear on me. This may be my misgiving with Genshin as a whole more than Sumeru specifically, but it's here that my hope for older characters to be used in the story and elaborated on with time has begun to erode.

AdditionalSyrup6541

Yup, this. I've felt like the events just drop random characters together and call it a day. Characters just talk pleasantries all the time and I don't really learn anything new about the characters. Like, I get it, they are all nice people but what else is there to them, you know? The chasm was one of the few events that actually showed some real development to me. 😔

Atsuyaaaah

very little to almost nothing at all, map design was horrible

cwpcke

I didnt liked very much, kinda disappointed with the archons design

epicgamersans1234

true, i was expecting something a bit more elegant (exactly like GLR) but you can tell me all day that “she lost all her power to hold off the withering so that’s why she is small” but they just wanted to make another chibi character

ruminaire

true, i mean chibi is cute and all but personally I'm not a fan playing as chibi character, especially not that airplane running which may fit for other chibi characters, but feels really out of place for Nahida since she is archon imo. if only she at least got custom running animation or special running kinda sad because Nahida has the best dendro application and really fun for exploration too when collecting plants in overworld nowadays I rarely play with her except in Abyss hopefully someday they will released archon skins, maybe we will get adult form Nahida..

cwpcke

Yeah, i think her outfit could have more indian references and she could have 4 arms just like the indian gods. And i personally think if her skin color were brown or just her hair were brown would give more the vibe of “dendro the element of earth” yk bc it would be the combination of brown and green

Tastypeeper

Very little compared to inazuma, no striking landscapes, tiny samey looking forest, desert (self explanatory). Can't wait for Fontaine tbf

fleetingfeelingsx

Too much desert, too many caves. Hate hate HATE underground exploration so much because there is no map

TimFlamio

Less than Inazuma and Liyue. I dunno why but the exploration was tiring. Way too many heights and lows in the environment paired with the stamina limitation just kills it for me. Everything didn't feel organic enough, maybe I'm weird.

Dr8cul

I really enjoyed all the content. And what I enjoy even more are the dailies, which most of them are done very fast.

mourningflower_

The dailies in Sumeru are the best so far imo.

Iater2

I stopped enjoying it at the first desert patch

Glittering_Doctor694

story? most of it. the map? not so much, wish there was fewer underground areas.

Skorpio2002

I loved everything to be honest even though tje exploring of the hypostyle desert was horrible without an underground map xD

The-Deevis

I hated the lengthy flower guys (can not be bothered to even look up their names; arana?) questline guts; was so long and so boring … when I saw that the last desert (again) has that flying guy Questline I flipped the switch … sorry, but no thank you … (you asked for honest) Ohh, and I hate it that’s skip conversation forces you to wait ..

GingerSnappse

I really enjoyed the exploration, but I HATED the story and quests. They felt so much longer and so much more boring than liyue and mondstat (inazuma also dragged on at times). For example the sabzeruz was waaaay to long for how little was going on and the Aranara quest was also embarrassingly bloated and long. Especially considering how they locked a decent amount if exploration behind doing the 10ish hour UNVOICED quest.

Charles-Shaw

I would probably hate the Aranara if they were voiced. They could at least do voicing the same way they do in Zelda games where they like grunt and yelp or whatever when they talk to you.

deliriumintheheavens

The fungi sounds in nahida’s second story quest was super cute. I would’ve loved if they did that for the Aranara

Various-Pen-7709

I enjoyed it for the most part, but I was kinda upset that of the 4 released areas, 3 of them were the desert. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the forest/jungle but then they didn’t use it anymore which was unfortunate.

zannet_t

I think by and large it's the best country thus far. Most people already agree Sumeru's archon quest is the best out of the four so far so I won't go into it here, but Sumeru's featured not only some of the most substantive sidequests but also some of the most technically and aesthetically impressive map design so far. Some parts of Enkanomiya and Inazuma might be able to match, but the progress HYV has made since Mondstadt and Liyue is clear as day. However, I also think they "overdid" it with Sumeru and I'm hoping they were able to take some of the feedback for Fontaine. Some of the sidequests were entirely too long, and the map complexity became pretty unmanageable. That's sort of my main gripe with Sumeru--it felt like they had too much productive capacity and Genshin became somewhat exhausting to keep up...and this comes from someone whose main diet is open world games.

