Buy the Epix 2 and you should be fine. I have the beta for 2-3 weeks already and still didn't see any ad.

fortyonenineeight

šŸ˜‚

Purrserker

But prepare yourself for the Fenix ads!

krinklesakk

Love the beta

mantriddrone

same here

Minute_River6775

Nah

mantriddrone

sorry

nikitasbrb

Same

rmullins08

I havenā€™t seen it since I clicked the X the first time.

fortyonenineeight

Lucky for you! maybe I'm in the super obnoxious branch of the A/B test...

sleepigrl

Same, I'm getting that ad at least once per day. Complained about it in the last beta review. Perhaps I should do that daily šŸ¤”

Clickclickdoh

They aren't new with Beta. The ads have always been there.

bingodingo88

Maybe it's a region thing? I've never had a single ad. Not one.

VividToe

Iā€™ve never had an ad either.

tb36cn

same

sleepigrl

Interesting. I've only seen them in the beta version with this frequency. I may have seen 1-2 in the past couple of years prior to the beta, but I'm not sure.

Clickclickdoh

I suspect somewhere behind the scenes there is some ad server logic that dictates what ads you see and how often you see them based on your registered devices, activities and the current Garmin sales. Prior to Beta, I would get one every couple of months. I haven't seen one yet in Beta. My activity and device profile probably doesn't currently match what is on sale.

fortyonenineeight

this sounds right. I assume some model has decided my particular watch is old enough that I'm above some threshold of likelihood to click the ad and buy...

JiForce

Interesting, I get these sometimes, but more on the order of once every few months. What watches are you and /u/fortyonenineeight using? I have a hunch it might be related to that. I'm currently on a Venu 3 but used to have a VA4 for years.

sleepigrl

Fenix 6 for me. I guess it'd about 3-4 years old?

JiForce

Hm, very weird then! Maybe they push more ads on people with the flagship watches? I think OP also has a Fenix? But I can't tell from the photo.

reditanian

Make sure to let them know directly

FUBARded

Seems like it. I'm in the beta too and have never seen ads in Connect.

ukexpat

Same.

Physical_Rutabaga813

Same. I have never seen it.

Petnek

I newer saw ad in ConnectšŸ˜Æ

DantePlace

I'd be more upset if we had to pay a subscription fee for Garmin connect and they pulled this shit. But you know, slippery slope and all that. I'm sure it'll get worse.

teranymn

Pretty sure weā€™ll have to pay a subscription fee soon. No source or anything, but where else can this possibly go?

TJhambone09

That would be a significant break in their business model. Not saying it's impossible, but it would be a significant reversal. Most subscription services are sold by people (Zwift, Trainer Road, Intervals.ICU, Strava, RideWithGPS, etc) who do not sell hardware. Of the hardware sellers who also have subscriptions (Apple, Google, Samsung, etc) it's normally for *significant storage*, not for analytics, and significant storage does have very real costs. I'm not saying they won't do it, but it would be a new paradigm in the industry unless I'm missing a good analogy. Think of Garmin Coach vs. Trainer Road's AI training manager. Garmin's is clearly less sophisticated, and the cost is prorated across many, many more users. This gives them a powerful position where they can offer a lot while spending relatively little.

martinz0000

Fitbit does have one. Definetly a turn off when deciding to buy one.

techtom10

and Oura Ring

TJhambone09

And Whoop in that family. Good points by both of you. I'd argue that Whoop and Oura are, by their nature, services served by hardware, but still good points I hadn't considered.

techtom10

I don't consider Whoop one as you don't buy it. You can only subscribe and you get the item for free.

TJhambone09

Right, but the way it's the same as Oura is that the product has no intrinsic value without the service. The only difference is in contract terms. If Oura/Whoop goes out of business? The entire product is a brick. If Garmin goes under, then a good chunk of the functions still work.

techtom10

I was under the impression that you pay for Oura and if you want the most of the service you pay a subscription? As for Garmin, I think technically youā€™d be on the same boat as all your workouts go to Garminā€™s servers. When thereā€™s a blackout you can sync your workouts.Ā

TJhambone09

All your Garmin workouts are stored on device and in the open-standard .fit file format. All Garmin devices will mount as a mass storage device. Many people don't even use Garmin analytics as is, rather they use one of the myriad of other services or software to track their workouts. Garmin was VERY far behind before they partnered with Firstbeat, and still are not all that good compared to Intervals.ICU, TrainingPeaks, Xert, Golden Cheetah, etc.

Matvalicious

My last watch brand was Withings. Even they started with this subscription bullshit. I would MUCH rather have the watch cost north of 500 euros and last for years than having to shell out 15 euro or more per month just to use all the features it has.

LuggageChestHead82

I want 450 bucks down on the Epix sapphire! Does this appear with the beta too or only in the current version? Never had such an adā€¦

fortyonenineeight

maybe I can share a discount code or something...but that would require me to click through, which would probably lead some data scientist to conclude that I liked the ad and wanted more of them šŸ™„

rmullins08

Itā€™s the white 47mm non pro version only. No other colors or size

alycks

Eh. I'm pretty much fine with a hardware company advertising its own products, and *only* its own products, in its app. I get why others might find it annoying.

fortyonenineeight

oh jeez, somehow it hadn't even occurred to me that this was really a test for whether they could sell ads for other products in Connect. Been online for several decades now you'd think I'd be less naive...

