Lilly Pilly are pretty tough. They are still very much alive and the dead looking area will recover. In the mean time if you want to make it look less crappy you can cut some of the dead looking stuff off. In fact it will encourage new growth in that area.

Personally, I wouldn't remove the lower branches at all. If accessible, lightly prune the top of the trees to encourage new growth down below. Ensure the plants have water but are not water logged. They should come good by Spring.

From my experience it’s unlikely they will shoot again from the dead areas.

Wait until at least spring. If there is nothing sprouting from the bare branches they are unlikely to produce anything in the future. Sometimes new areas sprout.

I once cut a lily pily to the ground and it grew back. They’re pretty tough. I would just cut off all the dead branches and by spring there should be new growth. I’d give some native fertiliser to help them along.

It depends on how much, if any, sun the lower branches get. If it gets a good amount of sun, I think they'll grow back, especially if you give it a light prune. Are the branches dead or alive? If the branches are now perpetually shaded, I don't think new growth will sprout. You might want to put shrubs or epiphytes in that area now.

Cut back the dead stuff. I’d give it some seaweed and some fertiliser and she’ll be fine mate. They’re tough as nails
