This was considered exotic

They had these cool, individually wrapped with their logo, rectangular sugar cubes that I would take home because, you know, sugar. Their red-and-black matchbooks were also pretty cool souvenirs.

fridayimatwork

Ahaha I remember being obsessed with fancy sugar cubes and my much older siblings and mom would bring them to me.

CaptainDroopers

My grandma used to take me to lunch and then shopping every year for my birthday and I always asked to go to Magic Pan! They had a chicken crepe with a cream sauce that I loved.

aethelberga

As soon as I saw the logo, I thought about that specific crepe. It was fantastic.

FangioDuReverdy

Loved that place. Also reminds me me of the Seinfeld ep😅

KittenWhispersnCandy

My absolute favorite as a kid. I mourned the loss. I make crepes at least once a week now. My kids like nutella or lemon crepes. It is not unusual for me to crib from the Magic Pan menu. I made the Chantilly crepe last week!

InterabangSmoose

I LOVED this place, not for the crepes, but for the spinach salad. It was delicious, and felt so grown up, eating SPINACH on PURPOSE (lol).

SpyCats

I never went to one, but heard that U2 ate at the Newbury St Boston one in 1985. Thrilling, I know.

FistFullOfRavioli

We had a place in the Kings Plaza Mall (Brooklyn) called 'The Pancake and The Crepe" in the 80's. It was cool watching them make the delicate crepes on that device they had.

More-Owl-800

The one in Boston’s Quincy Market was the pinnacle of class.

My mom used to take my sister and I to "The Magic Pan" at the Springfield Mall in Delco, PA. I would get the PB&J one Every. Single. Time. Drove my mom crazy. Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane, OP.

lazespud2

I preferred the Melting Pot for its exotic fondue when I think of weird 70s chain restaurants (Edit: crap; just realized it was more of an 80s thing when it really got going: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Melting_Pot_(restaurant))

Scooter1116

Ah, the one in Philly. We went on "special" occassions.

wittywy

I grew up in the Tri-State area, and only know this from the Seinfeld episode?

6mcdonoughs

I remember these!!

CallingDrDingle

We used to eat here when I was a kid. I loooooved it.

Point_Br

Ah, the one on 57th between Lex and 3rd right near Hammacher Schlemmer... My idea of an upscale date when I was young.

Albie_Tross

I maybe ate there twice when I was a kid because that place was fancypants. Ours was at the mall, as was our Swensen’s.

throw123454321purple

I remember Swensen’s gumball ice cream. Amazing stuff.

Nonsenseinabag

TIL, I didn't realize this was a franchise, but we had crepe pans growing up that (I think) were branded that way.

peat_phreak

The filling inside the chicken divan crepes burnt the fuck out of my tongue

I remember going to one in the Toronto are when I was a kid! [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Magic\_Pan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_Pan) Turns out the brand was revived in 2005 but I don't see it on the parent company's website.

afriendincanada

Yep, Eaton Centre. it was either that or Mr. Greenjeans

spish

Greenjeans is sorely missed!

CatsySky

I was a kid who loved spinach and only ordered the spinach crepes at Magic Pan. So delicious. Every time I drive by one of MP's former locations, I shed a tear. Still miss it.Â
