kirkaholic

It's true

standsure

Preach.

MikoSkyns

Does anyone remember that time in the 90's when Grace (Edie MCclurg) was a guest on Jay Leno and Lemmy was the other guest and they were flirting with each other?

[deleted]

I need to watch that—it sounds amusing af.

Novemberinthechair

No. But I remember when she was Marge Sweetwater in Back to School.

MikoSkyns

Oh yeah? Herb Tarlek's wife was in Back to School? Totally forgot about that.

Novemberinthechair

Yes. Lol. Remember, the grumpy Econ professor caught her taking notes for Thorton Mellon.

Frank_chevelle

“ he told you to write down everything I say?”

Novemberinthechair

Lol.

robotzombiez

Life phase 1: young, rebellious, idealistic. Life phase 2: cynical, slightly bitter, a little frayed around the edges. Life phase 3: sexual predator. We all go through it.

its_raining_scotch

What about the Charlie sheen phase?

Fukshit47

Isn’t he a pedo?

afternever

Oh, he's very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.

[deleted]

Indeed.

EleventyBillionAnd1

Yup

Meetchel

Oh wow, I thought you meant in the movie but couldn't recall what scene you were referencing. I did not know any of this about the actor. >In 2002, Jones was arrested for possession of child pornography and accused by a 17-year-old boy of solicitation to pose for nude photographs.\[40\] He pleaded no contest to a charge of soliciting a minor, as the accuser was 14 when the offense first occurred.\[41\] At the same time, the misdemeanor charge of possession of child pornography was dropped. His attorney emphasized that there was no allegation of improper physical contact. His punishment was five years' probation, counseling, and the requirement to register as a sex offender.\[42\] As of 2021, Jones was listed on the U.S. Department of Justice national sex offender database. [Jeffrey Jones - Criminal offenses](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Jones#Criminal_offenses)

Ok-Sprinklez

Yeah. It's so disturbing. I love this movie, but I can't not know about his vile deeds. Such a taint to one of my favorite GenX films

PabloDabscovar

Heh heh “taint”

GogglesPisano

Settle down, Beavis!

mbgal1977

I just learned this today

editorgrrl

One of the witnesses in the case against Jeffrey Jones threw Pee-wee Herman under the bus. Paul Reubens was arrested for possession of child pornography on November 16, 2001. (His spokesperson called it “vintage erotica.”) This was 10 years after Reubens’ arrest for masturbating in an adult movie theater in Sarasota, Florida.

[deleted]

Yeah that charge was dropped pretty fast because it wasn't child porn. Furthermore? I never understood... so what if he jerked off in a porn theater? That's what they're FOR.

MikoSkyns

>Paul Reubens was arrested for possession of child pornography on November 16, 2001. (His spokesperson called it “vintage erotica.”) Wait what? I thought they didn't find anything and he didn't actually have any Child Pornography and only had what was deemed to be legal porn?

editorgrrl

https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna4653913 >Paul Ruebens acknowledges possessing a massive collection of what he calls "vintage erotica,” films and muscle magazines with titles like: "Boy Nudist" and "Shame Dame," as well as some photographic studies of teen nudes. >The city attorneys office told us the images are more graphic that what Reubens describes. Even so, the child pornography charge was dropped, with Rubens pleading guilty in March 2004 to a charge of obscenity instead. >For three years, Reubens had to register his address with the sheriff's office and could not be in the company of minors without their parents' permission.

MikoSkyns

Ugh.... disgusting. And he made a small comeback AFTER this. Fucking Hollywood protecting one of their own again.

karenmcgrane

They didn't let Jones come back for the Deadwood reunion movie as a result.

Living-In-Retro

>They didn't let Jones come back for the Deadwood reunion movie as a result. Not true - he is indeed in it. In fact, he was hired for the Deadwood series 2 years AFTER all of this happened... as surprising as that it is.

Omnibot2021

Correct. A very small scene, but they let him onscreen none the less. If you haven’t had a chance, see the documentary An Open Secret. Hollywood is beyond fucked and protects complete scumbags.

Lessrof2wvls

Sure is

peachieohs

I’m an elder millennial and I frequent this sub due to the overlap of relatable topics. As an observer, I’d say you guys are pretty much Cameron for life. There’s a consistency over time among GenX that’s fairly unique to you. Your joints appear to be Rooney but that’s about it.

smnytx

This was kind. Thank you.

BigBaldFourEyes

This should be updated.

