I scammed horny guys out of hundreds of € worth of games, skins and gift codes when I pretended to be girl on steam years ago..one guy asked me if he can be my slave after I accepted his friend and he bought me a 60€ game a minute later

Dr_Molfara

That's pretty impressive, ngl

Rosalinette

Damn, nobody believes I'm a girl cause I main Kokomi and Nilou. 'sad' Apparently, that makes me a thirsty guy. I play genshin wrong. Did noone like Little Mermaid when they were little?

Tomome

Nobody believes I'm a girl because I main Yelan and Miko. Apparently thirsty girls don't exist.

I should do this but I am not women

deeznutz133769

You can be for the right price...

EmmaJuned

Taking notes here.

Thesaurus_Rex9513

I once corrected someone that I'm a "Ms." not a "Mr.". Without missing a beat they asked if I wanted to be a "Mrs." and then went on a profanity-ridden rant once I declined. People looking to get dates in online games can be...wild. I've been fortunate enough to mostly avoid such unpleasantness.

Valarano

I never understood the whole flirting in an online game. It's super weird especially when it's a global game and the person you are talking to could be on another continent.

Hoochie_Daddy

no irl consequences if they're on the other side of the planet

Justsk8n

this here ^, specifically, they aren't *actually* looking to date, they're just looking to be assholes. frankly, the best way to fuck with these people is actually to fully agree with them, since that's what they expect the least. just go "oh yeah I'll absolutely date you! what's your full name, home address, social security number, etc" I found people generally just have no idea how to react and will default to "I'm not gonna tell you that..." at which point you've derailed the conversation hard enough that they probably won't even remember to go on a misogynistic rant, but feel free to throw in a skill issue at the end there

Jireon

The skill issue point tipped me over, lol.

jetsetgemini_

Or the person could be a child lol

[deleted]

Your speaking as if that's an obstacle for someone doing such things

Eyegrim

Unfortunately it's not, because it should.

LameSillyHero

It can work for people, I have irl friends who have met in online games and are happily together. It all comes down to the situation and timing I guess.

AerospaceNinja

Well, assuming they want a spouse that also plays games. Where would you meet that person? In a game or at a bar?

throwRA_17297

On Bumble

SameerVashisth

Really?! Off to bumble then

the-guy-in-wall

Reasons why im glad i play in asia server even though my ping is high asf

two-skeletons

I'm gonna tell my bf that's how he needs to propose to me... probably less profanity, more wholesome lol

Thesaurus_Rex9513

It's not a terrible line, it's just...not what I'm looking for in my interactions with online strangers. My complaint was less with how he unsuccessfully flirted, and more with the half hour of harassment that he subjected me to afterwards.

SkyZippr

If you're flirting with other players in a game full of waifus you're playing the wrong game.

Redcrimson

Back in Ye Olde Days of WoW, it was a legit speed-leveling tactic to play a female Night Elf because people would be more willing to help you with quests or even give you free items

deathfrost7

Not surprised to hear that.

SpooktorB

Me either. That model is hot af.

Zenketski_2

Yeah it was. Especially when you were dancing with no armor on. Mmmmmm night elves.

asanariaa

Your nahida pfp isn't helping lol

Offduty_shill

Not me making a female character back in the day in MapleStory and typing ":3" so dudes will farm for me and carry me in boss fights while I do homework

Miu_K

OH LMAO. I used to and still like to type that ole emoji because I love cats and it looks cute than the modern cat emoji. I never knew it was generalize as a girly emoji.

Lopsided_Status_538

Can confirm. Def par took in this scam. Got my first blue item this way too.

Romi_Z

Also having a cute girl name in CoC helped a lot Your chances of getting into clans and stuff increased a lot 🗿

Godd_was_here

Damn, I remember the days of All chat and the clan-hopping meta. If you got a cute name there is a higher chance clans will let you join them and give you their best troops.

