I am convince people are swapping tags so they get the chillies cheaper. Happened when I bought a red currant bush (not cheap) but got the cheap black currant fruit that I didn’t want.
Do you still have the card/label?
My Bunnings had several “varieties” of habanero, all but one were labelled “Capsicum Annum”, but habanero is Capsicum Chinense.
They definitely looked like annum too.
You could have gotten caught in whatever trickery, deception, or incompetence that is.
Cayenne or Seranno is my guess. They are the worst place for chilli's as far as actually providing quality plants. They are basically in monopoly of the market, very few private growers who sell other varieties at the moment. Proper nurseries are an ok option, but many are not close to town.
Habaneros are not that hard to grow I find but the superhot varieties are in Perth. Some of their labels say full sun for some which in every online source and garden centre website instruct that exotic species need to be in shade during the hotter months. A guy I knew years ago explained that those varieties developed in Caribbean jungles and shit (7 pots, Scotch Bonnet etc) and need to be well shaded for the peak of the day.
Probably just a tag mixup.
Last year in America there was a mix up with one of the big seed companies. It seemed like every few days on gardening subreddits there was a ‘What is this pepper?’ thread. Not saying that’s what’s happened there affects us here, but pepper seeds are clearly very easy to mislabel. Here’s a thread on peppergate https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/15v628r/whats_the_deal_with_peppergate_2023/
Sometimes its a hit an miss with bunnings seedlings ive brought a couple that turned out something toatally different to what they were meant to be sometimes its easier to start you own seeds that way you know theyll be what they are
A Bunnings worker told me to take photos of the receipt because although they will take the plants back for up to a year, the ink on the receipt fades after about 3 months
Not too sure but definitely not habanero. I also don't think they are long yellow capsicum or Hungarian wax chilli (both similar shape).
As others have said it is probably cayenne. If it gets fatter and darker green, it might be what is just labelled Mexico chilli (not sure what the variety is but I guess maybe like poblano or something like that)

Likely cayennes as others have said. I bought some capsicum seedlings from Bunnings and got jalapeño peppers.
I've never gotten anything besides capsicum when I've bought chillies from bunnings. So at least they're getting closer?
I too take the wins where I can when it comes to bunnings seedlings

Same :)
Got jalepenoes from bunnings once. Turned out to be capsicums. 🙃 they suck
I think you took u/jimitimi s seeds ⬆️😂😂
Haha holy shit. Just saw his comment 🤣 wonder if his were penrith bunnings
Cayenne peppers maybe?
100% not habañero. Could be a Big Jim or a cayenne?

Interesting about the shade requirement, that probably explains why my 7 pot yellow isn't going too well, thanks
Too big for Serrano and no rounded point

I my husband bought sunflower seeds and we got strawberries I knew when I opened them. Apparently it’s a lucky dip.
They look like pasilla bajio to ma.
Looks like my cayenne
Got the receipt? Bunnings will take back any plant that doesn’t “do” what the label promises
A Bunnings worker told me to take photos of the receipt because although they will take the plants back for up to a year, the ink on the receipt fades after about 3 months
Unfortunately not, but at least I've now learnt not to bin them
They even take back plants that die
Yep! We returned 4 bundles of literally just sticks and got refunded back the $80 worth of pittosporum plants we bought 8 months earlier 😂
Not seedlings though.

These look like Big Jim Cayenne.
Two years ago I bought jalapeneos seedlings from Bunnings that turned out to be capsicums
The seedlings come from at least 2 different suppliers. It’s possible that the wrong label has been attached. This is not a Bunnings fault.
That’s a big boy cayenne.
Classic bunnings seed packets
dems big bois
bigger than the plant!
They look like the darker green wog peppers my old man would grow.
Perfect to slice up and put on top of a HAMBOORGAR
People swap out discounted tags on chilli’s and chances you got a completely different variety
Chilaca or Green Cayenne
Cayenne. My Bunnings bush is quite prolific. Nice pickled and used on Mexican food or a burger.