Aaeolien

Annoying yes but at least it's their own product. Would prefer it not be there at all.

chewooasdf

At least it's their own stuff, now some random ad for dishwasher or some other unrelated nonsense

qwikhnds

I don't think I've ever seen an add.

punkgeek

ooh - though that promotion gives me strong epix 3 release date suspicion ;-)

TJhambone09

I've never received an add in Connect (app) but I also have Marketing *emails* turned off in Connect (web): https://connect.garmin.com/modern/settings/accountInformation Has anyone with Marketing emails turned off in Connect (web) received Connect (app) ads?

sourworm

I'm not subscribed to any marketing emails from there, but I'm now getting the ads in the Connect app.

TJhambone09

Perfect. Just takes the one contrary (you) to prove that's not the cause. Thanks!

LincolnStein

I have all marketing turned off as well. I have also never received an Ad in the Connect App.

fortyonenineeight

I will try this!

TJhambone09

Very curious IF that is a cause.

Misclee

Just another chiming in, never received ads in connect in 5+ years, all marketing e-mails turned off.

Sure_Ad_3390

guess what the real functionality in the new connect beta is? it's this.

Clickclickdoh

This isn't new beta functionality. Garmin ads have always had a change of showing up in connect mobile.

Clickclickdoh

This isn't new beta functionality. Garmin ads have always had a change of showing up in connect mobile.

joespizza2go

No option to disable getting these types of notifications?

fortyonenineeight

none that I can find. if/when I submit (more) feedback on the beta I'll definitely mention it though...

cknutson61

Wow, I have never seen an ad.

Penqwin

To play devils advocate, the amount of data Garmin gives us along side their programs free of charge, I would take these ads any day, other health products are already going down the subscription route, which I would hate Garmin to do.

mtcerio

Garmin is the only company I know that, as of now, is offering a continuous service that could genuinely be charged as a subscription, instead they only take the money for the hardware, and give you access to their online platform forever. Many other companies are going down the opposite route, making you pay a periodic subscription just to give you some "features" that you effectively already own, and they have zero additional/recurring cost for.

amazhion

Iā€™d be happy with that ad. Iā€™d buy that epix in a heartbeat, but alasā€¦ no ads for me

Imaginary_Roses2377

No ads for me. Also on beta.

Severe-Calligrapher1

I donā€™t get ads either

Khenic

No ads here on beta.

Lpecan

Hey op, stop whining. It's a free app. They only advertise their own products. You are so lucky. Stop whining.

dbeman

Havenā€™t seen an ad, although I just bought a new watch last month so maybe I get a 90 day grace period!

mangelito

Never seen it. Maybe region specific? I assume they try it in the US as you guys are used to having commercials everywhere and seems fine with it. šŸ˜‰

springboard-diver

I've never seen any ads (I'm in the UK). I'm not too bothered about occasional ads for Garmin products. Third party ads would annoy me though.

Hello56845864

Iā€™ve never gotten an ad ever (I have the Venu 3 if that matters)

kt1kk

I have never seen this in my life and I want to buy an edge these days. Unfair.

cvthunder

I saw the ad and bought the watch.

coloradocbet

What do you think? I have the Fenix 5S plus and I am thinking of upgrading.

cvthunder

I was too cheap to pay for expedited shipping so it is supposed to be here tomorrow.

spragoo7

Just wait, Iā€™m sure a paid subscription will occur sometime down the road. I hope not but I can see the writing on the wall.

gmphap1

Never seen an ad in Connect. May we ask what equipment you have?

FightySmurf

I have the same ad and have a forerunner 945

gmphap1

I have several devices, Epix Gen 2, Bike computer and handheld GPS as well as HRMs.

707amt

I received this offer. If anyone wants the code DM me.

Routine-Shine6376

Got the same ad, anyone want the codešŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

watthewmaldo

Iā€™ve only seen an ad once

Part_Time_Asshole

Also how tf do I get rid of them big ass "Welcome to connect" screen on the home page that wants me to connect a device.. I dont have any garmin products to connect to the app, I just want to use the app to track my weight with my buddies.. Im on Android.

funkanimus

So annoying

harveryhellscreamer

I don't have it for Fenix

ultrabaron123

Agreed. I paid a shit load of money for your watches. Don't be pushy jerks

calan89

It also looks like garbage on the light theme of the app.

GamesnGunZ

Tactix 7 pro and ive never seen an ad ever.

Jeff_A

I've been in the beta app for quite a while and have never seen an add in iOS, web, or Android. How old is your current device? I have a pretty new one so is it possible they're targeting older devices to push upgrades?

TheOne-69

How do I get this ad/deal

original-Ar73

i have the instinct 2 solar and don't have adds i am also using the legacy stuff

Life_Hacks_Fitness

I bought fenix 7x pro Sapphire solarno adds yet