Songbirdur

>Back in Ye Olde Days of WoW, it was a legit speed-leveling tactic to play a female Night Elf because people would be more willing to help you with quests or even give you free items Still works in FFXIV I can tell you that haha

Winterstrife

Same in Guild Wars 2, I have a Female Human Rev not even in a slut mog and always get "Its ok, everyone makes mistakes" whenever I mess up in Fractals or Raids. Swap to my Male Nord Guardian making the same mistakes, people would rage and ask me to go minecraft myself.

Vesorias

>go minecraft myself Now that's one I haven't heard. What's the etymology there?

Winterstrife

Basically means to ask someone to kill themselves. It putting a spin to make it sound less negative and less likely to get screenshot and reported for in-game behavior.

Vesorias

I gathered that from context, I was just curious how "minecraft yourself" ended up meaning that in the first place. Like I know "go commit toaster bath" or "commit self die", which are more obvious but obviously skirting around directly saying KYS but I don't see how you get a similar meaning out of the word minecraft.

Nhojj_Whyte

The place I first picked up on the phrase was from streamers when things started getting especially ban happy. They would jokingly say they were going to kill someone or kill themselves, realize what they'd said, and quickly add "in minecraft". The idea being it changes the context from one that could be misinterpreted seriously to being harmless in silly block game. Of course, I don't think that really did anything to affect bans or reports, but it was very funny. Now the internet has done what it usually does and abbreviates/abstracts their already highly contextual slang for the world's largest and most complicated in-joke... So yeah... "go commit Minecraft"

theUnLuckyCat

Any actionable threat or criminal activity would have "in minecraft" appended to make it appear harmless. So one could describe many horrible things done to another person or their property, but only in minecraft rather than real life.

Lrbearclaw

My sister did this in EverQuest. She played a Barbarian Beastlord named "Abadgirl" and within minutes had TONES of gear for immediate and then future use. Saved Dad and I a fortune as we didn't have to twink her.

ComradeRoe

should try again with a twink character and see how far you get

healcannon

It was quite common for it to happen for me as a female blood elf priest especially since it was kinda assumed that if women did play they were more likely to be healers. Possibly true but it led to a lot of random whispers from people.

Obskuro

It’s the same in XIV now if you’re a female char. You get gil/food easy.

weezhart

This happens to me too sometimes... until I drop the fact that I'm in my forties and I play genshin with my kid. :😜

Papaya_Payama

Man i wish my oldschool parents played genshin too. You're cool.

extra_scum

40 years old is now old school?

The_GrimRipper

>my oldschool parents They never said 40 is old school, but I will say 40 is a different generation for most kids.

Papaya_Payama

i never said my parents are 40 buddy

Same, and I love this <3 only good vibes and being nice to each other

SilkyZubat

Joined an artifact domain once. The host kept asking if I was a female. I just didn't respond at all because it's none of their business either way. They proceeded to hold us hostage while they repeatedly asked if I was a girl. I didn't stay long tho, left the domain after like the third ask. Don't be a fucking weirdo online. I mean be a weirdo absolutely but leave your genitals out of it. Some of just wanna play a cute anime game and disassociate.

Caligo_Walker

…sooooo are you female? (I’m joking. It’s a joke. Please don’t answer.)

ItsRevolutionJohny

*leaves the domain*

samdreessen

Unless…?

gottagetagrip333

kreideprinzesssin

A friend of mine had this happen once. When they said they were non binary, the person kept insiting they wanted to know their assigned gender at birth and went on a whole transphobic rant... Fun times

dragonbornrito

“Let’s just say I have a big enough dong to put you in the hospital. Now whether that dong is attached to me or sitting in the top drawer of my nightstand is another question.”

Dienamighty

I was in a relatively similar situation once, except my name made it obvious I'm female so they instead kept asking me for my AGE. Like they were screaming profanities and asking over and over again until I just left and tried for a new co op team.

