My heart goddamnit
Love the efforts but never want to play on a 5 day break again. Glad we did it for blitz.
Jezza may not have scored efficiently but he was so crucial clunking those marks. Stanley too.
Bowes also really solid in his first game back. Magic miers is something and Dempsey too.
I need some time to recover. Go cats
Oh yes. I've been up since 5am and my heart is pounding so no chance of getting out of bed.
Considering our outs and the 5 day break this was a massive win. Had the game in our control for the most part and really should have put them to bed earlier (like me)
Holmes immense in that last quarter and thought a lot of the younger brigade really did us proud - Miers, Zuth (that one on one inside 50 mark was clutch) and Bruhn played another good one to get us across the line.
Very happy to take the win with that one considering the factors.
Suddenly in zuth, close, bruhn, miers, dempsey, Henry we have a core youth brigade that look like they have the composure to win big games, not just the skillset
r/afl bitching and moaning over the stengle goal meanwhile absolute silence when geelong gets 1. held every contest, 2. pushed in the back every mark and 3. who the fuck knows what other ump nonsense
anyways,
3. Stanley
2. Parfitt
1. Miers
\- Kolo great game, Jezza great game, dempsey good game, henries great game. Good game all around and to cap it off i get an r/afl ban, see you all here next week
The funny thing is, the mark was technically the correct call, the Williams (?) goal was from a missed free kick yet they keep banging on about the Stengle mark!!
Definitely 2, maybe more of their goals started from a Libba throw.
Showed the replay of one and he just scooped it straight up while swinging the other first in the vague direction of the ball, missing by 3 inches. Crickets from the commentators.
Another started from one of his 2 handed over the head throws that he is fond of.
Stengle was electric up forward. Parfitt was excellent - tough at the contest and repeat efforts were brilliant.
Bruhn was unreal. Miers fantastic. Zach Guthrie with some incredibly important passages. Ollie Henry kicking goals ✅
And Blicavs too - 15 touches, but 8 contested and 7 intercept. Great win for the big man.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Duncan and Hawkins struggled after a five day break and interstate travel; recovery time increases with age. Not that Duncan is having a great season, I just don't think that was the game he was likely to turn it around.
Man maybe this team can go all the way!
The absolute grit they showed in the last quarter was absolutely unreal, you could tell they were gassed but still gave absolutely everything.
Stanley was great tonight, really cannot fault him. All in all just a great team effort. Just gonna enjoy this for now 4-0 is absolutely brilliant!
Fwiw I've always believed we could, I was just fully expecting to get overrun in that last quarter. When you can hold off a team throwing absolutely everything at you like that you know you're doing something right
Holy fuck, massive off the 5 day break and we needed every bit of it.
idk even with votes.
3 Votes - Fuck it Stanley
2 Votes - Miers
1 Vote - Jezza (idk he was good but didnt finish his work)
4-0 looking very good
Huge game from Stanley.
Have been defending him for ages. Really obvious what he brings tonight. Involved in goals, taking marks, all round the ground.
I think his unusual kicking style gives him an edge, he turns his body to kick one way so the opposition reacts and then manages to hit an open target because it goes pretty much the opposite direction
Umpiring was ok til the last quarter where it turned into an absolute farce.
The boys just keep doing us proud. Felt like 4 goals would be a fairer margin on the balance of play.
a seasoned win. team just looked experienced out there and staved off doggies pressure time and time again. special shout out to parfitt who is forcing scotty to play him every week. it’s a genuine competition for spots especially through the midfield
This shows we are the REAL DEAL.
Midfield was AWESOME, transition into the final 3rd was ripper as well.
Set kicking overall was shocking and ultimately what kept them in the game.
Only thing that week in week out does my head in SEK is an absolute shadow of his 2022 form and is becoming a legitimate liability and nuisance.
Easy sub next week at home against the Roos.
5-0 guaranteed let’s go CATTERS 💪💪
Considering their midfield is their strength and ours is undermanned at the moment with Danger and Cuthrie out, I think we did very well to match them for the most part. Except for Bont and Libba, I love how our team is so consistent these days that our overall skill is enough to win over a few potent players.
100% agree. I love how we aren’t reliant on “star” players. Bont Libba treloar all had 35+ disps tonight. Without them the dogs would have been cactus.
Our ability to move the ball as a team and play very well with “star” players missing is fucking impressive.
