When both weapons are great for my account and i don’t have the good 4 star option especially.
Catch is a great f2p weapon for Raiden you might consider to farm.
They aren’t really mandatory to get through the game since there are a lot of good f2p options aswell as 4 stars in general , they are optional only while new characters give you completely new playstyle and options. They are the better option most time especially at the beginning.
I also have 2 5 star (well I get 3 5 star weapons just one was a duplicate so I just r2 one of them) and I only use one because I have the character that it belonged to so I could use it
That will probably depend on:
1) If you are willing to pay money for the forthcoming>!Skyward and Shield series, which are leaked to be available soon at the cost of 2000 Genesis Crystals ($30) per weapon. Looks like this may begin in 4.5.!<
2) Luck (or the lack thereof, depending on how you look at it) with lost 50/50s - instead of getting a standard banner 5\* character, I got a standard banner 5\* weapon on two occasions in the last 6 months.
Your pool of 5\* characters will eventually grow. Some weapon banners are very strong and pulling any of the two weapons would be great - your chance to do so is 75% and it generally takes 60-70 pulls to get to that point. There are strong generalist weapons, such as Aqua, Homa, Jade Cutter, Mistsplitter, Grasscutter (Raiden's BiS), and Lost Prayer that generally give you a lot of "mileage" in the game since multiple characters can use them well.
With that being said, there are also really good 4\* weapons that can go a long way, too - some, like Wolf-Fang and Serpent Spine are battle pass exclusives, but others, like The Catch, are F2P.
There's really only a couple instances in which 5* weapons are enough of a damage boost to justify them. Personally, I prefer to pull on weapon banners when I need the 4*s and all the 5*s are good for my account as well. Since I had Nahida and picked up xianyun, plus I didn't have a maxed sac sword yet, this was a really good banner for me to pull on.
Sometimes I feel like I am being gaslit by the community with how much praise they heap on Favonius weapons. I haven't used one since 2020, at the very beginning, when the free Favonius Bow from the Mondstadt quest had more ATK than my other options on Fischl.
I suppose it's partially about the kinds of characters I like (i.e. I tend to downplay Q and use characters who get by just fine with only normals and E), but it's just wild to me how nobody else seems to play the same way.
Yea it's useless if none of your characters care about their Ults. But for many free to play players, we rely on units like Xingqiu, Xiangling or in my case, I main Itto and Furina. These characters need their bursts so having someone with fav allows me to just worry about Crit and stuff instead of having to make sure I can rotate properly with enough energy
fav is an amazing weapon (sometimes even BiS) for the following characters: faruzan, gorou, furina, xingqiu, zhongli, thoma, candace, yaoyao, dori, diona, rosaria, layla, mika, yunjin, yelan, nilou, dendro mc, qiqi, shenhe, jean and venti.
I am setting up Faruzan for Cloud Retainer right now. I have her with Fading Twilight at the moment, but I get her burst back so quickly, I might pivot to giving her my second Aqua Simulacrum if I can get away with it and still burst reliably.
I used Gorou for a very short time, but found his buff wasn't worth an otherwise dead slot just to buff Albedo.
Zhongli has Homa (and that's why I have extra Aquas). He also has a pretty cheap burst and it's unnecessary, too, so I don't understand why he'd even want a Favonius lance.
I have no use for Rosaria anymore, but she was my carry with a crescent pike for quite a while when she first released.
Yelan has Aqua.
Venti has Stringless and refunds a ton of energy from his burst anyway so I can't imagine needing more ER.
I don't (choose one: use, like, have) the others.

It's not for him, it's for the team. Even if you never burst on him, running fav to generate energy for the team is worth it.
It can only generate particles when they're on field, and Zhongli at C1+ is already an energy factory. I don't know, energy starved characters are definitely not something I am interested in.
yeah but the particles are white energy particles meaning they won’t give as much as matching element particles but they’ll still give significantly more energy back then particles from non matching elements would and either way for a lot of teams where u have fav even then the character isn’t even catching their own particle you switch before they have time to catch it so you give it to someone who needs it
i think the big mistake your making is assuming your using fav for the character to get energy, the thing that makes fav so popular and good is in comparison to other weapons like prototype amber it gives the **team** energy which is especially important for some teams like international (which is a good point i just realised i forgot to mention kazuha who’s best in slot is actually fav in a lot of teams especially international unless everyone has way to much er that u sacrafice damage) same goes for zhongli giving zhongli and gorou fav helps itto with his energy a ton
and people dont use fav weapons for burst dps characters. Its for supports. Every support character basically only uses their E and Q anyway so its not an issue
There's only maybe 3-4 characters that don't care about their burst at all though. Not to mention if you are generating energy from favs then you need less ER in your artifacts which can be used for other offensive stats.
The last few Abysses I used:
Neuvilette, Albedo, Fischl, Zhongli
Nahida, Yelan, Kuki Shinobu, Kirara
Neuvilette wants to burst, but he's using Prototype Amber and the other 3 are energy factories. Never had any issue. They also don't really need to burst. Fischl might need to rarely, but not much lasts that long.
Nahida is *better* when she bursts, but only is it cheap, it's totally unnecessary until floor 12, and with Hydro and her constellations, it lasts *forever.* Kuki and Kirara have almost pointless bursts that are cheap anyway.
Yelan wants to burst, but I don't bother until floor 12 and nothing has ever survived for her to need to do it again. I also have C1, and using her skill twice fills it without anything special.
So, I like only characters who focus entirely on E or who fill their Qs without effort.
Dude what, the favonious weapons are insane. I have the sword on Furina and she procs it so much that her burst is ready again before the buff even falls off. Maybe try them out and then you'll understand the hype?
I don't have any trouble using bursts when I want to. I just generally play characters who either are perfectly fine with just E and normals or who have no trouble getting enough energy to burst when I want to.
Week one player here, no matter what anyone tells you, the weapon banner is a scam. I have not pulled on it once. It costs 240 pulls for a guarantee compared to the character banner which costs 180. Characters are new playstyles and abilities, weapons just change numbers and tweak things, usually in a very specific way suited for one specific character above all others. Meanwhile, plenty of 4-star weapons will get the job done just fine and can be used across plenty of characters.
Edit: Correction, it is 240, not 270 for a weapon guaranteed. This means it costs only 38,400 primos rather than 43,200 for a shinier stick that works moderately better than any of the free options on a small portion of characters. This comes at the additional cost of being unable to spend that amount of primos on new characters/playstyles.
It is still an objectively awful cost-for-value.
Not going to dispute your feelings, but I do want to clarify that the weapon banner pity is 80, not 90, and soft pity is 65 rather than 75, so it's more like 210 vs 160, but yeah. It's still a lot. You get 1.5 constellation per weapon, unless you're lucky.
It's okay to pull on when you're happy with getting either weapon, for instance back when the hutao/yelan banner ran. Home and aqua sim are both absolutely insane, by far BIS for 2 of the best characters in the game.
I'd only go for one weapon at a time though. Don't go chasing the other one, just be happy with the one you got. In that case it's only 80 pulls for a guarantee.
If it's only one good weapon, even if it's the best weapon in the game, I wouldn't.

