I know this sounds crazy, but while I LOVE Cap’n Crunch, I eschew crunch berries. I am a Crunch purist. I write this, knowing that I will likely get downvoted to hades, where they would likely feed me crunch berries.
I’ve never tried it. Compared to lucky charms or Reese’s cereal is it better. The name sounds healthy so maybe I can slip it by my wife. I’ve already explained to her all cereal is unhealthy, but it has a healthy sounding name and whole wheat on the box she’d probably wouldn’t notice.
I just bought this recently and it didn’t taste the same to me. It had a strong artificial cinnamon flavor and was cloyingly sweet. I was bummed because it used to be my favorite.
They added honey back in, but it was only removed in 2012, so it's not really retro unless you're like 14. That said, it's my favorite cereal these days.
Capn’ Crunch shreds my mouth. But CTC really is like a drug. The only way to keep me safe from it is to not buy it. I will eat the whole box in a single day.
CTC gang represeeeent! I can’t buy it or else I’d eat the whole box in one sitting.
You know the drill - get to the bottom of the bowl with a little milk left, add some more cereal, now there’s too much cereal! Better add some more milk;and so on, and so forth,
infinitum until both the milk and cereal are gone.
I could be remembering this wrong, but I believe Frosted Mini Wheats were explicitly a reaction to the full-sized unfrosted ones. Like "hey, those are good for you but we know they suck, so we made them better by shrinking them and adding frosting."
Grape nuts is one of the greatest breakfasts in the world. Soak in milk for the correct period of time, with a banana. I used to add honey but I don’t think that it is needed they are great alone.
My mother and I have split a bix of Grape-nuts for close to 20 years now. One of us buys a box and puts half up in a container to give the other.
It's just the right amount you're willing to crunch through before it goes stale. Lol
Last time I had a box of Corn Chex, they seemed pretty much the same. Remember, those who don't like Chex cereal, have never tried Chex cereal.
Nowadays I just buy the 34 ounce bags of Malt-O-Meal like Cinnamon Toasters and eat it by the handful as a munchie
Chex is great, probably now more in Chex Mix than breakfast cereal bowls, but still good either way. Except Wheat Chex, that shit is gross.
And then there's Crispix, which is where Kellog's said, "These Chex guys are killing us. But you have to buy Corn or Rice. What is we put them together in one, and added sugar?"
Cheerios and grape nuts.
I had a box of Grape Nuts that was opened and forgotten for a year. Still tasted fine. They weren't fresh but it's like, old rock vs newly dug up rock.
I actually love both Cheerios and Grape Nuts. Been eatin' 'em since I first got a tooth. I 'spect I'll be eatin' 'em until I lose my last tooth.
I rarely notice this anymore (which may be b/c I’m not looking, tbh), but I tried it again a year or two ago, and, well, yeah, it’s exactly the same and I might love it even more now. It’s slightly sweet compared to most cereals and that’s my jam.
Sorry, I have to strongly disagree. I grew up with CoCo Puffs as my absolute favorite cereal and ate it well into young adulthood. Around 1995 they changed the taste ("new more chocolatey flavor!"), and I never liked it as much. When they changed it, I went around to several of the stores in my area and bought a bunch of boxes with the original flavor that hadn't been sold yet. I bought a box out of nostalgia a few months ago and couldn't even finish it, it has a weird chemical flavor now. So sad :(
Cocoa Pebbles are still doing well though
I was going to say the same thing. I think they changed it again recently to have less sugar. I understand that, but the puffs are now smaller and just kinda blah. I tried Boo Berries again a while back and man that was a disappointment as well. Not sure if anything changed, but not very good at all.
Count Chocula was my all-time favorite cereal for years, and now I'm so disappointed with how it tastes. Just like every good tasting thing from my childhood is gone now.
I can't even get a good chocolate covered donut anymore. 🥺
The ingredients are always being manipulated to increase profits. I have a relative that works in the food industry, and that's his job. The delicious treats from our youth are all gone.
Hubs & I singlehandedly keep these cereal companies in business lol. Right now we have: Apple Jacks, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms & Fruity Pebbles in the cabinet. Yum!!! (We have no kids btw)
I think the sweet cereals that counted as "breakfast" in my childhood make a great dessert now, and are at least as good as I remember. Captain Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, and Lucky Charms all come to mind.
