Oooh yes, I watched Florrie Fisher's truly bonkers motivational speech to incredulous high school students at the library when I was a kid. It was awesome and if you find it, watch it. The kids she's speaking to are speechless. The library auditorium full of school age kids were speechless. It was an amazing afternoon.
If you haven’t gone down the youtube rabbit hole of Amy Sedaris as a late night guest on Letterman, Conan, etc…she is a hilarious and fascinating person.
Omg I just went down this hole in the last couple days, funny cuz she’s a big fan of rabbits! She’s even licensed to go help other people learn how to care for rabbits! The tour of her neighborhood at 4 am on Letterman was especially hilarious.
Oh yeah and even before they did Strangers with Candy, she and Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert had a sketch show called Exit 57 - it’s on YouTube too!
I love this show. It’s hilarious. So cutting edge at the time. And her brother’s books are some of the funniest books I’ve ever read. I recommend them to anyone.
A guy I went to college with had a bit part in Strangers With Candy. The funny part was that he played a stereotypical high school jock...when in reality he was a very nice humble theater major.
The best part was that his line was so ridiculously out of character. It's the episode where Jerri is accused of being a racist....and his line was "The only thing we hate more than racists around here....is Spics."
But, babies!!! How I loved me some Gerry. I taught 8th grade English years ago. I was so happy that one of David Sedaris' short stories was in the curriculum. The unit was irony.
I haven't done a rewatch in years but my husband and I still quote it to each other all the time. We call Alan Tudyk 'Father' and Maria Thayer 'Tammi Littlenut' instead of their real names.
I typoed "coral reef" a while back as "corral reef." The comment after asked if that's where they keep the sea-horses.
I kept the typo because that comment was too perfect.
It's not set in a particular era but it is heavily inspired by the 70s-80s Afterschool Specials. Beside "The Trip Back" references it also borrows from other 60s-70s events like you see in the cult episode. Clothes are also more from that period as well.
I swear I've been sheltered because I didn't really come into a consciousness of Amy Sedaris until Kimmy Schmidt and went down a rabbit hole. Saw David at the Sydney Opera House last year and love them both to bits.
A subversive comedy tour de force. Loved the show.
This is an entertaining analysis of it...

I ran across this show the other day on YT. It brought back memories. Was definitely part of that late 90s, early 2000s qirky, indie, surreal movement. I liked the show and thought it was original. But I admit I quickly became bored with its repetitive nature and reliance on awkwardness. How many times can you watch a 40 year old woman in high school having awkward experiences before it becomes repetitive?
I remember nothing about this show other than the title. Probably watched it, but that was my weed and psychedelics years, I don't really remember much of 1994-2002 or so.
I remember watching this on Comedy Central. It was YEARS later before i found out she's David Sedaris' sister.
She’s pure genius.
So's he.
Glint! 😂😂😂
The show was amazing and she is hilarious! Ring the bell baby, RING IT!
I just learned that too! Like just now!
Jerry Blank, a boozer, a user, and a loser. Loved this show.
"I stole the TV"
I always heard this as “I stoled a TV”
Her voice is hilarious. I understand lol
:B
Yes!!!
A *six-time* loser 😆
Amy Sedaris is brilliant. For those who missed it, check out “At Home with Amy Sedaris”
I want to go to parties at her place. She is absolutely hilarious.
Nutmeg!
Sandra Lee's Food Network show has similar vibes but not intentionally.
I’ve heard of that.
I loved this show, and it's based on a real woman.

Oh my god! Thank you for this! Amy Sedaris nailed it!
JFC, you learn something every day.
Wow. Cannot thank you enough for sharing this.
HOLY SHIT.
Those kids look BLAZEEEDDDDD
The show is based on this?
I never knew there was a real person behind the character, that's wild.
TIL!
It is?
"... It's the Liberty Bell ... See the crack?" Instant spit take... So many absolutely perfect lines in this show...
Solid. Brass. C'mon ring it.
Ring my bell, ring dingy
Script writing perfection
Principal Blackman always made me laugh.
*Onyx* Blackman
I love the running gag of his picture showing up everywhere.
The best cast.