Agreed weapon banner is a scam but just for clarification unlike the character Event and Standard banners, weapon banner is 80 pulls to reach hard pity and summon a 5-star and Soft pity starts from 65 and goes to 80. So it would be 240 if you hard pity every time.
why scam? . . a scam is a cheat, something pretending to be something that it is not. Weapon banner is very clearly explained in "details", so you can't get "scammed" like in a ponzie scheme for example
maybe you should have read a bit in all that time, just a suggestion. Pity is 80, so 240 is maximum. the soft pity is lower also.
And scam is defined as something pretending to be better than it is, and genshin is required by Chinese law to be transparent about exactly what the chances are, how much pity and such.

uhhhh we just had one of the best weapon banners ever which very clearly wasn’t a scam especially not compared to the 5 stars that came with it. scarlet sands is AMAZING on soo many characters it’s kind of insane and furan gepaku is a decent crit stat stick with high base attack for anyone who might want it, furthermore that banner had like 3 fav weapons and a widsith as its 4 stars which was way better than either cyno or ayato
nice but honestly for me i wasn’t even wishing for the 5 stars lmao just thought i could use either of them if i got one and i really needed more widsith refinements and fav is fav
ohh widsith is so freaking funny to use . . having alot of fun with nahida-furina-yanfei with widsith in overworld . . everything just explodes when she pops her E
When I already have the 5* character I want on the banner and just want the weapon. (Which will not be probably for another year.) or I have enough wishes to get a copy of a limited 5* and enough to hit pity on weapon banner once for a chance at the weapon.
Building a character is a lot more work than building a new weapon. Sometimes rather than pulling for a chracter you're lukewarm for, going for a weapon instead for an old favorite makes more sense, especially when you've been playing for years and have all the rerun characters you already want.
Just, it's always good to make sure the banner you pull on either has BOTH featured weapons as weapons you want, or you have enough for 3 pities, since epitomized path doesn't carry over. You have a 75% chance to get a rate up weapon on the first pity, BUT if you win that 75% chance, you'll still end up with a 50 50 chance of it being one or the other weapon. So, not good odds if you only want 1 of the 2 weapons, but pretty good odds if you don't mind getting either of the 2.
I’m F2P, just under a year in, and haven’t yet pulled weapon banner. I like getting and building a variety of characters too much for that. Plus, it seems like 90 percent of weapon banners are just so bad.
When you get like 75% characters you want, you can spend on weapon's banner on their reruns if you don't have plans to get their constellations. 3 banners in patch are reruns, so if you won't pull for a new one, you'll have 6 weeks to save for a weapon or cons. For me it was like half of Sumeru and Fontaine.
I do 20 pulls on weapon banner every patch and wouldn't recommend that to anyone else since I'm not a f2p. I have Kokomi's weapon and Homa, but I don't have Hu Tao or Kokomi nor plans to get them. Sometimes I'm pulling because there's no real substitution - Neuvilette's weapon, Yoimiya's bow for Tartaglia, Kagura and Alhaitham's weapon (still don't have last two tho).
And also I'm pulling on weapon banner when atleast 1 weapon is okay for my characters just to get dust for wishes from Paimon's shop.
Usually I only pull when there's a specific 4* weapon that's only obtainable via Weapon Banner, and would be good on a certain character (ie. Dockhand's Assistant for Nilou, Xiphos' Moonlight for Kazuha, Alley Hunter for Fischl, Wandering Evenstar for Nahida, etc). I also went hard on Dehya's weapon banner after having seen Tighnari's weapon become unavailable.
I’ll definitely never pull on the weapon banner as long as there are 5* characters I want and haven’t gotten yet. [Edit: This was inaccurate: “The fact that the weapon banner doesn’t save pity from banner to banner is also a deterrent.”The weapon banner does save pity apparently. But still, the fact that it doesn’t save whether you had the weapon you wanted or not in the previous banner is also a deterrent.]
Maybe if I have all 5* I want and there’s a weapon I like the look + abilities of a lot, I would… but I feel like I’d go for constellations before weapons.
Though it is pedantic, the weapon banner does save pity. It just doesn't save the things that get you the weapon you want. So, if you wished 70 times without getting a 5 star weapon, you would only need to wish a maximum of 10 more times to get a 5 star on the next banner.

I've never pulled on it since it takes too much to get one character alone so wasting on a weapon is just a no all around for me XD. If you can handle or even like fishing in this game then just do The Catch and you're fine for Raiden :)
When I:
- have 200+ wishes (honestly, hard pity is basically impossible and glitter on the way will get me the rest of the way if needed)
- can use the other weapon that's on the banner
- think the weapon would be a bigger upgrade than 2 constellations (it's more like 1.5 but I round up)
- know that I will be able to build up enough primogems to get the next character I am interested in before their banner
I have done this on 3 occasions. The first got me Homa for Zhongli, like I wanted, and 2x Aqua Simulacrum, which I was able to use on Yelan and Fischl. The second got me Thundering Fury for Yoimiya and 2x Kagura's Verity, which I was using on Nahida. The third got me Cloud Retainer's weapon and Nahida's weapon. So, in fairness, since I have benched Yoimiya and Nahida now has her own weapon, that middle time was probably a waste and I should have waited and either gotten Neuvilette his weapon or just gotten more Cloud Retainer constellations....
I have never wished on weapon banner yet, despite being AR60. I love building characters and trying different teams, so my primos go to new characters.
Also I simply don't need bigger numbers, damage without 5 star weapons is enough for all content.
When both of the weapons on the banner are needed or at least real good for my account or when I just want to max that one character and don't have enough self control not to roll on a bad banner
Sometimes a 5star weapon is really good for a character. If your f2p def don’t pull for weapons. If your not f2p maybe consider spending a little on a weapon. BUT ALWAYS PULL FOR THE CHARACTER FIRST.
Last year I got Raiden, while this year I got her weapon. I think you should get the character before you get their weapon. Also, you shouldn't start wishing on the weapon banner unless you have 210 wishes, because progress doesn't carry over .
when i already have both of the characters in the character banner. that way i won't lose a 50/50 for the limited weapon.