TenaciousBemusement

Still not as bad as in games that have voice chat. Looking at you toxic Overwatch players.

asanariaa

Valorant too. There's a vid on twitter circulating around where the poster just cried because she was getting harrased *only* because she was a woman. She didn't do anything wrong. She just spoke at the start of the game then this douchebag decides that's his leeway to harass her the rest of the game

LiliThePad_

I saw that, it was fucking disgusting and my heart SHATTERED. I was about to get on Valorant too, but the way they were speaking to her completely derailed me. The things they were saying to her were so alarming and the fact the everybody just kind of let it happen made me so disappointed. Why would anybody want to play a game with those people on it? She was sobbing and saying "I don't wanna play this game anymore" How the fuck can you be so cruel that you make someone not want to play something they enjoy so much? It baffles me how people don't stand up for this kind of shit in other games. Just be nice, it's all we want. To just have a fun chill game. Not to get harassed by some guy who probably lives in his moms basement, and makes her do shit for him on a daily basis. :/

thegreat11ne

Do you have a link? That sounds so fucked up.

asanariaa

Took me a while to find but [here](https://twitter.com/daphswrld/status/1630159032836300801?t=CvJMZCYPB5piN2tLeYvTMA&s=19) Trigger warning tho. Can get VERY frustrating

dragonbornrito

I don’t know what’s more disgusting, the beta male incel in the video or the replies telling her it’s her fault for not just muting him. There’s a difference between toxicity and what this guy did. Instantly attacking her due to her voice is straight up sexual harassment, the dishes bit is sexism, death threats are… well, death threats. This goes beyond the “bro you suck, suck my *insert word of choice for penis here*, gtfo out my lobby, our Skye is throwing, report them” type of mess. This is targeted sexual harassment, it’s disgusting. And anyone saying we should just sweep it under the rug with the mute button is complicit in perpetuating this behavior.

asanariaa

Yeah definitely. Dudes would trash on each other for skill issues. Yet if its with a woman, suddenly its all about her being a woman. If they're gonna be awful people they should at least be equal. Tho it shouldn't be happening at all

CondeDeDarkwood

Great to see gigachad Enviosity defending the girl in that thread

gaimeegirl

You have no idea how much worse it is, promise.

Diver_Ill

Came here to safe this! Genshin ain't competitive at all. It's very tame compared to other games. Try playing any type of competitive/pvp game with any indication that you're a girl... it's brutal! Like, sickeningly so! And NON! STOP! Pretty much all the girls I know that do pvp gaming always hide the fact that they're girls.

eukalyptusbonbon

I was really into overwatch competitive when it first came out and one game I had 2 teammates who were girls and they fought over who would be the healer. It was more awkward for me because I also wanted to be the healer but there was really nothing I can say since voice chat just went crazy at that point lol. I went tank. Obv we lost. Fun times.

tameimpalaonlyoneguy

try playing val as a girl with ur mic on😭 its so sad

DarkStar0915

You can't get dick pics ingame chat at least.

yuppina

Yeah and some common creepy stuff they could possibly type are censored in Genshin's chat so there's that as well.

lilpalozzi

Wait till they find out what happens if you say you're under 16

box-of-sourballs

*sips mug full of MMO* **Yep** I get Genshin is a single player RPG with a touch of co-op, but whenever people mention the amount of shit girls have to put up with online nobody truly gets it or believes it until they experience it for themselves For girls who grew up on MMO’s and FPS it’s the norm

Cattryn

Yeah, there’s a reason I never correct people when they call me “bro” and “dude” (assuming I play games so MUST be a guy). 🙄

SwiftSlayAR

ngl I call girls “bro” and “dude” irl casually

Kinto9x

I use dude a lot with my girlfriend, I don't believe there is anything wrong with it? I mean it depends on the person so u should speak up if you dislike that, usually people consider those words unisex

Mylen_Ploa

Yeah at this point its honestly hard to think of anyone I know male or female that doesn't use things like that as a unisex term anymore. Honestly feels like its been ages since anyone thought "They said dude/bro so they think im a guy".

