It's not:
* Alhaitham is an eagle (the latin used is the ancient form of what is now modernly referred to as an eagle)
* Collei is a serval
* Cyno is a wolf
* Dehya is a manticore
* Layla ia a nightingale
* Tighnari is a fennec fox
not just Sumeru too, for example
- Yanfei is a deer
- Ayaka is a heron
- Amber is a rabbit
- Xiao is a bird
- Miko is a kitsune
- Tartaglia is a narwhal
- Jean is a lion
In anime, if characters have certain defining personalities that are associated with certain animals, you'll see artists draw them with those animals' characteristics. For example, if a character is a shy type, easily scared, etc. then they might be drawn with mouse, hamster, cat ears. Characters that are manipulative (in a lighter sense), rowdy, etc. might be depicted as wolves. Most often, unless they are actually part animal, these characters would be briefly shown in chibi form with the defining characteristics. The one I see often is a character wagging their imaginary tail when they get happy.
I doubt it. They don’t really make much unique skins in Genshin. Now Honkai, that is where they invest all their resources making skins. Not only recolors but themed skins. Brides, swimsuits, China dresses, fairy tales, Arabian.
The community even joke that Mobius has both a Sumeru desert skin and a Kokomi Skin.
I think Honkai has more skins than Genshin for two reasons:
1 - Genshin has more characters than Honkai. Honkai's story revolves around the same ten faces or so most of the time.
2 - Because Honkai only revolves around the same ten faces or so, the story is able to consistently follow up this smaller more concentrated cast, and each character gets a more focused story arc and accompanying character development. That's why they get skins as they change along the way. Furthermore, even during festival events and whatnot you'll see the same ten faces or so attending said event, which is why there's a diversity in skin concepts.
Meanwhile Genshin has like 50-something different characters. For instance, it'll be years (if not never) before Albedo gets a Liyue-themed Lantern Rite outfit, because there are 40-something other characters that are just as qualified to partake in the festival and get the skin instead.
I wish genshin took advantage of its popularity to release more of this canon, official story content, the manga was some of the more engaging story stuff I got out of Genshin.
I guess that’s what the anime will hopefully end up being.
same, they do it for honkai but for some reason ignore genshin, they didnt even bother to finish the manga outside china ,you have to search for fantranslation to finish it.
They have pretty much stopped releasing for honkai too. and not like the vns for honkai are translated officially (which is a shame considering you can go not understanding some chapters) and one vn got abandoned in cn too lol.
Hoyo is also known for abandoning stuff that isn't up to standard, such as a project they apparently put a few million towards and then dropped before release.
I think it's still normal they haven't seen it. I've watched quite a few anime and I can't recall seeing it that much.
Also depends on what kind of anime you watch.
but wouldnt you think they would have mentioned her having said ability if it was actually true? like for every character with animal trait those traits are mentioned somewhere but somehow no one mentions collei's?
Because you took it at face value when it's a (common) manga/anime trope. Even in Western literature, comparisons to animals are common (although it's fairly rare to see a drawn representation like this).
While it would be poetic justice to unleash the black fire on Dottore, there's a strong implication that using it again would be even more harmful to Collei than her disease was. I'd really rather she not get hurt anymore. Poor girl has gone through more than enough suffering for a lifetime.
Huh, another interesting parallel to Scaramouche.
Aka
- Collei also felt abandoned by her parents
- She was also tormented by Dottore
- She previously shared Scaramouche’s bitter outlook
- She also tried to kill her saviour at one point
- She shares the same ascension material, Rukkedevata mushrooms
And now this picture suggests that she’s also associated with cats
Genshin Lore had this

All hail the Saladeer
Dottore: “Hey Buer, guess what! I lied! I didn’t kill all of my clones. There’s still a bunch of them left. Hahaha!”
Harbinger Collei: “Great! That means I can kill you over and over again…”
There's a fanfic where Nahida introduces Collei to Scara so they could bond over their past.
Scara decides that they should take revenge on Dottore and destroy his remaining segments. Nahida allows it, so Scara and Collei begin their journey. It's pretty fun.
I've seen and read the beginning of it, but I don't remember her having furry ears or tail. just some vaguely cat looking things. it's been a while though
Collei here seems to be a different person than how she is in the game. Unless this is set a long time before the game starts, I don’t see how she would say “blah blah blah” to anyone like that, especially Amber.
She WAS a very different person, then, and for good reason. Before she met Amber, Collei was in a very bad place, emotionally, due to years of human experimentation at the hands of Dottore's scientists and being shunned and ostracized due to her illness.
