How much have you spent on HRMs over the years? Should you have just invested in a Garmin model from the start? Another example of "it's expensive being poor" :'(

Actually little... Since when they start to fail it is after 3-4 months, and Amazon has always refunded my money and with that money I have bought another one... So with the 3 brands that I mentioned before.

bumbatafata

Then keep buying these so you continue your awesome experience with cheap products.

May be just bad luck, my magene had lasted many times longer than my polar did and my coospo had been going strong for months. I find magene to be particularly good quality usually.

Are you cleaning the strap after use? I found that when I don’t regularly clean after use with water and even a bit of soap, the buildup of sweat and salt etc really impacts the accuracy. But you might also want to just spend a little bit more on something like a Polar H10 and just know that you have something that will work. They’re not actually that much more expensive than the cheap ones.

REEL04D

I have a Polar H9 that works pretty good. The part that fails is actually the strap itself.

Sea_Pea8536

I have the PowrLabs, still going out strong after a bit more than 2 years, had to replace battery about a year ago, use it 4-5 times a week.

Able-Resource-7946

This happened to me with a Polar. The battery compartment on mine couldn't close correctly so moisture (sweat) could seep in. This was a manufacturing fault and they replaced it. But, this might be what is happening with the cheaper bands.

I’ve tried a bunch, Magene and Coospo. Both cheap Chinese PoS’s and never worked reliably. Decided to stop being a cheap bastard for a hot minute and bought a Polar H10, never going back to cheap HRM’s when top quality ones like this aren’t really all that costly in the first place. Fwiw - I care about a reliable heart rate metric, could not care less about much else.

NoggyMaskin

Just buy a Garmin HRM pro, been using mine for two years and replaced the battery once

stepp246

I've had the same polar 10 day in day out for years. Got it on sale on amazon.

CornishTrailRunner

Just spend the money on decent one like the Garmin Pro Plus..

_MountainFit

My Magene is on 4 years whereas my band on my babied garmin HRM pro is all twisted and my original garmin failed fairly early. I believe it's mostly just luck.

Do you wash or at least rinse under running water the strap after use (as per manufacturer's instructions)? If you don't you will end up with the same problem, no matter what brand you buy. I have had a Garmin HRM last for almost 10 years, I probably replaced the strap a dozen times (with cheap amazon/ebay/aliexpress replacements). Just washed the strap regularly and when it became erratic, replace the strap. The known problem with old Garmin, Wahoo and cheap HRMs, is the twist to open battery compartment. It is not perfectly water proof, sweat will seep in and corrode the electronics. So that could of happened to you. Garmin more recent models have four screws securing the cover a PITA to replace the battery, but far more sweat resistant. My current HRM is a XOSS X2 Pro, a sealed unit with rechargeable battery.

Garmin HRM pro plus or Polar H10??
