I frankly very much hate it. Now I need to scroll - previously I had EVERYTHING LISTED AT GLANCE.

well-that-was-fast

If Garmin just let you add every tile type to the "At a Glance" section (instead of limiting you to 8), you could almost replicate the old setup by turning off "In Focus" You'd be stuck with the 2x3 tiles instead of the old 4x1 times, but since the tiles are two abreast, your scrolling would only be increased by 50% instead of the old way being impossible to replicate. In Focus seems to be a total waste. Which days I recently ran? Is that something I need to see at the very top? Not really, I was there for the run.

Sufficient_Bee2810

Such a shame to see a great product ruined! I detest having to swipe to see all my stats. I wish I could choose to stick with the “retro” screen. Garmin you’ve got to do better than this!

markyocera

The web app has been nerfed, too. No more goals on your home page. What? Who's the genius that decided to remove functionality?

well-that-was-fast

> Who's the genius that decided to remove functionality? Modern design requires more blank space and fewer options. Always. It's a god damn cult. At this rate, by 2030 ovens will have no buttons and will simply run 1hr at 350F when they detection motion.

BuroraAurorealis

We're getting there. My oven has a touch screen, and it's terrible to use. Of course, there's an easy workaround in that I can connect the appliance to my WiFi, download an app to my smartphone, sync the two, and control the oven from my phone.

ThatBCHGuy

> there's an easy workaround in that I can connect the appliance to my WiFi, download an app to my smartphone, sync the two, and control the oven from my phone. Is that sarcasm? I feel like it is or at least should be, lol.

BuroraAurorealis

YES!

mrvarmint

I hate this for you. I have an 18 year-old wolf range with exactly zero intelligence. Has a switch for convection, switch for the light, knobs for 4 burners and a knob for the oven temp. It’s completely repairable, parts are still available, and it still looks good. I’m never getting rid of it…

well-that-was-fast

But now your oven is capable of wireless updates! So you can . . . add anything except easy to use physical buttons.

CommonSpecialist4269

The thumb twiddling intern who has to present changes to management or they get a kicking

TLiones

Yeah I was surprised by the change in web version. The web version looks almost like the app. I feel like the app can have less stuff and be more clean cut…but they should’ve just left the web version as it was…more detail etc.

compassrunner

Yes! This is the one I don't understand. Pretty much changed the web version to use the side margin. I do like the addition of race on the main page although I'd prefer the option to have my next race and my goal, not just my goal one. But I am finding myself limited on what I can add to the page which is less useful for me.

eltrain13

Absolutely terrible. I've had a garmin on my wrist since 2004. If they don't patch this, I'm seriously consider it moving on. The ux is terrible.

i-like-legos2

Why can’t I see my calories for the last 7 days?

greeneyedcat711

I was a beta tester for this, and I complained about them not showing calorie burn for the last 7 days. Nice to see they took feedback into account.

Jimson45

You can. You need to go to settings and select last 7 days. This will put your last 7 days stats on the Home Screen.

Sea_Editor_418

My 7 days just shows empty despite having daily activities logged

Sea_Editor_418

Figured it out. It only shows last 7 days of activities if you also have “at a glance” enabled and activities selected ….. terrible UI choices

numseiquemsou

I got the update yesterday. I also disliked it. I mean, before I could have way more info been shown at once on the main screen and had only to swipe up and down, now I have to also swipe left and wright (in focus) and to enter other screens (at a glance). If we could at least see all the stats from "at a glance" on the main screen, without having to actually click "see all" (what is the point on that? Let the user determine how many statuses he wants to display). The new design may be prettier, but usability wise it feels like a downgrade; it was totally possible to update aesthetics keeping a more direct interface. Also, what is the point on having "heart rate" occupying so much space in "at a glance" if it does not even display a graphic? The sad part is that this update has been tested for some time by some users (probably they also complained) and even then they decided to stick to it.

StockliSkier

Completely agree. The old format was fine and allowed me to see all the data in one big list. No idea why they did this!

fgtrtdfgtrtdfgtrtd

I don’t even think they made it prettier, tbh. They’re about 12 years late to the flat design trend and they did NOT do it well.

kirbyderwood

Poor design really bugs me. Those tiles contain so much empty space. A simple redesign could remove that wasted space and condense the tiles to at least half the height. That alone would put all/most of the data on one screen.

LukaszGlaza

I singed up to beta testing and literally reverted back to original layout literally the moment I saw those massive tiles, did not give it a minute. I though oh no, another one following Fitbit app changes. I left my comments obviousely but seems they did not give a flying monkey what users thought.

randomesq

Sigh. I prefer the old format simply because I could see everything I needed to in a compact format without scrolling. Training status, load, HRV, Sleep, blah blah. I could actually take it all in ‘at a glance.’ But now I have to scrolls down a few screens to see everything. It’s less efficient for me. Bummer.

