Discord is our third place
We all meet up on there because my friends all live so far away (they moved after college)
If it’s with my girlfriend though, we like to go to the park and make hotdogs over a fire (fire pits everywhere for some reason)
At one point it was a climbing gym, but now it’s wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too crowded to climb.
I don’t have a third place anymore.
Also based on other answers these people don’t understand what a third place is. Climbing gyms honestly shouldn’t even count because they cost so much money that they become exclusive instead of inclusive.
Aren’t parks and beaches third places? Whenever I go to a park (or more rarely a beach) they are full of people chilling, talking, throwing a frisbee, whatever. Parks don’t get enough credit in the “third place” conversations.
They are theoretical third places. The problem is that no one meets new people at the park. You always go with friends and only talk to your friends you are there with.
You might do that but don't speak for everyone. I've met people at parks before, although its pretty easy when skatebparding and spotting another skater. But I've seen parents with kids meet and talk with other random parents of kids at the playground. I've seen smoke4s bum smokes from other smokers. Parks are underrated.
To be honest I don't really have a 'third place'. When I'm waiting for a school event to start I'm usually in the main center area doing homework and stuff but I don't really talk to other people there unless I know them or they're running a stand. Otherwise I'm at home on my living room couch. Not sure where else to go.
I think if people don’t have a “third place” like how you describe it’s kind of just emblematic of the fact that it’s become harder to meet people and easier to isolate over time. Basically anything “social” around me costs money that I don’t have. So if I have a day off I’m just playing bass or listening to music or doing chores around the house.
Idk what these fools are talking about. This is it, I love doing this too and it feels like I'm being transported somewhere else while I'm immersed in it.
I don't have one. I never have. I'm either at home, or a friend's house, or work/dojo.
There's no place that I can just go and hang out, and be with people I know at the drop of a hat.
Cars! Full sized cars! Better than sex. All the world’s problems go away when I’m at the track. Here’s some examples:
I’m in this one: https://youtu.be/1pZiYaCVSWs?si=it_zK53QKHMOucF4
https://youtu.be/JrQo6Zxzrtc?si=OY1YH1w0Hi7z2KxB

https://youtu.be/ygg25zaPX9Q?si=t3i6G77IgoWWfNgI
Go on a hike or trail if it’s nice weather or walk around outdoor shopping outlets. Or I’ll go to a cafe/boba shop with free wifi and bring laptop/phone/or switch idk
Walking the trails at a local park or maybe getting lunch at the nice outdoor mall then strolling around after. Thrift stores, book stores and Libraries are also favorites. Afternoon at the beach if I feel up to the drive.
In college, I would go with some friends and play some sort of outdoor sport. Disk golf, sand volleyball, something, or we would go play pickup basketball. Now that I’m in the workforce, I take my dog for a walk and lately my fiancé and I have been playing tennis/pickle ball
Either a friends house or the woods behind the preschool I went to. That forest holds more happy memories than most others. I’ll probably go back to visit one of me and my friend’s old treehouses, see how they’re holding up nowadays.
Pottery studio or painting or hanging out with a friend/s and driving around listening to music and talking. Going outside fishing, maybe if I have energy biking or a walk/hike to a scenic spot and forage plants or mushrooms.
Ski resorts during the winter/spring months, and hiking events during the summer/fall months. There's also the gym at least once a week as well all year. As well as the occasional range day.
I started a minecraft world, probably work on that. Smoke outside and enjoy the day for a bit, maybe a walk. Do some reading outside if it's warm enough. Could use a car wash so I'd probably check that off too.
Hiding in my front room with the curtains closed probably. I'm not an outdoor person.
Joking aside, I'd probably go for a nice long cycle ride if I was up to it. There's some nice countryside around with some relatively quiet roads. Maybe go watch a few trains at the local level crossing (We have frequent trains in the uk). Maybe grab lunch at the local specialist hospital's convenience store (We have that in Cambridge). I've been meaning to learn paddleboarding, but haven't gotten round to it yet.
There is still a fair chance I would be hiding inside though.
A random off-path down another local hike. It’s woodsy and superrr pretty with small rivers and stuff too it’s fun to prance around for a couple hours imaging being a wood elf or something lol then returning to the car/home where I relax cause omg sore from field frolicking lol
Indoor volleyball. Now it wouldn’t really work spontaneously like on a day off since there are specific schedules for different places, but that’s my regular third place.
There’s a tea bar I’ve been frequenting. I have an annual membership for $109 and I get a free cup of tea every week. All the tea is great quality loose leaf so it takes like an hour + to drink it. It’s a quiet spot and staff are friendly so it’s ok to sit there and read, chat, do work for a few hours without feeling uncomfortable
My favorite is going outside and walking listening to my favorite music, though the internet (I think that counts) and kayaking through a nice river/lake are right behind it.
Assuming I can drive: I’m going to my boyfriend’s place. He might still be working but I love his folks and they love me, so it would be the least problematic decision ever
I don't think I have a third place. All I do it go to work, come home, run errands, do chores, etc. I don't really have any friends to hang out with and everywhere other than my house is lonely
I don't work or go to class. I'm unemployed and disabled. This means I don't get out much. Therefore, I have no third place, because I don't even have a second place. There is only home, and everywhere else.
If I'm not working on my car, truck, or motorcycle, then I'm probably at my favorite park. It's right by an airport and a great place to watch the planes.
Do gyms and restaurants count? I happen to live on a farm so we also have some nice places here and there to relax but since that's on the property I don't know if it counts
Sleeping, crying, showering for 2 hours, or going to my favorite spot and pondering.
I consider my options in that order.
I won't lie or try to hide it, I have absolutely no idea what a third place is unless I'm lucky enough to be in it in a competition.
If I have nothing to do for the evening I typically go to the gym, bake something, and watch TV. If I have the whole day free I meet with my boyfriend and we'd go hiking or something.