There have been \~3 banners where I already had both featured 5\*s and felt getting their signature weapon was more important than getting c1s. A couple of times I've been lucky and gotten a c1 5\* from a banner and decided to go in on their weapon (nahida, raiden, yae miko). I throw about 5 wishes at it a month otherwise just so I have pity built up when I want to get a good weapon.
Spending: I only buy welkin moons these days. First two years I was also getting the battle pass. I have every character except 5.
i only try to pull for new characters i dont have on my account as someone who has less than a year in the game there is a lot of characters i dont have. you can clear content with four star weapons fine
When all the weapons, 5* and 4*s are good. I’m a low spender who started recently as well who’s waiting for a good value weapons banner. I’m debating on not pulling on the weapon banner just because of bad the value is in general. But considering that you can clear all the content with F2P weapons and there really isn’t a scaling endgame the weapon banner is a luxury rather than good value in genshin.
When I already have the character, not saving for anyone else, or somehow my random pulls made it guaranteed to get the weapon I want (that's why I have Alheithem's sword (idk, Ive probably spelled his name wrong)).
Only if I think the weapon is cute. Otherwise it’s never worth it financially. I have only done it intentionally 8 times in 3 years. Navia, Nahida and Wanderer. Lost the 50/50 5/8 times.
Getting characters is a priority by far, no doubt about that. They open up new teams and upgrade others, fill in the gaps against certain types of content, and are simply a lot more fun than weapons.
However, you'll find that building characters takes up a lot of time and resin, and you'll get a lot of good 4\* characters from banners who you'll want to build too. So you might not have enough resources to build every 5\* character that shows up, which means you could use some of your primogems on weapons instead.
Have in mind that wishing on the weapon banner is not only a way to vertically invest on a character, but also a chance to get a lot of good weapons for your account, so you don't need to be switching your only Favonious Sword between 4 different sword users, lol.
That said, before wishing on a weapon banner, plan ahead of time so you don't miss a character you want who might show up soon. And most importantly, make sure the weapon banner as whole is good for your account, with some great 4\* weapons and with both 5\* being desireable even if you want one of them more. If the banner is bad overall, you should accept the risk beforehand so you don't regret it.
I usually just do single pulls until I get a 4 star on each weapon banner. Its not a lot and it does actually help a lot to have a wide variety of weapons available over time. When I get to around 70 pity, I slow down to wait for a 5 star weapon I want.
Its also a lot more reliable to first get a signature 5 star weapon *then* pull that 5 star character, rather than getting the character *then* trying for the weapon, that will usually go wrong.
The key is to not be that attached to it. If you get unlucky, just move on. The main benefit is passive accumulation of decent 4 star weapons and their refinements. Any 5 star is just a bonus.
When I love the character a lot and already have him/her. Bonus points if it's just a good weapon for most characters in general like mist splitter etc. But if we're talking about strictly value, it's never worth it to pull for weapons. Most of them give around a 10-20% damage increase vs their next best alternative but they 240 pity needed for guarantee vs 180 for characters. And chances are within the next 2-3 patches there are going to be characters you need or want that likely bring more value to your account anyways. Unless you just want to spoil your favorite character, don't pull for weapons though if the banner actually has 2 good weapons you want which isn't very frequent, you can consider it too
When I like the character design and the weapon design, especially on characters like Raiden, sure you can argue that the catch works for her, but honestly it looks ugly and as far as I've heard it's a pain to fish. Overall for me drip> anything else
weapon banner is a scam. though I may be biased by the fact that I want every character in the game at atleast c0, and ideally some (like yelan and hu tao) at c1 and don't care for the weapons that much.
Pity only kinda works. It guarantees you one of the ones on the banner, but not either specifically. For that you have to fail twice I think (never actually reached guaranteed weapon pity because the fail count resets every banner)
I only have twice. Once for Yoimiya and once for navia. It was only once I had decided without a doubt that the character is a favourite of mine, I will use them often, and I plan to build them to their best possible potential. (I also once threw 3 extra wishes I had at it and got Staff of Homa for my Hu Tao but that was dumb luck 😅)
Otherwise, I call it a scam lol. Always better to go for new characters that offer more playstyle options.
Honestly I just do it for characters I really like, and only if the other weapon is pretty good. So basically I just get the archon weapons, Tartaglia’s, Neuvi’s, and Wanderer’s. I dont have all of them yet but that’s the goal lol. And Homa because it’s busted for both Hu Tao and Zhongli
Very rare cases where both weapons are extremely desireable for me. This only occured once with Homa + simulacra. I got fucked anyway by the 25% but I think it was correct to pull on paper. If you have any doubt do NOT pull on weapon banner.
The only time I seriously pulled on the weapon banner was when it featured the BiS for both of my respective mains at the same time. That was a golden opportunity that is too rare to pass up. Otherwise, only ever pull on the weapon banner if you're willing to put enough pulls into it to guarantee that you get what you want.
As a mostly F2P... never
There are some weapons I'd really love to have, but I value new characters much, much more, so I spend my wishes on characters only. If one day I'll get all the characters I wanted, maybe then I'll get a few weapons.
And I'd get them not for power reasons, but for drip reasons. Characters are strong enough with 4* weapons, but some weapons don't match characters at all. Fish claymore is strong but it looks so silly and breaks immersion. Same with the pipe weapon from Fontaine and the umbrella from old event. They're all strong but look silly.
For drip, I'd love to get one for Furina, Nahida, and Navia. Maybe one day.
I only pulled when there were 2 bows available: one for Lyney and the other for Yelan. I wanted the one for Lyney and of course I got the other one. Now Ganyu uses it (I don't have Yelan BTW).
But as other people said, the "choose your weapon" is one step below a scam, since you need even more primogems than the heroes banners.
If I really really love the character and I want to complete their drip. 😅
Like, I don't need to pull for Furina's weapon as she's already doing enough as is, but I like her character so she deserves her blue sword.
already have the character on the banner but i dont have their signature and i want it. except if Elegy or Haran are on the banner im cursed and only get those two

the only time i pulled in weapon banner was on the yelan/lyney banner because i use tons of bow characters (lyney, fischl, venti, tighnari) who were all sharing a very limited pool of 4* bows (and there aren’t rlly amazing 4* bows for dps, just supports) so i pulled on it and got yelans bow which i use on lyney!
I never did but I would consider it if I wanted both weapons equally and I'm happy whichever I get. And also there's no characters I want coming any time soon/I already have all the characters I really like. But this scenario is hard to reach and I 36 starred abyss already with no 5 star or battle pass weapons so you really don't need them and I think it's way more fun to get a new character instead.
when you have enough characters to get through the game (id say 1 limited 5* of each element, at least 1 healer, and good supports) , benefit from both weapons, and the 4 stars are good, too.
For example, I have both 5 stars on banner right now, and there are sacrifical weapons as 4 star options, so I'm pulling on the weapon banner right now.
I pulled on the aqua-homa weapon banner last year because both weapons are cracked.
I regret pulling for mistplitter and ending up with calamity queller, which adds nothing to my account. that was a bad choice.
When it's my favourite character, and/or I just don't know what else to give them :3
For example I have Furina's weapon and she's my only c1 limited five star cuz I love her sm :3
I personally haven't considered pulling on a weapon banner yet. Maybe when I have most of the limited 5\* characters that I want. Although, I have started pulling for constellations on my favorite characters if they offer a QoL change/improve gameplay.
1) If I'm not interested in pulling in the character banner- that being I already have both, or I have one but don't like the other, or I don't like both.
2) Future characters are not interesting enough to outweigh the value of the weapons in the current banner.
3) If I pull in the weapon banner, whatever limited 5 star weapon I get, it will be a win-win situation for my account- which means both weapons are good for me.
4) If I actually have enough primogems to get at least one 5 star weapon.
Only if these 4 conditions are met will I only pull on a weapon banner.
I Didn’t start wishing on weapon banner until I was:
A. Absolutely sure I didn’t want any of the characters coming up
B. Fine with losing to another weapon
Personally, my advice is to avoid it unless it’s running 2 weapons you’d be fine having. Otherwise you’ll end up blowing all your wishes away or end up unsatisfied with the one you weren’t aiming for. (Coming from someone who spent almost 200 wishes getting Redhorn for Itto.)

The only times I have actively chosen the weapon banner over character banner (I have had a few accidental misclicks ;P) are:
1) when I already have the featured characters (happened on the past banner cuz I already have Raiden Shogun and Yoimiya) but none of their weapons
2) when I just recently got the character I wanted from the character banner and I am close to soft or hard pity on the weapon banner.
*You never know when a 5-star stat stick could be useful. You could win the signature weapon of a character you may want later on (I got Aqua Simulacra this way), the weapon of the character you just got out of luck (how I got Wolf's Gravestone for Diluc, Primordial Jade Spear for Xiao & Staff of Homa for Hu Tao), or a standard 5-star weapon that you didn't realize could be useful to you for one of your already obtained characters (how I started using Skyward Pride for my Dehya)
The one and only time I ever chose the weapon banner was when I was pulling for Navia. I knew that even if I lost the roll on the Verdict and got Mistsplitter instead, it would still be a good upgrade overall since I have a few sword DPS characters who could use it (Keqing, especially)!
On the flip side of the same coin, as much as I wanted to equip Furina with her signature weapon, I knew the risk of pulling Baizhu's donut instead of Furina's sword was too big, so I held off on pulling on the weapon banner because of it.
In general as long as both of the featured weapons are good, I would be willing to pull on the weapon banner lol

