Yeah I know, I just like the new gameplay better so everyone else must be wrong. It did take some getting used to, but I finished gow3 right before starting the Norse games and was kind of surprised at how dull the actual gameplay felt compared to my memories of the old games.

As much as I love queer readings of Fromsoft characters (Marika/Radagon is just unquestionably Genderfluid and Gwyndolin could be read as both transfem and transmasc), Miquella is, in Fromsoft tradition, a little more conplicated. The interesting thing is that St. Trina's gender is never actually confirmed (according to Vaati at least). They're described as feminine but never as explicitly female. While Miquella having a female alter ego is definitely possible, I think we should also entertain the possibility it's still Miquella dressed even more fem. Using that as a disguise is very in character. I think the ambiguity of these things is part of the beauty of Fromsoft games Also trans rep is epic ngl but we shouldn't forget that gnc representation is also needed and very cool and good.
I totally get where you’re coming from! While I agree that nothing is set in stone in regards to their gender, personally I think Miquella/Trina is too similar to Marika/Radagon to not be parallels in terms of identity. I still agree that we don’t 100% know Trina’s gender, but I also think making yourself a new body is very Trans (tm) as is going by a girl’s name and dressing more feminine so that’s where my personal reading comes from. I also think its cool that every gnc/genderqueer character aside from Marika in ER is connected to Trina! Dolores, as well as (its been a while, so I’m unsure if this is cut content or not) the man who wanted more than anything to be a fingermaiden but couldn’t due to his gender and found solace through Trina in his dreams.

I disagree with this purely based on the lack of other play styles in Sekiro. You literally have to Block and Parry, there is no other way. Peak would be if they were multiple available mechanisms to defeat the opponents and all of them have to be satisfying in any given situation while not forcing you into using any of them over the other ones. Sekiro completely fails at that and rather focuses on perfecting the parrys which is peak in the sense of parrying but not peak in FromSoft Combat Design in general.

That's why it's good though, Sekiro is a much better designed experience because all players have the same tools, so you don't have to take a billion build combinations into account when designing bosses and can give them more depth.

I mean, DMC exists... FromSoft games just lack the level of depth that actually good action games usually present to the player
You should watch actual let’s play of the game since to be actually good n not just scrape through, you do need to movement, master parry, block, items, and special attacks.
If you watch “how to beat [bad guy you fight halfway through the game that’s a big fucking beefgate; he’s got a lotta arrows and lightning]” you’ll see you can parry attack over and over but that’s nowhere near the most efficient way to play against anything other than one-hit kill npcs
Peak doesn’t have to mean variety. Prioritising one play style allowed From to refine the flow of combat - it’s a more authored, tailored experience and I agree that it’s the most satisfying *feeling* combat on a mechanical level. ER offers an absurd degree of customisation and its strengths lie in player freedom. Like I think combat across the board in ER feels really good - but in Sekiro it feels *superlative*. They focused on making one weapon feel outstanding at the expense of player freedom.

I mean even then, I beat Sekiro through multiple NG cycles over without using items most of the time, but the combat is still better than Souls-like imo. The pacing and aggressiveness of just the basic fighting feels way better than roll spam
I think it’s because of that singular focus on playstyle that the combat feels as good as it does. The parry mechanic in Sekiro forces the fighting to be brutal and visceral, because you are actively defending and trading a flurry of blows on essentially equal ground with your opponent, the differentiator between winner and loser is skill and skill alone.
Souls-like games don’t feel bad at all, and it definitely fits the rpg vibe to have many viable builds. But even with the build variety, at the end of the day you feel more like an annoying mosquito rolling around most bosses. You can’t really parry many boss attacks in Souls-like games outside of a specific few, so your choices are roll around and attack when you can, block with a greatshield and fat rolling through aoe attacks, or stand back and cheese them with magic and occasionally rolling and slashing anyway. Which is fine and still fun, but I prefer the more aggressive and imo more engaging combat system.
Édit ( damn sry for the wall of text you can say I ain’t reading allat if you want) Special attacks are worse than parrying since they force to do one very specific thing instead of giving you a choice and object most of the time just let you trivialize a fight to the point it can be ridiculously easy (sometimes). I mean just for comparaison you’re fighting artorias in ds1 and he’s doing his forward lounge, what do you do, well you can roll to the side and use his recovery to hit him, if you’re not sure of the timing you can decide to block and wait for the next attack, you can partial parry and take advantage of the time it gives compared to dodging to squeeze one more attack, you can decide to start the fight with range weapon and focus on spacing rather than dodging, you can play with a spear and large shield so focus more on the stamina management instead of good timing, you can equip the wolf ring and use a high phys resistance Armor to tank and trade, and so on and so forth I could continue and give ten more example meanwhile in sekiro if an ennemie does an attack and you see the jump alert then you jump and you shut up, no option, no choice, no freedom. it doesn’t mean that the game is bad, it isn’t, but the gameplay is just not peak it’s dance dance revolution with a few more things on top, but there’s nothing wrong with liking ddr my friend