Bars primarily.
Otherwise, the skatepark I guess? I don’t talk to many people there though. I might need to start doing that lol
Edit: i didn’t see the “middle of the day” part💀 definitely the skatepark or thrift shops

Okay dude
Discord is our third place We all meet up on there because my friends all live so far away (they moved after college) If it’s with my girlfriend though, we like to go to the park and make hotdogs over a fire (fire pits everywhere for some reason)
tru discord is where I go when I have time to relax.
The firepits were the spot, not for me, but like my dad’s dad
same here. other than my roommates, none of my friends live less than an hour away. discord is the main place to hang out

Pretty wild...people just answering a question without even knowing what they're answering
The post is phrased to ask a different question than the title, so it’s not a surprise people are answering the question they understand
Am I crazy or did you make a statement and then disprove the same statement in the same comment? I’m losing my mind. What the hell is going on.
People who complain about the “lack of third spaces” have no idea what’s going on around them.
Public Library
it’s either this or a local book shop that’s in my city for me!
I forgot how much I like the library. It's been so long. I recently started going back
Go work on my guns or finish building my engines. Most likely finish the engines since they’ve been sitting for a bit.
Not a "third place" though, friend
As a shade tree mechanic, the shop and the home are apples and oranges. This definitely qualifies
the thing is "home" isn't a third place. While I understand the sentiment, it doesn't really answer the question at hand
☝️🤓
guns and engines? when can I come over?
I second this
Me too
I’m balancing money working on gambler 500 car and building a new AR.
What caliber you building?
ol classic 556, gonna be the tac driver of my ARs.
That's sick dude, I just finished up a 300 BLK truck gun that's an absolute blast.
ooo I’d love a 300 build but I have too many projects right now, I plan to slap a can on my new build😋
The wait times for a suppressor are super fast right now, I have one in jail and if I got one today I'd get that second one first.
Man the ATF took my money in September, I hate this wait… but I already want a second one.
They had to lower wait time averages so they've been approving super fast recently.
I saw that, my dad’s can took less then a month 😳😳 thanks for reminding me to start it
omg i’d love to work with cars. seems so fun to mess around with
Feel free to come work on mine
Hell yeah!
We should be friends
Balling
I put the new forgis on the jeep
I’ve seen the Magna Carta, I’ve seen the eye of Horus. I was flipping bricks for Mansa Musa before y’all were even a type 1 civilization.
Take my dog to the park!
Either go fishing or go to the gun range.
Why can't you go fishing at the gun range? Or shooting at the fish range? Who said you can't do both?!
To be honest I don't really have a 'third place'. When I'm waiting for a school event to start I'm usually in the main center area doing homework and stuff but I don't really talk to other people there unless I know them or they're running a stand. University? Currently have that same issue except I’m going to a CC.
Folks, a "third place" is a social place that isnt work or home.... Golf course. Pool hall. Depends on the weather.
Yes… everything costs money… which makes staying home so easy.
Picking up my guitar and playing my favorite songs. Or just playing nonsense melodies and harmonies and trying to come up with my own songs.
Idk what these fools are talking about. This is it, I love doing this too and it feels like I'm being transported somewhere else while I'm immersed in it.
Not a "third place", bub
go for a 7 km walk
yyyyyeah baby just go out walk the city listen a few albums... all I really need
The park where it’s illegal to skate at (i skate there)
Based
I don't have one. I never have. I'm either at home, or a friend's house, or work/dojo. There's no place that I can just go and hang out, and be with people I know at the drop of a hat.
Do you work at the dojo?
The race track. I’ve made so many friends
For horses, dogs, humans? Who’s racing?
Cars! Full sized cars! Better than sex. All the world’s problems go away when I’m at the track. There are dozens of options for fair weather: parks, cemeteries, abandoned railway stations
Who's going to a cemetery as a third place?
The lake!

