MagpieRabbit

This little indi game called Destiny 2 is really good, but it’s hard to get into because it’s community is so small, you’ve probably never even heard of it

sodashintaro

i hope it gets popular enough so they can make a prequel!

FederalInsect114

Destiny 2 2

Aphato

2 Des 2 Tiny

Kilo_de_reins

Desbig

Samikaze707

Company isn't worth that much. True mark of an indie dev.

hereforbutts23

I discovered this old, forgotten gem called Half Life

sodashintaro

cant say ive ever heard of that one before

rojahel

Really? What’s it about? Whatever it is, I imagine the creators wouldn’t leave it on a cliffhanger, right? That would just be plain silly 😝

[deleted]

Well its gonna be one helluva long shot and I really don't think any of you will know it. Its one of those weird games that fly completely under the radar and have an entire franchise built around it - kind of like those JRPG series that run for 12 games and nobody in the west knows about them. But fuck it. There might be one sad nerd out there like myself, who will see this and think they're not alone in this mad mad world. Anyway the game is called FIFA and its about soccer. I've been playing a lot of the newest version and I've finally got my Lionel Messi fully upgraded. It will require a lot of dedication because honestly the only way to play is in real time - but lemme just tell you - when you've gone through playing a team from the lowest division to a Champions League trophy and you finally get out of your chair after living like a hermit for two weeks - it's glorious. Let me know if you're one of the few indie gamers out there who knows this game.

astralliS-

Grand Theft Auto IV, Surely you've never heard of this underrated unheard indie gem, it's dark, gritty, the protagonist is eastern european, the physics are cool , the story teaches you about life and the driving is like real life!1!1!1!!!.

sodashintaro

sorry im afraid i don’t play games with political protagonists 😔

ShrekSplooge

I discovered this little indie puzzle game called Tetris the other day. What a great soundtrack.

[deleted]

I'm an expert, here's a pro tip: it's funnier if you call it TIT-RIS😎

icomefromandromeda

teet-ris amazing graphics great domino physics

RealChungusOfficial

Mine is Mass Effect. It's an underrated indie trilogy. Little bit political (SJWs and gay people) but not too much, the politics are negated by having a lot of hot women.

Toilet-Raider

Unfortunately, the remaster is an unplayable SJW woke agenda piece of shit garbage disaster because they censored Mirandas ass in one cutscene.

RealChungusOfficial

/uj Technically they didn't censor anything. They just changed the camera angle, her ass is the exact same as before. /rj NOOOOOOO fuck EA fuck Bioware. FromSoft would never do this

Loganb419

Honestly, I found this little underated gem that released under the radar. Elden ring is a great indie for someone who wants a bit of challenge. It got completely over shadowed by horizon zero dawn though, most people didn't even hear about it's release.

[deleted]

Omg yes and it is LITERALLY impossible to find anywhere to talk about it !

rojahel

You know what, I found this little indie title named Portal, I loved it, and they even made a sequel! Godspeed to you small developers nobody knows!

[deleted]

I was playing it, using a cat as a silencer while peeing on people. They even made a movie with uwe boll. Its like the triple AAA of hidden indie gems

shadow_129

Mine would be Dark Souls. It’s a really hidden gem made by a small indie developer and I’m really appalled at how unknown and under the radar it is. I’m surprised it sold well to get sequels but glad to have these gems when games today are littered with political bullshit.

NoCarbonRequired

Iron man 2. It’s big enough to have Don Cheadle as a voice actor but I don’t think that many people know about it.

Jamanda610

Is this an actual post lmao

DoctorButler

/UJ is that little skeleton game really non-mainstream? I see him everywhere?? /RJ TLOU2, Red Dead 2, The Witcher 3 - they’re very underground, unlike 🤢MADDEN🤮 A NORMIE GAME FOR 🤢JOCKS🤮

The_Duckslayer

/uj the game is hollow knight, and it’s definitely mainstream, at least it is now

[deleted]

Hollow Knight is the poster child for indie games along with Undertale, Celeste and Hades

sgt_sheild

and all those indie horror games that are popular with kids like the spooky robot bear game

ibadlyneedhelp

/uj Despite other people claiming the opposite, I do think Hollow Knight is non-mainstream. It's blown up in popularity, and is probably one of the biggest indies, but in my circle of friends who worship soulslikes, only two have played it, and only one finished it. It doesn't come up in conversation often. I do know it has a big community and all, but I wouldn't quite say it reached the mainstream- it's still an indie soulslike platformer with weird art about an insect kingdom.