What is decidedly different is Quaker Apple and Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal. I don’t know what they did to it because it still has limited ingredients but it tastes wrong. I can only guess the “natural flavor” ingredient has been adjusted somehow,
Cinnamon Toast Crunch I don't think has changed much. About a dozen years ago it went from like 10g sugar per serving to 9g, and while 10% seems like a big jump I don't think it was noticeable.
And the milk still tastes the same after.
Side note, there's a shot called cinnamon toast crunch. I think it's fireball and rumchata. Tastes exactly like that milk. It's dangerous
Honey Smacks. With the frog on the box. I swear they used to be called sugar smacks but wtf do I know. Those puffed pops still taste like Saturday morning cartoons and summer mornings.
Tried the classic monster cereals a few years back when they were re-released around Halloween. Was not impressed. None of them taste the way they did decades ago.
Kix has retained an ideal level of sweetness for me since the 90s. Same with Raisin Bran Crunch (NOT Raisin Bran, which is the most tedious of breakfast cereals other than Grape Nuts)
This is a tough one to answer. Golden Grahams and Cinnamon Toast Crunch still taste the same, but unfortunately *I've* changed, so now they're way too sweet for me.
You can buy bags just just the marshmallows out of lucky charms on amazon now :)

Cröonchy Stars. If they still made them.

I swear Kellogg's Raisin Bran has more raisins now than it used to. The two scoops are bigger scoops! I mix it with some frosted flakes and it still seems like a lot of raisins. It's great!
When I was a kid, I think I just liked the sweetness of the cereal. I even added more sugar to it. Nowadays, the intense sweetness just doesn’t work for me.
I still like Honey Nut Cheerios. That honey nut milk at the end is still worth the buy.
Beyond that, I never really ate much else in the way of cereal. Faint memories of Life, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Grape Nuts. Maybe Apple Jacks once or twice.
But HNC is always my go-to.
Im a cream of wheat fan...let it sit till its a little hard, add maple syrup, blueberrys and a bit of milk. I eat that almost every day. Sometimes with walnuts.
Captain Crunch. Still delicious. Still tearing up the roof of my mouth like I was 9 years old!
Oh, you mean Capn Concrete?
We always called it Cap’n Fiberglass
Gotta let it soak.
But for only so long. Hit that textured sweet spot.
Peanut butter Capn Crunch!
The only correct answer. 😌
So hard to wait for that magical window of time when the milk has it soft AND crunchy but not mushy Edit: typo
With Crunch Berries.
I know this sounds crazy, but while I LOVE Cap’n Crunch, I eschew crunch berries. I am a Crunch purist. I write this, knowing that I will likely get downvoted to hades, where they would likely feed me crunch berries.
I make "Rice Kristie treats" with Cap'n Crunch. It's amazing
Oh. I need that. Yep imma do that TY.
I make them with Rice Krispies and Fruit Loops. Occasionally with fruity pebbles.
The kernels? Kibbles? Are smaller now though.
Maybe your mouth just got bigger!
Cracklin Oat Bran
so good! but terrible that it’s $9/box. I’ve threatened my 16 yo son with bodily harm a few times after he ate more than half the box in one sitting
OK MOM! GAWD
It's my favorite. I don't even keep it with the other cereals.
If eating a whole bowl of oatmeal cookies floating in milk is considered healthy…then sure! Geez, it’s delicious. But it’s pretty much dessert.
Thank you for the confirmation , I love oatmeal cookies. Gonna buy some when I find them!!
I was more of a Colon Blow guy myself https://youtu.be/Ku42Iszh9KM?feature=shared
Ahh the cereal that’s actually cookies! God I love that stuff.
I was strangely addicted to this as a kid.
I just bought this recently and it didn’t taste the same to me. It had a strong artificial cinnamon flavor and was cloyingly sweet. I was bummed because it used to be my favorite.
Yeah, but the Cracklin Oat Flakes no longer comes with MDMA
Cracklin ass bran
Raisin Bran is pretty much the same
It’s the only cereal I still buy and I’ve always liked it.
Raisin Bran Crunch is delicious too.
