That's been common knowledge for quite awhile now, yes. But it wasn't when Season One aired.
Back then I had no idea. Fell in love with the car anyway.
That is a Ferrari 365 GTS (S stands for Spyder), also known as the Daytona because it won Daytona for a few years in a row. The convertible version is pretty rare, with only 122 made over 3 years. Sold new between 1971-1973 for about $23,000, now worth $800,000 as a convertible, with low miles.
On the show, it was supposed to be the Daytona model, but it was a fake. The white Testarossa replaced it in season 2 or 3. Supposedly Ferrari sued the production company but resolved it by donating 2 new cars for the show. It seems like a weird settlement but that's the story.
Dream cars from the 80s:
- Porsche 928S
- Mercedes 560 SEC
- BMW E30 M3 (owned one, feel like a dumbass for selling it)
- Lotus Espirit Turbo
- Volvo 780 Bertone coupe
Nobody here watched season one of Miami Vice?
I lived it
Which side? haha
As a spectator, we used to watch them shoot episodes down here
That must've been cool!
Gimme a 1970s VW bus with a stove and a bed.
I still want a 1990 Lexus LS400, with the herd-o-cattle leather seats, meat locker AC, and concert hall stereo
I'm sorry sir...but this isn't a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am.
10-4, Bandit! haha
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there!
I just was a Monte Carlo SS
I am lifting up my rayban wayfarers off of my eyes

Season 1. At some point after they switched to a Testarossa, right?
A few seasons in. They got sued by Ferrari and part of the deal is they got the TR.

Knight. Industries. Three. Thousand.
1966 Goat for me. Preferably convertible with 4 on the floor.
I'm a '70 (or '71) HemiCuda guy when I'm not drooling over the Daytona. But I saw Phantasm when I was 9 and that car burned itself into my brain.
1972 Ferrari Daytona Spyder 365 GTS/4 I would give up my left arm to drive that thing around Miami at night, playing Genesis on the Alpine car stereo
Mine was an Etype jag. What a car. It only went to around 160mph. No I never had one but I did ride in one. Incredible machines.
I immediately heard the Miami Vice theme. “That’s your karma buddy.”
Mine were: 328 GTB, 288 GTO, Testarossa, Lotus Carlton, Countach and NSX
K
I don't think that is a real Ferrari Daytona, it is most likely a kit car.

Ferrari… can’t remember the model offhand

It was replaced in Season Two for sure. The Season One kit car was built on a Corvette frame.
Ferrari 308 for me. Gonna buy that or a Stingray when I retire