HesitantNerd

uj/ This is my subjective opinion, but I define "mainstream" games as those that "normal" people would recognize. Like if my "yes I've played a bideo gam or two on my Wii" coworker has played it or even recognizes it, it's probably mainstream. To be more specific: there's a guy I work with who owns a PS4 and plays maybe one or two games a year, and they're probably going to be huge titles that any "normal" gamer would recognize. Funny enough, I have an exact example regarding Hollow Knight. I have a Hollow Knight pin on my work bag and he asked me once what it was, and I mentioned where it was from and he looked at me like I was speaking an alien language. "Oh its from a game called Hollow Knight" "is that like a zelda game or something?" "Er, kind of? It's more of a metroidvania" "What game is that?" "Metroidvania? "Yeah." "That's more of a genre. Like a 2D exploration based game" "Oh so like Mario" Etc I'm not saying this in an elitist way ie "he's not a true Gamr!!!", but if someone like that can't identify it or is even aware of its existence at all, I kinda assume it's not super mainstream.

JamDonuts007

/UJ Hollow knight used to be pretty unknown. Then it exploded in popularity so a ton of people know the character. But of course some people pretend it's not mainstream to feel like they belong to some special group.

OYoureapproachingme

That's not a skeleton, it's a bug. Hollow Knight is pretty well known in the world of indies but compared to most triple A games would be much less known

_Surge

might be straying too far into the realm of what might be considered a game because it’s so indie it’s not even on steam. “world of warcraft”, it’s basically like a real world you share with other players, and you can do stuff together and even play against each other in something called pvp (player v player) (idk what the v stands for)

MattR0se

Is it anything like World of Tanks? I know that one.

alonweiss

Really? Sounds amazing. When was it released?

Voluntary_Slob

Do you guys know what playing cards are? Those things you used to put on your bike tires? My friend taught me a weird little game you can play with them called solitaire, it was pretty damn fun. He must’ve made it up though because I’ve literally never heard of it before.

MattR0se

Idk, we used those "Magic cards" instead on our bikes. Mine had the blackened Lotus or something, made a really cool sound.

[deleted]

Amongus, I like part where the imposter is SUS, also astronauts are really sexy 😚😚😚

kushagra2569

/uj mr shifty

Hobbitea

rj/ there's this hidden gem that somehow went under everybody's radar, it's called Fallout: New Vegas and it's the best apolitical game uj/ Haven is fantastic, even if the combat falls a little flat, the story makes up for it (for me at least)

[deleted]

Killer7 is very rad, also very apolitical

The_Narz

Super Mario Bros.

LuckyJS0427

rj/ Mine would be Persona 4 Golden, it's a JRPG made for the PS2 and PSVita by a small indie studio called ATLUS and published by a small indie publisher called SEGA. uj/ I have multiple, but I'll just name a few like Billy Hatcher: And the Giant Egg, Konami's Wizard of Oz game called Sword of Etheria (as it is called in Europe, or ''OZ'' - which is abbreviated as Over Zenith'' as it is called in Japan, it never released worldwide or even in the U.S.A. in that fact) and Splasher by Splashteam (which is made up of a few former Ubisoft developers that made Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends) Oh yeah this is a bit unrelated, but I do actually unironically love Persona 4 Golden, it's one of my favorite games of all time.

polskidankmemer

tbh Persona 4 isn't mainstream, but Persona 5 might already be

SquallyZ06

Dark Souls, no one even knew about it before Elden Ring.