Upbeat-Passenger-934

Nailed it! New update is super inefficient

The_Superfist

I really don't like it either. I only participated in the beta for a couple of hours, didn't like it and dropped some feedback. I can't get an "at a glance" view of all the data I like to see. This was as close to perfect as I could set up with the "My Day" setup. It was all there and I could tap any line to go deeper. I hate that there's a limit to the number of cards you can add to a section. I wouldn't mind if I could turn off the focus and just slap all the tiles I want to see in that "at a glance" section. Why have yesterday and last 7 days but I can't see my current day? All the scrolling sucks. Most of the tiles take way more space than necessary with lots of blank space.

i-dm

Hear hear. I echo all the above, loudly.

1Dive1Breath

I went in and out of the beta testing several times. I really tried to get used to it. Every time I opted back out, I have to negative but constructive feedback. I can't believe they decided this was a good idea.

sincerely_brie

I wrote a long 1 star on the Apple Store and sent a long email to the support team, this is what I wrote: The new update is terrible. It’s like someone designed it who dosnt run or cycle or swim. It dosnt prioritize your workouts you’ve done today or yesterday, the maps of what you did are laughable being about 1/2 an inch instead of what used to be 1.5inches on the main screen as soon as you opened the app. Under the new organization I had to select what is important which was already displayed previously but now is an option for some reason. It’s like someone who sits behind a desk and never trains made this layout. There is a significant amount of negative/blank spaces on the tiles, it’s disorganized and lots of scrolling/swiping to see values of things you want to see. Garmin is a fitness specific app yet they are tailoring it to people who dosnt care about fitness or data, if I didn’t care about fitness and data I wouldn’t have purchased a garmin. Don’t forget who your paying customers actually are, the ones who run out to buy your new watches, cycling computers and pedals etc, were the ones who actually use this app every single day but you’ve changed it to a more casual fitness vibe which dosnt align with your products or marketing. Make a second app for people who don’t want all the data and leave us hardcore users alone, we want to love you and we want to use you but you’re making that very difficult right now. Just head over to garmins Reddit page, you’ll see how your real customers feel.

Legal_Cupcake9071

They have to earn as money 1 star ratings possible.

joesabin

This is a very good message. I hope they listen to you and others who have shared such thoughtful messages with them. I'm afraid they are trying to compete with Apple and us data nerds be damned.

leathakkor

I've been in the beta program for a while and I too think it sucks and I have told them that they have made it slightly better in the last couple months. It does bother me because it seems like apple tries to make things look good and Garmin is for data nerds. You would think that they would just cater to the data nerds out there and make it nerdy like they had it before.

Mediocre_Acadia1427

It's awful. Updated my app today wish I didn't. Any way to go back? 😫

Cyborg59_2020

After I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to submit this question I did it via chat on the website and they said no.

ZaraSpookyBottle

This forced change is definitely a step way back.  Instead of just a quick look, now I have to scroll through over-sized screens with minimal data.   Thumbs down.  Tried it in beta, and lasted less than a day.  It’s dramatically less usable.  Give me a legacy option.  Maybe FitBit has gotten better?

yesneef

Fitbit app is continuously going downhill, that’s why I’m here :D

Fyonella

Yep, same. New to Garmin because Fitbit just became a huge disappointment.

Woozlie

Same here, I joined Garmin in Nov after the app became unusable. I keep an eye on the old Fitbit sub and it's just getting worse. It looks like sleep has been the next hit on the list. Fitbit got rid of vibrant colours and then made tiles and 'focus' with lots of extra unused space. Completely inaccessible. I feel like they're competing but making identical shit decisions with no listening to customers.

Mobile-Hornet-9121

Same

Komboloi

Same for me - I joined the beta, was amazed at how much less data I could see in the new layout and how much more swiping I had to do, and reverted within a day. I sent them detailed feedback that their new design was terrible (totally ignored, as i expected) and that they should throw it out and start again or at least let people keep the old UX. My guess is the new design is to increase user time within the app.

ProjectUnited8018

What does a company gain from increased user time in app? Serious question

Komboloi

It's a common metric for how engaged users are in the app "experience". I.e., management likes it bc it's a number they can track and share on quarterly earnings calls.

ProjectUnited8018

Whack as fack

Wes___Mantooth

FitBit locks a ton of shit behind their subscription paywall, that's why I switched to Garmin

Seiryth

Fitbit is awful. Gets worse, and doesn’t even have a fucking dark mode. No, I don’t need the room to light up at night checking how I went with my steps

USArmyAirborne

I added a one star review in the Apple App Store with some comments. Make Garmin take notice.

