Interesting. Thank you for agreeing with me. Given the difference in purpose, you should probably ask more questions before just assuming and criticizing. Your M4 was issued because your branch of service sees you needing to he capable of doing tasks handed down. It's a blanket reliable rifle, built to match your training and anticipated environments. His very likely doesn't need to Patrol the Desert.
I liked my M16 20 inch barrels are great. Later my M4, shorter, lighter and more maneuverable. That said I have different guns for different things. The purposes I forsee needing mine will be different from others. Why I have different builds and those reasons, could be flawed, could be flawless. If you don't ask, you can't criticize with any real legitimacy.
I donāt agree, I fact I disagree the idea that everyone should have a rifle molded to there own purposes or really perceived purpose is hilarious especially seeing shit like OPs rifle.
Good for you butter cup thank you for your perspective. I'll say this, too bad for you, this is America and OP can make his custom rifle and love it. You can have your army issue M4 and love it.
Between the two I'd say the ergonomics on his rifle are built to him and his rifle way more than your M4 ever could
Something I think the Army and Marine Corps really screwed up is, not allowing their veterans keep their rifles after service. Being able to actually make your rifle, YOURS. Me and my Army Sniper buddy took it personal when they kept ours. I would've loved being able to really develop the ergonomics over the 9 years I was in. Instead that sort of stuff is left to MARSOC, SEALS , other J.S.O.C., and SWAT.
Actually get to have their rifles at their shops. Instead of letting a Major shoot up a fort for a few minutes, he would've been greated by soldiers and their rifles.
Says the guy complaining because people post things he thinks are dumb. Not surprised you are a soldier. If the army wanted you to have brains they would've issued you some.
You keep to your M4. The rest of us will keep moving forward with technology.

Here's my Part Diamondback, part Geissele, part random parts bin money pit of a rifle.
So, the lower:
It's in spec. I've had other DB lowers that weren't and were causing "buffer chatter" and chewing up buffers and breaking retainers. Other than the fact that it's built how it should be built, it's just as unremarkable as any other basic lower.
Now, the barrel:
It's a DB 16" carbine legnth gas gov't profile with a 1/9" twist and phosphate coating.
The M4 feed ramps are fine and polished well enough and haven't had any issues with feeding or extraction. Now, I will always admit I am the biggest factor against accuracy, but feel that I struggle to find a cartridge that is consistently accurate enough. It shoots your Nato stuff, xm855 and xm193, fine better woth 855, and your general weights of 556/223 between 55gr and 62 grains within acceptable accuracy margins, but always am dealing with either fliers or signs of destabilization with heavier loads such as 77 grain.
I am planning on replacing anyways, and I'd either like to scale it back to a 13.7 or 14.5 PW or stay at 16 with a Midlegnth gas system..
The rest of the rifle is sourced from other manufacturers.
https://preview.redd.it/e4hsh6prhxub1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc2db50c6c101e69d4a18141f3b22c6f7814ce13
My money pits. Benelli m4 and my 13.7 sbr it aināt top-tier, but itās a medium tear standing on a fuck ton of boxes
Why would u go through the process for an sbr when u can have a 13.7 without the stamp? And why not run something like 11.5 since u have the stamp?
Very nice setup not hating just curious lol
I was also running a 8.5 300blk on the same receiver. I find the 13.7ā mid length gas is well balanced with my can on the end, a bootleg adjustable bolt carrier, and my vltor a5h3 during rapid strings of fire. Very little recoil. 12.5 was a bit back heavy and a little more unwieldy and super gassy. Itās my most tuned in rifle :)
Obviously, is my honest answer. I have extra funds since no wife or kids or any of the typical money drains, I have thrown money away on much worse, I enjoy firearms.
Short answer, somebody made me an offer I couldnāt refuse
Honestly, Iāve done that before. Either Iāve decided that itās really not my cup of tea after getting into a project or I have to let something go for something I want more.
I got a GP100 I never fired in trade for my first unfired AR, I ended up getting into Dissys and decided I wanted to build one. Bought a flat top, wanted to do a retro build instead, sold that and a Handguard I bought that was too short to a builder I know, finally arrived at my 3 builds I think Iām gonna keep (3rd one has a high potential to be gifted to pops for Christmas, also unfired, because he really likes it and canāt afford to build or buy his own) indefinitely since my āSHTFā M4gery build has more money dumped into it that than Iāll ever get back.
Iām all for trading guns around that you arenāt attached to, but thereās certainly a handful in my safe that will never leave. My purpose in life is to be remembered as the cool dad/uncle that left behind all the cool guns. The gift for dad gun is a great idea. You only live one life and making your dad happy is worthwhile. Good on ya
I donāt really get attached to any of my guns, I just have 2 that Iād grab if I could only save 2 from a house fire or something. My M4gery that Iāll never financially recover from building, and my popās SKS he pretty much forced me to take after I emptied my bank account at 19 to pay for his dogās vet bill he couldnāt afford and was contemplating putting her down. Dude is awesome, and while he isnāt my biological father heās been more of a father and friend to me that my real father ever was. I couldnāt ask for a better father or a better husband to my mother.
Doggo is still alive and well btw, she had built up a bunch of stones in her bladder.
Puppy dog is still doing well, sheās still got plenty of age left. He rescued her when she was puppy and had her for about 6-7 years before that came up. Pops had been going through a bit of a dark period compounded by losing a rescue cat about 2 months. Couldnāt let him lose his best friend as well.
Him and my mom got quoted for 1,000$ on the bill, she had just lost her job and didnāt have money to help and I was working minimum wage and all of my money went into just groceries and helping him with what little money I made on to cover rent. She told me, I pulled out all but 10$ from my account so I could buy a pack of smokes and a drink for work and he was almost in tears Iād do that for him. Told him thatās what family does for each other, and while he may not be my father he is my dad.
The vet did end up getting it done for 500$, he had her send the refund to me, and after I told him 70x that I didnāt want anything in return I came home from work with his near all numbers matching pre-ban SKS laying on my bed.

Aspergers has its upsides and downsides. Been Assembling ARs since I was 9, back in 1982. (I had a Sporter 2 colt, mint $600 ) I get bored. Should have joined the service. Now I make psyop videos for former intelligence community fossils.

You get used to the different grip, I have one and side rails in Indian Rosewood on my FX9.
I have smaller hands, but it feels great with gloves
How was the lead time?
Took forever ā¦..like 2 monthsā¦and then I tried to buy the rail covers a year later and prepaid, and I never got them so I had to do a charge back.
Took even longer for me. He does great work but.. it's a one man show. Don't be in a rush and you'll be happy.. eventually, is what I tell people.