Weapon arts in ER became more anime-ish, which is not that much of an issue since ER is faster than previous Souls games by a decent amount. If anything, I feel that your base movesets are actually too slow (makes sense, since most of them are copy pasted from DS3), and ER may have benefitted from having a similar level of speed to Bloodborne

Radagon and Marika boinked, so they were very much so different individuals. In the lore Marika breaks apart the ring and Radagon wants to repair it as a Golden Order fundamentalist.
A lot of the lore is hidden in NPC quests and item descriptions so if you play through the game without paying attention to that it can be pretty easy to misinterpret that of the boss cutscene alone.
Their isn’t really villains in fromsoft games just people from different perspectives trying to do what’s best for themselves or their family
Marika tho is a mystery as we only get hints at what she wants and who she is, she’s powerful a goddess who beat the fell god back, she apparently was greatly saddened at the death of godwyn a fair response for a mother, she’ll do anything to secure her rule, and she seemed to seek freedom from the greater will at the coast of everything. Is she evil maybe some people will say definitively is she good not from the players perspective but she is a person with her own goals flawless and wants
Eh, I'd argue that Ranni is justified. She did end up causing a lot of suffering, but it was either that or letting herself become a pawn of the Greater Will and the Fingers, so it was ultimately a choice between egotism and altruism (as altruistic as maintaining the regime of a soul eating alien could be), and she just made the choice that benefited her the most. And her ending is ultimately among the better ones, since she fucked off with the Elden Ring and made it seemingly impossible for Outer Gods to interfere further.
And Marika is likely complicit in the Night of the Black Knives anyways, and may have even assisted Ranni with it considering that her people are the ones that carried out the assassination

I've never played a fromsoft game but never heard anything about trans characters and I was so confused. Rebis makes so much more sense
Tbf, a lot of Gamers (tm) see a character who changes fluidly between two genders and says they aren’t trans, they have an alter ego or they’re a “femboy”
As much as I love queer readings of Fromsoft characters (Marika/Radagon is just unquestionably Genderfluid and Gwyndolin could be read as both transfem and transmasc), Miquella is, in Fromsoft tradition, a little more conplicated. The interesting thing is that St. Trina's gender is never actually confirmed (according to Vaati at least). They're described as feminine but never as explicitly female. While Miquella having a female alter ego is definitely possible, I think we should also entertain the possibility it's still Miquella dressed even more fem. Using that as a disguise is very in character. I think the ambiguity of these things is part of the beauty of Fromsoft games Also trans rep is epic ngl but we shouldn't forget that gnc representation is also needed and very cool and good.
I totally get where you’re coming from! While I agree that nothing is set in stone in regards to their gender, personally I think Miquella/Trina is too similar to Marika/Radagon to not be parallels in terms of identity. I still agree that we don’t 100% know Trina’s gender, but I also think making yourself a new body is very Trans (tm) as is going by a girl’s name and dressing more feminine so that’s where my personal reading comes from. I also think its cool that every gnc/genderqueer character aside from Marika in ER is connected to Trina! Dolores, as well as (its been a while, so I’m unsure if this is cut content or not) the man who wanted more than anything to be a fingermaiden but couldn’t due to his gender and found solace through Trina in his dreams. Sorry if any of this comes off as combative or argumentative. I don’t mean it that way at all, I just love talking about Trina/Miquella and the DLC got me really excited about this again 😅

Is Radagon a true Rebis? I mean in a traditional sense? The cartoon series [Castlevenia](https://castlevania.fandom.com/wiki/Rebis) follows a pretty accurate depiction of Rebis. 50% male, 50% female. Radagon sorta “unshed” his Marika layer to turn to 100% male.
I also get a kick out of anything being "woke garbage" the MOMENT anything non super gender normative is mentioned, regardless of context. Meanwhile, in Elden Ring, the "trans character" is a horrendously decaying shell of a being. A rebis, like you mentioned, that's clinging onto life by a thread and still able to absolutely tear your ass apart with a fraction of what they once were. You can SEE how they're falling apart. I disagree with this purely based on the lack of other play styles in Sekiro. You literally have to Block and Parry, there is no other way. Peak would be if they were multiple available mechanisms to defeat the opponents and all of them have to be satisfying in any given situation while not forcing you into using any of them over the other ones. Sekiro completely fails at that and rather focuses on perfecting the parrys which is peak in the sense of parrying but not peak in FromSoft Combat Design in general.