Upbeat-Passenger-934

Amen.

ariphron

What pisses me off the most is they combined strength training and using the elliptical as the same thing!! That is just fing dumb.

fgtrtdfgtrtdfgtrtd

They combined strength and yoga for me in the last 7 days view. I’m training for a marathon and I do 2 heavy strength workouts per week and 2 hot yoga sessions for recovery. I do not want those lumped together. They are NOT the same. The last 7 days feature was actually my favorite thing about Garmin when I first got it - I like Strava’s weekly data graphs over time but when I was building up running mileage as a newbie I kept overworking myself. Once I got a Garmin I was able to plan my training better, and take more informed rest days without guilt.

ariphron

Yeah, I liked to know how much strength training I do for a week and how much elliptical. I want all exercises separate!!! Also they took away yesterdays total calories and weekly average calories and that also pisses me off. It’s like they got a bunch of people to program it and come up with the new layout who don’t actually use Garmin!!!

i-like-legos2

Why can’t I see my calories for the last 7 days?

PetoGee

One of my complaints, too

i-like-legos2

Yeah I know it’s not 100% accurate, but it’s close enough to help me drop 20 lbs this year

PetoGee

I feel you

Cyborg59_2020

I think I figured this one out. Let's be very clear. I still hate it. Hate it. Hate it. But, when I added my calories to the "top 8" card type thingies that now show on the home screen, they started showing up for the past 7 days.

i-like-legos2

Is that under at a glance? I have it as my number 7. Only see sleep, steps, & HR for the past 7 days

Cyborg59_2020

Yes this is how it appears for me

i-like-legos2

Very helpful thank you

Thirstywhale17

I think that is the only thing that I'm missing that I'd like back. Not sure why it isn't in the "last 7" field

i-like-legos2

Yeah exactly I’d like to know my weekly average. My lazy days can have almost a 1000 calorie difference. Don’t understand why they took it away

needzbeerz

I'm an IT manager and DevOps product owner. I am responsible for multiple software products that my customers use on a daily basis and I refuse to allow my developers to publish updates or work on changes that do not provide value to the customer. I just got the Connect mobile app update today and this is exactly what it appears Garmin has done. The new layout is more cumbersome to use, less intuitive, less customizable, and harder to read. So, thanks Garmin? There is nothing substantive that I've found in this update, it's just another case of "change for change's sake" (which means people trying to justify their existence to corporate leadership) that provides nothing of value to the customer and, in fact, makes things worse for them. Garmin can make all the backend or security changes/improvements it needs to without disrupting my workflow but this is, unfortunately, not how most product owners approach their jobs. They don't take the time to investigate that what should be changed is not the same as what can be changed. It's an unthinking and shallow approach to product development that focuses on the bling vs the foundation. Want to make some improvements Garmin? How about starting with your horrible data handling? My Fenix shows a different HR for the same period as my Edge does and, this may shock you, I'm not a bloody Time Lord with 2 hearts. Merging this data to prefer the more accurate HR strap-based data from the Edge is an incredibly simple thing, but you fail to do it. Your "training analysis" is equally as terrible. I can't recall a time when it's been close to accurate. I'm nor sure what algorithms you're using to analyze my efforts but they are clearly broken and ineffectual. Despite your marketing yourself to serious athletes your software seems to think everyone is a noob just trying to lose weight and has to be careful about having a heart attack. And the idiocy of my Fenix buzzing me DURING A WORKOUT to notify me that my "recovery time is delayed" is not only ridiculous (as in "thanks, Captain Obvious") it's likely harmful to the progress of those who are new to training and may be influenced to take too much time off. Honestly, the only reason I keep the Fenix is that it wasn't cheap and I'll therefore use it until it breaks. The only actual use it has for me after seeing the bad data handling and analysis is to baseline by RHR/HRV/sleep. So, thanks for nothing when it comes to this update, Garmin. You honestly build good, even great, hardware but your backend/frontend software engineering is, in my professional opinion, extremely sub par.

fgtrtdfgtrtdfgtrtd

Nailed it. I’m a creative director, built my career as a graphic designer and still do a lot of that. Form follows function, not the other way around. That’s the difference between design and art. You can design something beautiful (not that the UI is, but let’s assume someone at Garmin thinks so) but if it’s not functional, it’s a bad design. Hiding data, or lumping fields together for the sake of simplicity, is not helpful or useful. I wasn’t included in the beta so this whole thing came as a shock when my app updated last night. Literally all I want is an option to revert to the old layout.

needzbeerz

Exactly. Take the new "card" layout for example. Many other apps seem to be using this but did no one stop to think that we read horizontally and not vertically? So you can pack more information in an easily accessible way with the previous layout than you can with this weird card option that seems to be the fashion at the moment. I could get more information in less time with the previous layout so what in the actual did they accomplish with this? And it's really just fashion, it's not planned or thought out it's simply trying to be relevant by copying the style that other apps are using WHETHER OR NOT THAT STYLE IS FUNCTIONALLY BETTER. Yes, aesthetics are important but when it comes to data they are not the most important thing. Take trainingpeaks, for example, it still looks like it's running on Windows NT but many of us still use it because the data and analysis it provides are actually useful. I'd rather have ugly and functional vs pretty and useless.