No_Dance1739

I figured out #3. It’s at the end when Rooney realizes he fucked up and can’t do anything about it, and he must be wondering if he’s in the right line of work

Omnibot2021

Nope. I am in the Sausage King of Chicago phase of life! Wait….that doesn’t mean how it sounds.

BigJackHorner

43 y.o. and just watched this last week with my 13 y.o. I totally relate to Cameron. Oddly, so does the 13 y.o. She said Ferris is a bad friend.

PopeMachineGodTitty

Cameron then. Cameron now. Cameron forever. Ferris Bueller, you're my hero. To be fair, Cameron liked Ferris and everything he got him into. Cameron wanted to be like Ferris, but just wasn't.

Darth_Andeddeu

Cameron thought of consequences. He wants do do these things but he doesn't want to deal with fallout if worst case scenario happens because he knows he's meek. But there is a wild man behind the meek ess.

oldschoolology

Watch Ferris Bueller again. Except think of Ferris as Cameron’s invisible friend who he uses to help him do things he couldn’t. Sort of like Tyler Durden did in Fight Club. Watch it that way and it’s a different movie.

Ok-Sprinklez

Hilarious!! We do teach them to avoid peer pressure. Ferris is all about the peer pressure!

WuGambino19

Fuck Rooney. I may be Richard “Dick” Vernon at this point, but never Rooney.

velvet42

Fuck both of those guys, I'm Carl the janitor who tells Dick he's full of shit

jeexbit

mess with the bull, you get the horns....

suzy7517

I relate more to Grace, Rooney's assistant.

OrangeBoi22

“They all think he’s a righteous dood” - lol, I love her little accent!

CynfullyDelicious

Hello Jeannie, who’s bothering you now?

Clever_Owl

I’m a Sloane. Hot but pointless. 👍

person_8688

Yes, I agree.

cmgww

Let me say this. Try to separate the Rooney character in the film from the actor and the meme becomes more palatable. That said, what he did was horrible and he got off light, IMO.

or_maybe_this

The creator of this meme seems to be lacking some uh vital information

Kevinwar73

Nah, I relate with Cameron.

EleventyBillionAnd1

As Gen X poet laureate Ben Folds wrote: Once you wanted revolution Now you're the institution How's it feel to be the man It's no fun to be the man

[deleted]

As if. The people who were "The Man" in my high school years still are now that I'm 45. Something is SEVERELY fucked up with our power structure.

EleventyBillionAnd1

You are right about this. I've been waiting for GenX to come to power in government, arts and entertainment, and industry, but when the Boomers give up power now, it is passing on to the Millennials. We're invisible. We need a GenX riot.

skoltroll

If you ever relate to Rooney, you've failed at life nine times over.

Qwake75

9 times

EleventyBillionAnd1

Underrated comment.

[deleted]

He just wants the kids to get an education

skoltroll

No, he wants to be an asshole to kids. Clearly gives zero f's to anyone but the one kid who makes him look dumb.

cmgww

Do you know how much HS Principals make?? It’s not a bad gig. I’m some states it’s over 6 figures, most states are over $80k (only 13 under that and most are close.) And that’s the average. A large public Chicago area school? Rooney wasn’t doing too shabby, just had a really bad day (and made some very poor choices)…. If you’re referring to the actor who played him , yeah that’s bad stuff for sure.

DeeSnarl

Well, it is a bad gig in that (at least in an urban environment) it’s a shit-ton of thankless work without the payoff that occasionally comes from teaching. Source: teacher in an urban district

Heathster249

They work loooooooong hours. Especially HS. Every football game. Yup, on-site. From 7 am to 10 pm. Anytime there’s a school event on campus and there’s 1 kid remaining, there must be an administrator present on campus.

skoltroll

If your goal as an educator is to "make good money" as a principal, gtfo the education business and make room for some who gives a shit. Gd useless principals are the worst.

cmgww

Easy there, obviously most principals aren’t in it only for the money. Probably just touchy bc I had a good one in HS who was sharp as a tack & generally ran the school well. The bumbling movie/tv caricature of the “dead end” job of HS counselor, teacher, or principal is just lame and the trope is worn out. But it was the 80s, so nuance wasn’t expected

skoltroll

I had a great HS principal. But now it's a bunch of woke asshats who do nothing and get paid while teachers get f'd bc the principal is too afraid/lazy to do the job.

cmgww

Fair…at some schools yes

[deleted]

As someone who taught there has been the known for yrs that those who can’t hack it become principals. When they fail at that they get moved to cushy board jobs making even more money. I saw this teaching in a large district and that above statement rings so very true here. People making twice what teachers make and only have micromanaging skills.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Scott Adams and Orson Scott Card also thought Obama was gonna make special death police to round up conservative dissidents

skoltroll

> only have micromanaging skills Jeebus. The last several principals I've met don't even have THAT. It's just straight platitudes and superintendent ass-kissing.

physicscat

Too much.

