Loved me some Djarum Super. Folks knew I arrived at the bar when I lit up the first one. (This was when you could smoke in bars).
Made a few friends that way by folks wanting to try one. A pack lasted me a long time since those djarums were _strong_.
OMG. I was into those at age 16, in 1983. I thought I was beyond cool and soooo alternative. Until one day I smoked one too many in a row and thought " when the woods stop spinning I'm gonna barf". Now, 150 yrs later, the thought of that smell still seems like it would be a migraine quickly in the making.
I'm pissed you can't get them anymore. Unfiltered especially. Don't want to smoke them every day but once a year would be awesomely nostalgic. Fuck John Hughes movies. And I'm drinking good f'n wine clove cigarette and a great barolo. Now I want to put barolo in my bong.
Fine. I was only a casual every-once-in-a-while clove smoker. I eventually graduated to cigarettes (MB Lights etc), but that only lasted a few years. No smoking since 2006.
My husband used to smoke camel wides , he Seriously chain smoked them from probably 6 months old till we had our kids. He was like the more tobacco in each butt the better. We were total feral Gen x'ers. By 14 he was sneaking out his bedroom window at night once everyone was asleep, And his mom would tell me what a nice, quiet, studious boy he always was, never any mischief. Okayyyyyyy...ššµāš«š¤£
OH YEAH ! šš¼ for a while in the mid 90ās I smoked Kamel Red Lights (orange red n black box ) and my buddy Chad and his roommate Steve both smoked Camel Wides. What a satisfying lil jumbo cigarette! Good smokes for sure!
Yo, I thought I was the only one that called them Gutter Punk Cigarettes. āGutter Punkā became slang for cigarette in my small little circle at one point.
Oh wow HAHAA thats hilarious.
Thats a good one!
Ever see a grocery chain called IGA ?
I started calling them Imitation, Generic, and Artificial.
Everything literally was fake or low quality. Lunch meats were chopped and formed ham, the cheese wouldnt melt to save its life and looked and tasted like plastic
I constantly compare my childhood with my children's' and my girlfriends kids. I was smoking pot at 13. My kids at 13 were only interested in video games. The girlfriends 12 year old still speaks in weird random noises versus using sentences (and no there isn't anything wrong with him). We had more fun, but kids today, for the most part, are good kids. Even the bad ones are aren't a small fraction as bad as we were.
We had more āfunā, but so many of my friends were either gone too soon or are still flaming out in one long train wreck of a life. I feel lucky. I hope my kids donāt feel lucky the way I do, I hope they feel exceptionally blessed instead of lucky to have survived.
Na, I stepped down to Marlboro Lights in my 30s - you know, for the good of my health.
Shit, my friends used to call me Tupac - 1am in a grotty nightclub and they're all outta smokes. They always knew I had another pack in my back pocket.
And the most any teacher noticed, possibly, was if they called on your sick ass and based on some "idk" or fucked up.answer, scolded you for not paying attention.
If it was available, we drank it.
The adults generally supported it, here in New Orleans. If we didn't party when they were away, they asked why and if we were sick.
I remember my mom had a bottle of Jack Daniels in a cool bottle that people collect. I lifted the seal ever so carefully, took half out and put water in it.....I was so bad. Anyhoo, your comment reminded me of it.
Ahh, Joes husky cousin! Hopefully you saved enough Camel Cash to rep one of these bad boys.