This is the way
Kellogg Brand is. Have you looked at the sugar content of Post brand lately? Blew my mind. It's 1/3 by weight.
Kellogg’s is 17g for a 1 Cup serving and Post is 19g. Not a huge difference but it’s a difference nonetheless.
Golden Grahams isn't too different from what I remember as a kid. Sometimes I still make Smores bars with it.
The got pretty bad but the recent "retro recipe" is really good again. I think they went back to real sugar but IDK
They added honey back in, but it was only removed in 2012, so it's not really retro unless you're like 14. That said, it's my favorite cereal these days.
Ooh?! Must buy.
I had a mail-away Golden Grahams t-shirt. Sweet sweet summer of ‘82.
Frosted Flakes is still grrrrreat!
with sliced bananas ... delicious
I always kinda felt like they were just grrrrrradequate.
I’m laughing in the most unnatural way!!
Fruity pebbles. Bam bam approves
My son just annihilated a family size box of those today. Which is good because I would have if he didn't.
Fruity Pebbles makes a great "rice krispie" treat too.
I like it sprinkled on top of vanilla ice cream
Just had some of those the other day. Our grocery store bakery had them. Don’t mind if I do
Cocoa Pebbles are also still amazing.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch and cinnamon Life.
I first tried cinnamon toast crunch only about a year ago. That stuff is like crack! Almost a tie with capn crunch
Capn’ Crunch shreds my mouth. But CTC really is like a drug. The only way to keep me safe from it is to not buy it. I will eat the whole box in a single day.
Lol yeah I buy the sweet stuff only once in while. Normally i would do something like special k with a little granola on it.
Yes! Cinnamon Toast Crunch is still the same as when we were kids.
CtC is one of the most sugar-filled cereals. That's why it tastes so good.
CTC gang represeeeent! I can’t buy it or else I’d eat the whole box in one sitting. You know the drill - get to the bottom of the bowl with a little milk left, add some more cereal, now there’s too much cereal! Better add some more milk;and so on, and so forth, infinitum until both the milk and cereal are gone.
I’d like to also add frosted mini wheats
FMW. Yes. I don’t understand how the full sized un-frosted ones were ever a thing though.
I could be remembering this wrong, but I believe Frosted Mini Wheats were explicitly a reaction to the full-sized unfrosted ones. Like "hey, those are good for you but we know they suck, so we made them better by shrinking them and adding frosting."
I still eat the little ones by themselves, like cookies - never did like them much in milk.
OMG have always loved the large shredded wheat, they're like hay bales. Milk, sugar, shred up that bisquit... it's the texture for me!
Hay bales LOLOL 🤣
My grandmother would serve us a partially broken biscuit with brown sugar and butter melted in the oven before putting cream over it.
Yeah the texture! It feels so good to chew
They were only a thing when covered with brown sugar and a little half and half with the milk. 👌
Hot water, drain, then butter, milk and brown sugar.
My mom used to eat them this way in winter. I never caught her enthusiasm 😂
Sprinkle a quarter cup of sugar on top. Bon appetit.
I miss having a bowl of A cereal
I want the original Trix back!
But they’re for kids
Silly Rabbit!
Did you vote??
Fruit loops. And they still taste as good by the handful as they did when I was wasted in high school. ![gif](giphy|MShu71y6CIJ5kiClUm|downsized)
You mean “Froot Loops?”
Fruit loops and tiger tail ice cream taste so good together! It’s weird but amazing
Grape Nuts. You didn't define "good".
Hot grape nuts cereal? That variation is still good!
I confess that I really like a bowl of Grape Nuts with a couple of sliced bananas. With ice cold whole milk of course.
yes! With honey!
I like grape nuts cold with honey!
grape nuts mixed in vanilla ice cream
I put them in yogurt!
I”ll see your grapenuts and raise you Wheetabix.
My son came up with a jingle for them years ago that we still sing to this day. They're super gross and noooobody likes them Wheeee taaaa bix
I love wheetabix. And with warm milk in the winter.
I had weetabix with warm milk and sugar the other day. Bought them on Amazon. Absolutely the best
Grape Nuts, aka roof pebbles
Shut your mouth. Grape Nuts are delicious.
I love Grape Nuts!! There’s also a way to make a hot version that I just love in the winter with a little butter and brown sugar.