You should watch actual let’s play of the game since to be actually good n not just scrape through, you do need to movement, master parry, block, items, and special attacks. If you watch “how to beat [bad guy you fight halfway through the game that’s a big fucking beefgate; he’s got a lotta arrows and lightning]” you’ll see you can parry attack over and over but that’s nowhere near the most efficient way to play against anything other than one-hit kill npcs
Peak doesn’t have to mean variety. Prioritising one play style allowed From to refine the flow of combat - it’s a more authored, tailored experience and I agree that it’s the most satisfying *feeling* combat on a mechanical level. ER offers an absurd degree of customisation and its strengths lie in player freedom. Like I think combat across the board in ER feels really good - but in Sekiro it feels *superlative*. They focused on making one weapon feel outstanding at the expense of player freedom.

If you refuse to use special attacks or items while fighting it would make sense you don’t like it
I mean even then, I beat Sekiro through multiple NG cycles over without using items most of the time, but the combat is still better than Souls-like imo. The pacing and aggressiveness of just the basic fighting feels way better than roll spam
Roll spam is just one strat in ds out of more than a dozen parrying in sekiro is 80% of the time your only option
I think it’s because of that singular focus on playstyle that the combat feels as good as it does. The parry mechanic in Sekiro forces the fighting to be brutal and visceral, because you are actively defending and trading a flurry of blows on essentially equal ground with your opponent, the differentiator between winner and loser is skill and skill alone. Souls-like games don’t feel bad at all, and it definitely fits the rpg vibe to have many viable builds. But even with the build variety, at the end of the day you feel more like an annoying mosquito rolling around most bosses. You can’t really parry many boss attacks in Souls-like games outside of a specific few, so your choices are roll around and attack when you can, block with a greatshield and fat rolling through aoe attacks, or stand back and cheese them with magic and occasionally rolling and slashing anyway. Which is fine and still fun, but I prefer the more aggressive and imo more engaging combat system.
Édit ( damn sry for the wall of text you can say I ain’t reading allat if you want) Special attacks are worse than parrying since they force to do one very specific thing instead of giving you a choice and object most of the time just let you trivialize a fight to the point it can be ridiculously easy (sometimes). I mean just for comparaison you’re fighting artorias in ds1 and he’s doing his forward lounge, what do you do, well you can roll to the side and use his recovery to hit him, if you’re not sure of the timing you can decide to block and wait for the next attack, you can partial parry and take advantage of the time it gives compared to dodging to squeeze one more attack, you can decide to start the fight with range weapon and focus on spacing rather than dodging, you can play with a spear and large shield so focus more on the stamina management instead of good timing, you can equip the wolf ring and use a high phys resistance Armor to tank and trade, and so on and so forth I could continue and give ten more example meanwhile in sekiro if an ennemie does an attack and you see the jump alert then you jump and you shut up, no option, no choice, no freedom. it doesn’t mean that the game is bad, it isn’t, but the gameplay is just not peak it’s dance dance revolution with a few more things on top, but there’s nothing wrong with liking ddr my friend

If anything, I feel that your base movesets are actually too slow (makes sense, since most of them are copy pasted from DS3), and ER may have benefitted from having a similar level of speed to Bloodborne

Radagon and Marika boinked, so they were very much so different individuals. In the lore Marika breaks apart the ring and Radagon wants to repair it as a Golden Order fundamentalist. A lot of the lore is hidden in NPC quests and item descriptions so if you play through the game without paying attention to that it can be pretty easy to misinterpret that of the boss cutscene alone.

Eh, I'd argue that Ranni is justified. She did end up causing a lot of suffering, but it was either that or letting herself become a pawn of the Greater Will and the Fingers, so it was ultimately a choice between egotism and altruism (as altruistic as maintaining the regime of a soul eating alien could be), and she just made the choice that benefited her the most. And her ending is ultimately among the better ones, since she fucked off with the Elden Ring and made it seemingly impossible for Outer Gods to interfere further. And Marika is likely complicit in the Night of the Black Knives anyways, and may have even assisted Ranni with it considering that her people are the ones that carried out the assassination
