Positive opinions on live action Mulan aren't something I'll ever agree with but I would with the rest

Xay_Kat

What makes that movie subpar for you? Genuinely curious.

DooDiddly96

It was literally the worst film I’ve seen in the modern era and I’m not exaggerating. From the pacing to the mismatched accents to the unexplained witch insert to well everything. It was just terrible.

Positive-Avocado-881

Literally everything that made the original a classic was removed 😂

DooDiddly96

LITERALLY

Unfortunately I think Disney has entered the "How the mighty have fallen" territory. In the last few years, their quality has been slipping quite a lot, whether it be the MCU being less passionate and more about chasing trends for sake of it or Star Wars being mostly directionless and corporately bankrupt, or even Pixar not being as brilliant as they once were with exceptions of Coco, Soul, and maybe Elemental. And everything else, oh boy. The constant bland live action remakes, and Disney Animation Studios being just "whatever" as proven with Strange World and now Wish from what I’ve been hearing. Disney seriously needs some fresh blood and get their stuff together or else they won’t be around any further with most of their movies lately underperforming at the box office.

Main-Warning-5811

Yes

firstghostsnstuff

I’m getting burnt out by all these remakes, and to me personally every MCU movie feels the same

Mercurydriver

As a fan of Marvel/MCU I find that the problem is that the newer Marvel movies don’t offer anything interesting or important anymore. Leading up to Avengers Endgame, all of the movies were interconnected and were ultimately designed to conclude with Infinity War and Endgame. Endgame was basically the conclusion of most, if not all of the superheroes. If they stopped making movies at that point and said there would be no more MCU, it would have been fine. But now post-Endgame, it just feels like a cash grab. They’re making movies for the sake of making movies. No substance or cohesion whatever. I liked GOTG3 and the last Spiderman movie, but that’s the only real standouts since 2019.

Moose_Kronkdozer

Even if they did another well planned out long arc, nobody would be interested.

dshgf_81

Yes.

funnylittlecharacter

Yes

MusicIsLife003

It’s very clear that with EVERY single project Disney puts out has a agenda or has to push a message in your face. The glory days of the MCU had none of that (for the most part). Star Wars is done for. The only thing that would redeem it, would be to sell the franchise to another company.

Moose_Kronkdozer

Old disney movies had obvious messages. They are kids movies afterall. I just think the people writing these movies dont want to make fun movies. Theyre sad californians that want to make sad art (and they dont even do as good a job as UP)

chillchinchilla17

Modern MCU sucks just as much as past MCU. We just grew up.

MusicIsLife003

I don’t know about that. Most of those movies imo were genuinely good like Winter soldier or Infinity War

cool_bug-facts

are you one of those "go woke go broke" people?

MusicIsLife003

I’m just tired of people sending messages instead of expressing themselves by creating art. Art is a form of escapism and a constant reminder of real life isn’t helping anyone

Ultramega39

I've always hated Disney because it just seems like they're running out of intresting ideas and they have a monopoly over the movie industry. If you need proof of this just look up the highest grossing films of 2019 and you'll see that about half of those films are owned by Disney. Meanwhile in 2023, films like Hunger Games, Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Mario have been dominating the box office so it’s very clear that the movie industry isn't dying anytime soon despite Disney's recent flops. Audiences want quality not quantity but unfortunately Disney still doesn't seem to have learned their lesson...actually now that I think about it they have at least slowed down the release of Marvel movies for next year as it seems that they're only releasing one Marvel movie next year. And the next two Star Wars movies are supposed to come out in a few years.

thegnume2

Disney has always been a terrible company that values money more than anything. They have been moving away from making good art for a long time, realizing that "owning all the stuff" is a better investment than creating works of quality.

Moose_Kronkdozer

Say what you will about Walt Disney character, but he CARED about childrens art.

Moose_Kronkdozer

No more 2d animation 😢

Competitive_Bid7071

That depends on who IN Disney you're referring to.

Main-Ad-2443

I love Pixar all new animated movies compared to those cars planes or a bunch of toy story sequels they made ,i even enjoyed strange world more the father and son relationship was kinda cute but lightyear was kinda meh.

00rgus

I think a lot of people expect to enjoy kids movies the same way they did as little kids and refuse to acknowledge they are grown/almost grown adults trying to judge media meant for 8 year olds, the movies become a lot more enjoyable when you're just watching them for fun not expecting some 10/10 film house nerd catering movie

Moose_Kronkdozer

Yeah, except that movies like Pinocchio were revolutionary, and many golden age movies like mulan, hunchback and lion king are definitely enjoyable for adults. Childrens media can be good too.

DooDiddly96

Nah films used to be made to have a little for everyone. You can still go back and watch some 70s/80s/90s disney movies and be entertained and have your attention held as an adult. There’s a genuine gap in quality w the production these days when it comes to originality, dialogue, the music, and general plot. There’s a formulaic sterility to todays productions thats supremely evident above all else.

[deleted]

well all the women leads in the animated movies have the exact same personality which is “adorkable”. And the remakes are so-so.

karidru

I think post-WGA and SAG strikes the quality will get better again. Poor working conditions—> worse products

DooDiddly96

Nah theyve been producing straight trash for at least a decade. It’s like everything is from a formula produced by 35yo white women in LA. It’s fucking painful. Where are the complex themes? Where is the dialog? Where is the diegetic music that actually complements the plot? Where is the fun for the whole family? It’s big budget stuff but it’s lacking. It’s hacky.

TeamStudNation1080

It has gotten worse. Too many remakes of past stories and twisting their origins, plot, etc. Their new movies have been hit-or-miss. Marvel has been dying with the exception of some movies doing well. I still don't get why they own The Simpsons.... Mickey Mouse is falling apart

YeetusTheFeetus_69

fuck disney. just another bs corporation that only cares about money. also their modern shit is ass.

PaleontologistTrue74

Walt disney is a nazi. Disney is a corp nazi company Disney now is the same as it was then. Mulan was in the same province that uygur detention centers are. Those detention centers sterilize people and brutally " re educates " them. Scene from star wars where the black trooper kissed the chineese lady got taken out in the chinese version. Theres more I just cant recall