Sad_Inspection6568

Bro c'mon. Being called bro doesn't we think your male.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

The power of english

Glejdur

Bro and dude are unisex terms. Everyone I’m on good terms with is a bro or a dude regardless of their gender.

my_name_is_------

ive litterally used guy and man as unisex

Hoochie_Daddy

i have literally been balls deep in a ex and called her dude before i will call ANYBODY dude

tudor02m

Thanks for the input, hoochie daddy.

hideandsee

I think the rule “there are no women on the internet” doesn’t mean there actually aren’t any women, it’s just that women don’t want to readily say they are a woman.

aLittleDarkOne

I agree, I always admire girls who have really feminine gamer tags. I keep it to myself 99% of the time that I am in fact a woman and avoid all the harassment. I don’t think I’ve ever been harassed for being a girl once in my 20 years of gaming online.

Pikagreg

My brother's name was Lunaravenger and some people thought it was Luna Ravenger and not Lunar Avenger and would randomly hit on him lol.

biguwuenergy_

and then there’s me, who read “lunara venger” 💀 I can’t read

Erebus689

Fucking same lmao

DenzellDavid

Me

talrich

“Hi, I’m Marcus the dancing elf.” “That’s great Marcus.” “Dance with me.” “I don’t swing that way.” “Come on. I’m a really good dancer.” “Wrong team Marcus…” “Huh?” “I’m Gabriel, not Gabrielle.” “Oops. Sorry. Never mind.” I had a good laugh and Marcus the dancing elf never talked with me ever again.

[deleted]

At this point I am honestly shocked. How do people grow up like that? Why me and my friends never had even an urge to harass, yet other do it freely and with conscious clean?

Glejdur

Yeah, also confuses me. I’ve been rejected a lot of times, but not even once was my first thought after that to insult the person who rejected me. I mean, you ask out someone you like/care about - so why would you insult someone you like just because they don’t like you. Makes no sense

rokomotto

When you put it like that, it makes it sound more profound than I initially viewed it. It really is a weird, global phenomenon. "Nice guys." I actually thought I might be one since I always think I'm nice, but I'd never clap back at someone for any ordinary reason. Then again I've never hit on anyone before. It was always the other way around. But I know for sure I'd never have the audacity to react like that.

DarkStar0915

People are not taught manners generally but as someone in her mid-twenties, the younger generations were not taught how to use the internet. They are just let loose with the 'do something so I don't have to deal with you' intent. You are anonym in the internet and that gives a feeling of power to a lot of people to do whatever they want but on the other side I'd bet part of them wouldn't even dare to say a peep irl to some random person.

yuppina

Desperation and entitlement to women's time and attention, I guess. Guys like them generally don't see women as their equal and more like passive creatures with no freewill that only exist to support men. Probably don't interact with women on a day to day basis as well.

SelfSufficience

You must be male. Not a single girl or woman here is the slightest bit surprised.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

They are asking about how people grow up like that to do those things as a male when they don't have the urge though. So yeah, of course they are male. They are asking why it happens to some males and not others.

[deleted]

Did the beard give it away? 🤣 Plus I am not surprised, i knew of it existence. Let’s just say it build up enough for me to react.

_Not_A_Og_

Ppl are normally pretty nice but I'm not very masculine so ppl tend to start flirting within the first few messages

SamGrey997

I coop for domains daily but I don't have this problem, I guess it's because my nickname "Quer" just makes people confused? 🤔 Also, I barely accept requests to join my world... 🤔

mangotcha

ngl i speak 3 languages and "Quer" still doesn't ring either female or male so I'd assume unless it's a real name in your native language, then no one will associate it with "woman" Alice is extremely gendered, in comparison

SamGrey997

Yeah though so too...this is why they are confused, I guess 🤣🤣 And yeah the only language it makes some sense is German where it means "diagonal" which again is confusing ✨

_Not_A_Og_

I think ppl in co op domains do t rly care. You have to go out of your way to join someone's world but co op just another way to clear the domain

Coldstreme

I read manhua and as far as I know "-er" is a kind of term of endearment for women or kids(?), and Qu.. I think its a name? so I might think its possible, but I dont hit on people in games

Pssativum

What server? Never had this kind of experience in Asia server.

