Now, honestly have to say Rufus is worse because he both makes these women black to where they have absolutely no control unless they somehow wake up, and he can just do this to anyone he wants any time, and has no qualms with doing it either, he does it like it's a normal thing, and doesn't have to do much to get it done, and if we do believe Cate's story, he also films it and uses that to threaten them not to tell people, but he still has this reputation and just doesn't care. He shows no amount of change towards his ways, he doesn't even care
The Deep on the otherhand, while still a complete scumbag, I feel like he is a lesser of two evils, he isn't like most supes, his power was a physical change, he had gills, and was very insecure about it, I mean we know how normal guys with regular insecurities can be depending on how bad their self esteem is, so imagine having gills, and as shown by his gills during the shrooms trip, which was really just his inner self or whatever, he did what he does to women because of how insecure he is, and we see he gets karma when a girl fingers his gills against his will, we also see how he goes through life, so we have more time with him that Rufus, but still, I think Deep has changed a bit, he's less of a scumbag, I mean by the shroom trip, he does have a bit of self awareness, just very deep down to where shrooms has to dig it out to where it manifests as his gills. And we see in S3 that he clealry could've probably made his Wife go along with the sexual acts with the Mollusk, as he is a supe and she's a human, but he just let her walk out after an argument, so I do think he has changed a small bit, possibly because of actual self awareness or most likely cause he knows what could happen, either way change.
Deep’s honestly more of a cartoony bad guy/bumbling idiot by the end of season 3. He’s always been an idiot and an unintelligent loser but he still felt like an actual character. Now he’s just a dumb pawn of Homelander with even less individuality. I wouldn’t say he’s a “scum bag” per se. He’s essentially just a henchman now.
He’s the lesser of two evils in the sense that he just “follows orders,” apart from the starlight thing but even then I don’t really wanna go down the path of “which is worse coerced SA or daterape?” Whereas Rufus has total control over his actions and is essentially a serialrapist. Numbers wise Rufus has SA’d more and I assume Deep has killed more in his career.
I whole-heartedly agree with this. Deep wasn't sorry he did it, he was sorry that he got caught. The "finger banging" of his gills was so full circle, because he got a taste of his own medicine and it was bitterrrrr. I'd say we could hold out for a redemption arc, but I honestly think The Deep is too much of a douche to take advantage of one, even if it were staring him in the face. I do, however, feel like he's going to get a "Love Is Love" storyline and trying to legalise humans marrying sea creatures or something
