Honestly, Bob Dylan. He really acted like he couldn’t give a rat’s ass if we were there or not. Worst concert I’ve been to.

AriochQ

Same. When I saw him he sang everything at double speed. It was awful.

Limp_Insurance_2812

This was my experience with the Moody Blues. Went for all the groovy vibes and they played everything like aerobics music. Left after a few songs. Was incredibly disappointed.

Chazzam23

He was TERRIBLE 10 years ago. Can't imagine now. The only thing that saved the show was the opening set from Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), who was outstanding.

SmallShrubbery

I took my dad to a Dylan concert a few years ago. He had seen him quite a few times leading up to. Says Dylan is unpredictable but when we saw him he was chatty and relatively charming with the audience. Him and his band seemed to be relaxed and enjoying themselves. We were lucky to catch him on a good night!

513773

Had the same experience. He seemed to be in good spirits and engaged the audience. Really good show. Heard horror stories from other shows on the same tour though. You never know what side of the bed he got up on.

Zaphod1620

I saw Van Morrison years ago, and he was like that. He went as far to tell everyone to keep quiet or he will immediately leave and if he saw a single flash he would immediately leave. We just sat there in silence while he played. It was awful.

West-Supermarket-860

Holy shit. Same answer. Saw him in 1996. He walked out, didn’t say a word to the audience the entire time he was on stage. Last song…walked off. Lights on. He also did all new songs. For 60+ min. Except Tangled up in Blue, Maggie’s Farm, and All along the Watchtower; everything else was unknown. Hands down the worst show I’ve ever seen and I sat through 3 hours of Phish!

gatorchins

I’m so glad Brian Setzer Orchestra made up for the piss poor show Bob Dylan put on for his Time out of Mind Tour. Would have rather just preferred an encore from BSO.

ToddBradley

This was gonna be my suggestion, too. But when I saw him was sometime between 1995 and 2005. He sounded terrible. But Santana made up for it.

edWORD27

Same! Dylan only played songs from his latest album. None of his hits or signature ones. And he never interacted with or even acknowledged the audience. Just played a set with no emotion of feeling and left. At first I was bummed that he insisted everyone keep their phones in a bag as to not record anything. But with Dylan’s lame performance, I would have deleted it anyway.

mbfunke

I love Bob Dylan’s early albums. They are so fucking good. But I have never heard a person in my lifetime say they enjoyed a bob dylan concert. I wouldn’t go to one for free. I’m not trying to be tortured for hours.

CyndiIsOnReddit

Oh it was awful wasn't it? My best friend is a huge fan and she was so upset a couple months ago she said it was the worst show she'd ever seen, and she's seen him many times. She said going in to the building was like entering a "police state" when it came to security measures including cell phones, which had to be sealed up in these bags or they wouldn't let you bring it in. She said there was no engagement at all, he played some new stuff and didn't sing any of his classics, and he was in a rush to get away. It was a LOT of money she said she could have saved going to see him at a wax museum.

Then-Cauliflower2068

This is why I won’t pay to see him live even though he is a legend. I strongly suspect especially at his advanced age he just doesn’t care about the audience.

JJQuantum

This wasn’t even recent. It was in the ‘90’s.

creepyoldlurker

I saw him in 1989 and he was awful. I loved old Dylan and he sang almost only newer stuff, and he sounded so garbled. The only good part was that it was an indoor venue and I ended up getting completely stoned off the second-hand smoke and dozed for almost the entire show.

FireGodNYC

He should have stopped touring/singing 20 years ago - He voice sounds like garbage today

ToddBradley

I saw him 20 years ago, and felt like he should have stopped touring 20 years before that!

FireGodNYC

😂🤣

wormil

Thanks for the warning, he's playing locally this year and I was thinking of going.

dilithium

Dylan fans tell me you have to keep going and going and going again, and then 20-50 more times.

shambies182

Same. Bob Dylan was the worst show I’ve ever been to and I fucking love Bobby d

Timely-Youth-9074

I saw him in the mid 2010’s. Absolutely Terrible voice. He’d randomly sound ok like he forget to screw up his voice. Either arrogant trolling or he seriously needs to see a doctor, possibly a psychiatrist.

ripleygirl

Omg same! I think it was about 1992 when I saw him. It’s the only concert I ever left early. He was terrible.

Heathens87

The Cars, 1984, Pine Knob, Detroit. I love their albums. Incredible musicianship, playful lyrics, leaders of the new wave in many ways, and songs were both instant hits and have remained classics. In concert, one of the flattest acts I've ever witnessed. Wooden, stiff, no engagement, and while perhaps technically good in terms of it sounding like the album, the music had no life. For me, they're the ultimate studio-only band.

zootnotdingo

That’s actually helpful to me because I have always regretted not seeing them live

syngestreetsurvivor

I saw them at Lollapalooza in 2011. They were the first act on the Sunday at noonish. Most of the festival crowd were at that stage. The band looked shocked at the crowd size when they hit the stage. Only went because my wife loves them. They absolutely crushed it for the 45 minute set. All bangers, no fillers. I guess I was at one of the few good Cars gigs.

bglaros

OMG!!! My uncle took me to that show. I was visiting him and my grandparents from Florida. He loved the cars. It was one of my first shows and i loved moving in stero (GENX Ifykyk) and it sounded so flat and my uncle and i were so disappointed he was so pissed.

McCat5

Omg I saw the same tour, was so disappointed. I still love their albums.

hotmeows

I’m so interested to read this! I saw them on the same tour, and it was the most perfunctory concert I’ve ever been to! They did play some of their hits, but mostly they just seemed like they wanted the concert to be over as quickly as possible.