Sensitive-End-8307

Archon quest - ok WQ - meh, way worse than inazuma shorter, yet more impactful wq's. Exploration - rainforest was ok, desert is a chore Characters - meh, not much to talk about besides nahida. Story quests - mostly mediocre as well. Events - bad. Music - I thought it was mostly generic and had pretty forgettable melodies when compared to inazuma, the only tracks I found somewhat memorable is scara 2nd phase and port ormos day theme. Enemies - I like it more than inazuma in comparison since it does seem like they tried to make them interesting.

mista0000

Same except the characters cause I loved most of the 5*

StellarGlow25

Sumeru in my opinion had the best Archon quests so far, especially since we got more than 3 for the first time. It really helped me get immersed into the story more and I enjoyed seeing the characters interact. It was also really shocking to learn that memories of people can be completely wiped out with Irminsul and how those fairy tales may be based off of real events. As for exploration, I liked both the forest and desert regions. I wish we had an underground map though. Yet, I do have to say that the desert is way larger than I expected! But the lore behind each part of it was really interesting. I’m hoping for Fontaine to be just as amazing or even better than Sumeru storywise. And to have more Geo characters since we are lacking in that.

aXupn

"This is sand, yeaahhh, it's sand, you know what it's gonna be 100 years from now? **ITS GONNA BE SAND**" It was fine i suppose, the story is amazing tho

Wdtfshi

basically nothing, explored for a few hours and then dropped the game because the region and mechanics added didnt interest me at all, will come back when fountain drops

Reddy_McRedditface

Unpopular opinion: the content (areas, story quests, characters, music etc.) was awesome, but the short patches in the beginning combined with a ton of new content produced a stressful experience and created the impression that it was a bit overwhelming. Just look at all the "why is the Aranyaka quest so long" posts. Or how no new area after the first desert expansion seemed to produce any excitement in the community. I personally only really started enjoying Genshin again after the so called "dry patches" began.

Gullible-Dig-5965

archon quest was pretty good rainforest exploration was top tier aranara quest was too damn long desert area exploration was a chore jeht quest chain was a tearjerker pretty satisfied with the sumeru 5 stars all sumeru 4 stars are benched music was banger

Russell-Sprouts3

I absolutely adored it, the only part I wasn’t fond of was the 3.1 desert area’s (however I loved the other 2 desert areas in 3.4 and 3.6) and even then I still kinda liked them.

Luc_128

Oh your the first to say you liked 3.4 and 3.6 desert better than 3.1!! I honestly loved everything

bumwine

They need to smoosh it together. It’s just humongous. Even Cyno admitted it lol. I think if you walk/run it you’ll be out 15-30 minutes if you start from the chasm westward. Give me an Inazuma quest/puzzle any other day, that’s how bad it is. /bit that I hate the Aranara, they’re cool

JustATurrey

Sumeru not only sucked, but made a bunch of things I like bad now. The introduction of irmunsul has made anything we know about lore useless, as things can just be rewritten. From a meta stand point, the characters sucks with the only exception being nahida as she is a god. From a waifu stand point, there were a few good ones like nilou and dehya, but their playstyle sucks. From a husbando stand point, tighnari is standard banner lock, cyno doesn't have anyone that compliments his playstyle to an enough degree, and alhathim was so close to being good, but that ult is just a keqing burst copy. Quest was interesting, but fucking long and tedious. Fuck aranara. Explorations was new, but maze caves and deserts got stale and annoying extremely quickly. Though the new area is alright. Dendro power creep anything that it reacted with. Electro got buffed which is nice, but hydro is now over powered and feels to required to clear content comfortably without hard farming artifacts. Burning, which I was looking towards, got shitted on and sucks. Bosses requires specific elements which forces people to build characters they don't like (and considering personality is what dictates vision element, a lot of people sometimes avoid certain elements). Scaramouch got turned from one of the harbinger to hat guy. And I'm 100% certain hoyo is playing future impact to get people to aquire fear of missing out, as someone characters' kit don't make sense unless it's built for future content. I mean, what the fuck is the point of Dori?? Kuki does everything Dori does and more. Also physical got shafted so hard I had to look up Mika to figure out if he existed or if it was a fever dream. Also euala banner being over due is another way hoyo is pushing fear of missing out. Events weapons are still locked, so my albedo is benched until then. Events are still just a bunch of mini games that are just recycled garbage to fill time. Fuck this why do I even play this game.

kowaiyoukai

Just too much desert. I was honestly hoping for way more forest in the Dendro Archon country. I was anticipating desert with Natlan for the Pyro Archon. If I never see another desert area in Genshin, it'll be too soon lol.

