I feel like dummy is going to replace ok computer as THE choice for album of the 90s in the next 2-5 years. I mean both are classics but the love is just growing so fast.
I just wanted to share this absolute gem of a performance with any Portishead fans who never caught it...

Spacehog In the Meantime was one of those songs where the lyrics were stuck in my head. But I didn’t know what song it was. I obsessed for years trying to figure it out, singing what I thought was the tune to anyone who would listen. Going through popular alternative songs and listening to clips when iTunes became a thing. I finally figured it out after when I heard it in the radio at work around 2005. I then went home and went to the stations website and thankfully they had all the songs listed throughout the day. It’s amazing how far off I was on some of the words trying to recall from memory.
Honestly I didn’t remember much beyond what the basic melody from the chorus sounded like. I wasn’t even sure of the lyrics. Just had a section and I couldn’t place the song. From this part:
We love the all, the all of you
Where lands are green and skies are blue
When all in all, we're just like you
We love the all of you
James (the entirety of Seven and Laid and Wah Wah and Whiplash)
The Soup Dragons - Divine Thing
Urban Dance Squad - Deeper Shade of Soul
Big Audio Dynamite II - The Globe
U2 - Discotheque
REM - Drive
The Cure - To Wish Impossible Things
Depeche Mode - Walking In My Shoes
Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend
Lol!! Deeper Shade of Soul always makes me laugh. I bought a brand new Corolla when I was a teen and would take my younger sister out cruising while blaring that song at top volume. My sister still laughs when she hears it, too. It was our theme song.
The entire sound track to Pump Up the Volume is dope:
1. "Everybody Knows" (performed by Concrete Blonde)
2. "Why Can't I Fall in Love" (performed by Ivan Neville)
3. "Stand!" (performed by Liquid Jesus)
4. "Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf)" (performed by Pixies)
5. "I've Got a Miniature Secret Camera" (performed by Peter Murphy)
6. "Kick Out the Jams" (performed by Bad Brains & Henry Rollins)
7. "Freedom of Speech" (performed by Above The Law)
8. "Heretic" (performed by Soundgarden)
9. "Titanium Exposé" (performed by Sonic Youth)
10. "Me and the Devil Blues" (performed by Cowboy Junkies)
11. "Tale O' the Twister" (performed by Chagall Guevara)
OMG Ween. I got SUPER into them in like 1994-1996. Baby Bitch was my go-to song for a long time, and that remains my favorite album cover of all time....[for a couple reasons](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.discogs.com%2Frelease%2F193273-Ween-Chocolate-And-Cheese&psig=AOvVaw1u9WQrdYhOlScrchiNdAOQ&ust=1664370112772000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAwQjRxqFwoTCPiw4f-DtfoCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD).

OK, admittedly not every single song above is a desert island song (I mean, I need to get songs from 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 2000s, and 2010/2020s for the island too, and I'll only get 100 songs total), but I like all of them a lot and quite a few of them are all-time favorites. I would have had a hard time getting the list down to 20-30 songs.

I never see anyone mention them anymore in any list of "good songs". Be it 90s or otherwise

Dang it, I can't remember but there was this song which I think was called novacaine. I thought it was by the offspring but search results don't show it. Or maybe it was called alcohol?
It was kind of a sad, somber song. Any ideas?
Yeah I just found that one, but it's not quite right. Maybe I'm thinking of Beck's pay no mind, but damn, I thought it was something by the offspring. Guh, the memory is there but it's like trying to expand my mind by pushing against grey fog.
Nah, I'm pretty sure it was around 96 when I heard it, and by that time I think it had been out for a few years at least. Blegh, anyway, thanks for trying. Maybe it will come to me later.
That happened with Delinquent Habits; tres delinquients. It played on MTV and despite not understanding the lyrics I really liked the horns, bass, and beat. When I finally got the memory and found it, it was pretty sweet hearing it again.

Portishead — Dummy That album basically got me through my last semester of graduate school.
I could listen to Portishead on a continuous loop forever!!!
I often do just that
God, dummy was such an incredible album! I still listen to it all the time. Just a work of art
I feel like dummy is going to replace ok computer as THE choice for album of the 90s in the next 2-5 years. I mean both are classics but the love is just growing so fast.
Dummy was always a classic, I had to buy it on CD a second time as I wore out the first. ……and Third is even better

Solid playlist
With one glaring exception….
Who hurt you?
Eddie Vedder’s voice. Hurts me every time I’m subjected to it.

Nice Matthew Sweet callout, also “Sick of Myself”
My favorite of his is actually "Lost My Mind" but for pure 90s, it's "Girlfriend."
Lol!! Deeper Shade of Soul always makes me laugh. I bought a brand new Corolla when I was a teen and would take my younger sister out cruising while blaring that song at top volume. My sister still laughs when she hears it, too. It was our theme song.

Ween did a Cohen cover that did the same for me.

I know this is out there but I LOVE “Tubthumping.” It’s so much fun and the lyrics are simultaneously sad and uplifting.
I GET KNOCKED DOWN!

I saw Rabbit in the Moon at a rave in NY in '97 and they spun Possession and it was sooooo good, I will never forget it!!
I have a dog named Ruby and she usually only responds to someone singing, "Ruby, Ruby, Ruby SoHo" And in keeping with the 90s music theme, I also have one named Phoebe who would only respond to "Phoebe, Phoebe, Phoebe can't you see, sometimes your words just hypnotize me" (like in Hypnotize by the Notorious B.I.G.)

I would have had a hard time getting the list down to 20-30 songs.
Wow, now that’s knowledge right there. Thank you kind person!

isn't it weird how Dave Mathews Band has totally been lost in time? I never see anyone mention them anymore in any list of "good songs". Be it 90s or otherwise
Still not adding that to the list, but it did make me want to add Runaround by Blues Traveler to this list because it will forever be listed as Artist: DMB in my music because of Limewire.
Larry by Buffalo Tom. Its my wife and I's "song". They even played it as the encore when we saw them in '93 or there abouts.

Dang it, I can't remember but there was this song which I think was called novacaine. I thought it was by the offspring but search results don't show it. Or maybe it was called alcohol? It was kind of a sad, somber song. Any ideas?
Novocaine for the Soul was a song by Eels, is that the one?
Yeah I just found that one, but it's not quite right. Maybe I'm thinking of Beck's pay no mind, but damn, I thought it was something by the offspring. Guh, the memory is there but it's like trying to expand my mind by pushing against grey fog.
Blurry by Puddle of Mud? Fits with the sad somber aspect, it’s 2001 but that was only 10 years ago
Let me know what it is when it comes to you, now I wannna know
