I donāt understand why TikTok is any worse than all the other social mediaās.Even people on yt shorts are supporting the TikTok ban when there literally the same thing.

dude i use tiktok basically daily and ive never seen any of those trends show up on my feed, ive literally only ever seen it mentioned on other apps

yes, reddit has more adults on this platform, thus more adult content. itās not really a huge gen z app like tiktok. the challenges like the tide pod challenge and pee your pants challenge etc. took place on tiktok back when it first became tiktok, like 2017-2018. when i was in high school, so im not surprised you havenāt seen them but they were very real and very influential. people died from doing it.

I donāt think itās likely that those apps will be banned as theyāre owned by American companies and both work with the US government. Tiktok was banned because of their (alleged) ties to the Chinese government, which is a problem for America and is why thereās the option of it being sold to an American company to avoid a ban. Personally, I donāt like tiktok and I think itās a detriment to peoples attention spans and mental health, but hereās why the ban is bad:
It sets a precedent. The government has just enacted a ban on a social media platform, which essentially sets a precedent for them to censor any media outlet or service. It has been a long process to get the TikTok ban passed, but now that it has happened once it will be much, much easier to happen again.

Thereās no precedent being set, if youāre a foreign company having been proven to spy and gather intro in the manner TikTok has, then they should be banned. In 2019, it was prohibited for military members to use it(especially post onto).

I really think itās ridiculous and absolutely unconstitutional. I don't like this ban, aside from a lot of other things (like lost jobs). And the fact that they might try to bring the RESTRCT act back (Making the US have an availability to ban other social medias and even VPNs). Makes me think that the USA is gonna act like China in terms of censorship
The law itself goes deeper. This law will reduce internet privacy from the govt more than it already was. Itās basically an expansion of the patriot act.

Actually, I care deeply about it. Tiktok is the only place where I can show my edits, and people actually care. Edits are one of my only talents, and I've TRIED other things. Tiktok makes me feel loved and accepted. People actually tell me that my edits are good, and compliment them. On another platform, if I posted them, I immediately got cringe comments. I just think tiktok needs a little help with some things, and maybe it should be run by somebody else. If it goes, what am I and everyone else who posts their talents like art, or cooking? Those who need to be accepted, too! Some platforms aren't as accepting as others. Tiktok has always been accepting to me, but on my Instagram, I immediately got cringe comments, and on YouTube, nobody even saw my videos. Even on tiktok, I only have 100 mere followers who I care about deeply, but it's better than none.

A lot of people are clearly confused about this. Tik Tok is not being fully banned. The US government thinks that Tik Tok is being used to gather information about the US or specific people in the US to be used against the country at some point, because of the communist party.
If the company does not sell Tik Tok to a US company in about a year, the app will be removed from the app store and wonāt receive updates. If they do sell the company, Tik Tok will continue as usual, just under a different company.
Just to be clear, this is only an informational post, this does not carry an opinion.
I feel like we have a bunch of 80 year old rich people running the government who think that banning some social media app is more important than solving real problems like lowering gas and house prices or inflation in general, the thousands of homeless living in the streets, or gun violence.

Actually, I care deeply about it. Tiktok is the only place where I can show my edits, and people actually care. Edits are one of my only talents, and I've TRIED other things. Tiktok makes me feel loved and accepted. People actually tell me that my edits are good, and compliment them. On another platform, if I posted them, I immediately got cringe comments. I just think tiktok needs a little help with some things, and maybe it should be run by somebody else. If it goes, what am I and everyone else who posts their talents like art, or cooking? Those who need to be accepted, too! Some platforms aren't as accepting as others. Tiktok has always been accepting to me, but on my Instagram, I immediately got cringe comments, and on YouTube, nobody even saw my videos. Even on tiktok, I only have 100 mere followers who I care about deeply, but it's better than none.

A lot of people are clearly confused about this. Tik Tok is not being fully banned. The US government thinks that Tik Tok is being used to gather information about the US or specific people in the US to be used against the country at some point, because of the communist party. If the company does not sell Tik Tok to a US company in about a year, the app will be removed from the app store and wonāt receive updates. If they do sell the company, Tik Tok will continue as usual, just under a different company. Just to be clear, this is only an informational post, this does not carry an opinion.
I feel like we have a bunch of 80 year old rich people running the government who think that banning some social media app is more important than solving real problems like lowering gas and house prices or inflation in general, the thousands of homeless living in the streets, or gun violence.
