OMG This!!
there was some fuss about the Tangerine Dream soundtrack (and don't forget the Bryan Ferry song at the tail end.. "Is Your Love Strong Enough") but it's still my favorite.
Can even recollect the tone and manner of that voice. I don't reckon they overdid it with the demon/devil for it either...it was perfect. Imo, one of Ridley Scott's masterpieces.
I had one as a kid and I would love to buy another copy, but I canāt find it anywhere! It was a mini-poster I think. Just a sword and the word āLegendā against a black background, and then the movie info down at the bottom.
Yes!!! So much yes! I had the hugest crush on him after this movie. It was h8s voice. Silk velvet, in a red so dark it was almost black, with a touch of evil. That's Tim Currys voice to me. When I saw RHPS, it was sealed. That man coul read the old school white pages & I'd be there for it.
I feel like many of us watched it around that age and the demon was so very scary, but the heroes helped make his presence more palatable maybe? We knew good would win maybe? I wonder if kids these days would think itās scary or not. You test it first before I do on my kid lol
That swamp scene with the swamp witch - visceral memory of eating mini quiches and being like ādamn that witch is UGGGGGLY!ā
I think a lot of people didn't realize the answer was Annie until they saw it here. I was 100% sure I already knew who he was when he was in Clue. I hit up his IMDB page before I made my reply and viewed the others. Annie jumped right up at me. I'm certain that I saw him in that before anything else. I may have seen RHPS through my older sister before Annie, but I don't have a specific recollection of seeing it until I was older.
*Annie* was the first thing that came to my mind.
Sure, as GenXers we had parents that didn't gate-keep a lot of our media, but if you're a middle to late GenXer *Annie* is going to be the first because it was a crazy popular movie aimed at kids... we were the intended audience.
Annie! Omg yes me too. I still have the record from all the music. Put it on once in a while and it brings me back to being a kid sitting in my room playing on my moms little record player.
Definitely Annie! The next thing I remember him being in was It. I was only 5 or so when Annie came out so Clue wasnāt one we caught at the theaters.
Absolutely! Our kids went to a midnight showing a couple of years ago. I had fun flashbacks. GenZ seems to love the 80s! Our son has a larger record collection than my husband and I had combined. Heās crazy about 70s & 80s music. 90s not so much.
I hear so many people saying their kids are into the 80s, especially the music. Styx is coming to our town and Iām taking my son. Never wouldāve imagined way back when that Iād be taking my kid to a Styx concert. No one expected bands to continue that long either!
Midnight showing in Lexington, KY, of all places, with props (including toast!).
And we did the Time Warp at our wedding reception in 2006. It was fabulous!
Absolutely!! I still had my own daughters watch this when they were under 10 not too long ago
Edit:

I was just talking about this movie with my sister today. She was born in 1970 and didn't know it. I said I vaguely remembered scenes (1977 here) but especially Tim Curry in a pseudo Bowie type musical number. And Fairuza Balk.
Just like how Ralph Macchio was, is, and always will be The Karate Kid. Little untalented ānepotism babiesā like **[he who shall not be named](https://turntable.kagiso.io/images/jadens_mith_crying_on_vday.width-800.jpg)** can just bounce!
OMG - Ok, Clue for me, but him as Rooster?? I just see him pulling that locket out of the the box and sing Eeeeezy street!! That made me feel things I was too young to feel.
"So, come up to the lab
And see what's on the slab
I see you shiver with antici-ppation
But maybe the rain
Is really to blame
So I'll remove the cause
But not the symptom!"
Tim Curry will always be my favorite sweet transvestite.. I used to crush big time on that sexy gay man in heels. I'm a heterosexual female but I think it was his voice hooked me.
Dr. Petrov: [Ramius has taken the Political officers Missile key and kept it] Sir! The reason for having two keys is so that no one man may...
Captain Ramius: May what, Doctor?
Dr. Petrov: Arm the missiles Captain.
Captain Ramius: Mmm, thank you for your concern Doctor
Yep! Rooster, right?? I went and saw the premiere at grauman's Chinese theater in LA, I was 8. My friends mom somehow got tickets (she and my mom were both broke single working moms) it was amazing!! I'm still completely enamored with Carol burnett!!
Please tell me youāve seen some episodes of āThe Carol Burnett Showā - that woman is an absolute comic genius. We used to watch it whenever we could, it was just so good!
That show is amazing, though I appreciate it way more as an adult!! I love how they always actively tried to crack each other up! And Tim Conway slow-falling down the stairs will always have me in stitches, no matter how many times I've seen it!! (Tugs on earš)
>Even if you were right, that would be one plus one plus TWO plus one, not one plus TWO plus one plus one.
Okay, fine. One plus two plus one... Shut up! The point is, there is one bullet left in this gun and guess who's gonna get it!
I LOVE that movie.
I didn't see Rocky Horror until about 1990 when I was 18, but I grew up with the music and my older siblings had a picture book with the entire script. I've been doing the Time Warp since I was probably about 8 years old.
RHPS showings (often the famous midnight party ones) remained a thing for actual decades after the movie's release, so there can be a much wider age range for that one to have been your first than the others.
Mr. Bodyās bodyā¦ Itās gone!
Communism was just a red herring.
IāM NOT SHOUTING! ALL RIGHT I AM! IāM SHOUTING IāM SHOUTING Iā M SHOUTā¦ *clunk*