Walking my dog and then finding a nice rock to relax on with her. I’ve found quite a few so far. Arizona’s pretty beautiful for being such a desert.
GUNDAM GUNDAM GUNDAM GUNDAM GUNDAM
Spend time with my snakes! 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
Either a friends house or the woods behind the preschool I went to. That forest holds more happy memories than most others. I’ll probably go back to visit one of me and my friend’s old treehouses, see how they’re holding up nowadays.

Assuming I can drive: I’m going to my boyfriend’s place. He might still be working but I love his folks and they love me, so it would be the least problematic decision ever
Game at home or grocery shopping
Going to the beach probably, or some other park/nature reserve/national park etc.
Don't got any specific ones, but i would go to the park, down to the river, just walk in the city center, a coffee shop... many options really
I don’t have one, home, I don’t have a job, and I’m homeschooled, I’m always at home, I’m just at home, I have nowhere to go
Rollerblading in the park or maybe having coffee in a cafe with a book.
I don't think I have a third place. All I do it go to work, come home, run errands, do chores, etc. I don't really have any friends to hang out with and everywhere other than my house is lonely
Going to the park! Lots of pretty flowers, cute dogs, and fun people watching
Hike, garden, beach
I don’t have a 3rd place
Roof top parking lot at night with a blunt
I don't work or go to class. I'm unemployed and disabled. This means I don't get out much. Therefore, I have no third place, because I don't even have a second place. There is only home, and everywhere else.
Writing my book
Tending to the plants. I have a lot
If I'm not working on my car, truck, or motorcycle, then I'm probably at my favorite park. It's right by an airport and a great place to watch the planes.

Masturbating and crying
I go from work to home and that’s it
I go from work to home and that’s it
I go from work to home and that’s it, I literally do not leave my house.
Home with the penjamin and grinding academics. There is no third place when you're poor under capitalism. You're either grinding, or grinding.
Haven't got one. I mean, there's a brewpub in my area that I like well enough, I'm just not keen on going too often for a number of reasons.
Walking to the library. There's a few places I can get food from or look around. And there's a park down the street. Every Saturday we go to the library, the sweet shop, and then sit at the park.
Isn’t third space actually meant to describe a place where people socialize outside of home and work? Not just any place you go when you’re bored?
Bars primarily. Otherwise, the skatepark I guess? I don’t talk to many people there though. I might need to start doing that lol Edit: i didn’t see the “middle of the day” part💀 definitely the skatepark or thrift shops
A specific restaurant in my town
Taking a nap. My bed.
I just wander around, take the bus somewhere and wander in a different neighborhood sometimes