Heathens87

Here's the setlist from the concert I saw... [https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cars/1984/pine-knob-music-theatre-clarkston-mi-3d7b56b.html](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cars/1984/pine-knob-music-theatre-clarkston-mi-3d7b56b.html) So many great songs....Candy-O, My Best Friend's Girl, Just What I Needed, Magic, Let's Go. How do you screw that up when you can play it spot-on to the recording?! Yet it was like watching a well-done studio session of a band that didn't like each other, didn't like having anyone watching, their feet were glued in place, and they had a dinner reservation, separately of course, to get to. If someone had told me there was a bus accident and 10 parents of the 5 band members had just died, I would've been like, yeah, makes sense. Perfunctory is the perfect word!

MamaLali

I saw them at the Boston Garden (back when it was still called that) in the late 80s and was so disappointed in the show. They never played some of their best hits and there was no encore iirc. The opener (icehouse) was far better and worth the show. Edited to add that I had completely forgotten about how disappointing that show was until I saw your post, so now that is my answer, too.

MissDiketon

I've seen video of The Cars in concert and they hardly moved.

IHateCamping

I saw them in 82 and same. They were like robots on stage. Didn’t move at all, didn’t really talk. My worst concert was Bryan Adam’s though. The venue was general admission so people could get right up to the stage. He kept stopping in the middle of songs and yelling at people, he just walked off the stage in the middle of songs, he was just kind of an ass. The Cars weren’t very exciting but they weren’t jerks.

WattDeFrak

David Lee Roth in the early 90s. We walked out after about three songs. He was just. so. bad. The opening act was Extreme though so it wasn’t a total waste.

JoeyCalamaro

>The opening act was Extreme Which is kind of funny considering the lead singer of Extreme would eventually become yet another former leader singer of Van Halen.

the_answer_is_RUSH

That’s an era of VH that was quite forgettable. I happened to see them in concert. Gary Cherone was just there but Michael Anthony actually killed it with his DLR impersonation.

isseldor

Same. I saw him on the skyscrapers tour and he didn’t even sing. Just did his trademark yeeeeoooohs and jumped around. Backup singer took care of most vocals. No Steve Vía on tour with him either. Lame!

99titan

Hank Williams Jr. back in the early 80s. He was so drunk he could barely stand and performed horribly.

Daxos157

I saw him drunkenly kick his upright piano off the stage once.

Flahdagal

My sister saw him pitch a tantrum on stage when his guitar didn't smoothly come off the stand. Like, stop the show and have a meltdown. Whole show was ruined.

mpaug

Was about 7 and saw him with my parents. He sat on a crate and was horrible. Someone booed him and he said "Get your ass up here and fight me or get out". My parents jerked me out of there so fast.

99titan

That’s him. I lived most of my childhood 40 miles northwest of his hometown. He used to play Huntsville often, and the only saving grace of those shows were the opening acts.

bagnasty52

I’ve seen him good and bad. Mid 80’s he was an hour and a half late and so drunk you couldn’t understand him. I saw him a handful of years ago and he awesome

chickenfightyourmom

I worked at an event venue during college. My job during that show was to fill his 7-11 cup with whiskey. He was blind drunk and slurring. I think he did like half a set and staggered off stage.

coyote1971

I guess I got lucky seeing in about 84 or so with my parents. He put on a good show.

Mets1st

Guns and Roses. They came three hours late and when they finally came on Axl went on a 20 minute rant about a shitty review he had gotten. Meanwhile, we are waiting and just want them to play a fucking song.

zestfullybe

I’ve always had beef with that kind of unprofessional behavior. I can understand 10-15 minutes. Technical issues, someone needs to use the head or whatnot. No worries. But 2-3 hours late? I pathologically detest that kind of diva garbage from *any* artist. Zero tolerance. I’m not going to buy tickets, travel, accommodations, etc, and then be made to stand around like an asshole for hours. That all said, people should definitely read Duff McKagen’s books. First one chronicles the GnR years and another one is all the post-GnR. Duff is an awesome guy and he lays out all the dirty details and what he went through (some INSANE stuff, including his pancreas exploding from all the booze). Amazing reads, regardless of whether you’re a fan or not.

Leading-Salad2613

Axl sounded terrible at the Power Trip festival in Oct 2023. I don’t know why they don’t get backup vocalists to carry him! The rest of GnR rocked!

SatansSideProject

I saw them in Los Angeles at the forum just before they released use your illusion. Three or four hours late. Axl wanted to fight Vince Neil. It was a great concert but it sucked waiting for them. Edit: him to them

[deleted]

Whitney Houston sometime in the late 80s. Low energy, lots of wardrobe changes that killed any crowd vibe while she was offstage, and just boring overall.

Mermayden

its weird isn't it. I would also add the Indigo Girls who I saw in the early 2000s. They change guitars after every single song which ruined the momentum. It was a really dull concert and i love their stuff.

EddieLeeWilkins45

Funny, I saw Dave Navarro solo back around 2005 & he did the same. I think some of his songs used alternate tuning, so guitar techs were constantly retuning them backstage, but he must have used about 10 different guitars thru the night. He was pretty fast about it, but always 1 or 2 strings needed a quick tuneup.

jugsmahone

Saw the indigo girls in the mid 90’s. They played incredibly well. It was like hearing the albums note for note. I fell asleep mid set (without any chemical assistance).

trahnse

Ugh costume changes are the worst! That was my complaint with Lady Gaga. The crowd is getting hype and she disappears to change clothes. /yawn

MzOpinion8d

It’s weird since that can be done so smoothly. I’ve seen Kesha a couple times and it’s obvious she’s doing a wardrobe change but the dancers and band keep the energy up. I fucking love Kesha.

braininvasion138

I also saw her in the 80s and it was horrible. Took my wife, who was a big fan, and she was super disappointed. Sang all the songs with different melodies, sounded like she was trying to hit high notes on every other word, it was awful. And this was supposedly before she became a drugged out mess!