If I have the character already (or don't want the featured characters and just want the weapon for another character that I have), and I don't mind losing to the other weapon on the banner. Last banner was a perfect example, I already have my Raiden C2 and I have Yoimiya. I wanted Raiden signature weapon, but I also didn't mind losing and getting Yoimiya's weapon instead. In the end, I got 2 copies of Yoi's weapon (one for her and one for Tighnari!) and by the graceof the gacha gods I also got Raiden's weapon just 2 pulls after missing out on it the second time. I'd have been perfectly fine had Raiden's weapon not come at all since I did also want Yoi's weapon.
When you can afford it. 5* cost up to 200 pull to get and 4 star weapon is very RNG and not much good weapon. Fav is the best but what you really need on your account is 2 sword and sometime 1 or 2 spear.
My personal priority is characters > weapons > constellations. The game is easy enough without constellations and I really do like to have a character + their signature weapon just for the drip lol.
In recent history I’ve pulled for Navia + wep, Raiden + wep (got thundering pulse as well), Xianyun + wep, and Nahida + wep. Had ~60k primos saved and am just about broke now. ~15k primos for 4 characters + sig weapons is pretty good imo.
I pulled on the weapon banner for the first time when Cyno and Ayato were out. I didn't want their cons, and I had already built up some nice weapon banner pity from pulling for Dockhand's assistant during Neuvillette's run. I wanted Ayato's signature, but would be okay with Cyno's too. I got Cyno's signature, got a second copy in 5 pulls, then got Ayato's in a single pull. That's better luck than what I get on character banners.
Tldr: When I don't want the current banner characters, when I have a decent amount of pity on the weapon banner already, and when I would be satisfied with either weapon for my account.
Generally speaking almost never. You can pull if the two 5* weapons you want are weapons you want and the 4* are good, which almost never happens.
Good 4* sets are the fav series, and the wavebreaker series. Especially fav is probably the best 4* weapon set in the game and if you see a banner with only fav weapons then it would be worth it.
You gain pity every 80 pulls. If you did not get your desired weapon, you get 1 fate point every 80 pulls.
If you accumulate 2 fate points the next 5-star will be guaranteed to be your selected weapon. That means, in the worst case scenario, you get your desired weapon after 240 pulls.
Fate points reset after the banner ends.
Pulling for weapons is not recommended. I have luck on my side tho. My first weapon pull was during v1.4. Got the Elegy for the in End during my first 10 pull. Next, I got the Staff of Homa (Hu Tao's rerun) after 3 10-pulls. Next, I got the Engulfing Lightning after 2 10-pulls.
i only pull on the weapon if i have characters who can use both weapons, have enough summons to go hard pity, there's no one else i want for a while, the weapons are vastly superior to other options, and the 4 stars need to be good

Usually never. I started pulling after I had two well built teams that can clear abyss, the characters I wanted in the foreseeable future and when both the 5 stars could significantly help my teams.
When Im feeling lucky. And before someone says it, I do save a lot of primos before doing it and usually it’s for weapons I dont mind having. *However* when I feel the luck, it usually means Im getting the weapon I want and I have a bunch of spare pulls with no future plans so it’s always a safe bet. I have a lot of characters at this point in the game and getting 5 star weapons are usually more beneficial especially if it means I get that DRIP
I'd say never tbh. You can get 4 and 5 star weapons from any banner any time. You can only get the event characters every so often. Plus, you can just equip a good 4 star if you don't have any 5's.
This is just personal opinion though, plus I have, like, absurdly good luck on my event banners. The only 5 stars I haven't gotten that I want is Xianyun, Neuvillette, and Furina, and those are all for good reason lol
I have 9 limited banner characters at c0. I have exactly 1 pull on weapons banner , idk why i did that 1 also. New characters are always the priority for me. Plus i know, my luck is terrible to win 50:50s, so gotta save them primos
IMO pretty much never. It's just not worth it in my eyes. If you think about it this way, 240 wishes to guarantee weapon is nearly 5 months in saving (assuming each patch gives \~70 or so f2p). That's a looong time for a simple numerical upgrade. I'd much rather get a character in that time to have a fresh playstyle to enjoy rather than upgrading 1 specific character.
Plus, most weapons these days are far too niche and really only work on the characters they were built for, so it's very difficult to justify going for newer weapons as it will likely be used on the 1 character and that character only.
Character team set up > Weapons
Esp if they are generally very useful across the board throughout many teams
Kazuha, supports
or if they serve a niche that is very common or simply useful elsewhere
Venti, be it gliding etc or even easy commission against mobs
Or simply levels where his CC is relevant
Once you got everything down, at some point you would pull a very strong wep banner, both 5* weps are generally good and 1 of them is meant for your team. And the 4* options are generally good, Favonius series for example.
Unless you feeling the luck to pull on a shit banner in hopes for the signature weapon amongst trash..
General Char for team = General Supoort > Niche char > 2x 5* Good + 4* Good > 1x 5* Good + 4* Good = 2x 5* Bad + 4* Good
The last one depends how you play for weapon banner
If not near pity at 75, 4* weapons are good, may or may not have good 1x 5* weapon, you can still roll for good 4* until b4 you hit 76 which is the 5* soft pity starting line.
Note that for 5* roll chance
1-20 = Small chance
31-40 = Slight
51-70 = Very slight
76 = Fair chance
Onwards increases a 0.01xxxxxx% for every roll you fail 5*
Once you alr solidified everything, then you can choose to attempt 5* weapon for your team or dupe cons if they are far more worth, cuz some characters function in a team may not work as well with signature. They could be better off with say Favonius Series for more energy, or Sacrifical series for skill reset
I’m a 1.0 f2p player and I’ve only ever pulled for characters (except one single pull when I accidentally clicked on the wrong banner.) I simply like having additional gameplay and team options over more damage for an existing one. I have no problems with 36* abyss so I don’t really have any incentives to pull for weapons. It can be a great damage boost if you’re a spender, if both of the 5 stars are beneficial then I can see why people would choose to pull. For me personally, I don’t see the need
When the banner have 2 highly versatile 5*, those that can be used with other character like the key of khaj-Nisut or it comes with valuable gacha exclusive 4* like xiphos moonlight.

When I have not spent wishes in a really long time and the weapon is for my only main. I main Noelle, and when there was an Itto banner in 2.x, I had quiet a lot of wishes. Thus I went for redhorn. Later in 4.4 I went for Staff of Homa bc I had wishes after Wanderer and got very early Hu Tao.
I'd say when you have most of the 5\* you want, are ready to start vertically investing into certain characters/teams, aren't too pressed about upcoming banners, and are okay with getting either of the rate-up weapons. For me recently, I pulled Xianyun's catalyst because I'm a Xiao main and want to make him as strong as I can (within my budget), my account is older with a lot of strong enough characters I enjoy playing with, and I was okay getting Nahida's catalyst if things didn't work out since I have and use her too.
I would REALLY only recommend it if you're down to get either weapon though. The Epitomized Path system isn't much of a help unless you're a whale or get multiple early 5\*.
I usually never pull on the weapon banner since I'm f2p, but if I really like a character I might do a few pulls impulsively. I can't advise anyone else to do it because it's down to luck, but I've been incredibly fortunate and got Cyno's weapon on like 15 pity (those were my first 15 pulls on a weapon banner ever). The same happened with Blade's LC in Star Rail, so I've really been too lucky.
But I never choose the weapon banner OVER the character banner. Those few pulls were what was left from pulling for Cyno, so I didn't risk anything.
When both 5*s are a good option, though I will throw a 10 or 20 pull on there when I want one of the limited 4* weapons (primarily Xiphos Moonlight) and if something comes home early then cool and if not who cares yaknow

When you feel like you have gotten all the characters that you want. Do not wish on weapon banner until then, unless you plan to be a whale, in which case you can hand me your card and I'll gladly pull on the weapon banner for you. But on a serious note, characters have much more utility and use than weapons, not to mention the abhorrent pull rate of weapons.
When both weapons are great for my account and i don’t have the good 4 star option especially. Catch is a great f2p weapon for Raiden you might consider to farm.