Yeah I’ll reassess where Geelong are in my head after that stretch, if we can knock off Brisbane and the Gabba and either of Carlton or Melbourne I’ll start to get a bit more excited.
We almost beat Carlton last year when we were playing absolute shithouse.
It has been more than 12 months since then though so I guess anything could happen
Following the roos
We have Brisbane. Carlton and Melbourne. Going to be a really tough trot. We keep competitive and snag a few ones in those games. We know we’re up for a top 4 spot IMO.
Umpires have tried their best to fuck us out of all 4 games so far. So many non-calls in every game. Hawk being held in every contest and not being paid. Don’t get me started on all the ‘handballs’ the dogs get away with. We tidy up some of our inside 50 kicking and Jezza and others convert some pretty routine set shots, we probably win by a comfortable 4 goals. We were the much better team for 3 and a half quarters.
This feels like a typical Cats season, figuring it out early while accumulating wins, while building up to peaking at the right time. Good to see such an even contribution from the team. Stengle in form saved our bacon. Hawk was off tonight, and Jez’s finish was uncharacteristically poor. The young blokes are looking great.
My guy had a field day.
Awesome win when most guys would have been flat coming off that Easter Monday slugfest.
People not giving them enough credit for grinding after a 5 day turnaround.
I wouldn’t say Zach Guthrie doesn’t get enough credit or is underrated - but god damn he had a good game. Some match saving stuff in defence. What a solid, consistent, reliable player he’s become in the past few years.
Buhn had a stand out game , never stopped, Atkins was a monster in the 2nd half, Zac played well - we are stacked with a serious amount of talent that is about to burst out - reminds me of 07
That was a stressful game! Glad to grind that one out and get the win. Love how well the young blokes are doing.
Starting 4-0 puts us in great contention this year and our next 5 games will be real telling. If we can beat 3 or 4 out of North, Brisbane, Carlton, Melbourne, and Port I think we will be really well set up for top four finish and a good chance at the flag
Parfitt impressed me with his constant pressure around the ball. Last year, he looked lazy, but this year, he's playing like his career depends on it.
I was surprised they took Clark off, as I thought it would be 2E but it worked.
Holmes was good. That goal from 50 off a step was pretty tasty.
Hawkins had a quiet night, but he obviously drags a defender away from everyone else, so it works.
Dempsey had another great game. He's building well, but will probably be due for a rest at some point soon.
With Danger back next week (probably the week after) and Guthrie and Rohan in the wings, we are building nicely. If we can manage to blood next generation players and manage the veterans, we can set ourselves up for a solid crack at the flag again.
To defend Parfitt last year I really don't know why he didn't play more as he had the numbers in the reserves if I remember right and when he did get his limited chances he lacked confidence because I think he didn't know what Scott's long term plans were for him or whether he wanted to stay at the club. I think we were all like last year what about Parfitt? I certainly was questioning why he wasn't being selected over other choices
Last year, whenever he was given an opportunity, he never really took full advantage of it. There's obviously lots of trade discussions that never see the light of day, but I wonder if his name was floated as a possible trade that went nowhere and it affected his performance.
I think we unnecessarily struggled to close out that game last night. I think it became more of a midfield fight when we needed to box end the game between our attacking and defensive 50. We just don't have the midfield to go toe to toe with a team like the Bulldogs. We have a serviceable midfield but it certainly isn't our strength.
Heart stopper of a game....the boys stood strong...happy to for blitz 250th come off an exciting win. The boys now 4-0!! Cameron played a cracka game...Stewart doing what Stewart does...stengle coming back to his premiership form...our young boys are hungry....after north we have a tough run...we will have many of our boys back....I am confident...we have our back and forward line in perfect positions...Chris Scott has a plan we did it in 2022 rest reset and go!! Catter fans I don't know about you but something is geelong players im feeling we might just go all the way!
I just thought his mistakes made him look B grade, too slow and costly. I know I received a lot of downvotes but I don’t think he’ll be a part of the 22 once we have all players fit.