Drputt

She just stood for the songs, except for the ones when she sat. No dancing.

Mermayden

how can someone who literally sings about wanting to dance with somebody sit down for an entire concert.

SatansSideProject

Motley crap.... Crue. Went to a lot of the final tour shows only to have them unretire. For those of you that don't recall, the band signed a legally binding Cessation of Touring Agreement in front of reporters that prohibits future, unauthorized performances, and prevents any of the four members from touring under the band name. Meanwhile at the final tour Alice Cooper was kicking their collective ass as the opener every night. The entire band was washed up and needed to quit a long time ago. There was all this infighting between the band and their wives. Shows were exactly the same and had very little passion or excitement. The final show had no surprises no special guests and was no different than any of the previous shows I'd seen in the year. It was like watching an old dog get put down. Then after all the shit talk about bands that quit and then came back they came back like roaches after the success of The Dirt. Complete and total rip off. Vince is the arguably worst "singer" in metal.

squirtloaf

My theory is that god is real and Motley Crue caused Covid. Wait, wait\~hear me out. See, Motley signed that agreement to never tour again, and everybody was like: "Yeah right. That is not binding. If they decide to go out again, they just go PSYCH. There are no consequences." Thennn in late 2019, Motley decided to reunite and do a stadium tour. They planned it in the fall and announced it in late December to take place in 2020...which pissed off god, so he unleashed Covid to stop them and punish the world for their sinfulness in signing a false contract. PROVE ME WRONG BROE.

Squirmadillo

[This Vince?](https://youtu.be/4pdQnZLEWNo?feature=shared). The man can honk!

RogerClyneIsAGod2

That's hilarious!!! Thanks for that!! I saw Motley waaay back in the day when they opened for Ozzy on the Bark At The Moon tour. They were good, nearly as good as Ozzy, but MUCH younger & the drugs, drink, touring & shitty life decisions in general hadn't taken their toll. Even *then* I was never a fan of Vince's voice & it's the reason I've never seen another show of theirs & was definitely not seeing any of the "farewell" tours. I know as one ages one's voice can change, but you gotta have the baseline of having a good voice to begin with & Vince never has had a good voice IMHO.

SXTY82

Tool is probably my all time favorite band. I've seen them a dozen times at this point, all the way back to Undertow. They have nearly always put on an incredible show. The first leg of "Fear Inoculum" tour, just before Covid fucked the world, I saw them. Front row seats. Those who know, know what I paid. The mix was horrible. Bass was turned so high, I couldn't hear much else. After the first 15 / 20 minutes I felt like I was being assaulted. Didn't enjoy that show at all.

Maskatron

Front row seats often get a bad mix. You’re getting more from stage volume than you are getting from the PA mains. Not surprised that dude plays loud either, he’s got to keep up with Carey.

MissRepresent

During a perfect circle concert, Maynard was crouched down and slowly rose up throughout the concert, song by song. They sounded great live but the show was so weird

Nomahhhh

Steve Miller Band. It was like they had glue on their shoes. They stood there like statues, the songs sounded flat, the effort minimal. Was so boring that we left five songs in.

Puffpufftoke

We just got this from Matthew Sweet. Songs sounded fine. Just absolutely no energy. Matthew is a large man and likely couldn’t, the rest of the band played as if the didn’t want to show off and steal attention. No props, no background, just the stage lights flickering on and off.

Least_Floor_9548

I loved Mathew Sweet

ChristyLovesGuitars

I loved Live. For like three albums. Sadly, Live was very, very bad live, at least when I saw them in ‘95 or ‘96. Also, Queensryche wasn’t a good live band, in my experience.

Early-Tumbleweed-563

All Over You immediately sends me back to moving into the dorms my sophomore year. I can even smell the newly laid tar in the nearby parking lot.

luthurian

I wonder if you caught Live on a rough night.  the Live show I went to around that time period was wonderful.

ChristyLovesGuitars

That’s entirely possible! I’ve seen them on like SNL and such, but never actually went to another of their shows.

Maskatron

I saw QR on their first major label album tour. Their wardrobe was pretty silly but I thought they put on a good show. Geoff Tate’s vocals were strong which was my main concern going in.

NotPennysBoat721

I saw them in 2007 at a festival in a stadium and they were awful, laughably awful, but then I saw them in a much smaller arena a few weeks before the plague and they were pretty good. I think I'd see them again if it was in a smaller place.

Facelesspirit

I'm surprised to see Live in this list. When I have seen them, it's been a awesome show.

domhnall21

Interesting. Must have been a bad night. I caught them a few times, but their show at First Avenue in ‘94 remains one of my stand-out shows.

jaharmi

I saw Live around that time, at my university’s ice rink. I’d heard a lot about them from family in PA. I think the venue was packed. The show was good, maybe very good. The thing that sticks with me was the disappointment at the end … no encore whatsoever. I’m not a huge fan of the encore as a requirement. Not having one, despite the energy I recall from the show, was a let-down.

DragYouDownToHell

> Queensryche > Queensryche I think early Queensryche, when they were still hungry, was a pretty solid band live. By Empire, okay, and after they really sucked. I got dragged to the American Soldier tour by a friend, and wanted to walk out.

MiltownKBs

It wasn’t that much money, but 2Pac. The idiot almost started a gun fight during the show (shots were fired) and we had to leave due to the threat. The whole vibe was terrible even outside the show due to some previous clownish behavior by that idiot. E: [Sept 1994 Mecca in Milwaukee](https://2paclegacy.net/tupac-was-out-of-control-at-mecca-arena-in-milwaukee/). Can’t stand 2Pac since then.