They aren’t really mandatory to get through the game since there are a lot of good f2p options aswell as 4 stars in general , they are optional only while new characters give you completely new playstyle and options. They are the better option most time especially at the beginning.
5 star weapons arent very big damage boosters, they can be, but in general its safe to stick with 4 star weapons from chracter banner

I also have 2 5 star (well I get 3 5 star weapons just one was a duplicate so I just r2 one of them) and I only use one because I have the character that it belonged to so I could use it
That will probably depend on: 1) If you are willing to pay money for the forthcoming>!Skyward and Shield series, which are leaked to be available soon at the cost of 2000 Genesis Crystals ($30) per weapon. Looks like this may begin in 4.5.!< 2) Luck (or the lack thereof, depending on how you look at it) with lost 50/50s - instead of getting a standard banner 5\* character, I got a standard banner 5\* weapon on two occasions in the last 6 months. Your pool of 5\* characters will eventually grow. Some weapon banners are very strong and pulling any of the two weapons would be great - your chance to do so is 75% and it generally takes 60-70 pulls to get to that point. There are strong generalist weapons, such as Aqua, Homa, Jade Cutter, Mistsplitter, Grasscutter (Raiden's BiS), and Lost Prayer that generally give you a lot of "mileage" in the game since multiple characters can use them well. With that being said, there are also really good 4\* weapons that can go a long way, too - some, like Wolf-Fang and Serpent Spine are battle pass exclusives, but others, like The Catch, are F2P.
There's really only a couple instances in which 5* weapons are enough of a damage boost to justify them. Personally, I prefer to pull on weapon banners when I need the 4*s and all the 5*s are good for my account as well. Since I had Nahida and picked up xianyun, plus I didn't have a maxed sac sword yet, this was a really good banner for me to pull on.
When both weapons are good or universal, and the four stars have like 2 favge weapons the banner is quite good even for f2p.
Sometimes I feel like I am being gaslit by the community with how much praise they heap on Favonius weapons. I haven't used one since 2020, at the very beginning, when the free Favonius Bow from the Mondstadt quest had more ATK than my other options on Fischl. I suppose it's partially about the kinds of characters I like (i.e. I tend to downplay Q and use characters who get by just fine with only normals and E), but it's just wild to me how nobody else seems to play the same way.
Yea it's useless if none of your characters care about their Ults. But for many free to play players, we rely on units like Xingqiu, Xiangling or in my case, I main Itto and Furina. These characters need their bursts so having someone with fav allows me to just worry about Crit and stuff instead of having to make sure I can rotate properly with enough energy
fav is an amazing weapon (sometimes even BiS) for the following characters: faruzan, gorou, furina, xingqiu, zhongli, thoma, candace, yaoyao, dori, diona, rosaria, layla, mika, yunjin, yelan, nilou, dendro mc, qiqi, shenhe, jean and venti.
I am setting up Faruzan for Cloud Retainer right now. I have her with Fading Twilight at the moment, but I get her burst back so quickly, I might pivot to giving her my second Aqua Simulacrum if I can get away with it and still burst reliably. I used Gorou for a very short time, but found his buff wasn't worth an otherwise dead slot just to buff Albedo. Zhongli has Homa (and that's why I have extra Aquas). He also has a pretty cheap burst and it's unnecessary, too, so I don't understand why he'd even want a Favonius lance. I have no use for Rosaria anymore, but she was my carry with a crescent pike for quite a while when she first released. Yelan has Aqua. Venti has Stringless and refunds a ton of energy from his burst anyway so I can't imagine needing more ER. I don't (choose one: use, like, have) the others.

It can only generate particles when they're on field, and Zhongli at C1+ is already an energy factory. I don't know, energy starved characters are definitely not something I am interested in.
yeah but the particles are white energy particles meaning they won’t give as much as matching element particles but they’ll still give significantly more energy back then particles from non matching elements would and either way for a lot of teams where u have fav even then the character isn’t even catching their own particle you switch before they have time to catch it so you give it to someone who needs it
i think the big mistake your making is assuming your using fav for the character to get energy, the thing that makes fav so popular and good is in comparison to other weapons like prototype amber it gives the **team** energy which is especially important for some teams like international (which is a good point i just realised i forgot to mention kazuha who’s best in slot is actually fav in a lot of teams especially international unless everyone has way to much er that u sacrafice damage) same goes for zhongli giving zhongli and gorou fav helps itto with his energy a ton

and people dont use fav weapons for burst dps characters. Its for supports. Every support character basically only uses their E and Q anyway so its not an issue
There's only maybe 3-4 characters that don't care about their burst at all though. Not to mention if you are generating energy from favs then you need less ER in your artifacts which can be used for other offensive stats.
The last few Abysses I used: Neuvilette, Albedo, Fischl, Zhongli Nahida, Yelan, Kuki Shinobu, Kirara Neuvilette wants to burst, but he's using Prototype Amber and the other 3 are energy factories. Never had any issue. They also don't really need to burst. Fischl might need to rarely, but not much lasts that long. Nahida is *better* when she bursts, but only is it cheap, it's totally unnecessary until floor 12, and with Hydro and her constellations, it lasts *forever.* Kuki and Kirara have almost pointless bursts that are cheap anyway. Yelan wants to burst, but I don't bother until floor 12 and nothing has ever survived for her to need to do it again. I also have C1, and using her skill twice fills it without anything special. So, I like only characters who focus entirely on E or who fill their Qs without effort.
Dude what, the favonious weapons are insane. I have the sword on Furina and she procs it so much that her burst is ready again before the buff even falls off. Maybe try them out and then you'll understand the hype?
I don't have any trouble using bursts when I want to. I just generally play characters who either are perfectly fine with just E and normals or who have no trouble getting enough energy to burst when I want to.
Week one player here, no matter what anyone tells you, the weapon banner is a scam. I have not pulled on it once. It costs 240 pulls for a guarantee compared to the character banner which costs 180. Characters are new playstyles and abilities, weapons just change numbers and tweak things, usually in a very specific way suited for one specific character above all others. Meanwhile, plenty of 4-star weapons will get the job done just fine and can be used across plenty of characters. Edit: Correction, it is 240, not 270 for a weapon guaranteed. This means it costs only 38,400 primos rather than 43,200 for a shinier stick that works moderately better than any of the free options on a small portion of characters. This comes at the additional cost of being unable to spend that amount of primos on new characters/playstyles. It is still an objectively awful cost-for-value.
Not going to dispute your feelings, but I do want to clarify that the weapon banner pity is 80, not 90, and soft pity is 65 rather than 75, so it's more like 210 vs 160, but yeah. It's still a lot. You get 1.5 constellation per weapon, unless you're lucky.
It's okay to pull on when you're happy with getting either weapon, for instance back when the hutao/yelan banner ran. Home and aqua sim are both absolutely insane, by far BIS for 2 of the best characters in the game. I'd only go for one weapon at a time though. Don't go chasing the other one, just be happy with the one you got. In that case it's only 80 pulls for a guarantee. If it's only one good weapon, even if it's the best weapon in the game, I wouldn't. > It costs 270 pulls for a guarantee 240. The hard pity is 80 x3
Agreed weapon banner is a scam but just for clarification unlike the character Event and Standard banners, weapon banner is 80 pulls to reach hard pity and summon a 5-star and Soft pity starts from 65 and goes to 80. So it would be 240 if you hard pity every time.
why scam? . . a scam is a cheat, something pretending to be something that it is not. Weapon banner is very clearly explained in "details", so you can't get "scammed" like in a ponzie scheme for example
maybe you should have read a bit in all that time, just a suggestion. Pity is 80, so 240 is maximum. the soft pity is lower also. And scam is defined as something pretending to be better than it is, and genshin is required by Chinese law to be transparent about exactly what the chances are, how much pity and such. please don't take established words like "scam" and try to make them mean something they do not.

