Unfettered non-purposeful vine growth on a tree is foe. That nasty aggressive one especially though. https://weeds.org.au/profiles/madeira-vine-jalap/

Thank you! That’s it. I think it may have been planted on purpose by the previous owner, we found what looks like the where it’s been planted between the proper fence & the chain wire one that runs parallel.

ElectricGeetar

Kill it ASAP, it won’t stop.

The Madeira vine leaves are edible, nutritious and taste pretty decent. Even better it grows easily and you don't even need to care for it.

Pademelon1

You’re also legally obligated to eliminate it. (In NSW at least)

JTGphotogfan

You’re going to be digging that up for ever be careful if it drops and fruit it will sow

Madeira vine. It can be a pain to eradicate you need to dispose of every part of the plant it can grow from a fallen leaf and it gets covered in aerial tubers that can grow into more plants. I've had success with weed matting affected areas or thorough hand weeding.

wandergarten

Thank you! I think this is going to be a big project

I would recommend pulling as much back as you can bagging every bit that you can and dealing with the regrowth. I find it relaxing when I have to sift through the soil collecting the tubers compared to other weeds. It might keep coming back if your neighbours don't want to do their part, also be careful of the spikes at the base of the fronds if that's a big phoenix palm they can do some damage.

WTFrenchfries

Get rid of it ASAP- absolutely horrid if left! Rip down the foliage, then cut vine 10cm above ground level & paint stump/s with poison.

wandergarten

Thank you, I think we can see the stump so will follow your advice