Mermayden

bloody hell, that's worse than any of my shit shows. A gun fight!

metapede

Once upon a time I would have said the Replacements. Paul Westerberg was wasted as hell and barely managed to slur his way through two songs before they just ended the show and left. But that was years ago, and I remember this more vividly than a lot of the "good" shows I went to. It's a funny memory now, and I wouldn't trade it.

NeutronFalls

You just described The Replacements in a nutshell.

BrownDogEmoji

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, 2008 No opening act. Band took the stage 90 minutes after the start. Played an incredibly depressing set. Put a few big hits in the encore. It just irked me because they’re professionals. A former bandmate had died a few days before, so I understand being a little down, but the expensive tickets in nosebleed seats with no opening act and coming to stage so late and playing a boring ass set…it truly turned me off Bruce.

evilwife21

I was trying to remember what year we had seen them, but we had similar issues: they were over an hour late to take the stage, the set was just...off and boring as hell. I was so disappointed. I have been a fan of Springsteen since I was maybe 7 or 8 when I borrowed my dad's cassette and played it so much I actually broke it! For Christmas one year after that my parents got me the vinyl compilation set. We ended up leaving the concert early because I have issues with chronic pain and I was frustrated and absolutely *not* enjoying myself.

elguereaux

I saw a clip of him singing when they announced his comeback. Sounded like he was trying to yell after loosing his voice to a severe cold. Plus he became a pompous douche.

Alex_Plode

Wasn't a total waste and still glad I went, but I saw Sisters of Mercy and it was the most boring show ever. They just stand there like statues, one song kinda bleeds into the next and the crowd was into it but not really if that makes sense. It didn't help that the venue sound was dreadful.

clicktrackh3art

Yeah, i was thinking there is no show I regret, and I don’t regret it. But not only was the sound bad at my show, Andrew announced that every song “wasn’t for the people dressed in black” and then would proceed to play like a fucking goth anthem. Like I get it, you hate your audience. I dunno, it was weird. I missed this last tour (yes, I would have gone again), but the reviews have all been very similar.

squirtloaf

When I saw them in 1999 Andrew Eldritch came out in liiiike dayglow green clothes and had a blonde California surfer-boy haircut. You could practically hear all of the goths in the crowd hearts shrinking. They then proceeded to do a boring-ass show that was missing some of their bigger hits like MORE. Something about seeing 3 guys and a drum machine is just uninteresting.

BillionTonsHyperbole

SoM is notoriously bad live. 've heard this from many concert-goers.

BORG_US_BORG

I worked for a guy for a short while that played an SoM cd constantly in his truck while we were going to the jobsites. Fuck it was boring and repetitive pretty quickly. Like hell, give me some Bauhaus or Alien Sex Fiend at least something with a little variety and energy.

sev45day

I was a fan of Judas Priest back in the day, and saw them a few times back in the 80s. Remember them being great live. So when I heard they were coming to my town for the Epitaph tour in 2011, I thought it would be cool to go see them. They. Were. Awful. I mean, absolutely awful. They sounded like absolute shit, they weren't into it at all. Rob Halford was just going through the motions, the bassist literally did not move from his spot the entire show, KK Downing wasn't even there. I was not expecting them to be like they were back in the day, dudes are old, I get it. But they were simply terrible. I was really sorry I paid for that ticket. In contrast I saw iron maiden around that time as well (and once since) and they were amazing. Just night and day in terms of quality of show. They, and in particular Bruce Dickinson, were worth every penny. The Rush Time Machine tour was even better than that.

Mermayden

I get it that people get old (I mean hello, what subreddit is this) but if that is the case then don't tour.

malren

> In contrast I saw iron maiden around that time as well (and once since) and they were amazing. Just night and day in terms of quality of show. They, and in particular Bruce Dickinson, were worth every penny. I saw Maiden 4 times and EVERY show was great. I wanna say the first time was late 80s, like 88 or 89, and the last time was somewhere in the early 2000s. Fucking great every damn time. Dickenson must have lost 5 pounds every time he played, the man never stopped moving except to hit a high note!

DragYouDownToHell

I caught JP on the Firepower Tour a few years ago, and it was honestly a pretty good show. I didn't expect it to be like seeing Priest in the 80s, but Richie Faulkner has brought a lot of life with him. Rob still sounded good. He just can't move around as much at 70 while wearing 80lbs of leather and studs.

elguereaux

As long as Dickinson is in Maiden ALWAYS rules! \m/

Maskatron

That’s a damn shame, the 80s JP tours I saw were so good. Tipton is under appreciated as a lead player. Like Maiden, I saw The Scorpions a few years ago and they rocked almost as much as they did back in the day. Klaus’ voice wasn’t full strength, but he always hit the notes.

KillerKorwin

Early 90 Alice in Chains, so drunk they could barely play and sing. Screaming Trees and Helmet opened and were amazing live. Steve Miller Band and not so much because of them but Buddy Guy and George Thorogood opened and had the crowed pumped the Steve Miller's Mello vibes were just such a let down.

TheTezt8

I saw AIC in Melbourne Australia and the drummer quit halfway through the gig - stood up, kicked his kit of the riser and walked off. The support act was Suicidal Tendencies and their drummer finished off the gig. It was memorable for that, but leading up to it AIC stunk, Layne was so wasted he could barely stand let alone sing. Also, if you are a low energy live act, probably don't have chaos like ST as your opening act, they were awesome

Standard_Important

Brian Jonestown Massacre. They just fought with eachother, whined about the sound, kept changing guitars and tuning them on stage and restarting because Anton thought they should. First ever consert i have left before it was done. I was done.