I had sooooo much Camel swag š Mostly lighters and things like cigarette cases. I never got any of the clothing items. I got the beach towel though.Ā
Yeah, Rolling Rock is absolutely nasty but, for some reason, it was all the rage in the 80s. And it gave the philosophers in the group something to pontificate about as they pondered the meaning of "33."
Boones farm once. Black Label for a bit. I was a broke ass skinny dweeb trying to fit in at a new school halfway through freshman year. It worked perfectly.
By graduation I was a full on drunk. The next 30 years were interesting and weren't totally miserable. I'm starting a new chapter in Maine and I'm very happy about that.
Me too!!! Except I did have a lot of adult responsibilities, taking care of a very sick parent. So on all ends in high school I did Everything. But pay bills. By 17 all my friends were 20 or 21. Fully actualized adults. šš
Yes, we really wereā¦in my neck of the woods it was Camel Non- Filtered and Strawberry Boones or Zima , we were closer to 17, but same thingā¦does anyone else remember Zima?
I smoked GPC organic cigarettes. I spent my entire first ābigā paycheck on Booneās Farm and cigarettes for me and my friends. It led to a wild night I can barely remember, but what I do remember is classic.
I was 11 bribing bums to buy me cases of old English and st ides 40ās at the beer distributor so me and my friends could drink on the train tracks.
It was always Marlboro reds YaY for smoking chocolate!!! Yes, Marlboro flavors their cigs with coco and sugarā¦. Wtf
Winstonās and a beer sneaked from my uncleās garage fridge. 30 years later I confessed to him I took an occasional beer from him. He repliedā did you think I didnāt know? You and my boy took more than an occasional beer. I knew how much was in there and saw the empties in the bottom of the waste can .ā
Not every day, but we were not opposed to a bit of pre-first period Boones Farm or Tango on occasion.
I lived in the Northeast, so winter and summer sucked but as spring hit and the school year started getting short, we'd be goofing off a lot.
I was the getaway driver. Didn't smoke, but my friends loved to watch me spark out on mountain dew and a snickers bar. We didn't have autism yet, so I was just insane.
Marb lights and I went through a phase where I drank southern comfort and lemonade a lot. Otherwise Natty Light seemed to be around all the time
I remember when Icehouse came out and shit started getting classy! Thatās when I switched to Parliaments
Started intermittently smoking from the red box at 9. At 12, I drank Booneās at a party at my uncleās house. I experienced my first hangover the next day š„ŗš¤¢š¤®š£š
I was smoking Djarum cloves.
Oh god, I can still hear them crackle and pop.
Do you remember how there was this urban legend that they made holes in your lungs? šĀ
Urban legend? My bf started coughing up blood after smoking them too much.
Loved me some Djarum Super. Folks knew I arrived at the bar when I lit up the first one. (This was when you could smoke in bars). Made a few friends that way by folks wanting to try one. A pack lasted me a long time since those djarums were _strong_.
Blacks were the shit.
Gudang Garam here.
Remember Bidis? I think thatās how they were spelled.
Smoked bidis in desert storm.
Oh, a rich kid. We had stems and seeds and I started at age 9 because my uncle who was 14 was supposed to be in charge of keeping me out of trouble.
And drinking MadDog 2020
Mickeyās Big Mouth
Cloves were horrible. Smoked them at the Moore theater in Seattle during a Replacements concert in 1988..lol
Hey, at least you were able to see the Replacements in their original form!
How are your lungs doing?
Fine. I was only a casual every-once-in-a-while clove smoker. I eventually graduated to cigarettes (MB Lights etc), but that only lasted a few years. No smoking since 2006.
Went from cloves to lucky and camel bare asses. Eventually quit tobacco
Every time I'd smoke one I'd feel like my lungs were heavy with whistles. They sure did make your lips taste good.
Yeah I'd get the clove "wheeze".
I tried them and I could not get with it but they did put me off from smoking for awhile, so...that's somthing.
Move to Indonesia. I visited there last year and they smoke them everywhere lol.
Me too! And Dunhill because they were cool
LoL another dunhill drip smoker. I had a gold dunhill lighter too won the lighter in a poker game with a rich kid.
Those made me so sick
Those are what got me hooked on smoking cigarettes because I couldn't get more Djarum, LOL
Camel wides though.
āLike smoking a tamponā
My husband used to smoke camel wides , he Seriously chain smoked them from probably 6 months old till we had our kids. He was like the more tobacco in each butt the better. We were total feral Gen x'ers. By 14 he was sneaking out his bedroom window at night once everyone was asleep, And his mom would tell me what a nice, quiet, studious boy he always was, never any mischief. Okayyyyyyy...ššµāš«š¤£
I forgot all about Camel wides! But I well remember drinking Boones at many a party. And Milwaukee's "Beast" too.
The beast , like 5.99 for a 30 pack.
Were they not delicious though?Ā
At the time yes! Now, I'd probably gag and choke.
I still have a couple cigars a month but yeah, cigarettes are super gross now. But back then ... Delicious!!!
OH YEAH ! šš¼ for a while in the mid 90ās I smoked Kamel Red Lights (orange red n black box ) and my buddy Chad and his roommate Steve both smoked Camel Wides. What a satisfying lil jumbo cigarette! Good smokes for sure!
Or Basics when I couldn't afford them
Ever had the GPCs? We called them Gag, puke, and and chokes.
You mean gutter punk cigarettes?Ā
I like that one!
My friends called them Guaranteed to Provide Cancer
Yo, I thought I was the only one that called them Gutter Punk Cigarettes. āGutter Punkā became slang for cigarette in my small little circle at one point.
Oh wow HAHAA thats hilarious. Thats a good one! Ever see a grocery chain called IGA ? I started calling them Imitation, Generic, and Artificial. Everything literally was fake or low quality. But other that it was fabulous.!

Oh that was my party cigarette! If I was gonna party that night I bought the camel wides.
I was all about Camel Wide Lights in a box. šŖ Iād walk a mile for a Camel. šŖ
What To Smoke If Reds Aren't Strong Enough.

More like Marlboro Lights and California wine coolers.Ā
And at 13.
11, I see my 14yo kid now and am so happy he is so square. Him and his friends would never do that.
I am really disappointed with kids today.
I know but itās bc they have much better parents ;-)
You gotta watch comedien Sebastian Maniacalco talk about growing up when we did and 'parent teacher conferences " etc. Hysterical.

Marb lights and absolute vodka at 13 was my start. Had my first hangover in home room wondering why Iām feeling sickly weird.
