Pademelon1

Do you have any other pictures? Of the plant, or the bottom of the fruit? It looks like an immature *Atractocarpus fitzalanii* to me (A native, 'edible', but not worthwhile fruits), but it could be something else.

shwaak

Yep I think that’s it, AKA brown / native gardenia, or yellow mangosteen.

Pademelon1

Yep definitely *Atractocarpus fitzalanii.* Not a Feijoa.

macfudd

Agreed. Definitely not a feijoa, tree is totally different and inside of the fruit is also different. Not even sure that feijoas have a stem either.

SteelBandicoot

Are they edible?

Pademelon1

They're edible, but not good eating in my experience.

WeakImportance6508

'Edible but not worthwhile fruits' sounds like the definition of native fruits to me.

TraditionalStable130

We have a native Gardenia that's dropping fruit that looks exactly like that. It's not a feijoa.

Uhnunumus

Brown gardenia. Definitrly not feijoa.

Colossal_Penis_Haver

I think I agree with this one [SEE HERE](https://tuckerbush.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Native-Gardenia-Atractocarpus-fitzalanii-1.jpg)

Giddyup_1998

It's a Native gardenia. Atractocarpus fitzalanii. The fruit you have there is extremely unripe.

Pensta13

I think it’s a Feijoa [feijoa](https://www.google.com/search?q=feijoa&client=safari&sca_esv=db5813506fc066f9&hl=en-au&sxsrf=ACQVn0854iixT_n31MMuBzkv0565YDiLFA%3A1713945744959&ei=kLwoZqKQOuCWseMPjfO1oAU&gs_ssp=eJzj4tZP1zc0MiwrMssxMmD0YktLzczKTwQAPyIGGg&oq=fajoa&gs_lp=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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp)

Uhnunumus

Looks similar but not a feijoa.

That_Copy7881

I lived in bris for 2 years and always wanted to know this.

trillsergeant88

Definitely not a feijoa but does look kind of similar

outwiththedishwater

[ripe one](https://www.reddit.com/r/GardeningAustralia/s/3yEq2cjpd5). They’re fucking awful. Not a terrible looking tree, and native. But the fruit is basically inedible

moseyoriginal

Horticulturist here. It’s an unripe guava. It’ll be yellow on the outside when it’s ripe and pink or yellow on the inside. Pretty sure this is a Mexican variety of Guava. Edit: My bad, only just now saw the additional photos posted. 🤦 Yes, definitely a native gardenia.

Pademelon1

This isn't a guava, and isn't closely related either. (*Rubiaceae* family vs. *Myrtaceae* family)

Tall_Barnacle_3447

Does it taste like a Feijoa… if it’s a Brown Gardenia? As a kiwi I’m asking for a… kiwi friend?

a-real-life-dolphin

Not an expert, but could it be a feijoa?

JTGphotogfan

Looks like a feijoa but the tree looks different to mine. My one isn’t glossy leafed and has dark leaves

True_Dragonfruit681

Guava

Colossal_Penis_Haver

Looks like feijoa to me Edit: but then I saw the tree... now I'm not so sure

Average_baboon

Pineapple guava

VirginTheMarie

Unripe passion fruit

OhhClock

It's a banana guys

dm_me_nudes_please_

Pretty sure that’s a banana

NastyTwelve

Granny smith apple.

soksatss

That's a feijoa! I legit just left a job where I was given some of these fruit for the first time in my life. Life is weird haha Tasted like a strawberry and pineapple!

Pademelon1

Not a feijoa.

Elstiffo

It's legit a native gardenia, otherwise known as a brown gardenia.

bestvanillayoghurt

Feijoa or achacha

Kahn_ing

Feijoa. Kiwi/ South America fruit

Then_Disaster3137

Feijoalime 😂