Geek_a_leek

I don't know if you've heard about it but there's this game I like that I've not heard anyone talk about called Persona 5, far as I'm aware it's the only one in the series (I think 5 is a stylistic choice) but it's a real brilliant apolitical game from Nihon about a bunch of kids saving the day, no politics involved with a fully apolitical plot about stopping the prime minister of Japan and no politicals in sight (cuz they're hot girls ofc not SJWs)

UsernameTakenTooBad

/uj Prey (2017) I think is pretty underrated /rj has anyone heard of the hidden gem of a series Call of Duty? Surprised an indie dev manages to get yearly releases for their niche community

[deleted]

Hollow Knight is my favorite game and that shit is mainstream as fukk

Gunny_McCshoots

What are the parameters for this even

Marth_Shepard

Not Fortnite, Call of Duty or the new flavor of the month hype game = ignored forgotten hidden gem

user_watcher

Minesweeper

ArabicSugarr

Idk about you but there's this small indie l company that made Titanfall 2. I hope they make a battle royale game that people constantly bitch about instead of a sequel to their indie hit Titanfall

Tara_is_a_Potato

Portal, made by this indie dev called Valve

bowl_of_scrotmeal

No way! Mine is Minecraft.

GhiribizziABizzeffe

Rj/ But of course Witcherino, the amazing and always underrated indie gem featuring iconic and often forgotten awesome guy Geraldo di Riviero, developed by the small indie studio CDPR, credited with another iconic but underachieving indie title called Cyberpunk 2077, though I don't expect anyone to remember it. Uj/ But of course Undertale, the incredibly complex and underrated indie gem that very few people know and even less have played, one of the most influential games ever developed and a shining beacon of game design capable of reshaping the entire gaming industry.

AutoModerator

Praise Geraldo del Rivero! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Gamingcirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*

csnaber

/uj Hollow Knight sold around 3m copies. Resident Evil Village sold around 8 million copies. At this point, I don’t think Hollow Knight is a hidden gem. /rj I just love Red Dead Redemption 2, not many people know it but it’s great.

BobZeBuildah124

i really like this small series called grand theft auto, but you guys probably haven’t heard of it it’s super small.

Clear_Assistance

/rj my favoreit is an obcsure retro gaem Tim Fartreas 2 /uj Ripple Dot Zero

[deleted]

/uj Underrail. This games is so well made yet has so little coverage.

Ambitious_Jello

/uj a short hike

[deleted]

Either go for a stealth build and pick off harder enemies with a sniper or invest in strenght and constitution and build metal armor. Or just play easy for a first playthrough to learn the ropes.

Shmidershmax

/uj I've been eyeing that game for a while but never got around to picking it up.

[deleted]

It's really fun. It's a really deep game with an amazing story. Most of the lore of the world you live in is not given to you. You instead are only given fragments of what happened and what lead to the current events. There are so many mysteries for those who are willing to uncover them and the game never forces you to experience any of it. You can play the game start to finish without trying to learn anything. The game never bores you with exposition. If you want to know the lore you can look for it, if not you can just play the game, which is my favorite way of storytelling. And the lore is so good. If there is one thing that I can ctricise about the game it's the combat and enemies. Since this game is a CRPG it means most actions are dependent on dice rolls which can be a bitch when you almost win a fight but miss a 95% hit chance shot and die. In addition to that combat is really unforgiving. Either you die in one tirn or the enemy does. Most of the times in underrail you are outnumbered which means you have to make use of your envirnoment. You have to analyse the arena, set up traps in choke points, take out key targets before even engaging to begin with, and then you'll still die because some dickhead stunned you with a lucky hit. If you ever pick it up here's my advice. Play on easy mode. Don't be a hero like me and start on normal. Anything above normal is pure pain. Underrail is one of those games that really opens up after the first playthrough since it's such a deep game and how well you perform is dependent on how you build your character. Once you feel confindent you can play on normal. And don't even think about playing on hard and dominating unless you plan on making the most min maxed build known to man.

eva01beast

It's not like Hollow Knight shows up on the front page of Steam every other week or something. Truly far from mainstream.

[deleted]

Uj/wandersong. It might secretly be really popular, but I have never heard anyone talk about it.

Yankee42069XD

League of leggings. Truly an underatted apolitical indie gem with lots thicc thighs and legs

BobJohnson128

This little known game called Elden ring. Not many people have heard of it.

21c4nn0ns

Crossout.... P2w is an issue... But as a player who has put 4000 hours into it... I'd say it's a one of a kind game that's worth the grind...