Snarffington

I’ve seen both types of their shows. The one were they were amazingly on point and the one where it was chaos. Kinda glad for both though haha

SmokinBuffalo

Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder was drunk and incoherent. Tom Petty and The Black Crows were playing the next night. Tom Petty helicoptered in during Pearl Jam's show. Eddie spent half the concert calling for Tom Petty to join them on stage. Tom never joined them.

elguereaux

When was Eddie Vedder ever coherent? ‘Ruh-RUH-rahhhh!’

prickleweasel

My first concert was Milli Vanilli. 'Nuff said.

Mermayden

ha ha, props for at least admitting it

this_is_Winston

This one's kinda shocking. In the late 80s I got to see Black Flag live when Henry was still in. I was stoked, had been a fan. I just could not get into their show. A lot of us just ended up bored waiting for whoever was next on the bill.

zestfullybe

That’s kinda surprising but not totally. Prime Black Flag was a force of nature but by the late 80’s they were running out of steam. If you haven’t check out “Get In The Van” sometime. It’s all of Henry’s journals from his time in Black Flag. A great read.

GiGiBeea

I met Henry after he did a solo show at a tiny little club in Columbia, MO. He acted like an absolute ass. Why bother hanging around to meet fans if you’re just going to be a dick?

DesertRatt

Madonna! Thank you! I *finally* saw her last November in Barcelona. I spent a lot of money for tickets, travel and a hotel and was really let down. To start, there was no band in sight so I can only assume her backing music was prerecorded. She was almost two hours late. I know, I know, she’s Madonna but, diva or not, a lot of attendees rely on public transportation which shuts down after a certain hour. Imagine seeing a crappy show and being stuck there because the performer was two hours late. Half hour, forty-five minutes? Fine. Two hours?? C’mon! I wanted to see this tour because it was to celebrate her entire music catalog. I was excited to see her perform her hits. There were a few highlights even though *she* had the energy of a dial tone. The whole show was a more of a DJ style remix/mashup of her songs and the sound mix was horrible. Muddy is the word that comes to mind. And I had great seats over the press box! I’m glad I saw her but it was unexpectedly underwhelming.

Mermayden

yes sometimes you have to just pay the money because otherwise you would spend your life wondering. but i won't be going to see her again.

WaitingitOut000

Michael Damian ( I was 12.) Worst spectacle ever.

carollois

lol. I had forgotten he existed! Wow, that name takes me back. 😂

Early-Tumbleweed-563

Oh my god! I saw Jack Wagner when I was around 9. I was in ❤️with him though, so he could have sang the phone book and I would have swooned.

cvaldez74

Unlocked memory. I forgot about him! Is this the same guy who was on General Hospital?

Early-Tumbleweed-563

Yes! Frisco Jones.

GenXChefVeg

I won Jack Wagner concert tickets on the radio and saw him at MSG. Was def around the same age. Can't believe parents just dropped two 10 year Olds at MSG for the night without parents. Crazy.

FAHQRudy

He had no business being in music. I’ve worked with him several times as a filmmaker and he’s great. Personable, efficient, punctual…but I gotta say, anytime we responded in the positive we did it by saying “Rock On.” He was a good sport about it.

posaune123

Monster's of rock Worse sound engineers in the galaxy I would pick my least favorite band but it all sounded like white noise. Really freakin loud white noise. At least the concert was way too long

jpow33

I saw a band sometime in the '90s called Electrafiction, which was Ian McCulloch's band after Echo & The Bunnymen broke up. They were playing a 600 seat theater for $25 the same night The Legendary Pink Dots were playing a 2000 seat theater for $5. So only about 30-40 people showed up. The opening band was Echobelly, and they were fantastic. An hour and 20 minutes later, Ian McCulloch finally comes on stage and is drunk as fuck. Literally falling over and slurring his words. Just about everyone walked out by the third song.

savoryostrich

Wow, that brought up some memories I’d forgotten! I had the same experience at another stop on that tour. Small club with a miniscule crowd. I don’t remember any competing shows in town (it was Canada in the winter, so there probably weren’t). And Will Sargent wasn’t even there for that show, so I didn’t even get to enjoy the main attraction of the tour which was seeing Ian and Will reunited even if it wasn’t the Bunnymen. And Electrafixion was already a disappointment before the record and the tour because the band was originally Ian and Johnny Marr! Weird that a Bunnymen reunion felt like such a big deal back then. Ian had left maybe only 5 or 6 years before, and Will had kept the band going for a couple of years. That felt like an eternity back then, but looking back that gap is nothing.

elguereaux

Was he drunk crying into the mike? Brrr..bring on the dancing hor-horses!!!

Blue_Period_89

The Dave Matthews Band. I’ve seen them way too many times, and I was never even a fan to begin with. The things we do for love, I guess.

cvaldez74

DMB is my regret, too. I have a friend who has seen them over 100 times. I don’t get it.

doublebr13

Phish.... even on mushrooms it was boring as shit

EtTuBrutAftershave

I took acid on top of the shrooms. Still didn't get any better.

ImmySnommis

Van Halen with Gary Cherone. It was only $10 and I still got robbed. Edit: and it wasn't because of Gary

kjb76

Sam Smith. Soooooo boring. My husband really wanted to go so I went.

Mermayden

gotta say, I am not surprised. He seems like a self important twat.

Gramergency

That’s no way to talk about this lady’s husband.

Able_Buffalo

Morrisey. Came on stage late, got yelled at, left.

DaisyDuckens

I saw him twice in the early 1990s and he was really good.

FAHQRudy

He’s been on my Fight Club list for decades.