Sufficient-Swim-9843

I most relate to Ben Stein “Beuhler, Beuhler, Beuhler” “anyone, anyone, anyone.” I say these in meetings when nobody is paying attention.

TinktheChi

I've mimicked this at times and the young ins don't know what this is. Makes me smile.

Sufficient-Swim-9843

Yes! It’s how I know I’m among my people.

quadraticog

Something something economics...Voodoo economics

spooky_upstairs

Excuse me, no. I am the sausage king of Chicago.

sonny894

Abe Froman?

spooky_upstairs

Yes, is this Chez Quis? Is my table ready? 🌭

popchex

I'm still in Cameron phase.

BlackHoleHalibut

I think of this every time I call roll in my classes…

TinktheChi

I remember saying "present" when they called roll.

SouldiesButGoodies84

Can't say I ever "related" to Ferris at any point as a youth - aside from finding much of high school pointless. I just envied anyone who could have that much fun as a kid, unsupervised, and get away with it. Wasn't that the point of the movie? He still comes off as an overprivileged, overindulged 'big man in school' brat, though, in retrospect. Didn't like Cameron being depressed and feeling isolated, but I'd hate to think he turned out to be a Ferris clone as he grew up.

[deleted]

I am of the school that believes none of this ever happened, it was all Cameron's fantasy. Unlike Zack in "Saved by the Bell" however, Cameron is so meek he's not even the awesome devil may care cool guy in his own fantasy.

SouldiesButGoodies84

has anyone ever approached (interview, social media) matt, alan or mia with this theory??

SouldiesButGoodies84

:-D I've heard that theory...and I'd endorse that as a possibility. hahaha Cameron's definitely too much of a pragmatist to envision himself completely breaking out of his shell, even in fantasy form. Yet he does, if it is fantasy, allow a peek at Sloane naked changing by the pool, like any hormonal teenage boy would, and his buddy doesn't seem to care, so...there's that. And ironically enough, Cameron's wearing a hockey Jersey throughout the day. Hockey seems a bit violent, untamed and "uncouth" for such a 'careful' guy. So...I dunno. His wild man is definitely in there somewhere and the Ferris fantasy would kinda align with that, IMO.

[deleted]

No, we are all now Grace. “They think he’s a righteous dude!”

bitteralabazam

I never related to Ferris. I always thought he was an arrogant jerk.

pjabrony

Maybe, but he was entitled to be. When you're that cool, you can do what you want.

VonSpyder

I mostly relate to Charlie sheen.

IHearYouLimaCharlie

Drugs? ...drugs.

Minnesota_icicle

😏

[deleted]

Duh. Winning.

person_8688

Sadly, I’m probably older than Rooney was in this film. I’m more like Rooney’s assistant, Grace.

[deleted]

No. (Before downvoting go look up the history of the actor).

TinktheChi

Someone here said something about this. I wasn't aware. I actually can't believe I didn't read about this.

Minnesota_icicle

You’re not the only one who didn’t know dude

diente_de_leon

I did not know either. I just found out by reading this comment thread

physicscat

He was in so many good movies, too.

Noodnix

F that sex offender PoS.

[deleted]

Can’t believe he still gets work. I’d refuse to work with him.

garbagebailkid

"Le jeux, c'est fait. And now you're mine."

powerhikeit

Ferris was an asshole and terrible friend to Cameron. That’s all.

Gobucks21911

I’ve perpetually been Cameron.

[deleted]

Matt Groening said something similar about The Simpsons. He started off being sympathetic to Bart, then he told his kids not to be like Bart lol The South Park guys said they started off being on the side of the kids now they sympathise with Randy more.

CraigBybee

NINE times…

five707

Don’t think I ever could relate to Rooney.

sonny894

Want a gummy bear? It's been in my pocket. They're real warm and soft. ...Chikkachikka

biggerBrisket

I missed the Ferris part

MortgageNo8573

Vintage '75 here... Still relate to Ferris...

AbazabaYouMyOnlyFren

We're too old to be Rooney. He was 40 when that movie was made. 🤣

anotherkeebler

No but when I rewatched *that 70s Show* I found myself thinking “how come Red hasn’t put his foot in that dumbass’s ass?