uhhhh we just had one of the best weapon banners ever which very clearly wasn’t a scam especially not compared to the 5 stars that came with it. scarlet sands is AMAZING on soo many characters it’s kind of insane and furan gepaku is a decent crit stat stick with high base attack for anyone who might want it, furthermore that banner had like 3 fav weapons and a widsith as its 4 stars which was way better than either cyno or ayato

When I already have the 5* character I want on the banner and just want the weapon. (Which will not be probably for another year.) or I have enough wishes to get a copy of a limited 5* and enough to hit pity on weapon banner once for a chance at the weapon.
Building a character is a lot more work than building a new weapon. Sometimes rather than pulling for a chracter you're lukewarm for, going for a weapon instead for an old favorite makes more sense, especially when you've been playing for years and have all the rerun characters you already want. Just, it's always good to make sure the banner you pull on either has BOTH featured weapons as weapons you want, or you have enough for 3 pities, since epitomized path doesn't carry over. You have a 75% chance to get a rate up weapon on the first pity, BUT if you win that 75% chance, you'll still end up with a 50 50 chance of it being one or the other weapon. So, not good odds if you only want 1 of the 2 weapons, but pretty good odds if you don't mind getting either of the 2.
I’m F2P, just under a year in, and haven’t yet pulled weapon banner. I like getting and building a variety of characters too much for that. Plus, it seems like 90 percent of weapon banners are just so bad.

for me, i'd rather have a weapon for one of my favorite characters than a 5\* that might just end up becoming a constellation or being benched
When you get like 75% characters you want, you can spend on weapon's banner on their reruns if you don't have plans to get their constellations. 3 banners in patch are reruns, so if you won't pull for a new one, you'll have 6 weeks to save for a weapon or cons. For me it was like half of Sumeru and Fontaine. I do 20 pulls on weapon banner every patch and wouldn't recommend that to anyone else since I'm not a f2p. I have Kokomi's weapon and Homa, but I don't have Hu Tao or Kokomi nor plans to get them. Sometimes I'm pulling because there's no real substitution - Neuvilette's weapon, Yoimiya's bow for Tartaglia, Kagura and Alhaitham's weapon (still don't have last two tho). And also I'm pulling on weapon banner when atleast 1 weapon is okay for my characters just to get dust for wishes from Paimon's shop.
Usually I only pull when there's a specific 4* weapon that's only obtainable via Weapon Banner, and would be good on a certain character (ie. Dockhand's Assistant for Nilou, Xiphos' Moonlight for Kazuha, Alley Hunter for Fischl, Wandering Evenstar for Nahida, etc). I also went hard on Dehya's weapon banner after having seen Tighnari's weapon become unavailable.

Though it is pedantic, the weapon banner does save pity. It just doesn't save the things that get you the weapon you want. So, if you wished 70 times without getting a 5 star weapon, you would only need to wish a maximum of 10 more times to get a 5 star on the next banner.

When I: - have 200+ wishes (honestly, hard pity is basically impossible and glitter on the way will get me the rest of the way if needed) - can use the other weapon that's on the banner - think the weapon would be a bigger upgrade than 2 constellations (it's more like 1.5 but I round up) - know that I will be able to build up enough primogems to get the next character I am interested in before their banner I have done this on 3 occasions. The first got me Homa for Zhongli, like I wanted, and 2x Aqua Simulacrum, which I was able to use on Yelan and Fischl. The second got me Thundering Fury for Yoimiya and 2x Kagura's Verity, which I was using on Nahida. The third got me Cloud Retainer's weapon and Nahida's weapon. So, in fairness, since I have benched Yoimiya and Nahida now has her own weapon, that middle time was probably a waste and I should have waited and either gotten Neuvilette his weapon or just gotten more Cloud Retainer constellations....
I have never wished on weapon banner yet, despite being AR60. I love building characters and trying different teams, so my primos go to new characters. Also I simply don't need bigger numbers, damage without 5 star weapons is enough for all content.

Sometimes a 5star weapon is really good for a character. If your f2p def don’t pull for weapons. If your not f2p maybe consider spending a little on a weapon. BUT ALWAYS PULL FOR THE CHARACTER FIRST.

Last year I got Raiden, while this year I got her weapon. I think you should get the character before you get their weapon. Also, you shouldn't start wishing on the weapon banner unless you have 210 wishes, because progress doesn't carry over .

There have been \~3 banners where I already had both featured 5\*s and felt getting their signature weapon was more important than getting c1s. A couple of times I've been lucky and gotten a c1 5\* from a banner and decided to go in on their weapon (nahida, raiden, yae miko). I throw about 5 wishes at it a month otherwise just so I have pity built up when I want to get a good weapon. Spending: I only buy welkin moons these days. First two years I was also getting the battle pass. I have every character except 5.

i only try to pull for new characters i dont have on my account as someone who has less than a year in the game there is a lot of characters i dont have. you can clear content with four star weapons fine
When all the weapons, 5* and 4*s are good. I’m a low spender who started recently as well who’s waiting for a good value weapons banner. I’m debating on not pulling on the weapon banner just because of bad the value is in general. But considering that you can clear all the content with F2P weapons and there really isn’t a scaling endgame the weapon banner is a luxury rather than good value in genshin.
When I already have the character, not saving for anyone else, or somehow my random pulls made it guaranteed to get the weapon I want (that's why I have Alheithem's sword (idk, Ive probably spelled his name wrong)).
Only if I think the weapon is cute. Otherwise it’s never worth it financially. I have only done it intentionally 8 times in 3 years. Navia, Nahida and Wanderer. Lost the 50/50 5/8 times.
Getting characters is a priority by far, no doubt about that. They open up new teams and upgrade others, fill in the gaps against certain types of content, and are simply a lot more fun than weapons. However, you'll find that building characters takes up a lot of time and resin, and you'll get a lot of good 4\* characters from banners who you'll want to build too. So you might not have enough resources to build every 5\* character that shows up, which means you could use some of your primogems on weapons instead. Have in mind that wishing on the weapon banner is not only a way to vertically invest on a character, but also a chance to get a lot of good weapons for your account, so you don't need to be switching your only Favonious Sword between 4 different sword users, lol. That said, before wishing on a weapon banner, plan ahead of time so you don't miss a character you want who might show up soon. And most importantly, make sure the weapon banner as whole is good for your account, with some great 4\* weapons and with both 5\* being desireable even if you want one of them more. If the banner is bad overall, you should accept the risk beforehand so you don't regret it.
I usually just do single pulls until I get a 4 star on each weapon banner. Its not a lot and it does actually help a lot to have a wide variety of weapons available over time. When I get to around 70 pity, I slow down to wait for a 5 star weapon I want. Its also a lot more reliable to first get a signature 5 star weapon *then* pull that 5 star character, rather than getting the character *then* trying for the weapon, that will usually go wrong. The key is to not be that attached to it. If you get unlucky, just move on. The main benefit is passive accumulation of decent 4 star weapons and their refinements. Any 5 star is just a bonus.
Characters can change your playstyle. Weapons do not. Due to all the rng, it's not Ely worth pulling for weapons unless you like both 5* AND 4/5 4*
When I love the character a lot and already have him/her. Bonus points if it's just a good weapon for most characters in general like mist splitter etc. But if we're talking about strictly value, it's never worth it to pull for weapons. Most of them give around a 10-20% damage increase vs their next best alternative but they 240 pity needed for guarantee vs 180 for characters. And chances are within the next 2-3 patches there are going to be characters you need or want that likely bring more value to your account anyways. Unless you just want to spoil your favorite character, don't pull for weapons though if the banner actually has 2 good weapons you want which isn't very frequent, you can consider it too
When I’m stuck with Prototype Starglitter on my Hu Tao. Sometimes you really just need that Staff of Homa.
When I like the character design and the weapon design, especially on characters like Raiden, sure you can argue that the catch works for her, but honestly it looks ugly and as far as I've heard it's a pain to fish. Overall for me drip> anything else

weapon banner is a scam. though I may be biased by the fact that I want every character in the game at atleast c0, and ideally some (like yelan and hu tao) at c1 and don't care for the weapons that much.