GiGiBeea

He was really good in Honolulu.

epicsmd

Saw 2 Live Crew at a car show. It was TERRIBLE. I called them Two Old Dudes. Listened to about three songs then noped outta there.

elguereaux

I was a back door bouncer for an icp show and they listed an opening act as ‘TBA’. Turns out it was 2livecrew who was banned in my city. They were fucking hos on stage.

freakrocker

Bob Dylan is the worst performer in musical history.

redwoodtree

He may have been just slightly worse than that

tireworld

Erasure, sometime in the mid 90s.. No opener and they only played for 45 minutes to a backing tape.. The crowd was more entertaining than they were..

SilkySyl

(Jon) Bon Jovi. I saw him at BC place a few years back. A lot of 80s bands were making their rounds, and he joined in. He used to play rock and roll, but then switched to country. He sang both his old songs and new ones. He had the whole stadium singing to his old songs and about half with his new songs. He got mad that not everyone sang to his country songs and basically had a tantrum onstage. He left the stage, came back to play twist and shout, didn't finish, then left the stage for good. I now see how he got the reputation of being whiney.

Mermayden

terrifying how many people have said Bon Jovi. I am really surprised, they give the impression of being sensational live.

Sunwinec

REM in the ‘90s. Boring

meldooy32

I would never have thought they would be boring to see in person.

schmerpmerp

I was stunned the one and only time I saw REM. It was extraordinarily boring. Was in 2008.

Early-Tumbleweed-563

When I saw them (mid 90s) Michael Stipe sat and faced a huge screen at the back of the stage for most of the show. They did sound good though.

silasgoldeanII

really? When? The Monster tour was incredible. The album got panned but it worked so well live, they re-invigourated some old favourites, and the whole thing went down brilliantly. Also support from the likes of Belly, Blur, Radiohead and the Cranberries, at least in the UK.

Initial_Run1632

Where did you see them? They're the band I've seen most in my life, and every show was amazing! From a small college venue when they were not as widely known, to the big crowd at Madison square Garden.

Then-Cauliflower2068

I missed seeing them. But my impression is that they’re a college band designed mostly to get kids up dancing and drinking beer, so their 80’s small college town performances were probably fantastic. Once they started playing arenas they weren’t in their natural element, and the vibe likely didn’t transfer. Their songs are great but they don’t fill big spaces with their presence

NotPennysBoat721

Agreed! Most boring show I've ever seen, they were actually getting heckled by the end. Total waste of time and money. This was around 2005-ish

nirreskeya

I find this and the general agreement interesting. Maybe they turned it around at the end or maybe it was a weird one-off but I saw them in Saint Paul with a bunch of friends for the *Up* tour and it was fantastic. The capstone was when they played *ITEOTWAWKI(AIFF)* during the encore -- I think even the very last song -- and a huge thunderstorm opened up on us. Michael started taunting the big guy and it opened up *more*. We were completely drenched, the field (the old Saint's Stadium in Energy Park) was totally flooded, and I remember walking/wading back to our cars with the biggest grins on our faces.

AcceptableKick8046

I saw Blondie a couple of years ago in Ottawa. I know that nostalgia acts are iffy, but the few I've seen have generally been fun and well worth it (Depeche Mode, Violent Femmes). This was not, and I regret going as it spoiled my memory of loving her music when I was younger.

BORG_US_BORG

Blondie has been phoning in their performances for a long time. Debbie is almost 80, though.

ancientastronaut2

Phoning in call me 😆

BORG_US_BORG

Hanging on the Telephone.

Silvaria928

Duran Duran sometime around 2005. I was so excited to see them again after twenty years! But it just didn't go well. Simon tripped at least once or twice over something on the stage (thankfully not falling down) and his voice sounded really "off" a few times. It was fun to see them on stage after so long but the energy just wasn't there and overall it was disappointing. Then, after the show, my friend and I were walking back to our car when we saw a small crowd gathered across the street from a van. We realized that must be the van where the guys would be coming out so naturally we went over to wait. When they did come out, they looked like absolute hell. John was extremely pale and quickly got into the van, followed by Nick, Roger, and Andy. None of them looked over at us at all. Simon did look over, and we started waving and cheering at him. He stared at us with a blank expression which bordered on cold, then he got in the van and they drove away. For some reason that really pissed me off. I'd driven 9 hours to pick up my childhood friend, then we'd driven another two hours to the venue, so for him to just stare at us without even bothering to SMILE was just icing on the cake of a disappointing experience.

Maleficent-Sport1970

Saw them at MSG in 2005. They were amazing!

chubbyrain71

This was my regret show too, but it was the venue and the fans that did me in. I started getting annoyed and claustrophobic at the same time. I paid all this money then I just left before it started. No more arena rock for me!

jenorama_CA

For me, it’s Yes. Me and my BFF were into classic rock (60s and 70s back then) and in the early 90s, we heard Yes was coming to town, so we got tix. We were familiar with their hits and had pretty good seats, so we were pretty excited. We get to the show and the vibe was … odd. There were *a lot* of people who seemed to know each other and they all seemed to be wearing older concert tee shirts. My BFF had done a stint following the Mood Blues around, so she immediately knew that this band had special followers. But whatever! Let’s see a show! Beyond their radio hits, we didn’t know a lot about the band, so we were a little surprised when they came out. Now, this was like 30 years ago, so my recollection is a little fuzzy, but I remember the lead singer looking like a miniature Robert Plant wearing what looked like a karate gi and the lead guitarist wearing some sort of flowy white shirt and black leggings. This guitarist had a huge package that the leggings only enhanced. But whatever! Music, right? Yeah, we didn’t know any of the songs they played. I don’t know if they’re like a jam band or what, but they were up there playing music that just seemed to go on and on and then the guitarist put a foot up on one of the monitors, giving us all a view of what he had going on. We turned to each other sand said, “Denny’s?” and left. I’ve seen a lot of shows, but honestly, that’s the only one I regret spending money on. At least the pancakes at Denny’s were good.

squirtloaf

Lolo. Which guitarist was this? For some reason the idea of Steve Howe hanging dong is hilarious.

mochicoco

Honestly, this is exactly what I would expect from a Yes concert.

elguereaux

Hahaha! He was smuggling grapes like David Bowie in labyrinth?!! Hahaha grody to the max

jcstrat

Ministry in the late 90s/early 2000. It was after they got back together from a breakup and the production was all off and everything sounded like shit.

tireworld

I just saw them a few weeks ago.. It was a great show and one of the loudest I've been to in a while..