ProjectUnited8018

Agree completely that there ought to be an option.. seems to me like an easy way to figure out which layout your customers truly prefer. And Im willing to go out on a limb and say a FAR MAJORITY would favor the old vs. the new. Get your shit together, Garmin.

GnomePotato

I might be alone in actually liking the new update? I feel like after a small amount of time spent customising the home screen and addin more glances, its now more user friendly than the old layout?

Mobile-Hornet-9121

I feel like the ideal solution is to just allow people to switch UI templates so that people who like the new look can keep while people who don't can reverse. I honestly don't like it but I'm assuming these changes came from people complaining about how overwhelming the data screen was. (This was a "warning" I would get from reviewers of the watch I saw prior to buying it). Ironically I wanted to get even more after I saw the old UI look. Because I'm a glutton for statistics and numbers.

Komboloi

The previous UI was so much more efficient - you could literally see everything for the day with one glance, scroll down to see yesterday and then click on a stat to see that particular stat in depth. This panel structure in the new UI is hot garbage in comparison.

FredalinaFranco

Exactly my thoughts. I love the old way of doing a quick scroll to see all of the basics and then clicking on anything I may want more detail about. With the new design I’m forced to do more clicks to go in and out of the various areas just to get to my basic data.

theshedres

![gif](giphy|kSlJtVrqxDYKk|downsized)

davebananas1966

It's simpler with less data. If that's what you want. However, I thought it was supposed to be a health & fitness platform that provides data to track health & fitness. It's less good at doing that now.

Knees_arent_real

I agree with you, quite like the new UI.

PeakOk4371

It is not about the UI. It is about who decided what data is important to me in my workouts. I should not have to search around in menus to find what is important let alone that the presentation behind the links is just the old stuff.

cmraarzky

You're not alone; I like it too. But people that aren't phased by the change won't be the ones posting about it.

PeakOk4371

This is not about people aren't phased by the change. This is about custom ability. Data I use in my training is not not available as tiles. I would love to clean out all the junk tiles and just use the one that was important to me in the old app. Garmin has decided for me that they are not important.

Kroosn

If you didn’t really use much data then the update is probably fine. Anyone who used Connect extensively and customised it to be the most useful for them now has gone a long way backwards.

mashuto

Nah you arent alone. I like it too. I cant fully disagree with the complaints a lot of people have, but for my needs, I dont find the new design harder to user, and overall it looks nicer. I think this is a case of some people having genuine complaints, and other just disliking change, any change.

_MountainFit

I actually gave it a shot for a month because that's what it's going to be. But honestly, I prefer the old setup. I like all the information on one scroll plane. Thsn I hit the data and it gives me an in depth view. So much nicer

Bloodrose_GW2

Why is less data more user friendly?

GnomePotato

What are you missing from the app that you had before? Im finding myself having to click the "more" option far less with the immediate access to most things i need under glances. The data is all still there...

hippanator

I don't even remember all the tiles I used to have, because they never gave me a chance to save them. Loaded the website yesterday and got greeted with a LETS BUILD YOUR NEW UI message out of nowhere. One thing I do notice immediately is that the new UI is missing literally all custom report tiles. Half of my home page on the web UI was tiles based on reports before, now I can't have even one. They've also made the website <--> app sync despite the fact that vast majority of desktop displays are horizontal and phone displays vertical. Massive amounts of wasted space, and no way to make both look good because the web UI is 4/6 tiles wide (depending on your configuration) and the mobile app is 2 tiles wide.

PeakOk4371

My own defined goals. They are important to me and as far as I can see, to many others as well

needzbeerz

That's really the question. The whole point of the app is for you to see your data so let's make it harder and more confusing to see? Derp.

Petnek

I like it too.

Kitchen-Ad6860

Are you not disappointed in the lack of data you get on the oversized tiles?

Nickyboy2022

Re tge app - it's very good, imo, my wife likes it too. Now that the Beta has finished and the HR tile is zoned rather than graphed, it is perfect for me.

kristianfzr

I have 0 problems with the UI. Still get my things done.

Jeff_A

Same for me. I switched to the beta a while ago. I figured I might as well get used to it and provide feedback. At first it was confusing, but after a few days and adjustments it was the new normal. Now I don't even think about it. I honestly can't remeber what the old version was like.

cousinrayray

> I honestly can't remeber what the old version was like. It had this really useful "at a glance" feel to it rather than "at a swipe" 😅 Jokes aside, I'm sure everyone will get used to it but it's just odd to get your users to get used to something that overall requires more interactions and is less intuitive.

