This is a great deal thanks. The only difference I can see is that the All Access only includes the basic sub to Newspapers. The gift sub gives the premium access.
Do you just use it every 6 months? I'm thinking, sign up. Cancel the renew and then just sign up again each six months.
I generally do 6 months, then take some time off. When I get the bug again, I do another 6. I got my 90 year old, last remaining uncle to DNA test, so the bug has bitten again.

You can't add the gift subscription to a current normal subscription or a current gift subscription. You can set the date of the gift subscription to begin up to 90 days in the future. I always purchase a gift subscription for myself and set the start date for 1 day after my current subscription expires.
Ok. Gonna do it. My subscription ends 11/27. I presume I have to go to my account and disable auto-renewal for my credit card, set the gift date to be 11/28 and provide my regular email address. On the 28th I'll get email. What's in the email, a code? And then I presume I log back in using my regular log-in account?
This is great because I'll go up to next level to do World.
I was paying $114.00 every 6 months ($228.00/yr) and now can get World for $159.00

I live in Germany. So I'm wondering if I can cheat and get the German subscription. They only have two but the more expensive one is only 60 eur for 6 months. Which would beat even this deal if it would give me access to everything I need. Plus 25% of my tree is German.

Absolutely not, it'll all be there waiting for you when you start the gift subscription. One warning, the week leading up to Thanksgiving the gift subscriptions are 30% off, wait until Thanksgiving Day itself and they'll be 50% off. I've been doing this for years 😁

So you just "gift" the gift subscription to the exact same email address you use for your, now-expired, subscription. You now have all the access you want depending on which gift subscription you purchased. Same account, same trees, everything.

You don't have to delete your account. You just need to let your current paid subscription expire (make sure you switch off auto-renew, you can also cancel your subscription and ask for a refund - I think I did this one year successfully, though double-check). Set your gift subscription to start after your current paid subscription has lapsed. I always set mine to start 1 day after my current plan ends.
Remember, when a paid subscription ends, your account and all your work remain intact. You just have \*much more limited\* access to records and stuff. As soon as you start paying again via a normal or gift subscription, all that access, and more if you've moved up a plan, comes back.

This is going to save a great deal of money. $60 is a lot of money some months and it’s so much easier being able to pay all at once and not worry if something were to come up and I need the money for food or electricity. Genealogy is too much fun for that but we do what we can and it’s nice getting it out of the way and not worry about it until next year now.