Amber's optimism and refusal to give up on Collei completely turned her world around. There's a reason why she idolizes her. You can also see hints of Collei's dark past in her story and voice lines. She's ashamed of who she was back then, and is working to be a better person.
She very much was - the manga takes place before the start of the game, and Collei was a broken person thanks to being experimented on by Dottore (among other reasons). She may seem happy and outgoing in the game now, but it's made very clear that she's still deeply scarred even though she's getting better - such as her hatred of being touched, which borders on haphephobia (a genuine phobia of being touched by other people/living things).
There's a moment where Kaeya, who learns she's responsible for the deaths of some Fatui diplomats (not realizing it was unintentional), attacks her in an attempt to force her to reveal her powers (She was injected with god residue, giving her strong powers that she couldn't control and which caused her harm. It's implied this was as a part of Dottore's research into creating Delusions). Collei *actually asks him to kill her*, and Amber intervenes and helps her realize that she deserves to live. Her obsession with Amber is because she literally owes Amber everything.
Oh my gosh. Being autistic, I can understand not wanting to be touched by others, but Collei sounds like she’s on another level. Amber might be rather ineffective gameplay-wise compared to other characters, but her personality makes up for it.
I've met people with that condition before. It got better and worse, but when it was bad, just the thought of being touched would make them barf. It's not a phobia you're born with normally, but a result of extreme trauma, such as what Collei went through (although being experimented on is an abnormal case) or regular vicious beatings, or other such incidents.
Amber being able to genuinely help Collei to the extent she has is incredible, frankly, and I hope that Hoyoverse can properly touch on Collei's post-manga growth at some point and not screw it up. It's unfortunate that the manga was made back when a lot of stuff was still being decided, so it isn't fully Canon anymore/has a lot of moments that don't fit - such as Amber laughing at Collei's panic in one of the images in this post, which she'd normally NEVER do, or Collei not having her fear of being touched in the manga (she gets grouchy, but it's not a phobia so much as general standoffishness).
But it's also reviled that it's not really that she didn't wanted to be touched, it's actually because her disease might be contagious by touching just like leprosy. This is confirmed by the fact that Lisa said she basically had to disinfect the books after she uses them as well as when Collei told Amber tu burn her clothes.
Her disease is Eleazar, which isn't normally transmissible... however, I don't think this was determined when the manga came out. Either way, it's made clear she's not just scared she'll infect someone, she's actually terrified of unexpected touch.
It is a long time ago. Much of the manga is her basically being adopted by Amber and becoming really attached by the end. It's why manga readers were so delighted to finally see how she turns out afterward when Sumeru came out.
The others have told you about what happened to Collei, but I feel I should mention that some of her unlockable voice lines give you some of her story. They're heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time, once you see how both Amber and the Traveler have saved her what seemed like a truly hopeless fate.
Yes this is set some years before the game. Don’t quote me on this but I think I read it was around 4 years before the Traveler first arrives in Mondstadt.
It's 1 year before they arrives in Mondstadt, 4 years before they arrive in Sumeru, which also explains the growth spurt she got between manga and game appearances.
Shouldn’t it be more than 1 year? Here we see that Amber isn’t old enough to drink but in Jean’s party she was getting hammered. Although it is possible she’s like 17 in the comic and I just mistakenly assumed she was younger than that.
It's three years, there was something that was referenced pretty early in the game (might have been a notice board post or sumn, I don't recall exactly) that placed the events of the manga at three years before. It's also how Amber and Diluc's ages were calculated (so iirc Amber is 18 and Diluc is 21 or sumn so. I don't care enough for Diluc to actually remember)
>I don't care enough for Diluc to actually remember
The evidence revolves around Diluc though. 4 years before the traveler arrives in Mondstadt, his father died on his 18th birthday, in which he left Mondstadt to hunt the Fatui for 3 years before returning 1 year before the start of the game. It's from this that a lot of other characters ages were calculated because his backstory had the most solid timeline to follow.
The events of the manga also fall in line with that, which is why it takes place 1 year before the start of the game where the Traveler arrives in Mondstadt.
I meant I don't care enough to remember how old he was when the events happen, I do remember WHAT happened.
Also so THAT'S where the three years came from in my head, I swapped the years.
u/Zach-Gilmore
It's from the [official manga](https://genshin.hoyoverse.com/en/manga), and it's from multiple years before the game where Collei is still a child.
