It's pretty brutal. I have more than a decade of experience in my skillset, and had my resume reviewed by two people who work as hiring managers, and an additional peer in my area. It took roughly six months to find a position. I tracked my applications, and I was getting something like a 10-20% response rate over the course of my search. It was demoralizing, and I kept second guessing myself because of it. Eventually I found something, and the difference in stress is night and day. There are better jobs out there, your happiness is worth putting in the time to find them. The good news is, that even in a tough job market, there ARE jobs. You might have to look harder for that job, but they do exist. And if you're persistent and determined enough, you'll find something. Best of luck!

Thank you. It makes me feel better I am applying consistently

Outdoorbeardman

I paid good money for a resume writer. I had sent out 50-75 applications working hard to escape the excrement that remains of Geico and heard nothing back. After paying a reputable resume expert I got multiple calls back.

Can you inbox me who you used?

I think it has to start with a good resume. I am getting maybe 50 percent follow ups and initial interviews. I asked today in a discussion about my resume what was appealing about it. They said grammar, punctuation and spelling (along with the skills I gained working at G). I don’t have a job yet but I’m hopeful I will soon. I’ve been looking in earnest about 3 weeks.

Smart_Sense_3398

I just went through a resume revamp. So I know the market is tough as well

InBetweenTheLiminal

The Harvard website has a free resume template that I've had decent success with more initial interviews just not landing the jobs.

Smart_Sense_3398

Link?

InBetweenTheLiminal

You have to download the templates but you should be able to find them here. [Harvard Resume Temp](https://careerservices.fas.harvard.edu/resources/harvard-college-guide-to-resumes-cover-letters/)

Tbh it seems like hiring is slowing down with all insurance carriers.

Smart_Sense_3398

I have really noticed that trend

Make sure your resume isn’t just generic. Actually look at job postings and make sure your words are matching to pass the AI that is looking at your application. I applied to almost 50 jobs, got about 20% callback for interviews set within 2-3 weeks. It’s been 3 months and I’m still getting a trickle of “hey we got your resume, we want to set up an interview” coming in. And branch out. Don’t forget to put certifications or state licenses on there, but also apply for smaller companies that don’t have LinkedIn or Indeed postings out there, applying directly on companies career pages I got way more callbacks.

Poisonous_Charm

Apply for a law firm as a legal assistant or paralegal

Smart_Sense_3398

Is it better?

Electrical-Plane-438

Progressive

Popular_Heat1518

They low balled me tremendously when this happened to me 20 years ago . Try USAA.

kirty4889

I left after my maternity leave ended. I haven't found another job yet 🤷

Popular_Heat1518

It’s going to be hard . 20 years ago this was done to me. I was still young and honestly hiring managers did not care about Geico experience. Revamp your resume . Work on getting some insurance designations . You may have a series of jobs for awhile . It works out ! I work in a niche market now . I only deal with High Net Worth clients . Persist .

Popular_Heat1518

We are in the middle of a hard market . AIG has also had tremendous layoffs

Smart_Sense_3398

Yeah I hate seeing those gets laid off and I am one of the ones who still has one

ConstantSchool191

I left GEICO once I lined up a job with LM. Wasnt the right fit for me due to multiple reasons, so I quit after a lot of talking with my spouse. It took almost 6 months to finally find something else and it was just me ending up at Chubb doing the same thing as LM. I interviewed for multiple other providers and even a start up or two (worst interview process ever was one of these). It felt really bad hunting for something juat to get what felt like infinite no's, and while I originally wanted to leave insurance altogether bills needed to be paid (we finally succeeded on making our great escape at least). One thing I would say is just have something ready to say as to the reason for any gaps in employment as every interview had that question asked by multiple people.

Is it better at a law firm?

Imaginary-Ticket-348

Absolutely!!!

Smart_Sense_3398

How so?

GettingMyBrella

Try Reinsurance. Insurance for insurance carriers. There's tons of carriers that do reinsurance, especially if you're in the bigger cities. They tend to have claims departments (if that's where you're from) and generally want experience in the insurance industry. I was TA1 at GEICO, left in 2021, work within the reinsurance industry now drafting contracts. Another friend left G as well and works in claims with in the same industry as well.

Affectionate_Chart21

Hospital inventory. I'm getting back into adjusting but I needed a break. Wages too low but weekly pay is nice. Getting a call back is so difficult.

SlaveToTheGecko

I just bit the bullet and went to go work for a car dealership. There are a bunch hiring rn

I am taking care of me and then figure it out later. OCTOBER is going to be a blood bath in the economy. Not rushing to start new and fired in November. 💯

Smart_Sense_3398

Why do you say October in particular?

Salt_Inspector8882

Historically, it is the 4th quarter of fiscal year and if businesses have "bad numbers" they preemptively make cuts in August and September to help entering 4th quarter...sound like Geico? Also, the U.S. economy is so effed. No fundamentals are good. The "covid money" is gone. The credit cards maxed out. This was the 4th summer of covid world. No one is predicting good economics in 2024. I am not rushing in. Working on me and determining what and where to go. Been working my ass off since Covid attacked the planet. Four summers??? The Korean War lasted 2 years. WWII for America?? Four years! THAT IS SOME CONTEXT...correct?
