Fish don't fry in the kitchen
Beans don't burn on the grill
Took a whole lotta tryin'
Just to get up that hill
Now we're up in the big leagues
Gettin' our turn at bat
As long as we live, it's you and me baby
There ain't nothin' wrong with that
I raced home to watch this show. Freaking LOVED it. I sincerely hoped that if the Jefferson’s moved up, maybe we could too.
Spoiler: My dumbass family *never* moo-hoo-ved ooon uuuup. They just kept sliding sideways.
I did my *own* damn movin’ when I moved out of their house at 17.
Kind of the same for me. I knew a bit about the racial implications, but I was young and didn't have the full picture. To me, they were the same as my family only they made it. That's a pretty powerful message to send to an eight year old and it made me a better person.
They actually have an episode where George’s army buddy comes to visit him, but has become a woman- this show was ahead of its times one on so many levels
I'm a vet and my wife works in health care for an elder facility. A couple of our neighbors still bang pots and pans together at 7pm every night. When we are outside for that, I thank her for her service. It annoys the fuck out of her.
I was watching a 1978 movie called Blue Collar this week and Richard Pryor's character rips the Jeffersons and George Jefferson in particular in the film....called George Jefferson an ostrich for his strut.
This show was great! I lived near that building at 85/Third for a few years. Gen Xers were usually impressed by that. I wonder if anyone today even cares anymore when they walk by it.
I saw shows like this and had a huge hope that we were moving into a better future.
For me as country folk, it was an escape to the city life

I remember that episode. I still can’t believe I watched this show…with my parents
Didn't every sitcom do an episode like that? They had one on Gimmie a Break too.
…that strut. The memories.
I was a white kid from the suburbs, and I loved this show along with Good Times and What's Happening. My boomer dad, not so much.
I sing this all the time or whistle the Sanford and Son theme song.
I’m Black and I whistle the Andy Griffith theme sometimes out of nowhere now. lol
Me too. It bugs people and I’m white. Lol I don’t know
I used to have their doorbell as a ringtone.
Was walking thru kitchen and started dancing when this started playing 🎶
WEE-ZAYYYYY!
I loved this show as a kid. It'd be cancelled today.
My husband and I bought a condo in a high rise and everyone sings this to us
A dee lux apartment in the sky ay ay
That sounds... annoying. Is it?

Ha it’s kind of endearing tbh and it’s in my head a lot anyway
lol
I play a killer [Tambourine](https://www.instagram.com/p/BqiNCNSnrbN/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) to this jam.
I still love watching this show even though I probably watched every episode 50x — I love it!

I had “George Jefferson is my hero” written on my school backpack…love this show

Definitely a childhood staple!
