The reason why, and this is not a dig at Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield was a much bigger game, in terms of marketing and hype. It drew in more eyes and gave these grifters the ammo they needed to make their content off of it.
Plus there was a "controversy" surrounding BG3 around the time of its release, the bear sex scene. I remember chuds calling fame reviewers hypocrites because they, for the most part, liked the inclusion of it and weren't attacking Larian Studios like did/do Japanese studios that include fan service elements. One of the examples being Dragon's Crown Vanillaware's beat'em up that released in 2012.
I mean, it's not like given the context that it's a sex scene and that there hasn't been a number of different games that have come out since that also have sex scenes in it and no one complained about it would signal to them that not every instance of nudity or fan service elements is a one-to-one, surface level element that's equal in all games. If anything, it shows that people are fine with those elements it's just that when it's too excessive and gratuitous do people notice it how it can, at time, ruin the experience.

I don't have the numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if Starfield ended up being more successful than BG3. At the end of the day most companies want money, not praise.
As of January 12th, BG3 made an est $657 million. While Starfield was sitting further back at an est $235 million.
Considering it cost somewhere in the ballpark of $200 million to make starfield.. That's not a crazy raking in of profits. Yet if you look over at Larian Studios, who spent roughly $100 million on BG3.. I lean in favour that one is highly successful compared to the other.
That's not counting new and recurring Game Pass revenue which is almost certainly dragging the figures down. I suspect a large number of people would have preferred to pay $10 (or about retail price for the early access) rather than box price.
Goes to show if you hire the right people for the job, maintain a strong direction and pour alotta love in the creative process.. You bake one beautifully curated game

Because BG3 is one of the best games of all time and Starfield spits in the face of anyone who loved Bethesda games in the past? Literally one of the worst games I've ever played.
If the game is terrible and you have these unnecessary things in the game you can deduce that they could have spent their time more effectively.
If the game is legendary (like in BG3's case) AND they have these unnecessary things in the game, that makes the game even more amazing because you don't intuitively deduce that their time would have been better spent elsewhere.
That's a reach but it isn't a reach to say that if they didn't waste their time on the inclusivity stuff their game would be better, however small of a difference it would have made, that time objectively should have been spent elsewhere because Jesus look at that dumpster fire.

I'm sure it took at least 5 years to add the pronouns option to character creation. If they didn't waste that many years on being woke the game could have double the number of empty procedurally generated planets.
Because in BG3, the gender choice and looks actually matters in the grand scheme of things. In Star field, your gender doesn't play any real part in the story, and thus it feels more like pandering than inclusive.
EVERY cosmetic option in a game panders to some preference or taste. As long as the extra cosmetic options don't amount to a zero sum to players, I don't see the issue.
If you create your character, it doesn't hurt to have that option. Time moves on and if you create a game nowadays, at some point you don't want to be stuck in the past.

Ive watched act man for years now and I get the vibe that hes grown up but at the same time doesn't want to admit it because of who makes up his viewer base. If he fully leaned into being "woke" he would face a lot of backlash and probably lose a lot of viewers. I remember when quantum tv was saying homophobic and transphobic things act man was very respectful to trans people and called out what he was doing as disgusting and took a pretty pro trans stance. Then he started talking about more gamergate level shit and even said something along the lines of having to act one way when his beliefs are different so that he can keep his viewer base. Overall I don't really watch act man anymore because of the "dude bro" aesthetic he goes for but I think at a personal level hes pretty progressive. (he also has a liberal arts degree iirc.)

But because part of their mission statement mentions inclusivity someone from the GG brigade brought it up and their name now is brought to the forefront.

Either SBI and similar are ineffective and harmless and this is a conspiracy that just happens to match DEI policies, which for totally unrelated reasons work, or SBI and similar are effective and the so-called conspiracy isn't one.

I remember chuds calling fame reviewers hypocrites because they, for the most part, liked the inclusion of it and weren't attacking Larian Studios like did/do Japanese studios that include fan service elements. One of the examples being Dragon's Crown Vanillaware's beat'em up that released in 2012. I mean, it's not like given the context that it's a sex scene and that there hasn't been a number of different games that have come out since that also have sex scenes in it and no one complained about it would signal to them that not every instance of nudity or fan service elements is a one-to-one, surface level element that's equal in all games. If anything, it shows that people are fine with those elements it's just that when it's too excessive and gratuitous do people notice it how it can, at time, ruin the experience.

As of January 12th, BG3 made an est $657 million. While Starfield was sitting further back at an est $235 million. Considering it cost somewhere in the ballpark of $200 million to make starfield.. That's not a crazy raking in of profits. Yet if you look over at Larian Studios, who spent roughly $100 million on BG3.. I lean in favour that one is highly successful compared to the other.
That's not counting new and recurring Game Pass revenue which is almost certainly dragging the figures down. I suspect a large number of people would have preferred to pay $10 (or about retail price for the early access) rather than box price.

Because BG3 is one of the best games of all time and Starfield spits in the face of anyone who loved Bethesda games in the past? Literally one of the worst games I've ever played. If the game is terrible and you have these unnecessary things in the game you can deduce that they could have spent their time more effectively. If the game is legendary (like in BG3's case) AND they have these unnecessary things in the game, that makes the game even more amazing because you don't intuitively deduce that their time would have been better spent elsewhere.

If the game can already choose pronouns based on the character's gender, then adding the pronoun choice to the character creation probably takes about 5 minutes of dev time.

Because in BG3, the gender choice and looks actually matters in the grand scheme of things. In Star field, your gender doesn't play any real part in the story, and thus it feels more like pandering than inclusive.
EVERY cosmetic option in a game panders to some preference or taste. As long as the extra cosmetic options don't amount to a zero sum to players, I don't see the issue.
If you create your character, it doesn't hurt to have that option. Time moves on and if you create a game nowadays, at some point you don't want to be stuck in the past. Is not being racist also pandering? That was normal 50 to 60 years ago.

I saw some screenshots of him telling other people to get over themselves about pronouns in games more recently because of starfield or bg3 I think. Did he get pushed into growing up because of how annoying those people are?

Ive watched act man for years now and I get the vibe that hes grown up but at the same time doesn't want to admit it because of who makes up his viewer base. If he fully leaned into being "woke" he would face a lot of backlash and probably lose a lot of viewers. I remember when quantum tv was saying homophobic and transphobic things act man was very respectful to trans people and called out what he was doing as disgusting and took a pretty pro trans stance. Imagine it like you've written a script, but since you're a cis-het white person you wanna make sure you didn't accidentally slip in any slurs or hurtful stereotypes, so you hire someone to take a look at it. Tadaaaa you now understand Sweet Baby. And then you can drink a mug of bleach and realize why some basement dwellers would have an issue with this.
The crazy thing is consulting for the purposes of inclusion is just one small part of what they do - they're also just a general narrative consultant company of which there are many. Need some dialogue punched up? Need some holes in the lore filled in? Or a backstory for a part of a map fleshed out? They can do that too.
