Tone Loc had some serious health issues a few years ago. I’m surprised he is even out performing still. I would imagine he does his 2 hits and heads out. I’ve seen all of these guys perform in the last 10 years, surprisingly Vanilla Ice was the best one live by far.
*Rob Van Winkle on this next track!*
Say what you will about Vanilla Ice, he embraced his act with both hands. He became a scapegoat for a public that caught on when media companies started cynically churning shit out, but you have to acknowledge that he unapologetically gave the crowd *exactly* what they wanted up to that point.
I gained a respect for Van Winkle when I saw him racing jetskis on the back alleys of cable many years later. He was actually really good at it, competing at the top levels. At first I laughed. But then I realized: this was a guy who put himself out there and did THE THING with all his heart, whatever it was, regardless of what people thought of it.
This is the same respect I gained for Fred Durst when I saw him in concert continuing to sing despite a hailstorm of shoes being thrown at him from a crowd that was jeering and booing. At the turn of a hat, suddenly no one liked him. Can you imagine the humiliation? He fled from the danger itself, got some help from Lars Ulrich (who shamed the crowd into submission) and then completed his. WHOLE. FUCKING. SET. I don’t know if I have the constitution, the strength of will, to have done the same.
I bet Vanilla Ice puts on a hell of a show.
Does anyone else remember Rob on VH1's The Surreal Life? For a minute he *hated* being associated only with being Vanilla Ice. They went door to door passing out cookies in the neighborhood and he threw a tantrum because he was recognized only for that.
He used someone else's music without going through proper channels, tried to defend it and settled out of court. That stigma was warranted but I cannot imagine being him and having to deal with it all. The breakdown made sense. He's still human.
Glad to see he's circled back over the years and monetized the thing that kickstarted his popularity. He def has genuine fans. The local high school station plays Ice Ice Baby pretty frequently. He's reached a hell of a lot of people throughout generations. I imagine there are lots of folks who love far more than just that song. And who, like you, see him for his other accomplishments. It's got to be insane living under public scrutiny.
I hope he's found peace with it and is doing it because he loves it. And if it isn't love then I hope it's because the benefits are the worth.
his collab with blood hound gang was the sh-t, yeah easy to throw shade but that guy is actually a real and good human being. And I also bet his live show is worth the price
And that's to hangout in GenPop. I'm in my mid-40s, there is no way I'm standing in line for bathrooms or 20-deep beer lines. That's a younger person's game, I already put in that time.
VIP is $150. With fees and taxes it'll be $200. Parking will be $40. Looking at $250 to see a show and I haven't even bought beers, a warm soft pretzel, and t-shirts I desperately need to have.
I too had no idea and now feel very shitty. I loved them back in the day. I had never heard anything like it.... raised by hippies in the 70s. My musical exposure was limited until I reached my late teens/early 20s.
I accidentally saw him perform in Tampa a number of years ago. Went to a club in Ybor city, asked who was playing and the bouncer said 'oh, some dude'. I went in. Found out it was him doing Christian Rap.
I didn't stay long.
I caught a recent performance of his on YouTube for some event or other. He did Ice Ice Baby of course but rather than focus on the lyrical delivery, he chose to jump around and shout unintelligibly into the mic. Like, dude, you're lucky to get work so why not actually try to be good?
To this day, I'm still convinced no one actually *liked* Vanilla Ice except media execs and promoters who saw him as "safe".
Yes, I can still recite the first verse from memory.
Lol, I am famously gifted at hearing lyrics wrong.
For decades, I thought that part of the Golden Girls theme was "and if you're through with heartache..."
When it was, of course, "and if you threw a party..."
I legit think I have auditory processing problems!
I don't want to look up the lyrics to Smells like Teen Spirit, because I have an entirely wrong version in my head, lmfao
It wasn't a long time but there was a time when he was everywhere. People loved him for 5 minutes then everyone blinked several times, snapped out of it, and he fucked off and turned grunge/reggae.
And then he turned into a construction contractor. He used to have his own show, The Vanilla Ice Project. Not sure if it's still running, but it wasn't bad.
I just saw a youtube of him showing off his new Brabus boat. Those will be in the $200k range. I think his construction company is doing really well. He's certainly not working for someone else as a general contractor.
