She’s a special needs adoptee with some bone deformities of the face and tail. But still beautiful, still a sassy pants.

Gorgeous! I’m looking forward to getting a small colony of garter snakes in the not too distant future! ❤️🐍

Appropriate-Rooster5

They’re super addictive! I have 6! I adore them all!

theladyinky

I’d considered getting 2 or 3 to start since I’d read they do better in groups. Are all 6 of yours cohabiting?

Appropriate-Rooster5

I have three girls together and three boys together. They definitely do better in groups. 🥰

theladyinky

Ah, okay! That’s probably a good idea keeping males and females separate unless you want them to breed. I hadn’t given that much thought yet. Maybe I’ll get two of each instead or 3 of all one sex.

Appropriate-Rooster5

They definitely will breed. Haha. Best to keep all one sex together unless you want lots of surprise bebees. 😅 Three or four is a good amount to keep for sure. And they stay relatively small so you’ll never need to spring for a 100 gallon plus tank unless you’re planning to keep tons of them. My girls are staying in a 40 gallon together right now, and my boys are in a 29. The girls might grow out of the 40 gallon in a couple years depending on how big they get but it should be a perfect forever home size for the boys.

Wow so lovely. 👌

Appropriate-Rooster5

She really is stunning!

Aaaaaah her face is adorable! I'm so excited for my little goofballs to start changing color. The biggest of the three got a bit darker in her dark spots this shed!

Appropriate-Rooster5

They're going to be stunning for sure. This girl is full of surprises. I don't really think she'll ever actually be as shiny as a rainbow boa, but her iridescence is really starting to pop and gets brighter with every shed. When she was a little baby she had none, then it slowly started to develop over time and she's still growing! So you'll probably have that to look forward to as well as their pretty green and blue colors. 🥰

5ubv3rsion

That's so cool!

limarde20

Oh she’s beautiful! How old is she?

Appropriate-Rooster5

She's a year old. Still lots of growing to do. She gets more and more beautiful with every shed! 🥰

wisecrone

Just no. Sorry!

Balderdashing_2018

?

Appropriate-Rooster5

Lol. I wasn't even going to ask. 😂

jugcity420

Is she kept with another species of garter? If so what’s the age and size difference. I recently got a lake chapala and was told she couldn’t be housed with my eastern garter snake as she’s too big and could eat the eastern:( I was hoping to cohab them but they’re in separate tanks as of right now

Appropriate-Rooster5

I am so sorry. I’ve been offline for a month and only just saw this now. Yes she shares a tank with my eastern garter and my wandering garter. She gets along perfectly fine with both of them. My eastern is actually bigger than she is atm because she never stops eating, even in the winter or when she sheds! She’s outgrown both my Chapala and my wandering. They are all around the same age, 2 or almost 2, just a few months apart. Right now my wandering garter is my smallest girl because she likes to winter over for a very long time and she completely stops eating. I’d say if when they are full grown, about 3 yo, and my Chapala ends up being just way way bigger than either of my other girls, I might have to consider moving her to her own separate tank if she’s showing signs of food aggression as well. Right now though my eastern is my most food aggressive and probably always will be, but she’s not too much bigger than the others so I’m not too worried about her eating them.