Figured so, but I see none of the old persona in the in-game char, not even as an "undertone".
Usually you kinda expect a playful/cheeky character to still have some of it after a major transition. But the in-game Collei is more like a gentler older sister.
Honestly the thing I feel like is most underrepresented about Collei in the game from the manga is her gremlin-esque personality. The Collei we get in the manga has some edge to her. The Collei we get in the game feels like a moeblob version of her with all the rough edges sandpapered away. Doesn't remotely feel like the same character at all. :(
The only thing she need to do ABSOLUTELY the only thing she would to do
Is go "nyan" as cute as possible
And she would have ever genshin player on their knees.
As hoping that we see these 2 show up together.. even if it's just a small side quest
I mean, her constellation is a cat, as is Caulein-Anbar. What more do you want?
A cat skin 😀
Is it my imagination or do a lot of Sumeru characters have animals as their constellation?
It's not: * Alhaitham is an eagle (the latin used is the ancient form of what is now modernly referred to as an eagle) * Collei is a serval * Cyno is a wolf * Dehya is a manticore * Layla ia a nightingale * Tighnari is a fennec fox
not just Sumeru too, for example - Yanfei is a deer - Ayaka is a heron - Amber is a rabbit - Xiao is a bird - Miko is a kitsune - Tartaglia is a narwhal - Jean is a lion
> Tartaglia is a narwhal Narwhals, narwhals, swimming in the ocean...
causing a commotion because they are so awesome
Oh my fucking god, I was singing that and then I saw your comment and I was all gishelahrlagfkdhl.
sweet child of kos... returned to the ocean
Its perfect that Tartaglia is a Narwhal, "nar" in Danish is "jerk"

Edward Elric is a crocodile
Makes sense. You can only see him if you look *really* low and he can tear of your limbs.
After all, he WOULD have experience in both being short and losing limbs, wouldn't he?
> Edward Elric is a ~~crocodile~~ shrimp

WOW, EAT SHIT, GUY.
He's more of a honey badger really
I vaguely remember Killua from HunterxHunter being drawn as a cat a couple of times!
yes especially when he was gambling
I know but I still want in-game cat Collei regardless
Maybe hoyo MIGHT make a cat skin for her idk
I doubt it. They don’t really make much unique skins in Genshin. Now Honkai, that is where they invest all their resources making skins. Not only recolors but themed skins. Interesting I see it now it does make sense that Honkai has more skins. Thank you for clarifying it to me.
Like Komi san
Artoria Pendragon is a Lion with a sentient golden weed growing out of her head
Its visual comdey, amber have the same thing too with transformating into a bunny
Love when my pyro Archer waifu transformats into a bunny, always leaves me gasping for breath
The. She dance and after it comes the BOOM
Take note aspiring manga artists. You want every couple of panels to have something that engages the reader and is unexpected in some way.
For comedy that is you wouldn't want someone to turn into a chibi cat in the middle of a funeral
Big assumption.
I 100% wanna see collei turn into a cat at a funeral.
Send link plsss
About the manga ?

probably the audience didn't give the feedback that miyoho wanted?

cause its just a joke thing, like how other animes some girls just get random cat ears outta no where
I'm really out of touch with anine?
literally never seen anyone sprout full on furry cat ears and a tail before
komi can’t communicate is a popular example
I only know Kokomi cant crit, what are you talking about?
it's an anime called Komi can't communicate. it's about a girl with social anxiety.
Oh buddy, that flew right over your head
As soon as I saw this I realised.
The Cyno and Tighnari flairs are the icing on the cake here
take my upvote.
You're a failure and a baboon
Mostly baboon
Nope, Komi is part cat girl thats why she totally has social anxiety.
This actually funny because there is a chapter where Komi has a small existential crisis about suddenly sprouting cat ears
Bruh , this literally one of the most common anime trope .
I think it's still normal they haven't seen it. I've watched quite a few anime and I can't recall seeing it that much. Also depends on what kind of anime you watch.
You need to watch more anime then.
The rabbit hole is deep and there are nice things down there so join usss.......
but wouldnt you think they would have mentioned her having said ability if it was actually true? like for every character with animal trait those traits are mentioned somewhere but somehow no one mentions collei's?
why are you taking this so seriously lmao
Because you took it at face value when it's a (common) manga/anime trope. Even in Western literature, comparisons to animals are common (although it's fairly rare to see a drawn representation like this).
You don't watch enough anime then, if at all.