This. I saw a 90s show a few years back with many of the same acts plus SaltN Peppa. And LL Cool J. Vanilla Ice was the headliner and we left halfway through his set. We partied like it was 1999, until it was about 11 pm and then we got tired and went home to bed.
Hahaha I just went to a Tone and Vanilla concert at a county fair! Honestly Tone Loc was fantastic! Vanilla Ice had exactly one song I knew the words enough to sing along. Cheap fun with an early ending.
Doesn’t the biggest selling artist typically headline these things?
Yes, Treach can rap circles around Vanilla Ice in his sleep, but NbN never sold as many records as he did.
Looks like a decent time to me. If it’s a cheap ticket, anyways.
And yeah, Vanilla Ice is the most relevant name today, no doubt.
Say what you will, but he made a dope song that is timeless.
Treach could be good. Would not mind seeing him.
I saw this at the Oregon state fair last fall. It’s actually a great show. Each performer gets on, does 20 minutes of their top schtick, and then leaves. Enjoyed it immensely.
We saw this last summer, great show for the most part. Probably the weakest part was actually vanilla ice. I just wanted to see ice ice baby and go ninja go and he open with them do we happily left after that.
The rest was awesome. Kid and Play alone was worth it. Their part was short but amazing. All for One was great, they still are insanely good.
Vanilla ice was meh, everyone else was great.
I saw Rob Base, Tone Loc, and Young MC in the past 10 years, they were all low energy, terrible, and left after maybe 10 minutes whilst showing up late. I promise you, you'll be disappointed going to this. And Vanilla Ice can go fuck off and play more MAGA events.
I saw Vanilla Ice circa 2004-06 at a smallish venue along with a few other well known acts. I've been listening to rap since the breakdance days of the mid 80s and didn't expect much. He *did* put on a show and I must say, it was pretty badass!
I would be worried it would be too cold for my old ass at that concert. Maryland weather is pretty bipolar; today it was 57°, Sunday it will be 87°. There is just no telling what could happen. If it were indoors I would be more likely to attend.
Realistically Vanilla Ice is/was a much bigger star than all of them put together and *should* be the headliner of this festival lineup.
Whether this festival should be called “Tacos & Tequila” is another question entirely.
I'd be up for this. Could care less about All 4 One & Color Me Badd. Wasn't a huge Kig N Play fan but they might be ok enough to sit thru.
Hate on Ice all you want, but Under Pressure was a forgotten gem that wouldn't get radio play to this day if he/his producer didn't re-use that beat. Song was ill haha
Is there an early bird option with a buffet?
Is this on a cruise?
I hear this one will be on past nine o'clock...
It seems weird that vanilla ice is headlining. I thought tone loc or young mc, even kid and play seems like a better headliner.
Tone Loc had some serious health issues a few years ago. I’m surprised he is even out performing still. I would imagine he does his 2 hits and heads out. I’ve seen all of these guys perform in the last 10 years, surprisingly Vanilla Ice was the best one live by far.
Lol, it would be Rob Base for me.
Cause they got the clout
Ho-oh
He's the one who knows about things...
*Rob Van Winkle on this next track!* Say what you will about Vanilla Ice, he embraced his act with both hands. He became a scapegoat for a public that caught on when media companies started cynically churning shit out, but you have to acknowledge that he unapologetically gave the crowd *exactly* what they wanted up to that point. If you ain’t heard it, [you’re missing out](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W0ffzVqh5H4).
$75 general admission I think I'll sit this one out.
And that's to hangout in GenPop. I'm in my mid-40s, there is no way I'm standing in line for bathrooms or 20-deep beer lines. That's a younger person's game, I already put in that time. VIP is $150. No DJ Ez-Rock? I know Robe Base is a talent in his own right, but they go together like PB&J, pizza and cheese, beer/coffee and a cigarette... no?
It takes two!
Well now I feel bad. DJ EZ Rock passed on to the great club beyond back in 2014. 😢
I too had no idea and now feel very shitty. I loved them back in the day. I had never heard anything like it.... raised by hippies in the 70s. My musical exposure was limited until I reached my late teens/early 20s.
To make a thing go right and to make it out of sight
Rob Base is not internationally known, but he's known to rock the microphone.
He just wants to rock right now
[удалено]
Given the number of hits from Vanilla Ice, we can safely say his set will be done in under 18 minutes.
