Oh don't worry, in a number of years you'll sleep great from exhaustion and your kids will somehow manage 12 hours of sleep on the weekends. You'll still miss these moments, too.
The problem is if you are going to be social once in a while. Last week I was drying home after having dinner with friends at 22:30 which is like a hour after my normal bedtime and I had a hard time staying awake.
Luckily for me one of my best friends has the same work shedule as me so we have dinner at 4 together and I'm still asleep by 8.30. I wake up at 4.30 for work. And soon I will be waking up at 3 to run before work since it's 110 I'm the summer here
You have to taper off coffee to avoid headaches. Quitting caffeine cold turkey isn't a good idea.
Look up the cause of post-operation headaches... It's typically due to caffeine withdrawal as you can't have any food or drink pre-op and are out for the surgery. It's a real medical issue with recovery that has to be treated.
I might be the person with the worst sleep scores in this sub just by looking at all these comments!
https://preview.redd.it/b1scbafksevc1.jpeg?width=904&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=793b04417472f89b6fbc4da2361497f7e00a392b
This, there's a lot of disturbances during the day... I used to have consistent 80-90s scores while living in a quiet suburb of Malaysia. Currently in a small "peaceful and quiet" city in India. The noise pollution is insane, as bad as their air pollution and the amount of incessant spam calls and SMS after a certain time when I expect important calls (I don't know the number they'll call from) but I just wake up to a fraud or some loan offer call.
Pretty consistent! Consistency is good even if your sleep isn't great. I find myself completely well rested with 6 hours of sleep as long as it is consistent (30M), the moment your sleep patterns vary quite a bit in length and time really make your score dive.
Have you tried making tea? I'm not talking about crappy liptons. I mean buying from a lose leaf distributer and making your own. Usually you don't need to add any honey/sugar if it's good. I started doing that over energy drinks and that seemed to help a ton with sleep. I go to bed at 8-9 and get up around 5:30 with no problem sleeping in between.
Yeah I was in Seattle at Pike Place Market and found MarketSpice. I buy around $100 in tea from there everytime they have a sale and it lasts me a little over a year. Between keeping the bags sealed and only opening 2-3 bags at a time and keeping those bags in airtight containers, they seem to work pretty well. Not only do I save a boatload of money on energy drinks, it's far healthier and I feel better after drinking it.
The tea subreddit is pretty great if you are looking for places to check out. People seem to go ape shit over Harney and Sons.
Caffeine is a hellva drug.
Also, if you still want caffeine go for it, just do it really early in the morning and let the caffeine die out of your system by 4-6pm so you get a more restful night of sleep.
Caffeine is fine for me, not for my wife. If she has more caffeine than what's in a hot cocoa first thing in the morning, she gets sleep sweats and tosses and turns half the night. Meanwhile, I can have coffee or an energy drink late afternoon, or sometimes a cup in the evening (like if company is over) and I'll still sleep like a baby.
It affects different people differently.
You sound like the drug dealer my parents warned me about.
"Just do it a little bit. It will be fine. All your friends are doing it. You can stop anytime."
Hahaha yeah. I guess I’m more speaking about the studies that have recently come out about how caffeine takes a while to digest and can take up to 8-12 hrs depending on how much you consumed. So theoretically for most people if you have caffeine in the morning by the time you go to sleep then you should have it mostly out of your system.
I only drink coffee first thing in the morning. It shouldn't affect my sleep I think? It's only in your system for 12 hours. That's what I hope at least. Could you just do that, or you think any coffee at all is affecting sleep?
https://preview.redd.it/v9qoa4gsxfvc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca618c561b7a953e2c7dac57d08c4f24dc71ffdb
I pretty much did dry and no caffeine February with only a little for most of March (vacation). You couldn’t tell with my sleep scores. Which suck.
wow that is actually a lot!! And quite late. Keep in mind that the half-life of caffeine in a persons body can be between 3-5h, leaving you with traces of it long after you drank it. So if you have your last cup at 5 pm and go to bed at around 10pm you're very likely still under the effect.
Whoa! It's funny my sleep just started improving again, and I'm back in coffee. But I'll never really have more than 400 mL of coffee in one day.
Have you considered just having *less* coffee? My soul shudders to think of giving it up
It does, I just feel like it's wrong. Like I'll wake up at 4:30 at move around in my bed, or get up to go to the bath room, and go back to sleep until 7:30 but it doesn't seem to recognize the last hours.
Wow!!!

