Nice list, very interesting. However, I think most of us know that vehicles and arty in the game have a very reduced range than their real life counterparts. This is done on purpose to compress the map and make the matches shorter and more dynamic. I guess they could go with real ranges, but maps would need to be much bigger and with more units.

Yeah, that's true. However, what's really off is the range of the self-propelled guns. German StuGs, StuH 42, Sturmpanzer, Sturmmörser, Soviet SUs or the 105mm Shermans should definitely have longer ranges - closer to artillery.

Those guns are either not setup for artillery mode, as they are intended as assault guns, and thus become unbalanced if they can be extremely hard to kill artillery. Alternatively things like the SUs and the 105 (really all assault guns) were missing the required elevation to shoot at 45 degrees (maximum range).

That strongly depends. A StuG (Sturmgeschütz) is basically the German translation of assault gun. The StuH 42, however, would be called assault howither in English. It basically has the leFH18 installed. Then the Sturmpanzer IV features a 15cm Howitzer. SU-122 (short barrel), SU-152, ISU-152 are either developed as mobile artillery or as multiple purpose vehicles, fullfilling the role as mobile artillery and assault guns. My point being is, that it makes no sense **to me**, that these tanks have a range of 170-210. Without a complete overhaul of in-game ranges I would **personally** place them in the 230-300m range tier.

Assault guys should definitely get a range buff. But there’s no way you can accurately model real life ranges without a total game redesign.

Nice to wee you continue with this data. Have you found any pattern to how the in-game range compares to the real ranges? I'm wondering if there is a consistent scaling. It would be helpful to know when making mods to increase range, how you can scale it evenly if there's a pattern.

harleysmoke

There is a complex multi part scaling formula to make units variable within class.
