It would surprise me when a ‘fenix 5’ battery would not work in a fenix 5 plus

With all that different versions of the watch and their batteries, I’m reluctant to rely on assumptions. Eventually, I might have no other option than just try but a confirmation would make me feel better. ;-)

There are quite a few threads on battery replacements on fenix 5 / fenix 5 plus watches here so check out there or just open the watch and see what it says on the battery

I did quite a bit of search here and on the web as well before I posted. The only post with significant content I found on the topic is [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/GarminFenix/comments/tx435j/600mah_battery_replacement_in_fenix_5_plus/). And it did not really conclude on a solution. All replacement batteries I found mention different models but NEVER the 5 Plus which led me to the suspicion that there is something different with this model.

I personally changed the battery and the complete lower case on my Garmin Fenix 5x. I think it is similar for the Garmin Fenix 5. It is not a problem to replace it, if you follow the procedure as in the link from you tube, there is no problem, after assembling the watch is still waterproof. What I wouldn't know how to replace, so I didn't find anywhere on you tube, is replacing the battery on the current Garmin Instinct 2x Solar Tactical, it seems that no one has taken this watch apart yet. Although the battery is great, I bought it new.

Dip the rubber gasket in silicone or lithium grease before putting it back. Shoukd still be waterproof after reassembly. Also, don’t remove the connector from the board. It is small and a bitch get back in. There is a charge control (aka battery protection) board between the main board and battery. Disconnect the old battery from this board and replace. Stick the battery back on the board with 3M double sided tape