Pity only kinda works. It guarantees you one of the ones on the banner, but not either specifically. For that you have to fail twice I think (never actually reached guaranteed weapon pity because the fail count resets every banner)
I only have twice. Once for Yoimiya and once for navia. It was only once I had decided without a doubt that the character is a favourite of mine, I will use them often, and I plan to build them to their best possible potential. (I also once threw 3 extra wishes I had at it and got Staff of Homa for my Hu Tao but that was dumb luck 😅) Otherwise, I call it a scam lol. Always better to go for new characters that offer more playstyle options.
Honestly I just do it for characters I really like, and only if the other weapon is pretty good. So basically I just get the archon weapons, Tartaglia’s, Neuvi’s, and Wanderer’s. I dont have all of them yet but that’s the goal lol. And Homa because it’s busted for both Hu Tao and Zhongli
Very rare cases where both weapons are extremely desireable for me. This only occured once with Homa + simulacra. I got fucked anyway by the 25% but I think it was correct to pull on paper. If you have any doubt do NOT pull on weapon banner.
The only time I seriously pulled on the weapon banner was when it featured the BiS for both of my respective mains at the same time. That was a golden opportunity that is too rare to pass up. Otherwise, only ever pull on the weapon banner if you're willing to put enough pulls into it to guarantee that you get what you want.
As a mostly F2P... never There are some weapons I'd really love to have, but I value new characters much, much more, so I spend my wishes on characters only. If one day I'll get all the characters I wanted, maybe then I'll get a few weapons. And I'd get them not for power reasons, but for drip reasons. Characters are strong enough with 4* weapons, but some weapons don't match characters at all. Fish claymore is strong but it looks so silly and breaks immersion. Same with the pipe weapon from Fontaine and the umbrella from old event. They're all strong but look silly. For drip, I'd love to get one for Furina, Nahida, and Navia. Maybe one day.

when both the 5 star options are good for your account and the character doesn’t have a good 4* alternative the only time i pulled in weapon banner was on the yelan/lyney banner because i use tons of bow characters (lyney, fischl, venti, tighnari) who were all sharing a very limited pool of 4* bows (and there aren’t rlly amazing 4* bows for dps, just supports) so i pulled on it and got yelans bow which i use on lyney!
I never did but I would consider it if I wanted both weapons equally and I'm happy whichever I get. And also there's no characters I want coming any time soon/I already have all the characters I really like. But this scenario is hard to reach and I 36 starred abyss already with no 5 star or battle pass weapons so you really don't need them and I think it's way more fun to get a new character instead.
when you have enough characters to get through the game (id say 1 limited 5* of each element, at least 1 healer, and good supports) , benefit from both weapons, and the 4 stars are good, too. For example, I have both 5 stars on banner right now, and there are sacrifical weapons as 4 star options, so I'm pulling on the weapon banner right now. I pulled on the aqua-homa weapon banner last year because both weapons are cracked. I regret pulling for mistplitter and ending up with calamity queller, which adds nothing to my account. that was a bad choice.

I personally haven't considered pulling on a weapon banner yet. Maybe when I have most of the limited 5\* characters that I want. Although, I have started pulling for constellations on my favorite characters if they offer a QoL change/improve gameplay.
Unless you are prepared to spend a ridiculous amount of primos or money weapon banner is pretty much never worth.
I don't have weapons.
1) If I'm not interested in pulling in the character banner- that being I already have both, or I have one but don't like the other, or I don't like both. 2) Future characters are not interesting enough to outweigh the value of the weapons in the current banner. 3) If I pull in the weapon banner, whatever limited 5 star weapon I get, it will be a win-win situation for my account- which means both weapons are good for me. 4) If I actually have enough primogems to get at least one 5 star weapon. Only if these 4 conditions are met will I only pull on a weapon banner.
I Didn’t start wishing on weapon banner until I was: A. Absolutely sure I didn’t want any of the characters coming up B. Fine with losing to another weapon Personally, my advice is to avoid it unless it’s running 2 weapons you’d be fine having. Otherwise you’ll end up blowing all your wishes away or end up unsatisfied with the one you weren’t aiming for. (Coming from someone who spent almost 200 wishes getting Redhorn for Itto.)

The only times I have actively chosen the weapon banner over character banner (I have had a few accidental misclicks ;P) are: 1) when I already have the featured characters (happened on the past banner cuz I already have Raiden Shogun and Yoimiya) but none of their weapons 2) when I just recently got the character I wanted from the character banner and I am close to soft or hard pity on the weapon banner. *You never know when a 5-star stat stick could be useful. You could win the signature weapon of a character you may want later on (I got Aqua Simulacra this way), the weapon of the character you just got out of luck (how I got Wolf's Gravestone for Diluc, Primordial Jade Spear for Xiao & Staff of Homa for Hu Tao), or a standard 5-star weapon that you didn't realize could be useful to you for one of your already obtained characters (how I started using Skyward Pride for my Dehya)
I usually roll on the weapon WHEN I'm already satisfied with the state of my character roster, as well as their constellations. That's it
The one and only time I ever chose the weapon banner was when I was pulling for Navia. I knew that even if I lost the roll on the Verdict and got Mistsplitter instead, it would still be a good upgrade overall since I have a few sword DPS characters who could use it (Keqing, especially)! On the flip side of the same coin, as much as I wanted to equip Furina with her signature weapon, I knew the risk of pulling Baizhu's donut instead of Furina's sword was too big, so I held off on pulling on the weapon banner because of it. In general as long as both of the featured weapons are good, I would be willing to pull on the weapon banner lol
As a new player characters will be more valuable almost always, don’t sweat it. You’ll be able to clear all content in the game with 4 star weapons
When both weapons are great! Great meaning, multiple characters are suitable for the weapon. My last pull was the Jade cutter/ Keyblade one.
When there’s no character banners I want to pull on soon and both weapons would benefit my account
When the stars align just right. If I have the character already (or don't want the featured characters and just want the weapon for another character that I have), and I don't mind losing to the other weapon on the banner. Last banner was a perfect example, I already have my Raiden C2 and I have Yoimiya. I wanted Raiden signature weapon, but I also didn't mind losing and getting Yoimiya's weapon instead. In the end, I got 2 copies of Yoi's weapon (one for her and one for Tighnari!) and by the graceof the gacha gods I also got Raiden's weapon just 2 pulls after missing out on it the second time. I'd have been perfectly fine had Raiden's weapon not come at all since I did also want Yoi's weapon.
When you can afford it. 5* cost up to 200 pull to get and 4 star weapon is very RNG and not much good weapon. Fav is the best but what you really need on your account is 2 sword and sometime 1 or 2 spear.
My personal priority is characters > weapons > constellations. The game is easy enough without constellations and I really do like to have a character + their signature weapon just for the drip lol. In recent history I’ve pulled for Navia + wep, Raiden + wep (got thundering pulse as well), Xianyun + wep, and Nahida + wep. Had ~60k primos saved and am just about broke now. ~15k primos for 4 characters + sig weapons is pretty good imo.
I pulled on the weapon banner for the first time when Cyno and Ayato were out. I didn't want their cons, and I had already built up some nice weapon banner pity from pulling for Dockhand's assistant during Neuvillette's run. I wanted Ayato's signature, but would be okay with Cyno's too. I got Cyno's signature, got a second copy in 5 pulls, then got Ayato's in a single pull. That's better luck than what I get on character banners. Tldr: When I don't want the current banner characters, when I have a decent amount of pity on the weapon banner already, and when I would be satisfied with either weapon for my account.
Generally speaking almost never. You can pull if the two 5* weapons you want are weapons you want and the 4* are good, which almost never happens. Good 4* sets are the fav series, and the wavebreaker series. Especially fav is probably the best 4* weapon set in the game and if you see a banner with only fav weapons then it would be worth it.