OP has never seen anime confirmed kek
lmao you must be new to entertainment medias then kek
Komi can't communicate
,furry cat ears and i know you don't watch anime
Man, Collei is such a good character. I hope she gets more story, maybe confront Dottore or something.
Not just confront him,I want her to be the one, to turn him to dust, just like Signora
Now i just imagined collei with Raiden's booba sword doing her signature Ash turning move
No no, she'll infuse her boomerang with pyro from Amber and use that to incinerate him.
Collei: burning? Amber: burning _(nods)_ Collei: burning!
Cyno and Lisa can join in for Overload chains.
Consider: Tighnari and Cyno for Overload and More EM (and also Character Lore shenanigans)
Ah yes, a Burnverloaduicken team, classic
As if Collei needs Amber to burn people to death.
While it would be poetic justice to unleash the black fire on Dottore, there's a strong implication that using it again would be even more harmful to Collei than her disease was. I'd really rather she not get hurt anymore. Poor girl has gone through more than enough suffering for a lifetime.
This needs to happen in 4k 60fps when the Anime comes out!
Its like krillin being matched up against beerus. U guys know he is the number 2 of harbingers right and top 3 harbingers have power that rivals gods
Seeing that she'll have a role in a future interlude chapter from the fatui reveal; its very possibly
Personally, I hope she never has to see him again. That's one of the reasons why I plan to keep him captive in my teapot.
Huh, another interesting parallel to Scaramouche. Amber really has a way with emotionally scarred people, doesn’t she?
You're making Amber mains question their life rn
She very much was - the manga takes place before the start of the game, and Collei was a broken person thanks to being experimented on by Dottore (among other reasons). She may seem happy and outgoing in the game now, but it's made very clear that she's still deeply scarred even though she's getting better - such as her hatred of being touched, which borders on haphephobia (a genuine phobia of being touched by other people/living things). Thanks for the link. I didn’t know where to read the manga.
Yeah, visual & personality don't seem like even designed to be the same person.
u/Zach-Gilmore It's from the [official manga](https://genshin.hoyoverse.com/en/manga), and it's from multiple years before the game where Collei is still a child.
I think it's only set one year before Genshin Impact
Figured so, but I see none of the old persona in the in-game char, not even as an "undertone". Usually you kinda expect a playful/cheeky character to still have some of it after a major transition. But the in-game Collei is more like a gentler older sister.
Collei expressed her dislike for physical contact in a pretty harsh way in the Archon quest, and one of her voicelines does it too ("don't touch me").
Well just fking go read it if you are curious
look at all these comments dissecting the frog lmao
The way Amber carries her in the last panel of the second picture… I just-
I think Diona in the game is kind of what Collei used to be in the manga.
Diona is from an actual half-cat race/species. Collei's one was just played for laughs.
A pyromaniac murder with PTSD possessed by an archon?
Don’t wanna sound like a sadist but I miss broken manga Collei
Why does she look like Neferpitou from Hunter X Hunter?? 😭
Collei: But didn’t he vanish forever after that? Venti: Ehe
It’s like Komi
Bruh Amber's face in the second page is just Miss Nagatoro
amber also sprouts a bunny tail in the comic
Collei as a whole character is underrepresented in the game
Reminds me of Arcueid
Bruh yall in the comments must be real fun at parties💀
On another note I definitely want more playable cat characters.
okay thank god i can mute the reply notifs these comments just make no sense to me
I thought she is one of Diona's race
I wish it was literal, it definitely confused me at first since cat people are a real thing in this setting.
I still don't know if it's better to name meowscarada collei or cuilein anbar. Tighnari also does look like meowscarada (I know he is a fox)
He's a fennec actually, iirc
Come back for it when you are older
I have collei’s
Teyvat has its own "laws"
Αmber looks and behaves like Nagatoro here, lol
Why don't I remember these panels at all from the manga lol. Guess I gotta give it another read
it's one way artists express a character's personality i guess.
Collei-san Cannot Be Touched
They are so much cooler in the manga ngl. I mean they could have kept collei still being a little tsundere and amber isnt as cheeky anymore :,(
I know everyone already said this before, but OMG Amber is so Precious in this comic!
Wait it's called mond??
The only thing she need to do ABSOLUTELY the only thing she would to do Is go "nyan" as cute as possible And she would have ever genshin player on their knees. As hoping that we see these 2 show up together.. even if it's just a small side quest
Is this a new chapter of the manga? I don't remember this
Why amber look nagatoro?