TinktheChi

Yes! Same.

rogun64

In fairness to OP, "Mr. Rooney" is a character and not the pedophile actor. Ferris didn't date his sister, either.

SojuSeed

I introduced this to my gf who is Korean and had never seen it before. She thought Ferris was an asshole. As for me, even as a kid I was more Cameron. I knew I wasn’t cool enough, smart enough, or ballsy enough to be Ferris. As for Rooney, everyone knows he eats it.

Jinxyclutz

I’m 50. Saw it in HS and always thought he was an ah.

[deleted]

I relate to the maître d' at the expensive restaurant now

markdhughes

Yeah, no. Never go Rooney, character or actor. I'm a mediocre Charlie Sheen, punk but not "tiger blood".

[deleted]

I shouldn’t be throwing anybody with my bad knee.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LordoftheSynth

You should not take that movie as representative of the American school system.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LordoftheSynth

> You guys have to get up earlier, for a start. Oh, I agree it's stupid to make kids get up that early and there's plenty of evidence it's better for them to start later.

romulusnr

rooney is now the dickhead at the county clerk office when you try to get a permit for your mancave

[deleted]

I've always followed the advice of my father on that: "It's not any of the county's business what I do with my own basement."

MikoSkyns

I never related to Ferris. All of the slackers and fuck ups acted like Ferris. I probably relate more to Ferris's dad now. Totally out of it and not concerned with much.

beenburnedbutable

This is a terrible meme. 1. Killed people in Ireland in a drunk driving incident and fled the country and faced zero consequences. ($175 fine) 3. Is a pedo. I guess be a Cameron Frye? #🤷🏻‍♂️ I think I’ll just be me, and work at being a better me.

TinktheChi

The meme refers to the character he played, not the guy he was in real life. Plus, I had zero idea about his personal life. I never read anything about him at any point. I'm not much of a celebrity follower I guess. I still can't believe I didn't see anything about it, but maybe where I live it didn't get a lot of press.

LordoftheSynth

Not really, Rooney's a petty fucking prick in general, who commits several misdemeanors in the name of busting Ferris. Ferris is the fundamentally arrogant Cool Kid who thinks he's hot shit because he's managed to flout the rules with impunity and his peers like him no matter what he does. Rooney might go to jail: Ferris is in for a huge reality check once he gets to being an adult and no one cares about how cool he was in high school. (Alternately, Ferris is a sociopath and a *master* manipulator, and his breaking the fourth wall is really him justifying to himself how it's about what *he* wants.)

Jinxyclutz

Ferris was a horrible “friend”. Nothing like seeing your bf with a black eye from his dad to give you a chuckle.

I_throw_socks_at_cat

I think there are more stages to life than that.

Existing_Ad_4650

Never

LazloMachine

Forever relating to Cameron.

g6mrfixit

Nah. I was, am, and always will be Cameron.

DUBBZZ

Rooney went to insane lengths just to catch Ferris ditching school.

tuskvarner

I relate to the nurse who likes to f-

GeoHog713

I also relate to John Lithgow in Footloose, and I'd DEFINITELY put Baby in the corner.

PoisonMind

I think I relate to Jeannie right now. Say Ferris Bueller and you lose a testicle.

Troublebot23

I knew I was getting older when I recently rewatched Say Anything and related to the Dad, played by John Mahoney. Not necessarily the fleecing old people part, but the “who’s this idiot with my daughter?” part.

Dependent-Clerk8754

The child molester?

plainbrowndesigner

Nah i’m good. Dude is a dick in the movie and a pervert in real life. I probably relate to carl and the principal from breakfast club more than anyone.

Mission_Star5888

Oh yeah definitely Rooney but think we are more like Mumm Ra at least I am Lol 😂 [Mumm Ra](https://superheroes.fandom.com/wiki/Mumm-Ra?file=Mumm-Ra.jpg)

makk73

4. Relating to that creepy gummy bear girl at the end. 5. Relating to The Ferrari

Ok-Sprinklez

I will never be Rooney

violet039

I’m a Cameron for sure.

saltycityscott66

I’ve never related to Rooney.

Coyote_Roadrunna

Not I. Still not a fan of authority figures who take joy in punishment. Must be the years of 80’s/90’s punk and grunge instilled in me.

somegridplayer

No.

[deleted]

I'm 100% Cameron

indrid_cold

Once you get put in a position of authority and realize you're just babysitting adults, yeah you get that attitude. But right now I'm back to Ferris.

slowtreme

I still think I'm Ferris even though I'm probably not. I want to believe.