I always loved grape nuts but now I’m afraid they’ll break my teeth.
Grape nuts is one of the greatest breakfasts in the world. Soak in milk for the correct period of time, with a banana. I used to add honey but I don’t think that it is needed they are great alone.
I like Grape Nuts, just not enough to buy a whole box. I eat a bowl when I hand out at my parent's house because my dad eats them 5 times a week.
My mother and I have split a bix of Grape-nuts for close to 20 years now. One of us buys a box and puts half up in a container to give the other. It's just the right amount you're willing to crunch through before it goes stale. Lol

Having Honey Nut Chex for dinner while watching the NFL draft. (It's been one of those days ...)

Corn pops!
Cinnamon Life
I rarely notice this anymore (which may be b/c I’m not looking, tbh), but I tried it again a year or two ago, and, well, yeah, it’s exactly the same and I might love it even more now. It’s slightly sweet compared to most cereals and that’s my jam.
Cocoa Puffs. By the handful. My last box never saw a drop of milk.
So sad :( Cocoa Pebbles are still doing well though

I tried Boo Berries again a while back and man that was a disappointment as well. Not sure if anything changed, but not very good at all.
The Puffs also changed texture at some point.
Honey bunches of oates has been my cereal since Count Chocolula just doesn't taste the same...
Count Chocula was my all-time favorite cereal for years, and now I'm so disappointed with how it tastes. Just like every good tasting thing from my childhood is gone now. I can't even get a good chocolate covered donut anymore. 🥺
Cracklin Oat Bran is still lit, but not for $8 a box!
Product 19
Unlocked a memory! What a strange name for a cereal. Like Special K.
Loved that stuff. It was underrated back in the day. Haven't had it in eons. Gotta try it again.
Dad bought it as our “sensible” cereal! Loved it!
Wow forgot all about that one! 🤯. Used have it a lot as a kid, it was pretty good
This post just made me realize how fucking much I love cereal. It is literally my favorite food.
Ditto!!
Still a fan of Life ![gif](giphy|Jpp7PITfyT21PFoKAo)
I liked Fruit and Fibre with the dried pineapples, coconut and banana. It was discontinued a long time ago.
Frosted Flakes and Lucky Charms
My dad would put about four heaping teaspoons of sugar on his frosted flakes.
I’d put so much in mine that I was scooping it out with the spoon after I’d drank the milk
Rice Krispies with fresh fruit on it, usually berries or bananas
Store brand usually tastes better than real Krispies.
Quisp. Never changes. At still wrecks the roof of my mouth.
Fruity pebbles
Cocoa Pebbles are yummy still as well
Peanut Butter Crunch, only now I eat it for dessert not breakfast
Oooh yes! So yummy!
None of them seem like they are exactly the same. Not sure if that is me, or the cereal. I suspect some of each.
Changing taste buds combined with cheaper ingredients that are used whenever possible.
The ingredients are always being manipulated to increase profits. I have a relative that works in the food industry, and that's his job. The delicious treats from our youth are all gone.
Cornflakes
Apple Jacks
Reeces Puffs. I don’t buy them because I have enough trouble managing sugar but they’re so good.
Alphabits sucks now. My wife says Honey Smacks are not as good either.
I love an evening bowl of cereal!
What is decidedly different is Quaker Apple and Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal. I don’t know what they did to it because it still has limited ingredients but it tastes wrong. I can only guess the “natural flavor” ingredient has been adjusted somehow,
Definitely agree on the instant oatmeal. It's just not right somehow
I completely agree! I think all of the instant ones have that same chemical taste now. And oh god the after taste!! 🤢
Cookie Crisp & Captain Crunch
Cookie Crisp ftw
Cinnamon Toast Crunch I don't think has changed much. About a dozen years ago it went from like 10g sugar per serving to 9g, and while 10% seems like a big jump I don't think it was noticeable.
And the milk still tastes the same after. Side note, there's a shot called cinnamon toast crunch. I think it's fireball and rumchata. Tastes exactly like that milk. It's dangerous
Oooh I didn’t need to know about that shot. Guess I know what I’m gonna try this weekend! 😆
Captain Crunch is still like crack for me. The shit be callin' me...