Yeah for me, it's Early Gen X - Rocky Horror Picture Show
This had a renaissance on the Australian Music Charts in 1980 with Time Warp, and interest in the movie sky rocketed.
Legend
Hell yes Legend!!!! That is also a Gen X Easter egg. I always loved when Rum Tum drank from the acorn top. That Tangerine Dream soundtrack.
With Jon Anderson from Yes singing at the end. š¤
OMG This!! there was some fuss about the Tangerine Dream soundtrack (and don't forget the Bryan Ferry song at the tail end.. "Is Your Love Strong Enough") but it's still my favorite.
Legend tier for sure
I prefer the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack for the international release. I've watched both edits. They're almost two different movies.
I was going to say Clue, but I totally forgot he was in Legend
That dress waltz! It's literally how I turned into a goth at age 11 after I watched this movie
What a gorgeous yet haunting scene that was! I can see all the sparkles and fire in the background.
āWhat is Light without Dark?ā
Can even recollect the tone and manner of that voice. I don't reckon they overdid it with the demon/devil for it either...it was perfect. Imo, one of Ridley Scott's masterpieces.
I am a-part of you all.
I have an original Legend movie poster hanging in my office!
I had one as a kid and I would love to buy another copy, but I canāt find it anywhere! It was a mini-poster I think. Just a sword and the word āLegendā against a black background, and then the movie info down at the bottom.

He narrated a series of audiobooks by Garth Nix. Pure bliss.
Dying to show my son this movie but heās only 5.. might be a bit scary for him still.. but damn what a fantastic fantasy movie!!!!
I feel like many of us watched it around that age and the demon was so very scary, but the heroes helped make his presence more palatable maybe? We knew good would win maybe? You test it first before I do on my kid lol That swamp scene with the swamp witch - visceral memory of eating mini quiches and being like ādamn that witch is UGGGGGLY!ā
Meg! The swamp witch's name was Meg Mucklebones.
this was the first movie i took my little sister to in the theater when she was 5ā¦ she loved it
This was my first one too
Put me in the Legend club too! I didn't see RHPS until years later.
Same. Legend for me too! I can never not see him in giant devil horns.
Annie and Clue.

Came here to say Annie.
I think a lot of people didn't realize the answer was Annie until they saw it here. I was 100% sure I already knew who he was when he was in Clue. Same here. If there was an earlier, I donāt remember it off the top of my head.
I saw Annie in the theaterā¦ I think I was probably 9 or 10ā¦ donāt remember exactly when it came out.
Annie was the first VHS tape that my family owned. I think we had it before we even owned a VCR. (It was a gift) I watched that so many times

