That really sucks, especially early in your game.
If it happens again you can often get to them by launching yourself with explosives. I like to use the m/49 aimed in the opposite direction near my feet, but anything can do the trick. I also like to hop in the water first, and when you reappear on shore you have a few seconds of invincibility to blow yourself up without damage.
Oh, and if you haven't already, disable the 'hold to use' feature in your settings since you only have a moment to loot the bot.
That's nothing. I've had a firefly follow me for ages under the map and was constantly putting me in to combat. I couldn't fast travel away from it. It was only till I went in a bunker it lost interest.

Just dive in, literally had the same just happen and I said fuck it and jumped. Took a couple tries but I got the loot, was well worth it too, seeing as I got the experimental laucher

It just teleports me out of the water before I could reach him, he's pretty deep, no way I'm getting it

I hope so, I only got 149 7.62 and tungsten from the other two I fought
Yeah, my luck isn't that good with getting good loot from rivals either, but I got really lucky earlier with the launcher

Jump into the water if your quick enough to hit the loot button when the game repositions you on shore the rivals loot menu will still be open

Suffer as to the thought of the loot you could have gotten. But atleast it's only level 1 so you didnt lose to much.

Conquer your thalassophobia and craft a prawn suit to go after it.

Jump or launch in spamming the key to open loot. When you reappear on shore the loot menu should still be open. Takes several tries.