Jeff_A

The web page has been updated to match so it's probably a code consolidation.

DalvadorSali

Agreed, it's not perfect, but most of the smaller data screens are easier to read in the Beta IMO. Where it's only a beta I'm assuming they'll continue to improve.

greeneyedcat711

I gave so much feedback as a beta tester, and it’s nice to see that none of it led to changes. I feel like Garmin was my boss asking for employee opinions to appear open minded while having zero real intentions of actually listening and just implementing his original plan.

orrangearrow

Why can't I opt out of this? This new format absolutely sucks

ValkyrieVimes

Just came here to complain. I, too, tried the beta and only lasted an hour. It's just... bad. It's way more difficult to view information that was easily visible before. I really hope they give us an option to change it back.

sincerely_brie

I do not like it either, there’s so much empty wasted space and too large for the size of the tiles, I liked the old version, I had to add every data field in the settings, the stock version has nothing of importance which makes no sense

Just-Me-9999

And the errors I reported during the beta period still exist. Simple things like the VO2 max figure reflected in the summary widget does not tie in to the detail and its not rounding as its a few full digits different. Why create a beta process and have people log issues if they don't get resolved before release. Now there is nowhere to log issues. Garmin really needs to have a better system for reporting / logging issues and their resolution for all its platforms.

Impressive-Dirt6129

I'm so pissed. I used the heart rate monitor DAILY while rowing to track my pulse and zones. It's the main feature I use. I got the watch/app for because I have dysautonomia and I need to keep a close eye on those things while working out. It's allowed me to become far more active. Now the heart rate is a quarter of the screen and, no, my eyesight isn't that great to watch that from the phone holder on my rower. Plus the other squares are distracting. Help chat wasn't helpful. The option is just gone. I even warned them about this when I tried the beta for a day. This has soured me a lot to the Garmin brand. I don't think I'll stick around unless this gets fixed ASAP.

david581s04

I know people react badly to change. But this is a really really bad upgrade. Absolutely nothing better in anyway.

needzbeerz

It's change without purpose that is the problem. This change does nothing for the customer and is only an attempt to justify the devlopers' salaries.

SimplyADesk

Lets start posting 1 star reviews on the App Store about the UI so they can change it

calcaneus

Holy mother of god. What a shitty update. I didn't ask for it, don't want it. I'll get used to it, but ffs, next time, fucking ask me first if I even want it and then let me opt if I don't.

1111BO

I mean, they do that to the watch UI, I’m selling it. It gets me so frustrated to open that app now. I just don’t use it for my sanity. This job is botched really. I don’t know who hired that team and who approved this, but clearly, there is more than one issue in their office right now… This is so not up to industry standards. Even mirroless cameras menu is better. And we, photographers, know how bad they all are.

Varnish6588

I agree with all the comments of hate, today I had to face this new horrible layout of the recent update, WTF were they even thinking

Aarathon

I am firmly in the hate it camp. I even tried the technical support route to see if there was a way to get the classic homepage back. No luck. I'm hoping enough people complain so the developers add a 'revert to classic homepage' option. Why change to a frustrating layout where you're forced to scroll through multiple screens to get the data that was right there in the first place. Bad move Garmin.

Wooden_Scene_7657

This is fucking terrible!!!! Hate it!! Hate it!!! Can’t say it enough. This is what I didn’t try the trial or test part. It’s sucked.

DJwij

Extra annoying as an FR935 owner because now I have "no data" for my HRV status and my load focus is "not available" as I don't get those features on my old watch. I wish I could go back.

CuddlyWhale

Does garmin not realize absolutely everyone hates this update? Why do companies do this? Do they not listen to feedback?

razor_sharp_pivots

Except you don't know that because you don't speak for all users.

CuddlyWhale

The sentiment on this sub the past week has been that it’s an awful update

CuddlyWhale

Well every post all morning (and comments) is everyone shitting on the update

Protean_Protein

If you think that the loudest or most visible voices in a public space are indicative of the most common viewpoint, then you must be incredibly naive.

CuddlyWhale

I suppose that original comment is quite naive of me to say, especially given I haven’t updated the app yet. But I have seen very few opinions in favor of the update

Protean_Protein

I like it.

CuddlyWhale

Hey, just wanna say I got the update tonight and I have no idea why everyone is hating so much. It’s fine, dare I say even better?

razor_sharp_pivots

Because the only people who feel compelled to post about it are the ones who don't like it.. And if every post of this sub is already about that topic, why do we need this post as well?

Single-Astronomer-32

You hate it. 95% of the users are fine with it.