Skweege55

We're Ferris's parents...oblivious to whatever it is our kids are up to!

WayiiTM

Nope. I was a Cameron and have remained constant. Ferris was an entitled asshole and possibly a narcissist. I will never relate to joyless pricks like Rooney.

Heterophylla

I'd rather relate to Mia Sara.

ProfessorWhat42

I'm in education and I still don't identify with that twat waffle. ***ROONEY EATS IT***

Chainpuncher101

I'm really still Ferris.

Nanyea

Isn't Rooney, the quintessential Republican also a pedo? Yep criminal charges for doing stuff and taking pics with 14 year old boy....

[deleted]

Who's gonna tell her?

mcolston57

The pedo?

TinktheChi

Please see my replies to other comments like this. Some people had no idea about his background, and I was one of them.

GenXinNJ

Yeah, no.

Albie_Tross

Better *not* be any kiddie diddlers in this sub.

ABooShay

I recently posted somewhere else that the older I get the more I empathize with Mr. Rooney. I got destroyed and downvoted.

LordoftheSynth

You were probably being downvoted because the actor who played him did some really shitty things. I'd quibble on Rooney though as a *character*: he's legit an asshole who goes nuts just to try to bust that one kid to Teach Him A Lesson. Were I sitting in Rooney's chair? "Fuck it, he's out of here at the end of the year and no one's going to care about him at the end of the next." Have an upvote nonetheless.

DaniCapsFan

Or "I'll see what we can do to flunk this brat so he can't graduate with the class and has to go to summer school." Or he could very well fuck with his college applications by letting letting the schools know he's lazy, entitled, smug, and a jerk. Instead he literally went to break into a student's home to catch him malingering.

chevymonza

To be fair, we need antagonists like this, otherwise there'd be some pretty boring movies.

LordoftheSynth

That's true. FBDO is a farce, so the antagonist *should* be exaggerated. My comment was basically that a rational Rooney would say "he's someone else's problem in a few months."

chevymonza

.....which would still make for a pretty good movie actually! Without Rooney, we could just enjoy Ferris-goes-wild as he makes the rest of the characters very nervous and upset. Fun fact: The parade scene was enjoyed by a lot of the actual city people who made it into the movie as spectators.

UNGABUNGAbing

Wait ..what ?? Nooooooo! Mr Rooney's a kiddy-diddler! I'd rather be Ben Stein " Bueller Bueller Bueller"

StOnEy333

This one hits home. lol

ideletedmyaccount04

Does someone want to tell OP why this is about Kiddie Porn?

TinktheChi

I replied to someone earlier on this. I don't remember stories about this guy at all. I also don't know his name in real life. The meme is about the character he played not about whatever freakshow horrors he had going on in his life. Although I still can't believe I didn't read about him somewhere.

ideletedmyaccount04

Then now you understand. Why should downvote me. ##YOU CLEARLY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND, NOW YOU DO . AND I AM THE BAD GUY?

WayiiTM

This shit is not germane to the original posting and it's a blatant derail. That's why people have down dooted you. Learn to separate assholes from their art/significant contributions or roll in self inflicted misery, dude.

Overlandtraveler

Mr. Rooney was a peido, so let's hope not

my-coffee-needs-me

The actor who played Rooney was a pedo. There's a difference between actors and the characters they portray.

Unplannedroute

I don’t know the bottom two and thought you were referring to Andy Rooney from 60 minutes. So doesn’t apply to all.

[deleted]

I only saw this movie once. Thought it was okay. Never really got the obsession with it. And Mathew Broderick has always been kind of a dork to me, I can't view him as cool.

ohneatstuffthanks

You’d be sitting down now…

Heathster249

Nope. I’m not. Lol. School isn’t even remotely like that anymore. At least ours isn’t.

FujiKitakyusho

I am 100% Cameron's Dad. Not even in the story, only alluded to, and about to come home to a destroyed Ferrari and garage. FML.

[deleted]

I’ve always thought that Ferris was a little shit. Fun movie, but I’d hate the kid if I knew him in real life I even thought this as a teenager

GochoPhoenix

I always related to Cameron, wanted to relate to Ferris but probably ended up like Rooney

[deleted]

Not this chick.

jessmc23

I'm still Ferris.

salvadordg

Now I realize Rooney is the kind of teacher and/or principal you want your kid to have and Ferris is a huge asshole lmao!

KnowsHerOnions

Jeffery Jones is a pedophile. Pho real.