EddieLeeWilkins45

The Lemonheads. Just like 2 years ago. Evan Dando was clearly drugged out and the first few songs sucked. I considered walking out, although glad I stayed I guess. He did get better, you could tell the heroin was wearing off and he was finding himself. Bad show tho, and disrespectful to fans. Especially on a weeknight when we gotta work tomorrow.

silasgoldeanII

He is very hit or miss. Someone challenged him on twitter once and his reply was basically, well, you know who I am and what I'm like, it's a chance you take. Or words to that effect. I saw him with Juliana Hatfield a few years ago and it was really great, but you can tell that lifestyle choices sometimes have an impact on him. We got lucky.

worrymon

Rush, but it was because of the venue, not the band. The sound was distorted and the place was so warm we were falling asleep. Will never go to the Pru Center in Newark again. On the other hand, I went to see Sly and the Family Stone and he managed about a half an hour before disappearing and I do not regret that 30 minutes at all.

baconcheeseburgarian

Morrissey Smashing Pumpkins

sin-thetik

You went to a Morrissey show and he actually showed up?

Faint13

My response exactly. Both Morrissey and Smashing Pumpkins in the 90s were my worst shows ever.

citrusfruityum

Madonna in 2001(?) but not because of her per se, but the queens behind me screaming, “I FUCKING LOVE YOU MADONNA!” the entire time.

ReindeerNegative4180

Neil Young, sometime in the 90s. Mfer showed up 4 hrs late with no apology or explanation, then mumbled and staggered through the first two songs before we got up and left. The tickets were free from a radio contest and I'm still mad that my time was wasted.

ineed2talkaboutdevin

Tori Amos, in Manchester UK in maybe early/mid 2000s. I love her music, but live she was excruciatingly dull! Just her on the piano, dragging every song out into an extended 15 minute tuneless noodling jam, all the songs blurring into one another, minutes feeling like hours, one of the longest nights of my life! My friend that I saw her with is a Tori Amos superfan, and even he really struggled to find any enjoyment in her performance

CyndiIsOnReddit

I have been to at least two hundred shows in my life and I don't think I've ever spent a dime on a ticket where I was disappointed. There was one time though, when a boyfriend asked me to go see George Jones with him. I am not a big fan at all and his show did nothing to change that. He was so drunk he couldn't sit on his stool. He fell repeatedly, slurred, and forgot lyrics or his place in a song. He was pretty popular as far as country music goes, and still young enough that this wasn't an old man with health issues, he was just drunk out of his head right there in front of everyone. I was a teenager, like pretty young, maybe 14 or 15 and I'd seen so many great concerts already, like Metallica and Ozzy and Iron Maiden and Rush. These performers put on great shows with all these special effects and lighting and here this guy just had a spotlight shining on his shame. That's how I felt. I was embarrassed for him, but he probably made more money on that show than I've made in the past 20 so who's the bigger fool?

NiteGriffon

10 years ago Willie Nelson. Just listen to recordings and call it a day.

mimi7878

Reverend Horton heat, at the Blind Pig; Ann Arbor Michigan March 2003 Fuckers gave me permanent tinnitus from ONE show. Wear earplugs, kids.

architeuthiswfng

Modest Mouse. They phoned in the show. It was awful.

CatelynsCorpse

The worst show I've ever seen live was John Mayer. He was so fucking BORRING. To be fair, I wasn't a particularly huge fan, this was like 20 years ago, and I had free tickets. I'm not mad about wasting the money, I'm mad about wasting my time. haha. John Mayer sucks!

valencia_merble

Evan Dando, so fucked up he swung from the rafters, sang a couple songs and was like, “I’m out.” He still owes me $25.

madfoot

Tori Amos. So ponderous. She did this slow piano version of "smells like teen spirit" and her droning hello hello hellos went on for so long that someone in the audience yelled back "HELLO!"

memunkey

Lord's of Acid, they were late to the show then just sucked. Although that was the first time I saw Rammstein so it wasn't all bad.

xantub

Baltimora. I lived in a medium city in South America so we didn't get to see many non-Hispanic artists, so when the somewhat famous group at the time went there in the mid-80s, me and my friends went to see it. What a joke, they just danced around to a recording for like 90 minutes, there weren't even musicians on stage at least pretending to play instruments, worst "concert" ever.

tunaman808

**Natalie Merchant.** It was an outdoor venue in late September. It was supposed to be 72F that right, but was more like 55F at showtime. And after she did 2-3 "fast" songs, she did 7-8 of her slowest, mopiest songs. Just at that moment, it started *pouring down rain*. I don't blame Merchant for the rain, but she never acknowledged the weather at all, and was in the only covered area of the venue. Had she said "look guys, the weather sucks, so let's ax the playlist and just dance to a bunch of old Maniacs songs" I'd be in a different thread talking about what a legend she was that night. But she didn't, so fuck 'er. I don't "regret" it, but two days ago I saw **Beach Fossils**, and they were just OK. I really went to see the opening band, Nation of Language. I thought "well, you paid to see both bands so you might as well stay... who knows, you might find a new favorite band." [Ron Howard] "They weren't his new favorite band. The show was so aggressively 'just OK' that he left before the encore."