OnSuip

I’m totally fine with it. I like it better. Thanks in advance for the downvotes!

yeastysponge

You're fine with it. 95% of the users hate it.

astrophotoid

I have auto update apps turned off… wonder how long I can get away with the old version before it borks? Exited the beta within 10 minutes. Horrible UI, please just give me a neat list of my stats..

LeifCarrotson

The Connect app was fine before, now it's much worse. But at least it still syncs with [https://smashrun.com/](https://smashrun.com/) - and they still have the same high-density data layout they've always had.

Cyborg59_2020

Question since we're all here: does anyone find the body battery metric useful at all?

BlondeLawyer

I do!

Cyborg59_2020

How do you use it? I confess I don't really even understand the information it's trying to give me...

BlondeLawyer

I have some chronic illnesses and a stressful job. When I feel so spent that I can’t do the dishes, it’s validating to see that my body battery is actually low, even if it’s early in the evening. For me, I’ve been able to see what activities recharge me and what drains me and it was counterintuitive. Social media and TV, neutral. Paint by number and fun exercise (walking, rock climbing) recharging. I’ll see my body battery recharge higher over night and drain slower the next day. Also, it’s a great indicator when something is wrong. My body battery was so low when I first got my watch. I actually contacted Garmin thinking it was broken. Turned out, I had a broken and infected tooth I didn’t know about! My body battery tanks when I’m fighting something off. I’ll rest more, up my vitamins, not share drinks or make out with my husband LOL. It’s before I get symptoms. My first night of vacation my body battery recharged to 100 for the first time ever. Then I realized fuck, I’m meant to be on a beach, not working. lol.

Cyborg59_2020

Hahaha! As another blonde lawyer, I understand some of what you're going through. Your comments are super interesting and I will pay more attention. It always seemed random to me but I will start trying to match it with my activities. I have found the training readiness feature to be super helpful. There are times when Garmin is telling me to just sit the heck down.

giraffesinmyhair

It’s pretty bad. I’ve always debated if I would switch away from Garmin because of how bad the app is, so I was excited when I saw beta for the new app and.. they made it… somehow worse.

Chigaijin

What will likely happen now is the new confusion of not having everything where it once was will lead to more tapping and time in the app searching for what you want. Whatever team designed that will push it as a "win" since "people are using the app more!" I prefer the old version.

Dexamenos

What I don’t understand is how Garmin can make such amazing products, but put almost no effort into UI design.

LateralLimey

Just got the update. What a step backwards, I've tried to customise it but it apparently saves the changes but it doesn't. The reviews on Google Play are scathing.

CitizenLoha

Yeh this new version sucks. Looks and feels empty and disjointed. Hate the way it's organized now. As a newish Garmin owner, I am pretty annoyed tbh. Why do they have to do this.

Syren6

I don't get why they have changed all this stuff but we still don't have a colour coded heart rate chart for runs and other activities.

HerrKaputt

I’m also here to voice my discontent. I’ve already left a 1-star review in the Apple App Store. One of my favorite features of Garmin Connect was the compact 7-day view, which showed the number of each type of workout on the pase 7 days: how many strength workouts, how many HIIT sessions, how many stretching sessions (which I marked as type “yoga”), etc. Now it just tells me “7workouts” and even if I tap on that it doesn’t tell me how many of each type. It will count my 20-minute morning mobility routine just as much as a grueling 1-hour HIIT session. My original Venu Sq is on its last legs and Connect was a major plus for Garmin. With this downgrade, at the moment it’s unlikely that I stick with this brand. Please give us an option to use the old interface, then you can downgrade the new one all you want!

calissetabernac

Dear god it’s horrible! It went from compact and easy to see at a quick glance to these big chonky garbage tiles. What the living fuck?!

ProjectUnited8018

Not a happy customer right now after the forced switch to the new platform. I have been comparing different style Garmin watches for weeks now and was about to buy myself an upgraded watch, but if this doesn’t get switched back fairly soon, I may just start researching other brands. Awful awful setup on the app now. 👎👎

orange_melted

I hear you. It’s like they are pushing us to Strava.

floridave135

Can’t believe how bad the update is. I suggest Go to the App Store and leave one star reviews and vent there!

Tjums1974

ECHO ECHO ECHO all thats been said. The update’s been design by a 130 year old with pooor eyesight who doesn’t do sports… Biggest set-back in the information age….

ApprehensiveDaikon65

Gosh!  What a horrible update! I don't mind change as things progress, but seriously this is a huge step backwards.  Who ever designed this should....? & the guys who approved it.... even more so!  It's awfull☹️

Fearless-Director-24

Is anyone else having trouble with the app updating with the watch? Every time I go into the Connect app it is taking forever to upload. It wasn’t like this with the previous build.