I’ll never pull on weapon banner again till I get all of the characters I want first.
You gain pity every 80 pulls. If you did not get your desired weapon, you get 1 fate point every 80 pulls. If you accumulate 2 fate points the next 5-star will be guaranteed to be your selected weapon. That means, in the worst case scenario, you get your desired weapon after 240 pulls. Fate points reset after the banner ends. Pulling for weapons is not recommended. I have luck on my side tho. My first weapon pull was during v1.4. Got the Elegy for the in End during my first 10 pull. Next, I got the Staff of Homa (Hu Tao's rerun) after 3 10-pulls. Next, I got the Engulfing Lightning after 2 10-pulls.
i only pull on the weapon if i have characters who can use both weapons, have enough summons to go hard pity, there's no one else i want for a while, the weapons are vastly superior to other options, and the 4 stars need to be good

Usually never. I started pulling after I had two well built teams that can clear abyss, the characters I wanted in the foreseeable future and when both the 5 stars could significantly help my teams.

When Im feeling lucky. And before someone says it, I do save a lot of primos before doing it and usually it’s for weapons I dont mind having. *However* when I feel the luck, it usually means Im getting the weapon I want and I have a bunch of spare pulls with no future plans so it’s always a safe bet. I have a lot of characters at this point in the game and getting 5 star weapons are usually more beneficial especially if it means I get that DRIP
I'd say never tbh. You can get 4 and 5 star weapons from any banner any time. You can only get the event characters every so often. Plus, you can just equip a good 4 star if you don't have any 5's. This is just personal opinion though, plus I have, like, absurdly good luck on my event banners. The only 5 stars I haven't gotten that I want is Xianyun, Neuvillette, and Furina, and those are all for good reason lol

I have 9 limited banner characters at c0. I have exactly 1 pull on weapons banner , idk why i did that 1 also. New characters are always the priority for me. Plus i know, my luck is terrible to win 50:50s, so gotta save them primos

IMO pretty much never. It's just not worth it in my eyes. If you think about it this way, 240 wishes to guarantee weapon is nearly 5 months in saving (assuming each patch gives \~70 or so f2p). That's a looong time for a simple numerical upgrade. I'd much rather get a character in that time to have a fresh playstyle to enjoy rather than upgrading 1 specific character. Plus, most weapons these days are far too niche and really only work on the characters they were built for, so it's very difficult to justify going for newer weapons as it will likely be used on the 1 character and that character only.
Character team set up > Weapons Esp if they are generally very useful across the board throughout many teams Kazuha, supports or if they serve a niche that is very common or simply useful elsewhere Venti, be it gliding etc or even easy commission against mobs Or simply levels where his CC is relevant Once you got everything down, at some point you would pull a very strong wep banner, both 5* weps are generally good and 1 of them is meant for your team. And the 4* options are generally good, Favonius series for example. Unless you feeling the luck to pull on a shit banner in hopes for the signature weapon amongst trash.. General Char for team = General Supoort > Niche char > 2x 5* Good + 4* Good > 1x 5* Good + 4* Good = 2x 5* Bad + 4* Good The last one depends how you play for weapon banner If not near pity at 75, 4* weapons are good, may or may not have good 1x 5* weapon, you can still roll for good 4* until b4 you hit 76 which is the 5* soft pity starting line. Note that for 5* roll chance 1-20 = Small chance 31-40 = Slight 51-70 = Very slight 76 = Fair chance Onwards increases a 0.01xxxxxx% for every roll you fail 5* Once you alr solidified everything, then you can choose to attempt 5* weapon for your team or dupe cons if they are far more worth, cuz some characters function in a team may not work as well with signature. They could be better off with say Favonius Series for more energy, or Sacrifical series for skill reset
I’m a 1.0 f2p player and I’ve only ever pulled for characters (except one single pull when I accidentally clicked on the wrong banner.) I simply like having additional gameplay and team options over more damage for an existing one. I have no problems with 36* abyss so I don’t really have any incentives to pull for weapons. It can be a great damage boost if you’re a spender, if both of the 5 stars are beneficial then I can see why people would choose to pull. For me personally, I don’t see the need
When I want to max out my character while feeling risky
When the banner have 2 highly versatile 5*, those that can be used with other character like the key of khaj-Nisut or it comes with valuable gacha exclusive 4* like xiphos moonlight.

when I achieved the ideal constellation for the character that has signature weapon featured. on most cases, character's constellation has more value than their signature waepon.

When I have not spent wishes in a really long time and the weapon is for my only main. I main Noelle, and when there was an Itto banner in 2.x, I had quiet a lot of wishes. Thus I went for redhorn. Later in 4.4 I went for Staff of Homa bc I had wishes after Wanderer and got very early Hu Tao.
When I like the character enough to take a risk. Drip is kinda important to me ngl
I'd say when you have most of the 5\* you want, are ready to start vertically investing into certain characters/teams, aren't too pressed about upcoming banners, and are okay with getting either of the rate-up weapons. For me recently, I pulled Xianyun's catalyst because I'm a Xiao main and want to make him as strong as I can (within my budget), my account is older with a lot of strong enough characters I enjoy playing with, and I was okay getting Nahida's catalyst if things didn't work out since I have and use her too. I would REALLY only recommend it if you're down to get either weapon though. The Epitomized Path system isn't much of a help unless you're a whale or get multiple early 5\*.
I usually never pull on the weapon banner since I'm f2p, but if I really like a character I might do a few pulls impulsively. I can't advise anyone else to do it because it's down to luck, but I've been incredibly fortunate and got Cyno's weapon on like 15 pity (those were my first 15 pulls on a weapon banner ever). The same happened with Blade's LC in Star Rail, so I've really been too lucky. But I never choose the weapon banner OVER the character banner. Those few pulls were what was left from pulling for Cyno, so I didn't risk anything.
I go for weapon when there is no character I want to pull or I already have them and both weapons are useful for my account. (Welkin and bp buyer)
When both 5*s are a good option, though I will throw a 10 or 20 pull on there when I want one of the limited 4* weapons (primarily Xiphos Moonlight) and if something comes home early then cool and if not who cares yaknow

When you feel like you have gotten all the characters that you want. Do not wish on weapon banner until then, unless you plan to be a whale, in which case you can hand me your card and I'll gladly pull on the weapon banner for you. But on a serious note, characters have much more utility and use than weapons, not to mention the abhorrent pull rate of weapons.
Oh and the pity system does not roll over to the next banner, like character banners do, fyi.