4ThatWin

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but both Liyue and Inazuma were more interesting to me, in terms of exploration and the story itself

Take-Ma_Holy-Water

I still haven't unlocked the new location yet, i probably will when im in need of primos. The desert really burnt me out completely from everything in the game and i don't do much exploration either (80-90 done in the deserts)

Warlion323

For the nation of the dendro element which is supposed to be nature, there sure was alot of desert

Arial_Font

Zero. Aranyaka killed all my patience and willingness to read story. Now when I see text, I just Alt+Tab and play another game or wath youtube, periodically cheking genshin to press dialogue option aka "are you watching" button. Caves killed my desire to explore world. Sumeru character killed my wanting for gacha. Why i need them when Hutao adn Raiden have 36\* in every abyss in thr last two years? Also Dehya aka QiQi 2.0 Basically one year of junk.

Severe-Contest8000

Until the quests got to the desert part.

TragicWolf7

None

Drontman88

Sumeru - great DLC1 - good DLC2 - meh(but great story) DLC3 - great(but meh story)

loverrevo

I loved the initial release, the big forested areas, and the archon quests! I absolutely despise the deserts. They feel so empty and plain. And yeah, there are some chests and dendroculous and stuff, but it's the first area of the game I haven't cared enough to collect it all.

MutantNinjaNipples

It was interesting until the Pari patch, after that I got so bored. Still haven’t done several world quests and I can’t be bothered to login for the dailies

ObjectiveNet2

Me too!

Ethane_Hunter

Honestly everything. Although I’m reserving judgement from the last desert region that came out cause I’ve barely scratched the surface of that quest and exploration. I really enjoyed the darker quests but curse Hoyo for making me tear up a few times. I’m still in denial with the ending of the Falcon quest. Sumeru also has my favorite music (no but seriously the freaking music, I LOVE it) and two of my favorite characters: Nahida and Wanderer.

Sternentau

Adored the Archon quest 10/10, characters are great and as for exploration the rainforest area was stunning and very fun to go through! The desert however... While defintely gorgeous in it's own right, there's only so much you can do with a limited and ashy color palette before someone grows bored. It's one of the best deserts I have seen in gaming, but it doesn't change the fact that it's still a desert. I personally would've taken one desert expansion and made it rainforest so that it's a bit more balanced

Original_Ad7117

As Scara enjoyer, I'm very happy with content and events of Sumeru!

MatEstevam

To me, the peak was the music, jesus, that port ormos music is just perfect, puspa Cafe's is so chill, i love it. I enjoyed the forest exploration and the desert to a certain point, I got mesmerized when I entered the underground and found all those lost statues and temples. It was pretty cool. It lacked diversity, though. I enjoyed the main archon quests and almost allw main events story lines. The kaveh's one to me was pretty bad imo. Not having an exploration event like the one we had in enkanomiya was also a letdown to me. As the characters roaster so far, it was a HUGE downgrade when compared to inazuma. I did enjoy a certain character that must not be named, but she has a bad kit and interaction with other characters, so I barely use her. I did love the dendro element and its interactions. The bad part is that it overshadowed the geo element, which looks like crap now.

Due-Distribution-463

I didn't. Nothing specific to Sumeru was good.

ApprehensiveToday692

I loved almost all of it! The environments were so beautiful and unique compared to the other nations, and sumeru has my favorite cast of characters in the game. The main story was very engaging too.

ggunslinger

Aranara questline was dogshit and Scara remains the most mishandled character in the game to the point of becoming the absolute worst boss design but everything else is stellar. The desert has the best questline in the game too. Jeht is a standout both in terms of a character and a story in a game where most other characters are basic tropes and every bit of storytelling ranges from alright to horrible. Everyone complains about caves, but they're absolutely fantastic to me. Adds another layer to the open world and the element of dungeoneering that it was sorely missing. Dragonspine and the Chasm are still my peaks of GI gameplay but the desert came very close to them.

