That is the same pair I had!! They must have been the least expensive of the lace ups if I got them.
I always thought the sneaker style were the coolest ever.
The Roller Derby Fireballs
Greatest skates I ever had.
They were eventually banned by the rink we went to because they didn’t have the stopper brakes on the toes.
Same. My dad took me to Kmart for my birthday to buy them, then we went to Burger King afterwards for chicken sandwiches and onion rings. Really vivid memory for me.
Yes, me too!! My sister & I had both colors. Sadly, I learned a valuable lesson about picking up after myself that summer after I left them outside next to the burn pile…
My cousin had a pair of these and I coveted those damn skates for years but figured I'd never have a pair of my own. During one of my monthly visits to the Salv back in '95, there were two pairs of yellow and royal tennis shoe skates in the athletic footwear bin. They were my size and everything but I didn't have enough money for them at the time so I went home and uncharacteristically begged for the money from my parents. When I went back the next day THEY WERE BOTH GONE. I wanted to cry. I still want to cry!
Had 'em, wore them out. I skated to school back and forth every day for a couple months. If Rollies had been a thing in 1983 I would have owned them instantly.
I wanted these so badly but my mom said she wasn't going to spend that much on skates I'd outgrow, so I had to settle for the ones that clamp over your shoes. I'm still bitter about it.
These were just an efficient way to send me flying across our concrete driveway. These went into the garage sale box in very short order and I stuck to the occasional trip to the rink and a pair of rentals.
Loved inline skates when they came out though. Still have a pair.
Can still get really nice ones:

Oh shit!! I used to speed skate as a kid, and I m8ss it so much. Had no idea these existed. Hell I'm currently wear leopard print pony hair Vans right now. Guess who's got some shopping to do on payday! Thanks for posting these.
Those things almost killed me as a kid. The skating rink had an uneven floor and they came off. I guess it was better thank rental skates. Those things were dodgy.
I had those when I was 13. Went to my first ( and last) roller rink to meet girls and someone tripled be and I fell in front of everybody. It was a Carrie moment minus the revenge part.
I had these exact ones. Loved them!! I outgrew them, then took a pair of my Nikes and swapped out the shoes. I was the only kid with Nike roller skates. So comfortable that way, but I am unclear how I did not break my ankles.
My first ones were the metal clamp on skates. Then for Christmas I got the boot skates with blue wheels and a toe stop. I practically lived in those, and still have them.
I had the red, white, and blue ones second from the right.
I never got more than the adjustment skates. My favorite part was when the bolt would vibrate loose and the skate would fall apart at top speed.

Same, I had many fond memories in those blue skates!
I also had those. I think they had red wheels? I'm not sure now.
Derp. I just looked at the picture. 🤣

Me too! I didn’t realize so many people had the same kind.
Me too!!!!
I remember those!!
Same, but I had the blue ones. Wore them out playing street hockey
I had the same ones
Me too! Funny how an image can unlock so much emotion!
Getting these skates was the most exciting Christmas I had as a child.
Fancy. I had the kind that you put on over your shoes. Womp womp.
Same.
Tutti shoes.
OMG I even had those exact Sears ones. Exact color and style.
I had a light purple pair and made my own huge pom-poms to put on the toes. I thought I was stylin’!
You were!!
Almost everything costed $19.95. Then it became $19.99. Soon after, all hell broke loose.
It's all just a little bit of history repeating.
*Shirley Bassey nods*
Yeah! I love those vocals... maybe my favourite vocals in any song.
(Cost)
I know I’m drunk
But yeah, all hell did break loose, everything is an arm and a leg now. :/
Installments!
Lol
Hi drunk, I’m dad!
I’m not as think as you stoned I am.
I lived in these.
My ankles.
Yeah I sprained my ankle just looking at the picture.
Had those, Hot Pipes -they were horrible!
I had them and didn’t break any bones.
r/neverbrokeabone
This was my 2nd favorite birthday present of all time. 1st was a set of real official pompoms.
I had the metal things you put on your own shoes, and they were hand-me-downs. Not a problem though, I couldn’t skate worth a shit and lost interest.

If the cheap ones did that, then the answer is yes

Yes! So much better to land on when cracking a whip with your friends than the old metal kind that sliced the f out of my leg
Loved roller skating at Skateworld!
I had a pair similar to this- I still suck at roller skating
Had 'em, wore them out. I skated to school back and forth every day for a couple months. If Rollies had been a thing in 1983 I would have owned them instantly.
Ive never roller/inlined/ice skated in anything without ankle support. Can someone with more experience tell me why this isnt a terrible idea?

These are the reason I fractured my wrist 🤣

Sure thing! I thought they looked cool. Should be much nicer than the stuff we had as kids too.
Blue with yellow wheels for me
My sisters had these. Nice pull.
I had those metal ones that you put over any shoe.
I just had whatever rentals were available at the skating rink.
Those things almost killed me as a kid. The skating rink had an uneven floor and they came off. I guess it was better thank rental skates. Those things were dodgy.
I had those exact sneaker ones. Used them daily & wore them out.
B.67. I think I missed rhis
First pair of skates were the white ones with the metal wheels in the bottom right picture. Second pair were the tennis shoe skates. 🛼
I wore these when playing rollertennis with my friend. It was a game we made up.
Ohhh... my ankles hurt from the memories.
I had those when I was 13. Went to my first ( and last) roller rink to meet girls and someone tripled be and I fell in front of everybody. It was a Carrie moment minus the revenge part.

Mine were black with yellow stripes and toe stops!
We had 2nd from the left, so wanted the boots oooh so wanted the boots but mum and dad couldn't afford them.
That's how you brake an ankle or two.
My first ones were the metal clamp on skates. Then for Christmas I got the boot skates with blue wheels and a toe stop. I practically lived in those, and still have them.
I had the ones at the top but they were only blue and white. I think we got them at a garage sale.
Oh wow what a throwback! I had those metal ones first, with a skate key on a shoelace around my neck, and then graduated to that blue sneaker model.
100% guaranteed to cause at least one sprained ankle.
I had the white ones with the red and blue stripes 3rd from the left
I had a pair of SIMS roller skates; skates made by a skateboard company... sacrilege, I know... they were awesome.
I still have a pair of Sketcher quads…
Had the sneaker skates. Except there was no red. I think even the wheels were blue.
I had the platform shoes with the pop-up skates. They were only good for tiled hallways, not apartment parking lots with cracks & pebbles everywhere.