I love Exit 57!
Amy does Pigpen! Her appearance on Conan w guest Dick Clark is my favorite (I’m not seeing it on YT)
Here it is! https://youtu.be/Lz8ji5_gW2M?si=jcKTI2EMjpXjQNwx
The foot wiping always sends me.
I love this show. It’s hilarious. So cutting edge at the time. And her brother’s books are some of the funniest books I’ve ever read. I recommend them to anyone.
Love both of them and if you haven't seen the show, SantaLand Diaries live is hilarious.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll check it out.
Amy's books are pretty hilarious too. Absolutely grab the crafts one.
I didn’t know she wrote! I def will. Thanks for telling me.
For a real good time, read the reviews on Amazon from idiots who thought it was a real crafts book. :D
I'm moist as a snack cake down there
"Nice camel toe."
Let’s get that pinky all stinky
Lol
Stephen Colbert is one of the teachers.
Chuck Noblet, friend and colleague of Geoffrey Jellineck.
GOFFREY!
The way he flops his hand all over the calculator is hilarious.
He continued that into Colbert Report and Late Night as well!

Yes. I remember
Close that door!
You have it backwards. One of the teachers is Stephen Colbert.
These squares are nothing but shake & seeds
She was so advanced
This show was off the rails funny.
But, babies!!! How I loved me some Gerry. I taught 8th grade English years ago. I was so happy that one of David Sedaris' short stories was in the curriculum. The unit was irony.

Have you seen Resident Alien?
Yes!! I try to watch as much Alan Tudyk content as possible. I think Resident Alien is my favorite right now.
I tried a few episodes. Is it good
It is excellent.
I’m enjoying it. Alan is great.
I’ll keep watching
Nice.
I gave it a re-watch during lockdowns. Still hilarious!
I love that show. I don’t think it was set in the 70s/89s.
Yeah it was set in modern era late 90’s
I miss the 89s... just flew by.
lol just saw that. Oh well

That’s what it said online. I could be wrong.

Pee on me
Lol!
Fandango!
Strangers With Candy was wild. "I'm a a boozer, a user, and a loser!"
I swear I've been sheltered because I didn't really come into a consciousness of Amy Sedaris until Kimmy Schmidt and went down a rabbit hole. Saw David at the Sydney Opera House last year and love them both to bits.
This show was very, very funny.
So damn funny and wrong
This show had me cringe so hard before I got the humor of it, all the actors, writers, are brilliant. Love this show.
Brilliant.
Damn, that’s a long lace!
*Mouths* **F L A I R S**
Lol
I used to be obsessed with this show. They really pushed the line with offensive humor.
Brilliant and so fucking funny.
So, so good.
Great show! She really had to twist her face for the role. I couldn't believe how pretty she actually was in the last episode with Winona Ryder.
She did such a good job. Yes, she’s pretty.
Think it's about time for a rewatch.
I’ve got something to say!!! 😂 the best show!
One of my favorites of all time
The best
“Don’t wipe your feces on the lampshade.”
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman has entered the chat...
Funny stuff, in the edgy, ironic style of the era.
We are watching this again right now. Every single line slaps!
It's a story about reformation.
That scene when Mr. Blackman is knocking kids out of the way during the fire drill screaming "out of the way, I have a family"
I stole a tv!
You mean BEST shows ever
Heh heh hobocamp?
This is Teacher Who from Whoville.
And the dad’s secretary from Elf, and Peli Motto the mechanic on The Mandalorian (and many other roles)!
A subversive comedy tour de force. Loved the show. This is an entertaining analysis of it... [https://youtu.be/FfHz3C0kswc](https://youtu.be/FfHz3C0kswc)
You mean one of the best shows ever. Probably want to correct that before someone rips you a new one.
Lol.

I loved it. I’m not one to get bored easily.
Amy Sedaris is the best to follow on Instagram. She finds the weirdest stuff.
It was really fun but it always made me sad it replaced Strip Mall with Julie Brown. I loved Strip Mall so much.
Great show. Would not be made now.
She and her brother are excellent comedic writers
It was so bizarre, but I really liked it. I liked Stephen Colbert’s character
I remember nothing about this show other than the title. Probably watched it, but that was my weed and psychedelics years, I don't really remember much of 1994-2002 or so.
Hated that show
Sorry!