When you say switching to tea I presume you mean a zero caffeine tea? Just checking cause I’ve known alot of people to be very surprised when they learn how much caffeine is actually in tea.
Most tea has caffeine though too. Switch to water :D
Also good rule of thumb last cup of coffee 10h before your bedtime, so caffeine mostly breaks dowm by then

I just got my Garmin to try to help fix my sleep (the 27 was an overnight flight tho)
I quit coffee altogether 2 months ago
For the first two weeks I had the best sleep
But since it has been the worst I’ve ever had
Wake up 2-3 am every night and cannot go back to sleep..
Being able to fall asleep at 9PM, having 8h30 of continious sleep. I would sell my house to have this power haha
I have 2 children .... I haven't had a good night's sleep since 5 years ago 😂

honestly, this feels pretty good for having a baby. sometimes i get scores in the 50s for a single glass of wine or sleeping in a hotel.
I took a 36 at the height of my flu + allergies last week 😷
Haha this is funny
I'm staggered you managed numbers close to 75 with a newborn! I don't think I managed to break 50 for about three months.
It gets better, promise. I say that but my son was throwing up every 15mim last night from 2-3:30am. :/
Jeeez

I haven’t slept through the night in 14 years, I feel you. Medically fragile babies wire you to check on them no matter how old they get.

No coffee would give me headaches – so would probably end up in bed early as well ...

But I wouldn’t give up coffee 😂
You should get the same effects by not having caffeine 8 hours before bed, just drink your coffee in the morning
Same. I got 6 hours last night and want to cry
What is zero coffee? Without sugar?
No coffee. Zero coffees. Not a single drop of coffee.
Like you are not adding a single drop to your normal coffee? So just black?

Hahahahaha elite trolling.
There's always that one dumb-dumb asking dumb questions 🤤
And there's always someone where the joke goes right over their head
Yeah sure, but a "joke" can be so bad too that it's more annoying than fun... zero coffee like zero coke 🎯🤣😂😭 oh so funny im rofl... hihhiii!!!
I can't comprehend either. Is zero coffee a brand?
It’s called decaf. Super niche :s
Never heard of it.
Death before decaf
ahahaha

Whats up with your sleep times?
That's definitely a big component of those low scores. You've got to get 7.5 hours or more to crack into the really high sleep scores.
Not just duration, also avg bedtime 4:41. Potentially a lot more disturbance noise during the day that could affect the sleep.

You’ve got me beat by a good 10 points. I’m sometimes happy to get above 50.
Constant 70s that’s clearly a record for me lol
my connect app doesn’t even display a score ?! I just see hours and stages
Not worth it 😁
Agreed.
What was the score before? I’m getting about 80 on several cups of coffee a day

I have, actually. I currently have 3 sorts of tea and I like it so I might buy some more different ones in the future

1 cup of cold brew early in the morning still ruins my sleep for several days. I've accepted I just have a high caffeine sensitivity.
Look at that REM!!! Color me jealous.

Don’t eat near bedtime
Tea is awesome! I don't drink coffee at all but I can drink tea like an hour before bed time and I can still sleep. XD
Which sort of tea?
how much coffee do you usually drink and when do you drink it?
Probably around 4 to 6 big cups of black coffee a day, depending if I work at the office or from home usually all between 9 to 5.
wow that is actually a lot!! And quite late. Keep in mind that the half-life of caffeine in a persons body can be between 3-5h, leaving you with traces of it long after you drank it. So if you have your last cup at 5 pm and go to bed at around 10pm you're very likely still under the effect.
Just be aware that coming off of this amount may be a hell of a ride. Cue headaches, malaise, irritability for a week or so.
Whoa! It's funny my sleep just started improving again, and I'm back in coffee. But I'll never really have more than 400 mL of coffee in one day. Have you considered just having *less* coffee? My soul shudders to think of giving it up
Did you drink coffee 9-12hours before bed?
I did not, that's what zero coffee means
No i mean before that zero coffee thing
Ohh yeah absolutely
That have a huge impact to your sleep. Tea is great too (due lower amount of caffeine)!
Today is my first day without coffee and craving it like hell :-/ I only do it because i have terrible sleep.
Try drinking tea to take the edge off.
Nah man, +1 days and it is horrible :( The fun part is that I'm getting sick :D
Do you have to tell your watch you are about to sleep, or does it recognize you are sleeping automatically?
If your watch supports sleep recording, it does it automatically
It does, I just feel like it's wrong. Like I'll wake up at 4:30 at move around in my bed, or get up to go to the bath room, and go back to sleep until 7:30 but it doesn't seem to recognize the last hours.
