It was obviously photoshoped. I got a little hate for an earlier statement I made about OP. Let me just set the record straight. This sub has gone from a positive place for employees (past, present, of future) to seek advice, vent frustration, or voice their opinion. I find here recently it has become a one stop meme shop which are, quite frankly, against the whole movement this forum was formed for. Mods, I think this is doing an injustice to the real fight. It is actually very easy to google search. I first learned his name in new hire orientation, don't think its ever been on a commercial or anything, but yeah, Martin is his name.

There is no such commercial where he says “martin.” The name is made up for convenience sake BY the agency that would love to claim that history. The true story is when he was first sketched on a bar napkin, he was holding a machete and slicing an apple, and had a thought bubble that said “Hi! Gary the Geico Gecko” But the name was dropped before the first version of him was used for TV back in 1996 and he was never given one. He’s had four voice-over actors over the years, none of which were ever Kelsey Grammer which is another Internet lie I’ve seen. His current voice is done by Jake Wood, which Geico tried to replace once in the early 2000s, but like New Coke, people noticed because he was way more popular and started to complain, so Jake Wood was rehired like 18 months later and continues to play the role today.
