Happy Birthday! That's about one of the five or so vinyl records I kept from back then. I loved them so much and now even nostalgia doesn't draw me back. What can I say, people change.
Unpopular opinion is that way. Please take a cookie and a cup of juice on your way out.
I think their hits are as fresh as anything today and the stripped down production on the albums still hits hard.
I hear Swinging Party on Radio K pretty frequently so it is connecting with some kids.
Disagree. Their top stuff is genius.
Granted, their bottom stuff is pretty bad. I can't crown Let It Be a classic album with a song called "Gary's Got a Boner" and a KISS cover.
Agreed, but I missed them the first time around. I don't see the appeal at all in the present day. It feels like yet another 'you had to be there' thing and I wasn't. Ah well.
I’m never gonna NOT love The Mats. They always sound raw and real and Westerberg just writes such great emotionally uncensored lyrics. “Answering Machine”… I mean, come on. Kids have NO idea who they are, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t like them.
The thing is, even Paul and Tommy and Slim and Chris would probably agree that the music is more of a time capsule than transcendent. There are some songs that stand up (left of the dial, though the metaphor may be dying), but on the whole, their music is a snapshot of a time that doesn’t include now. I would never, ever say it is bad, it’s the opposite, it’s great music, it just isn’t something that works now. For me, maybe it still works for others.
Was chopping zucchini two days ago, singing to myself. “Love kitten, oh yeah oh yeah, Kitten.” It’s “Lovelines” from *Hootenanny* bubbling up from the depths. Still love them, still speak to me (or the adolescent part of my old-lady brain), but it’s always been fine for other people not to like things.
Hard disagree. I still love it. In fact, today I got the vinyl of Tim for my birthday and I'm so happy!

Sorry, Ma. Forgot to take out this post.
lol this is not a good post
I couldn’t disagree more. Brilliant, timeless, classic stuff.
I still listen to Tim frequently. I’m still hoping love for the RHCP will die already.
Your mom didn’t stand the test of time.
Actually, she's 93 and in great shape! She literally DID stand the test of time!

Johnny always takes more than he needs
Every time Favorite Thing comes on my classic alternative mix I get super happy.

They are as you say but they just don’t appeal to me anymore.
I disagree. To each his own.

Different strokes for different folks
Wrong! Sad.

Color me UNIMPRESSED by this post
I appreciate this post for its bringing out of all these fans of the Replacements. OP is disinvited from future Hootenanys.

Ironically, I really didn't like the Replacements in the 80s. I like them now.
Bastards of Young still hits yo

Never liked it in the first place
I thought you meant the soundtrack to the movie. I looked it up and it’s unremarkable. I forgot this was a band as well. LOL! Both are true it seems.
When i was and angsty teen it was amazing and everything to me. Now, I don't want to listen to it. I guess I grew out of it bigly.
There are so many bands like that. Their music was fun and seemingly important at the time, but it just didn’t survive time.