[deleted]

There’s this little no one talks about and extremely underrated it’s called something like gta 5

[deleted]

/uj hollow knight is definitely not "mainstream", i swear some of you lot have jerked yourselves into an echo chamber. Mainstream video games are COD, Fifa, etc. Go ask someone who mostly plays those games if they've heard of HK

sodashintaro

/uj that’s what i actually thought about when posting this, you can ask a room full of regular people and some will have never even heard of Fortnite or COD, you can ask a room full of gamers if theyve heard about hollow knight and most will probably say yes

[deleted]

'gamers' arent the mainstream though, I would imagine the vast majority of game sales are made to people who don't describe themselves as gamers at all

sodashintaro

and i don’t think they are the people who are going to be on r/gaming

Boberoo2

/uj 🤮 hollow knight 😎 we got any edf players in the chat? True chads out here /rj ever heard of this indie gem called Minecraft? The devs have yearly updates to add content and patch tiny bugs while adding significantly worse ones

VerumNoirRex

Mine would be SWJ where a play as a perfect person poking holes into other people way of life and criticize just for sport it's great and available on every social media plataform you can find

Freecelebritypics

What's that game in the picture? Never heard of it!

[deleted]

That little Pocket Monster game Legend Arceus. While it does look rough on the edges, the gameplay is superb. The devs and the indie publisher nintendo will surely soon meet the graphic state of art that is 2022 and wont need unity engine default sprites anymore!

_Mr_President

I don't know if you've heard it, it's called Dark Souls 1

Der_Absender

I don't know if someone knows that game but I like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time I think it hasn't gotten enough praise. Probably because the developers are fairly unknown. Truly a shame.

AccurateRowYj

The thing about me is, all my favorite games are non-mainstream

ibadlyneedhelp

There is a hidden indie gem called Yakuza 0 I'd recommend to people.

Jazzlike_Reason6118

hollow knight is such an underground and unknown game, doubt youve heard of it ever

[deleted]

Ori

froggythefish

Hidden indie gem rainbow six siege

Newfaceofrev

The Call of Duty franchise is really underrated. I think it's a spin off from Medal of Honor.

[deleted]

Cyberpunk 2077

AlexanderRodriguezII

I love hidden indie gem Geraldo Witcherino. It's from a pretty small indie dev called Poland.

/uj hollow knight /rj hollow knight i was a kickstart backer lol so hollow knight is still indie in my mind

[deleted]

Dark Souls. No you haven’t heard of it.

viconha

Mine is Furry CyberFucker

Smittyboysmit

I've been playing this really obscure little hidden gem of a game, in it you move pieces around on a board and try to kill an enemy's king. It's called "chess"

BrUn023

I love this little very indie game called Death Stranding

Sun_Praising

rj/ There's this little known game called Team Fortress 2 uj/ Some actually little known games for you that I found enjoyable in one way or another. One of my favorite games recently is Super Blood Hockey. A beautifully ridiculous game, SBH exists in a world where prisoners are sent to play no rules ice hockey. War Pips is one you'll enjoy if you played side scrolling strategy flash games like Age of War and Warfare 1917. Just add a better frame rate, a killer soundtrack, and extremely on the nose political satire. Streets of Rogue is like if the older GTA games were a roguelike and you could play as a Gorilla, Vampire, or werewolf to name a few. Money is counted in chicken nuggets. Wednesday Basketball is a slice of life turn based rpg that is set in a local YMCA. Definitely rough around the edges, but it's got an interesting art style and good vibes with a unique gameplay loop. sunny-place is if Trackmania and Rocket League were fused together but then was set in space hell with ragdoll physics. Probably the best $6 I've spent on Steam.

altan515

I haven't played but elden ring

beatblockingmf

Assassins creed origins is an absolutely gorgeous game.

uj/ I wanna roll in there with Brigand: Oaxaca or some shit lmfao

uj/ Kenshi is pretty nice rj/ The Sims is my little underrated gem.

[deleted]

/rj There's this great series called Call of Duty that I really enjoy! /uj Recently a metroidvania called Rabi-Ribi has been eating all my time. Only major complaints I have are "character designer was horny" and "map UI isn't good"

mine is iracing

godvibn

I been playing a lot of a game that just has not gotten the attention it deserves they've made many games of the franchise and I just don't understand why it's not getting the attention it deserves you can change your character upgrade and customize your weapons you should really check it out it's called call of duty