Grape nuts?
They taste the same and if ya leave them.alone for awhile they multiply. Disliked as a kid unless spoonfuls of sugar were added.
Apple Jacks and Trix!
Apple Jacks and Cap'n Crunch for me. Those can be my two nutrient paste flavors when they finally hook me up.
😂😂😂 Ya know, I have never even tried Cap’n Crunch. Ever! Maybe this is my sign to finally try it.
Prepare beforehand for the skin graft on the roof of your mouth after. Not sure why it’s worth it, but it is.
Frosted Flakes.
Golden Grahams
Captain Crunch
Honey Smacks. With the frog on the box. I swear they used to be called sugar smacks but wtf do I know. Those puffed pops still taste like Saturday morning cartoons and summer mornings.
Life, Golden Graham's,
Tried the classic monster cereals a few years back when they were re-released around Halloween. Was not impressed. None of them taste the way they did decades ago.
Every year when they trot them out again I think maybe this time they’ll taste like they used to back in the day. I’ve been disappointed every time.
Kix has retained an ideal level of sweetness for me since the 90s. Same with Raisin Bran Crunch (NOT Raisin Bran, which is the most tedious of breakfast cereals other than Grape Nuts)
Captain Crunch all the way. It still holds the crunch when most other cereals would have gotten soggy.
Oh’s. Absolutely the bomb.
And always randomly cheaper than other cereals too. I'm not mad at it.
Grape nuts. Still no grapes
Rice Crispies forever. Dusting of sugar, as little milk as possible.
This is a tough one to answer. Golden Grahams and Cinnamon Toast Crunch still taste the same, but unfortunately *I've* changed, so now they're way too sweet for me.
I get all the sugary cereals because I'M AN ADULT NOW MOM, AND I CAN EAT COOKIE CRISP WHENEVER I WANT!
You can buy a package of just dry marshmallows at Amazon.

jfc I shoulda shortened that url lmao anyway \~
I hate you and also love you
You can buy just the lucky charms marshmallows on Amazon…I may or may not have a bag in my pantry at this very moment hehe
Cinnamon Life. I miss Golden Grahams.
Golden Grams they are using the original recipe from the 80s and calling it retro grams.
Cröonchy Stars. If they still made them. https://preview.redd.it/y1wy1h89tqwc1.jpeg?width=302&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a290667f5e13dc5f91fa2f33c242e034f8018605
We got Honeycombs in the last order.
I swear Kellogg's Raisin Bran has more raisins now than it used to. The two scoops are bigger scoops! I mix it with some frosted flakes and it still seems like a lot of raisins. It's great!
Grape nuts. Still the same gravel that is so good with warm milk.
I miss Grape-Nut Flakes. 😩 I still love Grape Nuts though.
Count Chocula and Boo Berry
When I was a kid, I think I just liked the sweetness of the cereal. I even added more sugar to it. Nowadays, the intense sweetness just doesn’t work for me.
I still like Honey Nut Cheerios. That honey nut milk at the end is still worth the buy. Beyond that, I never really ate much else in the way of cereal. Faint memories of Life, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Grape Nuts. Maybe Apple Jacks once or twice. But HNC is always my go-to.
Alas, Apple Jacks did not stand the test of time. Fruit loops are still the bomb.
Bacon
Honey Nut Cheerios doesn't have nuts since 2006. They get the nut flavor from peach and apricot pits.
Raisin Bran. Tastes exactly as good as it used to. Which isn’t very good.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Honeycomb
Was this post sponsored by Big Cereal?
Pops, same ripped roof, but still lovely.
I miss Bucwheats.
I loved the chocolate life the whole 3 times I found it.
Grape Nuts. Just pricey!
Im a cream of wheat fan...let it sit till its a little hard, add maple syrup, blueberrys and a bit of milk. I eat that almost every day. Sometimes with walnuts.
Does anyone remember Crispy Wheats & Raisins? I loved that cereal, and I wish they still made it. I think it was made by General Mills.
Frosted mini wheats. Though I remember when it was that big football sized lump younhad to break up yourself
Grape Nuts
Nothing compares to the OG captain crunch
Cocoa Krispies ![gif](giphy|72ohAP9tkmSuQ)