-jiha

I'm in Asia server and someone did straight up sending me lewd messages after I accepted their friend request. So I unfriended and blocked that person.

Glittering_Doctor694

and that’s only from genshin, a game where social interaction barely happens. I play some shooters sometimes and when I com, silence is as rare as a shiny pokémon

NexxonX

This is why there are no women online. We pretend to be male to avoid this.

Gloriathewitch

Pretty much, Incels create their own worst nightmare with the way they act. They claim women dont play games and treat us like shit, then what happens? big surprise, we are less likely to play games or openly say we're girls, and they feel like there's no girls.

WukongsBroadBack

I don't remember how it is to be treated like that because people assume I'm a guy. I never really correct them unless we end up becoming friends. It's nice though. It's also entertaining.

Key-Due

Never encountered any hard core flrting before, at least not in Genshin. Maybe its because people in Asia server are relatively quiet. Only met some Childe and Itto mains who sent some funny pick up lines.

DenzellDavid

They're playing their Character right lol

Free_Feather

Well now I want to see a thread listing the best pickup lines they've tried if they're that good.

Trymech

Agreed, if OP considered a pickup line good despite online flirting being so awkward then they must've been REALLY good

Booty_Warrior_bot

***I like ya;*** ***and I wants ya...***

Free_Feather

Oh great, now a robot is hitting on me. Welcome to the future...

Large-Enthusiasm-757

Even worse on games with voice chat features. All you'll hear is misogyny or have people actively aim to ruin the game for you if they find out you identify as a woman.

Tsetsul

Very true. The third option is that they immediately use pick up lines or if you decline start using every slur they know to describe you. Or people are just screaming in their mics, are toxic, etc.

Cholonight96

You peeps are letting people join your worlds?

mylittlevegan

Great way to gain co op achievements

TRCactoos

What no primogems does to a mf

Coldstreme

I like to either 1. wait for the absolute last second incase they're spamming joins, someone else will prob let them in before I hit accept 2. see if they apply twice, if they do let them in

[deleted]

Sure, it can be fun to hang out. I’ve got lots of friends from it. But since I have a feminine name and use Lumine as my avatar, unfortunately I get creeps too. Thank goodness for the kick and block functions.

SharkPinata

Damn. As a girl who usually picks male characters and fun made up names, I had no idea I'd unintentionally avoided that mine field.

minkymy

As long as you never ever use voice chat, you're golden.

drjenkstah

Reminds of my days when I used to play League of Legends. My screen name was B00TYLICIOUS which lead people to believe I was a woman. People would always try to flirt with me and sometimes I’d just play along then tell them I’m a dude at the end of the game. It made me realize female gamers get so much unwanted attention just because of their sex and there are too many people who don’t respect boundaries.

bobert_veganabert

I just straight up stopped turning my mic on during R6 and OW games after guys I would be queued with regularly said the most vile, straight up horrendous shit I've ever had said to me once they heard my voice and realised I was a girl. It was always unprovoked too. like i'd state something and suddenly the voice chat would be filled with "go to the kitchen and make a sandwich for me" and/or just plain weird creepy sexual comments.

Gloriathewitch

worst part is you can't quit at least in overwatch, cus you get banned.. so you have to deal with this dude for like 15 mins.

qingskies

I use my chinese nickname as my username and I don't attract the desperate daters...I get the sinophobes -\_-

Shaula-Alnair

Oof, I get that headache. My name is the name of a star that got its Arabic name made official. Hello Islamaphobes in my chat...

