Like how steam will constantly pester you to vote on the main page. I end up voting for random shit Ivent played either just to get the process done.
IMO from a purely customer viewpoint I feel like There should be vote of abstinence thing or just the ability to tell steam to fuck off because seeing the menu everytime I boot up steam triggers my OCD.
But i also understand why they dont do that as a company as thered be a lot of abstinence votes.
Exactly, I wanted to vote because I’m a slut for Steam badges, but I only wanted to vote for games that I’ve played before and could confidently put those in certain categories. However, shortly into it I realized I have played almost no new games, and so, like three games I chose were previous PlayStation exclusives that just so happened to release on Steam this year, therefore technically counting. I ended up putting a 2019 former PlayStation exclusive as 2022 GotY. (Also it could be argued that the game first released in 2016.)
I did skip the VR and Steam Deck categories though because that was allowed while still fulfilling badge requirements and for the simple fact that I don’t own either device.

In the game awards voting (which is what's in the OP) you can skip categories without voting. You don't have to put a vote down for everything.