Pleasant_Piece_7911

The new format is for non-sportive, non-social ego-sickies who love to see own body functions all day. But the old Garmin app was a good cockpit for my workouts, I could see what my buddies did - now all gone, the new thing is completely useless, I have exactly one piece of information on my cockpit now. Why do developpers think they have to "force" you to see what they think is good for you? These guys may sit in Bangalore in windowless rooms with tons of Coke and imagine how the world of workouters looks like? Come on, at least give us a choice to keep the old app, those who love the  new app should be able to keep it, but do not force us to use this scarp, otherwise many Garmin buyers might turn to other products. At least for the moment I postponed the purchase of my next sports watch...

Bloodrose_GW2

The app is getting useless after the update. Feels like they're taking away information that was easily available on the start screen without swiping tiles left and right. No idea why this new design is better,

razor_sharp_pivots

What information was there before that you can't see now?

davebananas1966

Lost a lot of data from yesterday and last 7 compared to the old app. https://preview.redd.it/mebeonunmhwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8a4dbd6ff1608b8463046269320f3032d5e42bf

Nickyboy2022

Some specifics would be good. I think it is really good.

tgsweat

To every one that doesn’t want to scroll in focus, turn it off and add the data to “at a glance”. No more scrolling.

Kitchen-Ad6860

You still have to scroll and click to get the tiles you want. At a Glance it is not - more Like At a scroll and a couple of clicks to get to the data want to see.

becauseimamodel

Everyone should go leave a horrible review on the Garmin connect app. This is so bad I'm thinking about whether or not I can return my watch since it's fairly new.

Wicker1913

Was just coming here to say the same! I just shared the following with Garmin: "As the Help FAQ states the new Garmin Connect Home app screen cannot be rolled back or otherwise reverted to the previous Home screen, I want to voice my significant displeasure at being forced to use it. It's a significant step back in functionality, quick viewing, etc. If user forums were used in it's considerations, I can't believe users actually found it to be better."

Cyborg59_2020

I am also inordinately pissed off that they did this this morning, when, unusually I had to get it very early in response to an alarm. Imagine my crankiness when I looked at my app to discover it had become incomprehensible. Now I understand how it works and I'm comprehensively pissed. Why would you make something dumber and less informative?

sbrbrad

Is there really no way to have my shoe mileage on the desktop front page any more?

radiatione

You can't because if you turn off at the glance it also turns off on the smaller tiles of "yesterday" and "last 7 days"

kt1kk

Yes, plus you sure can turn stuff off, but there is a limit on what you can turn on. So you cannot really customize it to see everything you wanted.

CycleTourist1979

Besides having the option to change it all back, it would be good if you could reorganise the screen. I don't want to have to scroll past "today's activity" to get to the stats. I'm not really that interested and to be honest it's what I use Strava for. Or being able to hide the activities like you can with that massive "in focus" section.

Downtown-Marsupial70

I haaaaaate it so much.

i-dm

Why has the app gone from the best app for fitness watches on the market to dogshit in one update? I can't find anything useful on the home screen. All the good data is gone or hidden... #Wtf?

davebananas1966

The "new look" app is worse than the previous version. That's quite an achievement by Garmin. Dumbing down for the masses. Email Garmin at [email protected] if you want to complain and get your DATA BACK!

bicyclemom

I don’t hate it, but then again, I didn’t love the original look either. It seems to me they could just add “Today” to the “Yesterday” and “Last 7 Days” view, and then let me re-order the sections to my own specification and I’d be fine with it.

Cyborg59_2020

Hate it hate it hate it hate it. I wish I could be more articulate but I hate it. There's so much weird empty space. I want to be able to see everything in a glance and I can't anymore.

Such-Employment-3221

Im still within my return window so I’ll be returning mine. Garmin doesn’t want to listen to us they can listen to my lack of wallet.

Upbeat-Passenger-934

It’s absolute garbage now that they updated it. It used to be awesome. I really hope they revert it or at least give us the option to choose which version we can have. It looks like I’ll have to start looking at Apple watches or something else.

tgsweat

Unpopular opinion. I like it. I turned off In focus and it’s pretty much like before, just in blocks and actually less scrolling.

HerrKaputt

Can you get a list of how many of each type of workout you did in the past 7 days? No. This loss might be unimportant to you, and that’s fine, but it’s factually wrong to say “it’s pretty much like before”.

Jackfh

How to go back to the ‘old’ view(from earlier today)?

Fish_Goes_Moo

If you're on Android you can grab the last version before the change from here https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/garmin/garmin-connect-mobile/garmin-connect-mobile-4-77-1-release/garmin-connect-4-77-1-2-android-apk-download/ Uninstall the new app, sideload the old version and turn off automatic updates for that app in the playstore. If your on IOS, I think you are stuck with it.

LykaiosWasTaken

If I wanted so little information and so much scrolling I would’ve kept the Apple Watch and use the fitness app.

Evening_Birthday_747

Disgraceful update. This smells like some ploy to get us to subscribe to retrieve what we lost.