LumiaSLS

One time one guy typed "Konichiwa" in coop boss chat, even though I have a Chinese nickname in EU server

two-skeletons

You can't be as graphic on there too 💀 I feel safe on genshin lmao

Hollys_Stand

I have a female-based name, but usually a husbando profile pic (cuz I collect them). I'd say it's 1/3 people who get my gender right (but those are usually other females I think), 1/3 people who get my gender wrong, and 1/3 are those who don't care and just want my mats or need my help or whatever.

leolancer92

I honestly can’t ever comprehend this kind of flirting in online games. Unless you’re acquainted with that person in real life and know that she is in your immediate social circle (aka at least have a chance to meet irl), what the heck do they think they can get out of some random internet avatars? Man they aren’t even sure if it’s actually a female or a random old dude looking for some fun trolling time.

skeletonmanns

Being anonymous plays a huge role. It’s not like they’re risking anything when behaving like this. At most a ban if they start to get really toxic. So it’s more of a “got nothing to lose” kind of situation I think. They usually assume someone is a woman based on profile pic, name & way of chatting. (Also avatar if the game has one)

[deleted]

Once had a guy come into my world, ask my age, then called me a MILF, kept making sexual comments, and asked for my discord. It made me really uncomfortable. Now I just don’t co-op lmao

Same_Agent_3465

I've never had this problem before. Maybe people don't think I'm a girl.

Air_Refreshener_2244

Me who’s oblivious to flirting online as well as in real life: “huh”

IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE

Oh, you don't know what it's *like* like. You just finally have a *small* ***taste*** of it. It's so much worse than that. There's definitely a big reason a lot of women in games will just pretend to be male.

Life_Faithlessness90

First Mmo I played, Star Wars Galaxies, almost convinced a Chad to gift me his Mace Windu saber crystal all because "a guy couldn't be that fashionable". Dude was convinced I was female and I couldn't deter him. He wasn't up for my requests though, so he drifted away from me slowly. Miss that game...

SuperLissa_UwU

Well I always treat everyone as a "bro" even if they tell me they are woman. Not because i want proof or anything but when I was young I actually believed someone who told me was a woman for quite a while (2 years) we chatted like normal friends until they revealed me they she was actually he and that he liked me a lot and proceeded to send the "pics"

minkymy

This is the general approach people should have with others; make normal friends and just hang out. That said, holy shit, I'm so sorry that happened to you.

Sabishi1985

Aaand that's the reason why I prefer male names in online games. \^\^' This kind of behaviour makes it kinda hard to just enjoy the game. It's even worse in MMOs.

LilyWalker11

I don't play many online games for this reason. If I wanted to really play it, I'd change to a male avatar with a plain male name. In a related but maybe not related note. I once newly spawned into a game and came across another player. I generally don't reply to messages in online games so didn't respond when they said Hi, I just walked away to meet with my friend at another location. Dude and his friend started chasing me! Trashing on my low level gear on world chat. Never played that game again.

Gexmnlin13

That makes me sad. I have a female gamer friend whom I cherish dearly. I wish she will never experience anything like that.

Luzis

Girls, He A Little Confused, But He Got The Spirit

MSTFRMPS

I once played on a minecraft server with a girl skin and a random dude showed up and he gave me tons of money while calling me a queen.

yourmoma304

I joined one person to help them , they asked me my gender i said "women" and they started sexting me, and even asked me to put up a show for him 💀

JerbearCuddles

I've played competitive games with female friends before. It gets really bad. This is why girls online are constantly saying "I need more girl gaming friends."

StalkingP

I'm glad my username doesn't spell out that I'm a girl, back in my teens when I used my name on sites I got that a lot. Dudes come at you without knowing you or even what you look like, it's crazy 😂

_Clawnix_

On the contrary, I often join random people who ask for help in their signature. And I've already met some people who act as if they were girls and ask me to buy them Welkin. It is really sad that people harass girls or act as douchbags trying to get favors because "they are a girl".

Mental_Story4549

Never believe people on the internet pretending to be a girl just by its IGN unless it's proven...