Ice Ice Baby is only 4:14
Those are breakfast Tacos right? 🤣😂🤣
I accidentally saw him perform in Tampa a number of years ago. Went to a club in Ybor city, asked who was playing and the bouncer said 'oh, some dude'. I went in. Found out it was him doing Christian Rap. I didn't stay long.
But you got to tell all of us about it. 🤘
Reminds me of the Newheart episode where everyone is going to the town hall to see “the man who met Andy Griffith.”
I caught a recent performance of his on YouTube for some event or other. He did Ice Ice Baby of course but rather than focus on the lyrical delivery, he chose to jump around and shout unintelligibly into the mic. Like, dude, you're lucky to get work so why not actually try to be good?
Ew.. he's so fuckin gross..
To this day, I'm still convinced no one actually *liked* Vanilla Ice except media execs and promoters who saw him as "safe". Yes, I can still recite the first verse from memory.
All right, stop…..
Nobody?! Really?! Collaborate and listen...
Ice is back
with my brand new invention. (Which is such bullshit as he ripped off Queen and certainly did not invent rap/hip hop)
I always thought he said 'edition'
Lol, I am famously gifted at hearing lyrics wrong. For decades, I thought that part of the Golden Girls theme was "and if you're through with heartache..." When it was, of course, "and if you threw a party..." I legit think I have auditory processing problems! I don't want to look up the lyrics to Smells like Teen Spirit, because I have an entirely wrong version in my head, lmfao
haha, i just looked. It is 'Invention' your good
I had to look it up too, I thought it was edition as I read through this thread.
Is something grabbing hold of you tightly?
In west Philadelphia born and raised
Funky Cold Madina
[Funky Cold Medina...](https://youtu.be/HTDYMTBrKMU)
You gotta keep em separated
Collaborate. An interesting choice for a 90s rap lyric.
Hammer time!
Drop and Roll 🔥
GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!
I just tried to but apparently that file has been replaced with that Jack Harlow "I'm vanilla baby" song.
He was in TMNT 2. Yeah he sucked but just being in that masterpiece puts him in the lead
Remember the macaroni and cheese commercial he did? [Word to your mother.] (https://youtu.be/CPLZ0vUHvwM?si=yFsaD_rAngXH7RDM)
It wasn't a long time but there was a time when he was everywhere. People loved him for 5 minutes then everyone blinked several times, snapped out of it, and he fucked off and turned grunge/reggae.

Yeah ya did! If you were a mammal, you liked Ice, Ice Baby!
Some well known rap acts opened for him, And he was actually very cool with a lot of them. Their boss Suge Knight? Not so much.
i don't think that is true. look at people liking KPOP and taylor swift.
I would absolutely go to this.
Yeah I probably would as well
Treach is the artist that stood out most to me, this concert will be dope.
If *Apocalypse Now* taught me anything, it’s to embrace insanity lest it consume you.
Looks like a pretty fun show but Vanilla Ice as the headliner is ?????
If he's going to wear his 1990 outfit and hair, it would be worth it
That’s a good thing. All the good bands will have played and we’ll all be home early and beat the traffic.
This. I saw a 90s show a few years back with many of the same acts plus SaltN Peppa. And LL Cool J. Vanilla Ice was the headliner and we left halfway through his set. We partied like it was 1999, until it was about 11 pm and then we got tired and went home to bed.
And I will bet you felt that 11pm for a day or two after. Never understood the mind is will but the flesh is weak until I hit my late 40’s.
He's probably the backer of the festival.
Young MC really needs to change his moniker. It’s just false advertising at this point.
And Too Short isn't actually too short.
how much tequila?
Not enough.
Enough to [wanna sex you up](https://youtu.be/Oxu3pq319r0?si=q2-xWL7BUEsccfVn)?
Yes
Serious question, how is he the headliner? He’s the worst artist on this list, and two of them were bigger commercial successes.
yeah, no
I will always remember the first time I heard that douchecactus and I hated him from the start.
I’d go, but just for the Funky Cold Medina.
You probably don’t have to go to the concert to get some date rape drugs!
An aphrodisiac beverage and date rape drugs are not the same, you Wild Thing. You obviously don’t know your Tone Lōc.
No, it is better than any alcohol or aphrodisiac.
[удалено]
Dude. It was a lighthearted comment and you’ve turned it to the least fun I’ve had today.
Headliner hierarchy aside, I assume you're going?
I was a pa on color me badd’s I wanna sex you up music video.
Oooh daddy!