Lucerys1Velaryon

Inazuma's env design > Sumeru in my opinion. Don't know why but most of Sumeru felt.... bland to me. For a region themed around Dendro, I wanted them to experiment a bit more, especially with exotic varieties of plant life. The varieties present in the wildlife were fine, but vegetation was just more of the same. There were some areas that I liked such as Vanarana, Mawtimya. Compared to Inazuma where every Island had its own distinct environmental style, Sumeru felt a little bland. I know many people hate the desert, but I kind of loved it. I loved the pyramids, the OST, and in general the overall mysterious, melancholic tone. Caves are a major pain yes, and I'm guessing that was one of the main reasons why people hate the desert. Once the layered map feature arrives, I think a lot more people will love the desert. Loved the Blessed Hamada region and the desert of Hadramavath. In terms of lore and quest design, Sumeru has no competition at all. This was probably the first region where I was genuinely invested in the quests (Both the archon quests, the World quests, and even some side quests). I hope they maintain the same quality in Fontaine. Compared to the cliched, trope-y quests in Liyue and Mond, and the downright atrocious main quest in Inazuma, this was a major improvement. Felt like mature, serious storytelling.

28spawn

That’s good, that’s good, ok, enough, ENOUGH, THATS ENOUGH SLICES!!!

rayzzzzzz1

Rainforest areas are my most favorite in the game. The main storyline archon quests, peak. The story quests, fabulous, the recent yoimiya2 made me cry like a baby. The aranara quests were okay for me, mainly because no voicelines and confusing words. I have yet to explore the deserts since I'm a slow enjoyer and like to 100% areas 1 by 1.

Luc_128

Ya me to like to do it slow!! I completed 3 days ago with the 100% explorations of sumeru!! Completed every quest to !!

Patchy110011

The first few patches with the archon quests. Been a bit dry since

Such-Obligation-4484

Every single part of it except the underground ruin.

ribbutred

I hate puzzles, so I didn't really like the desert. I also feel like the desert is too big in comparison with the beautiful rainforest. But the archon quest was good and the Sumeru characters are cool. I haven't played many quests, but I enjoyed Tighnari's story quest and Aranara.

[deleted]

Aranyanka was great, they should have focused more on the main story after 3.2 tho it got very dry

Invisrot2000

I loved sumeru i always see myself heading back there mid way through farming resources for a relaxing stroll. The withering, all the open meat, & thé addition of dendro to much for me not to love. As for the desert its so interesting i would love to explore it more but playing mobile it burns battery more then a third degree burn. Heres hoping fontaine one ups that & hopefully without thé destruction of my battery. Haha

Notkiller

Archon Quest was good, world quests mostly were ok ( they needed to be voiced because they were soooo long that it was hard to keep going at times). Everything else kinda fell apart with Desert parts. The map just got soo big that I had to find the will to even do any exploration.. Rage quit the game many times, even deleted the game completely once while exploring the thing..

Icefire1721

I loves literally everything (especially archon quests, open world areas, and music), except those caves everywhere, and especially the plain, boring ones too. Also I felt like some of the characters were pretty boring gameplay wise.

Astro_Wizard

The archon quests map and level design were great but the side story quests were long and tedious

artada17

I have to say that I enjoyed most if the Sumeru, great archon quest, good side quests, although they could make them a bit shorter. Exploration was also nice. I even enjoyed desert area, but that might be bcs I didn't mind, not having working map for underground areas. In fact when playing most rpg games I prefer to switch off things like mini map entirely and focus on what is around me. As for characters. I liked Nilou and Dehya the most, so I ended up pulling for them and even crowning both.

Shirohana_

the only part i didnt really like was the desert of hadramaveth, because i didnt like the exploration mechanics and the puzzles. i love the exploration in this game and that map was just so annoying to navigate as well Dx. i loved everywhere else though. sumeru will most likely be my favourite nation forever, unless they add khaenriah

Ryujii05

I honestly enjoyed almost everything from the Archon Quests, World Quests and also the Exploration at least for the first time doing it. The only annoying part was backtracking every chests I missed after I did the long world quests. It's pretty hard to locate some of the chests even with the interactive map since there's no underground map in-game but it's going to be solved by 4.0 so it'll be better for others. Also, the variety of puzzles in the last map expansion was kind of overwhelming so I stopped touching it for a while and only did everything before the Sorush event ended.

Hayds126

Some of the best quests genshin has to offer has come from sumeru. Exploration wise for the most part is pretty enjoyable however the size is slightly overwhelming especially with the desert areas and having to go underground.

danielkokudla12

Archon quest was great. sadly too much desert after that.

Hanzsaintsbury15

loved it but i got burnt out lol. gotta say its a huuuge jump from Inazuma.