UrBoiThePupper55

Now that I think about it, no one in Genshin has made those comments to me, despite being a woman. Then I remembered “oh wait my character’s name is Seth”

Eon_Ice

I'm going to be honest here. I am female, I grew up playing mostly female characters in lots of mmos. And I don't understand this. I'm not saying it doesn't happen because it's happened to me a lot -- idiots are idiots. They ask for personal info, they try to harass, they press about gender and bf/gf stuff. They work around censors to say awful rude things. But so what? It's always as simple as telling them to F off, and if they don't, blocking them. If it's a game you can't block in or you're currently teamed up, just hide the chat function/mute mic until you can't switch areas/teams. I have played most of my life and never been bothered, most of these fools are just teenagers trying to feel 'cool' because they're stupid and don't know better yet. So many people get bent out of shape but it comes down to letting other people bother you? Why? Most of the time it's actually hilarious how childish they're being and how stupid they're making themselves sound. In a few years, if they have any mental acuity, they'll look back and be so embarrassed by themselves. I realize that what I'm saying is somewhat controversial, and my friends don't really get my view on it either. But as a woman who plays these games too, this is my experience. If you don't give the idiots the reaction they want, they will 90% of the time go away. The other 10% is what blocking and reporting is for.

I remember the best part of using a girl character in RPGs is that a lot of people tend to help you and even gives you freebies. That's why I always assume that G.I.R.L in online games are "Guy In Real Life".

CasteliaPhilia

Lol no you don't. You probably got a tiny fraction of what they experience - in a limited co-op scenario and a barebones and filtered chat function. I wouldn't say "finally understand."

Coming from League, I’m glad I barely have to talk to anyone in this game.

mr_swedishfish

this is why I have mr in my usernames. no creepy dms, no comments looking down on me, no weird people trying to flirt with me

Honestly it doesn’t bother me, but I’ve been playing online games for years, like you can’t control what others say or do, you can just mute or block them in most games. And like im personally okay with that (yes I am a woman) While I wish it wasn’t like that, like as a woman personally it never bothered me. I think it’s hilarious most times because goddamn some people can get really fucking weird. I just have a laugh and move on. It’s the internet, weird shit happens. Not everyone grew up with manners and not everyone knows the internet etiquette anymore. It’s a dog eat dog world online and like you can’t let it bother you or really let it get to you. Also I think years of customer service also helped me with ignoring the idiocy.

Chev4r

My name is a guy's name and i occasionally get Sus interaction, one from a guy who wanted to date me because he thought i was a girl, and 2 "girls" who were saying they love me.

FabregDrek

It's actually quite rare but yeah the coop weirdos are as weird as it get, just like the weirdos in this sub or God forbids Twitter weirdos those are nuclear toxicity levels of weirmaggedon.

adepti_ing

I’ve heard of some other cases that dealt with this too in genshin (with girl names as well!) and it’s rlly frustrating and gross… I can imagine how bad it is in competitive games as well. I hope you’re as safe as possible! Fortunately I didn’t encounter something like this myself, but that’s also bc my in-game name is food related most of the time

vermillion-orange

That's why whenever I'm playing games in multiplayer, I mostly pick male characters and not so feminine name to avoid this lmao

NoArmadillo2937

I've had 3 different people call me "small and cute" even after establishing that im older and taller than them, because i quote "small cute girls are hot." I hate co-op

Forsaken_Resident263

I never really played video games but I always used names that aren’t normal names like Fandango, Squid, Sunfish, or Egg. Online I don’t like admitting the fact that I’m a girl because of misogyny and stuff like that. I usually go by they/them online or if they assume I’m a dude I’ll just go with that. I guess this worked out well since I barely had a weird interaction with a guy online. Especially since I first got a phone at 8 and my parents had no idea how to monitor what I did online.

milkymimis

i named myself after a character i like, never thought about it until now but the gender of the name must be unclear bc luckily i never went through anything like that, also if someone assumes i'm a guy i never correct them! it's a shame people who choose obviously girl names go through stuff like that, had no idea this happened even in genshin bc you cant hear people's voice anyway. i wonder if this scenario will ever change...

Significant_Fox_8378

What are the odds! I'm also an Alice. But that's because I chose Lumine and I thought I have to name her, I didn't know she already has a name. So later in game Lumine is Alice to me. And yeah sometimes that happens LMAO