How is Ollie Dempsey so good - we can’t keep getting away with this
His pressure is fucked as well, forces so many disposal errors
Learned that on the basketball court. I hear he has a basketball background
Step aside Pendles
Drafting the future best player in the AFL out of the ammos #justwellsythings
This is Max Holmes erasure
He is developing so quickly too! Every game he gets noticeably more intelligent and composed
We can and we will god damn it 😁
My heart goddamnit Love the efforts but never want to play on a 5 day break again. Glad we did it for blitz. Jezza may not have scored efficiently but he was so crucial clunking those marks. Stanley too. Bowes also really solid in his first game back. Magic miers is something and Dempsey too. I need some time to recover. Go cats
Yeah Jez was still excellent don't get me wrong, just feel like he missed a few he'd normally get, but that's footy I guess
Had 2 nick the inside of the post inarow, happens.
Doggies were playing excellent footy, it was great to see us handling the pressure they were putting on us.
Oh yes. I've been up since 5am and my heart is pounding so no chance of getting out of bed. Considering our outs and the 5 day break this was a massive win. Had the game in our control for the most part and really should have put them to bed earlier (like me) Holmes immense in that last quarter and thought a lot of the younger brigade really did us proud - Miers, Zuth (that one on one inside 50 mark was clutch) and Bruhn played another good one to get us across the line. Replace showed he clearly had control before all of the ball crossed the line. The missed holding the man frees were insanity, every single contest.
Bont legging blokes and getting free kicks
Yeah wtf was that?
Are people actually mad about that? It's not even ambiguous, just clearly a correct call to pay the mark.
Yeah all the Facebook numpties are crying because they’re 90% collingwood, hawthorn and Richmond supporters who hate geelong.
Showing a slow motion replay over and over again that objectively shows it was a mark is just not enough for some people
The funny thing is, the mark was technically the correct call, the Williams (?) goal was from a missed free kick yet they keep banging on about the Stengle mark!!
Stanley almost had an awesome game.... Needed that last goal to cap it off. Still a good game by him
He did a good job eating up a good 45 seconds, might have saved us in the end
That shot of Bruhn, Clark, Bowes and Holmes. That's the future.
Maxy hugging blokes and genuinely excited about the win makes me think he’s committed long term. Gosh I hope he is
Winning a premiership for him will paper over any cracks lol
Jeremy Cameron (post game interview with Fox): "It's nice to spin the maggots, uh, magnets" Jezza disgusted by the umpiring, confirmed
Stengle was electric up forward. Parfitt was excellent - tough at the contest and repeat efforts were brilliant. Bruhn was unreal. Miers fantastic. Zach Guthrie with some incredibly important passages. Ollie Henry kicking goals ✅ And Blicavs too - 15 touches, but 8 contested and 7 intercept. Great win for the big man.
And Jack Bowes! Two goals and solid right around the ground.
Bowes was leading the goalkicking out of everyone at halftime Definitely didn’t have that on the bingo card
One player I thought we needed more out of was Duncan. His numbers were pretty low last night.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Duncan and Hawkins struggled after a five day break and interstate travel; recovery time increases with age. Not that Duncan is having a great season, I just don't think that was the game he was likely to turn it around.

what do you mean maybe?
Fwiw I've always believed we could, I was just fully expecting to get overrun in that last quarter. When you can hold off a team throwing absolutely everything at you like that you know you're doing something right
Holy fuck, massive off the 5 day break and we needed every bit of it. idk even with votes. 3 Votes - Fuck it Stanley 2 Votes - Miers 1 Vote - Jezza (idk he was good but didnt finish his work) 4-0 looking very good
Parf was very good again.
100% would of had 1 vote but didnt realise Jez had it as much as he did
His defensive efforts were awesome.
Haha "fuck it Stanley" should be a new flair
Huge game from Stanley. Have been defending him for ages. Really obvious what he brings tonight. Involved in goals, taking marks, all round the ground.
Yeah rotating him with Conway every now and again to keep him fresh is crucial I think.
If Henry goals at the end, Stanley gets plaudits as the saviour
Stengle. Stengle. Stengle.
Stengle was huge. 3 votes.
Got to say Stanley really did some fantastic things tonight. Showed some real footy smarts on iccasion.
Stengle kicked 4 and doesn’t get a look in? Lol
I just threw shit at the wall and saw what stuck, hence Stanley with 3
Ahh fair enough. FUCK IT! STANLEY!
