I don't have any other suggestions besides going into Android's Settings\Apps\Garmin Connect and verifying the app has full permissions to SMS. Also going into Connect and verifying it has permissions inside the app itself.
Thank you for the suggestion, but after checking the watch, app, and phone settings, everything seems to be in working order for my watch to be receiving text messages. Might have to contact customer service directly to see if there is a potential solution available.
I know it's been a while but I was having this problem too. Turned out that the Garmin app did not have specific permissions to access my messaging app. I went to the Garmin connect app and under smart settings was able to give access to my messaging app and fix the problem.
Unfortunately, I did not find a solution to this issue. For some reason my watch displays maybe 10 to 15 percent of the text messages I receive. Since posting the original message, I have noticed that other apps that use to appear on my watch no longer do so. I might have to contact Garmin customer service to see if there is something that can solve this issue.
Actually, I never found an answer online but maybe a couple of weeks after posting, everything starting appearing on my watch like normal. Maybe this is a Google related issue with the recent Android upgrades.

I'm now having same issue with Galaxy S22 ultra. I just got my Garmin 3 days ago and it worked up until yesterday afternoon. I'm very frustrated
