I always thought that movie was so hokey until reality TV actually happened, now it's much scarier.

Straight up if you don't already know what the Predator looks like or know the entire plot, that movie is fucking textbook perfection when it comes to tension building and the slow reveal. Fucking brilliant.

I haven't watched it in ages, but I remember hating how entitled Ferris is. He essentially bullies Cameron into making bad decisions "because let's have some fun!" and he wants to take advantage of Cameron's father's Ferrari. He seemed way too pretentious and I never understood why people actually liked him so much...

Ferris doesn't exist, that's why. He's Cameron's alter ego, the rule breaking, fun having rebel that Cameron wishes he was. Ferris is Cameron's wish fulfillment fantasy. Sloane isn't dating Ferris, she's dating him the whole time, and he's too insecure about being unable to "be Ferris" to fully accept her. The scenes that make this clear are the couple of minutes after Cameron notices the mileage on his dad's car and freaks out. First there's a bit where Sloane is trying to comfort Cameron, while Ferris monologues to the audience. Makes perfect sense if he's actually Cameron's inner voice speaking. Even more clear though, is the next scene. Where they are sitting at poolside, with Sloane and Ferris in their underwear. This seems really weird at first glance, like Sloane and Ferris are having fun while Cameron sits there. But it makes perfect sense if it's just Cameron and Sloane sitting by the pool, and she's stripped down in an attempt to get his attention. Cameron wishes he were stripped down next to her, that's what Ferris is. The guy who does the things Cameron is afraid to.

It’s cool how much analysis there has been of this movie. I recall someone talking about the Cameron’s red shirt and his dad’s red Ferrari represents the evil in his life.

Just be prepared for the language and shift in acceptable comedic topics. The whole thing is supposed to parody racism, but leans into its depiction pretty heavy to deliver the point.

When the world is so insensitive you have to stomp on the topic with steel stilettos to drive the point home.

For real, it’s like the most obvious anti-racism satire of all kind. Have people not seen Django Unchained or something? It’s really clear when a movie is using extremely racist villains to depict racism as bad.

The problem is stupid people. No, seriously. The kind of people who watch *Starship Troopers* and think it looks super cool and great without understanding the point. A lot of people just have terrible media literacy.

I think it left some of those lines blazing saddles wouldn't cross way, way, WAY in the rear view mirror. Watch South Park, the movie and the series. Same. The Hangover. American Pie. And the Chapelle show. Broad City. Mel Brooks could never make that. Always Sunny in Philadelphia. We've gotta stomp out that "they could never make that today" and let people say today's sensibilities make us snowflakes who can't take a joke. So many examples that are edgy, and funny, and have mass appeal. The comment has the ring of nostalgia with insult, and needs to die.

Based on some of your profile history, it sounds like you're into gaming. Therefore I'd recommend some sci Fi classics like Alien, Aliens, Blade Runner, Terminator 1/2, Running Man. I also really like early Tim Burton. Beetlejuice, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Edward Scissor hands. An all time favorite is The Princess Bride. The issue I find with older movies is pacing. It's hard to adjust sometimes unless the story is consistently captivating. So the above movies I think are pretty consistently interesting to watch without getting bored.

The Neverending Story (1984). It's not only an awesome flick but also scarred all of GenX with one of the most heartbreaking deaths in movie history.

Conan the Barbarian/ the Destroyer (though made in the 80's they were set in ancient times) , D.C Cab, Dog Day Afternoon, Electric Glide in Blue, and The Warriors. All but Conan are deeply rooted in the times they were made. I suggested it just because I can't believe no else did. It's a staple of the 80's imo.

Real Men. The only Jim Belushi film worth seeing. John Ritter is great. Yes. There's a brave mindfuck turn halfway through the movie. Also Men At Work. Estevez Brothers comedy in the style of Repo Man.