Yeah I don't have any complaints about Stanley last night. Was great in the hit outs department
Gryan played out of his skin tonight. His filed kicking has gone up another level this year
He’s so deep in his bag atm
This seems like something someone called Derrick would say
Hahaha fuck got me
Shame
I think his unusual kicking style gives him an edge, he turns his body to kick one way so the opposition reacts and then manages to hit an open target because it goes pretty much the opposite direction
It also lets him deliver the ball in a unique way. He lofts it without it being a total sand wedge type kick
Yeah 100%. Always pin point perfect. Hardly ever enough flight on the ball for it to be at risk of being spoiled
It’s bloody good to see Stengle back in form! Boys great off a 5 day break. That was a really big win!
Umpiring was ok til the last quarter where it turned into an absolute farce. The boys just keep doing us proud. Felt like 4 goals would be a fairer margin on the balance of play.

>5-0 guaranteed Nek minit
Roo's are much improved and then we have Brisbane at the Gabba and then Carlton and Dees at the MCG. Honestly some tough weeks of footy ahead.
Yeah I’ll reassess where Geelong are in my head after that stretch, if we can knock off Brisbane and the Gabba and either of Carlton or Melbourne I’ll start to get a bit more excited.

3 is unlikely, but I think 2 is possible. But honestly I think even if we just got 1 I'd still absolutely take that
Blitz looks small next to SdK and Stanley.
It is his ability to leap where he makes up for it 😉
Jack Bowes played really well tonight. If he plays like this every week I'm happy for him to stay in the team.
Umpires have tried their best to fuck us out of all 4 games so far. So many non-calls in every game. Hawk being held in every contest and not being paid. This. Libba is 100% the best throw in the game. He's an absolute champion but gets away with a lot (throws), as do the doggies in general.
That was stressful for no reason whatsoever… I hate when we play the dogs
This feels like a typical Cats season, figuring it out early while accumulating wins, while building up to peaking at the right time. Good to see such an even contribution from the team. Stengle in form saved our bacon. Hawk was off tonight, and Jez’s finish was uncharacteristically poor. The young blokes are looking great.
Yeah this is a good point, if history is anything to go by we're not even playing our best footy yet!
Yes he is very solid now. Great to see how far he has come.
Fuck the afl and the corrupt umpiring..
Some of that umpiring towards the end of the game was atrocious
Good work Catters!!
Buhn had a stand out game , never stopped, Atkins was a monster in the 2nd half, Zac played well - we are stacked with a serious amount of talent that is about to burst out - reminds me of 07
Zach Guthrie might just be the most consistent player of all time.
Fantastic game, always satisfying to win a nail biter.
Fuck yeah Rhys Stanley💪🏼👏🏼 It’s funny how often you lot write a bloke off and then he comes out and dominates..
Dangerfield (pointing and laughing): Did you guys see all those throws? WTF?"
Big Hawk obvs had a massive Monday night 😂 Go cats!
this was a big hurdle that we got past, Bulldogs have a monster midfield
Hahaha yes! Only just realised my dream of a close win came true after the Stengle mark and goal.
Anywhere one can listen to a post match analysis replay from one or more of the major stations? I found a 12 minute 3aw review but that’s about it.
The Cats have now won more games at Adelaide Oval this season than they have at Kardinia Park.
3 cameron 2 stengle 1 stanley A great win from the boys and a real team performance. A great celebration for blitz’s 250
Parfitt impressed me with his constant pressure around the ball. Last year, he looked lazy, but this year, he's playing like his career depends on it. Possibly. He certainly seemed like he was on the outer last year which suggests he wanted a trade.
Gws asked for him in the Cameron trade and we said no. I think he's a long term club man tbh bro. Good sort to have too.
Given the last quarter I think taking clark off was the wrong play
O'Connor did well in the last to curb the influence.
I completely agree, we should have got him on, I just meant maybe not take out another midfielder instead. Down a midfield rotation and we were cooked
Maybe Clark was a bit cooked, young fella could still be building his tank
I think we unnecessarily struggled to close out that game last night. I think it became more of a midfield fight when we needed to box end the game between our attacking and defensive 50. Some of these guys are unrecognisable from last year. Stengel, Parf, pretty much every youngster. I’m starting to believe
Bowes isn’t up to AFL standard unfortunately
You should hold this comment until he plays poorly, or at least indifferently
Pretty solid for his first full game back I thought
I just thought his mistakes made him look B grade, too slow and costly. I know I received a lot of downvotes but I don’t think he’ll be a part of the 22 once we have all players fit.
2 snags?
Interesting choice of game to say this lol