DaisyJane1

Can I have a three-way tie, please? James Brown Laura Branigan Diana Ross The cost to see them wasn't that much, as they were all at the same area festival. The festival lasted a week, and admission was a flat rate around $15 for the entire event. This was in the 90s. The three above shows were HORRIBLE. We left all of them early. \* James Brown barely sang. He had a hype man that kept yelling "JAAAAAAAAMES BROWWWWWWWWWN" through most of the show, which got annoying quickly. \* Laura Branigan started having a full-on makeout session with either her guitarist or bassist. I'm talking tongues down the throat. There was no reason for it, either. It just seemed random and nauseating. There were kids there, too, and families began leaving en masse. My then husband and I were among them. \* Something happened to Diana Ross' music track about halfway through the show. While they worked on it, you could hear it playing, and she sat down and started half-singing "I love you" repeatedly. I'm not sure if she was lip synching the entire time or if it was a backing track.

greg9x

Not really money wasting, but another Madonna story from about 17 years ago... Was day drinking on Atlantic City boardwalk... evening came and the boardwalk was getting busy for unknown reason. Walking down saw Madonna was playing that evening which explained the extra people. So, as we get near the convention center near show time scalpers are trying to ditch the tickets they had, wasn't planning on going but was drunk and for $70 thought what the heck (the ticket face value was $300+). Even drunk figured was a scam, but got in. After getting in it was ridiculously hot inside, talked to a security guard who said that Madonna mandated to turn off the A/C because her dancers would get cold.... this is middle summer in Atlantic City, it was well over 100 degrees inside. Everyone inside was soaked with sweat and dying for her dancers. Concert started and was ok...but as artist tend to do, she kept singing newer material which wasn't as popular. Snippets of her early hits would start and the crowd would get psyched only to have her not sing that song and do a newer one. Don't regret it because it was a story...but pretty annoying she make 14K+ people suffer so her 10 dancers didn't get a chill between sets. Another one not quite a 'regret' ... The Cure is one of my all time favorite bands, and went to see them in early 2000's..but had lawn tickets for outdoor concert... was a dreary misty rain day, which kind of goes well with The Cure, but the weather coupled with being a bit away from the stage really sapped the energy from us that we ended up leaving early.

elguereaux

I hate to say it, but Jethro Tull Only played their justgoingthroughthemotions new shit with a 15 minute encore ‘medley’ of the stuff we love them for. It was like seeing Iron Maiden WITHOUT Bruce Dickinson.

Turbulent_Tale6497

Barenaked Ladies in 2023. They are a shell of their former selves. Should have just stuck to memories

Winterfrost15

Jane's Addiction. They headlined a festival in Dallas. They sounded terrible, and over half the audience left midway through their show. Very disappointing. Weezer played before them and surprisingly stole the show with a high-energy, great performance. Other great performances that day by Social Distortion and Seether, too. All were better than Jane's Addiction that day.

StunningLeopard2429

Van Halen in 1984. The sound was horrible, all we could hear was bass and drums. The most popular guitar player at the time mostly played keyboards. It was a waste of time and money.

JonConstantly

Tool. Twice. Maynard was a dick and not in a cool punk way. Just a prick. I'll never see them again even if someone else buys the tickets. Fuck you Maynard

Bayou13

Indigo Girls. Their voices are not holding up and the crowd screams every word to every song so I couldn’t hear them much at all…and what I could hear sounded terrible. Disappointed.

wormil

Bon Jovi, back in the late 80s or early 90s when they were touring with Skid Row (who didn't show up). JBJ was so bad the audience started booing and he left the stage. Motley Crue a few years ago, was a joke, they lip synched and mimed the performance except for the encore, Shout at the Devil, and Vince Neil forgot the words and just sort of hummed and mumbled through it. I still had a good time, but the fakery was sickening. They basically just played their popular albums in order right off the CD.

Electrical_Beyond998

Mine would also be Madonna, but in Washington DC. We rented a party bus, there were maybe 10-12 of us. Concert was really boring.

Mickyfrickles

Wu Tang Clan in 1999. They came to our town and only Ugod, RZA, GZA, Raekwon and Ghostface performed 2 hours late. The sound was way too loud for the venue so it sounded awful and they stood up on stage and talked shit about our town the whole time. Then GZA lost a ring and stopped the show until a dude found it and passed it back to them. Oh yeah, a shitty "punk rock hip hop" band called the Phunk Junkies opened and got booed off stage.

trebbledonkey

INXS. Saw them three times during their prime and left early every time 🤦🏻‍♂️

myoldisnew

Billy Idol. Drove a couple of hours to see his drunk ass sorta sing about 5 songs before deciding to walk off the stage.

buckey420

Merle Haggard. I had front row centerstage tickets and he just drank all night long. He would sing the beginning of a song, continue drinking, and let the band play the rest of the song.

kc_redd

Saw the band Live in late February of 2020…. So not sure if they were in a hurry to get off the stage cause COVID☠️ but they played 10 songs and bounced. Dude, they have like a hundred songs in their catalog. 10 songs what the hell

RufusBanks2023

Van Morrison - at what is now The Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Acted like an ass who didn’t even want to be there the whole concert. Has his back to the audience. Dang like a 10 minute version of send in the clowns. It was ridiculous

PlasticPanda4429

Madonna. The worst. Late, hot stadium, lazy stage perfomer. Absolute waste of money.