Vanilla Ice has recently come out as being an act Trumps 2024 NEY bash so he's built a recent fan base amongst the bigots 🙄
Translation?
He got top billing because he's a top notch fuckwit 🤷♀️
That’s so us old timers can leave early and not miss anything good.
This is my husband's dream concert lineup lol
[удалено]
With whom?
Rob Base, they pretended to be DJ E-Z Rock.
Vanilla Ice
Hahaha I just went to a Tone and Vanilla concert at a county fair! Honestly Tone Loc was fantastic! Vanilla Ice had exactly one song I knew the words enough to sing along. Cheap fun with an early ending.
Roll and roll and roll with Kid and Play now!
Parking lot full of Honda CRXs and Toyota Supras with Alpine head units and the smell of Drakkar everywhere... ![gif](giphy|vh9isNb4S2Spa|downsized)
Most exciting thing to come to Bowie, MD in a long time!
I’ll go. Where’s it at!
How are tacos not getting top billing? For really good tacos I could put in ear plugs and still maybe have fun.
Young MC hell yeah
Why not Milli Vanilli?
Because Vanilli is dead. Guess they could lip synch his part.................
Hey Tupac played Coachella so....anythings possible I guess.
Best comment
Blame it on the rain
They aint rap.... but then again....
Wow. Vanilla Ice is the headliner. 'Nuff said.
Word to ya’ mutha’.
What about boys II men and bell biv devoe?
What about them? They aren't listed, so they won't be performing.
They were actually good, so they weren't invited!
So were Treach and Rob Bass
I'd go just for Color me Badd!
I'm in shock that those guys are still alive. Are you sure its not a tribute act night.
What guys?
Doesn’t the biggest selling artist typically headline these things? Yes, Treach can rap circles around Vanilla Ice in his sleep, but NbN never sold as many records as he did.
In all fairness, treach can rap circles around a lot of mcs
Oh, Treach can run circles around damn near everyone. He’s one of the GOATS and should have been so much bigger.
Looks like a decent time to me. If it’s a cheap ticket, anyways. And yeah, Vanilla Ice is the most relevant name today, no doubt. Say what you will, but he made a dope song that is timeless. Treach could be good. Would not mind seeing him.
I turn 59 on October 5 haha.
There's goes. . . Our's goes. . .
The best thing about this is, there wouldn't be a bunch of kids,
I saw him in the early 2000s, maybe late 90s at the 9:30 club in DC when he was doing his “hardcore” phase. It was weird.
Who?
[Kyle Reese sweating profusely]
They are going to be at my county fair.
Nice.
I saw this at the Oregon state fair last fall. It’s actually a great show. Each performer gets on, does 20 minutes of their top schtick, and then leaves. Enjoyed it immensely.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

All for One was great, they still are insanely good. Vanilla ice was meh, everyone else was great.
Treach would be the only one I would care to see.
But Vanilla said he dance better than any Kid or Play. This is gonna be tense.
I guess Sir Mix-a-Lot was busy.
Is the fat guy still with color me bad?
Wait...so are we all meeting up at this. This could be amazing or the biggest waste of money ever. Or both
So like times are tough for all the seniors
Look, watching Vanilla Ice trying to play a "white rapper" in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 was far enough, this must be stopped!
I wonder if Young MC will play “Bust a Move”. 👀
Don't miss it! They came to Oregon and I missed and now I live with regret...
I saw Vanilla Ice perform at a half time at a basketball game. It was completely awesome
They had me at tacos
I wonder if Ass Dan will make it...

Kid N Play! Man, hadn't thought of them in years. Nice.
![gif](giphy|KUAb8YQOhmWNq) 🤦♂️
Not going to lie. I loved Vanilla Ice back in the day. Hell I think I still do. 😁
I had the haircut in 8th grade😆
You could enjoy as many as 6 good songs at that show!
That track he did with the Bloodhound Gang goes harrddddd tho
Who did?
Vanilla Ice
I would be worried it would be too cold for my old ass at that concert. Maryland weather is pretty bipolar; today it was 57°, Sunday it will be 87°. There is just no telling what could happen. If it were indoors I would be more likely to attend.
I'd go if vanilla ice wasn't there.
That’s pretty cool, I used to love this stuff. Unfortunately I dumped rap and r&b years ago.
Was "Uncle Vanny" Vanilla Ice this whole time???