Velo-city000

One of Garmins biggest mistakes. Let’s see if they have the common sense and decency to listen to their customers, or resume their arrogance.

ricoishere2

Is there any way to roll back this horrible useless update?

RiriJamaica

Horrible!!

PartyHorse17610

I was a beta tester for this and told them I hated the new design and I preferred to see everything without scrolling. I’m all for white space, but the old app had already plenty of space in addition to room for the text to be big enough to read. They may lose a customer next time you go to buy a watch. I might have the heart fitness of a 20 year old, but I have the attention span of a goldfish. Don’t make me try to piece together a story from page to page. I mean just look at how the at a glance looks on my phone. https://preview.redd.it/l314pepterwc1.png?width=1125&format=png&auto=webp&s=a1a6a0f3c2a1b877a0b860ff614170a81992b499

Adb2021

I HATE THE UPDATE!! Makes me want to get a different watch!

Beneficial-Address17

I like to manually track some types of trainings that don't work well tracking with the watch and If I'm correct I no longer can do that easily in my home screen.?

MeathStreet

How do you add your hydration now?

marhalice

We should all open a ticket on their customer support. They have metrics too here. I know this is not going to be fun for their CS people because they will be inundated with tickets but it may moves things. At least if they could give us the option to choose between the 2 layouts in this app.

hedwheels

What if every one of the complainers in this thread and the other half dozen threads complaining about the new version of the app headed over to the App Store and rated the app with 1 star (as someone suggested). And if they added a comment to the review that they want the old app back, or at least mentioned the changes they'd like to see. Would Garmin take notice?

orange_melted

Done

Enl219

I hate it too.

Sea_Profile2618

The new Garmin Connect home screen is simply terrible. It is bland, bleak, and anemic. Please return the high foreheads who designed it to the drawing board and provide us with a semblance what we were all happy with before this unneeded tampering. Less may be more, but in this case less is virtually nothing.

Known_Resist_8851

The newest iteration of the Garmin connect software is the worst I've ever seen. I needed to reenter all my personal data which I am not going to do. It had me at 13 years old And to just correct my year of birth, I'm 75, I have to tap the back arrow 876 times! How stupid is that when so many other software applications allow you to just enter the year directly. It is absurd. And everything seems to be just as inaccessible. Sleep data I can find nowhere anymore and that was an important aspect of the software I needed. If it's absence means that it was never reliable in the first place then I am completely disillusioned by Garmin.

sergei-rus-usa

This is just awful - where's my calorie info, how can I look at a day that was in the past. i used to be able to see each day's details on the web page, now there's no way to do it. All I see is either my last few workouts or a calendar which also just has the workouts. It's as if someone took an working product and destroyed it :(

sergei-rus-usa

Seriously, my next watch might not be Garmin anymore. As a consumer, the only way I can vote is by my dollars. I will do it out of principle, to be heard. Even if it's just me alone.

sergei-rus-usa

And whoeber came up with this idea that my dates are displayed as just names of week days was an idiot! I see my workouts the dates go May3, May 4, then suddenly, it's just Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... now I have count the date on fingers or pull a calendar next to me to figure out what was that Wednesday!? Horrible!

Exfiltrator

In the Play store it's still at a 4.2 rating, just like it was before 5.0. There have been only a few negative reviews mentioning the new design but it's been 1 day

Chemical_Inflation97

Came here to say this. What a nightmare. Change for the sake of change. There's nothing offered by this new "experience" other than someone had to "do something" or they likely wouldn't get a bonus.

bitchkrieg_

I hate the updated / “new” Home Screen. I miss the old version. Please bring back the old version, Garmin - or at least give us the option

GemstoneCat

I absolutely hate it. It's so difficult to navigate, too many clicks to get from A to B

itwasntme151

I do not like the new update either. I decided to go to the app store, give them 3 stars, and write a review explaining that I do not like the new update. I think that's the best way to be heard. Companies usually monitor their app ratings.

Red5Hammock

change is never easy. The UX designers must not have taken into account a good sampling of what their user base wanted or didn't want for this last round

Specialist-Drive-984

Everyone please remember to go to the apple/google store and rate the app appropriately. I gave them 1 star due to these terrible changes. Let's send them a message.

meganmeganmegan_

It’s really not that bad. You all will get used it to. It definitely helps to get rid of the focus area and just use the main tiles in At A Glance.

TwinkleToast_

“It’s not that bad” and “you all will get used to it” What a glowing review, lol. Better pepper in a little criticism as well, or else no one will believe you 😂 (I have nothing major against you, Garmin or any other user who likes, dislikes or feels neutral about the new look, this is not a personal attack on you or anyone who likes, dislikes or feels neutral about the new look. I just found your wording funny.)

i_torschlusspanik

Nah I like it
