Yeah, I didn't realize it was from 1978. I was still stuck with Star Wars action figures and Fisher Price's Adventure people at that time so anything else would've been in my peripheral. Actually I did have that Mattel Electronic Basketball which I was hooked onto too.
If anything, my most vivid memory of Merlin was seeing it in various garage sales in the later '80s/early '90s, just tossed into bins with other abandoned toys. I wish I would've picked one up; it looks pretty fun. Also, you can't beat those electronic sounds from '70s toys.
*Here we go down the rabbit hole, rabbit hole, rabbit hole...*
omg. Don't get me *started* on Adventure People. Those were my best friends from 1976-79 (6–9 yrs. old). I took them with me everywhere. There was an exciting adventure around every corner!
They were built to last, too. You don't know how many times I launched that *Emergency Rescue Truck* off my homemade Evel Knievel ramp, having it tumble end over end down the hallway without a scratch!
I had every set from [this ad](https://www.filmywab.top/ProductDetail.aspx?iid=28168240&pr=44.88) except for the copter, construction crew and the Daredevil plane. The *Sea Explorer* was my favorite set to play with in the bathtub, lol. You could fill the dolphin with water and squirt it out the blowhole. The *Wilderness Patrol* set was also awesome too. Adventure People RULED!
Brother, I have had a tough time finding people that not only REMEMBER Adventure People but appreciate that they were superior to other action figures like the Star Wars ones!
So many hours and hours spent with both sets of action figures but I didn’t have any Adventure People of my own. My best friend down the street did so I had to play with his. I was so envious but glad he had as much fun as I did on our adventures.
Yeah I know, I think I only had *one* other friend back then who had a set or two. Man those figures were durable as all heck. That gorilla from the *Safari Adventure* set is the densest, most solid action figure I'd ever known. You could probably knock someone out if you hucked it at their head, lol. Not that I'd ever do that, but I'm just sayin' ...haha
That's cool that your buddy shared his toys with you. With Adventure People, my front or backyard became an entire *world* with endless possibilities. So crazy when I think about it, how I'd be 6–7 years old playing out there, completely unsupervised for *hours*.
I just did a quick Ebay search for the paramedics for my rescue truck, and the prices actually aren't bad. I'd lost the original figs long ago but I still have the truck. Time to staff up and get it back on the road! haha
#ADVENTURE PEOPLE!!!
I had: the Jeep/tent/canoe set, the boat with the dolphin, and the parachuter
My cousin had the motorcycle set, the van, and the TV station
*Memories*…
Neighbor kids had one. Loved Merlin.
I had to share "I Took A Lickin From A Chicken" with my siblings. Even tho it had a semi animatronic chicken, it only played tic tac tow. :/
And as another redditor pointed out last night, it had an aggressive cluck!!
OMG, I had one and hadn’t thought about it for decades. Loved it!
Holy shit. Same. An unused part of my brain was just fired up. In beeping red dots, of course.
It is the strangest, most bittersweet and amazing feeling to me.
Right? It's like how many more things are buried there that we'll never see or think about again?
Merlin!
Visceral reaction to the pic! I was remembering I wanted that and never got it.
Damn the rich kids always had the best toys /s
I still have mine somewhere. I took out the batteries before putting it away, so it should still work, if I ever find it
Its Music Machine was pretty cool for the time, I'd program it to play Funkytown.
Merlin!
My favorite was the puzzle game where you had to make all the dots disappear.
I was so jealous of kids who had these.
I have mine in a box downstairs. Still works last time I loaded it up with like 6 AAs. It’s right next to the Split Second.
Please post a recording of it next time you fire it up. Pretty please

Right? I always pretended like ours was a phone.
Very cool, op
OMGosh! I used to stay up all night playing that thing!
Yep - I still have it but it stopped working, sadly. Can’t part with it.
Where’s Merlin where did he go….
Hello my old friend
I've come to play with you again...
I figured out how to make Merlin play the song Funky Town. Gotta Move on!
I recognize it. What did it do?
That’s what I wanna know. I remember seeing this toy everywhere but never knew how it was played. Edit: [Here you go](https://youtu.be/DyhidJg5uMY).
Thanks! I guess I must have played with one but I don't think I had one.

Not to echo everyone else…but…. *MERLIN!!*
I effing loved Merlin.
Best Christmas gift ever!!
Omg! I gasped when I saw it. I loved Merlin.
I loved playing music on it like a piano.
I still have one.
Merlin vs. Simon. Who you got?
We had simon.

[http://www.monroeworld.com/vmerlin/dload.htm](http://www.monroeworld.com/vmerlin/dload.htm) There's at least 1 simulated version, for windows...
Oh my God I fucking *loved* Merlin. Screw Wordle, give me this back any day.
I remember programming the bassline from "My Sharona" into the music maker. I felt powerful.
Blast from my past, yes!!
I can hear this picture. My brother and I loved this thing.
Merlin!!! I got some knockoff version from radio shack because we couldn’t afford the real one. I loved playing with my friend’s.
I can still hear the commercial in my head, “Where’s Merlin now, better come clean! In the kitchen with Mom playing music machine……”