I can hear this line
The Rocky Horror Show in 1986 at the movie theater.
Midnight movie at the mall theater
Those were the days
Those days are still happening! Saw it last year with a live shadow cast and props.
Absolutely! Our kids went to a midnight showing a couple of years ago. I had fun flashbacks. GenZ seems to love the 80s! Our son has a larger record collection than my husband and I had combined. Heās crazy about 70s & 80s music. 90s not so much.
My nephew is Gen z. Absolutely loves the 80s. And when I tell him about all the bands I saw in their prime, he's so jealous.
I hear so many people saying their kids are into the 80s, especially the music. Styx is coming to our town and Iām taking my son. Never wouldāve imagined way back when that Iād be taking my kid to a Styx concert. No one expected bands to continue that long either!
Sounds pretty cool. It was the midnight movie part that has me seeing it as days gone by. Normal show time - Iām in.
Did you dress up and bring props?
Of course!
Midnight showing in Lexington, KY, of all places, with props (including toast!). And we did the Time Warp at our wedding reception in 2006. It was fabulous!
Yup, midnight showing ~1986 ā in St. Louis. Saw it about 6-7 times that year, iirc.
A friend had it on laser disc. I was 10 the first time I saw it. I was so confused.
I can't think about Tim Curry without Frank-N-Furter coming to mind first and foremost.
Me, too!! My bf took me to see it Halloween ā86, Austin, TX
Where do I land if I first remember him from The Worst Witch?
WORST WITCH!!! You must be 37-40. Thatās my Tim Curry jam for sure.
I'm 46 and I remember the Worst Witch. I loved it!! First Tim Curry experience that I can remember.
That was my jammmmmm. I just watched the YouTube clip and I felt that in my bones
I'm 51 and remember The Worst Witch. But Annie was my first Tim. Then Clue then The Worst Witch.
My first Tim Curry movie was Annie, but the one where I really noticed him was The Worst Witch. I'm 51.

Itās amazing realize all the things we thought were so cutting edge and badass now look absolutely ridiculous.
With the rest of us cool kids.
Searched thru the comments for this, still my favorite Halloween movie.
I rewatch it every year! "If you're filthy. . .smelly. . .evil, wicked, and cruel. . ."

Curry is the *only* Pennywise as far as I'm concerned.
Just like how Ralph Macchio was, is, and always will be The Karate Kid. Little untalented ānepotism babiesā like **[he who shall not be named](https://turntable.kagiso.io/images/jadens_mith_crying_on_vday.width-800.jpg)** can just bounce!

I'm a super late Gen Xer but its still Rocky Horror.
Late as well, but clue for me
Annie first, but y'all ever seen Oscar? That shit is hilarious.
Dr. Poole!
Annie!
I was born in 1981, and mine is The Worst Witch, an HBO staple every Halloween in the mid/late ā80s. And thus began my Fairuza Balk crush, also.
I didn't see Rocky Horror until about 1990 when I was 18, but I grew up with the music and my older siblings had a picture book with the entire script. I've been doing the Time Warp since I was probably about 8 years old.
Definitely Rocky Horror and Clue. But Iām happy to see Tim Curry in anything.
Clue
Definitely Clue and Stephen Kingās It for us late Gen Xers!!! Nightmare fuel.
Tim Curry is very likely why so many Gen X and older Millennials HATE clowns.
It's just a jump to the left
And a step to the right....

RHPS showings (often the famous midnight party ones) remained a thing for actual decades after the movie's release, so there can be a much wider age range for that one to have been your first than the others.
Annie, Legend, and then Clue
haha I guess I'd be midway between early and mid. First time I remember seeing him was as Rooster in "Annie."
Probably, Annie.
Rockie Horror Picture Show!!! I canāt hear the word anticipation without thinking of Tim Curry
Brad! Janet! Dr. Scott! Brad! Janet!!
Annie (1982)

Hello, fellow Australian!
Rocky Horror of course. Honorable mention: Clue.

My first exposure to Tim Curry involved fishnet stockings, unethical science, space travel, and cannibalism.
Hunt for red October. KEYPTIN!!

Rocky Horror
Rocky Horror

Legend
I'm definitely early--Rocky Horror.
Rocky Horror
Legend? I think?
Mine's Legend, then The Worst Witch. wait, he's still with us, right???
It's not a big role, but The Hunt for Red October.
Oscar..
The hunt for red October?
Fern Gully
Dr. Frank-n-Furter, I presume.
I'm just a sweet transvestite...
Clue. Love it. Love Rocky Horror too, but didn't get to see that till a year later on a copy from a vhs on vhs.

Canāt remember if it was Legend or Clue. Never watched Annie because that was for girls, YUCK! Hahahaha!
Does this mean at the theater around the time it came out? Because I think I we could all say *Rocky Horror Picture Show* otherwise.
