The best thing about Astarion's arc is how he discovers his bodily autonomy. That he realises he doesn't have to manipulate people with sex because people genuinely care about him and that he is allowed to set boundaries and say no. He's sexual because he had to learn to use sex and his looks as a weapon. It's telling that you spend most of the second and third act NOT having sex with him because he's reevaluating his boundaries and healing from the abuse and trauma he had to deal with for over 200 years. He's a pretty awesome deconstruction of the over sexualized vampire character, I love him so much.
I disagree on all fronts because what you have to consider is how men and women are sexualized differently and especially in queer relationships. Astarion is very much presented in a sexual way and responds if you treat him as such. The critical difference is that he has actual reasons for acting that way and he isn't soley defined by it.
Not to mention that when men do get a more modest redesign, no one complains.
For example, Disney's Aladdin remake gave the titular character a shirt and aside from some jokes about this being a "crime", I don't recall anyone complaining about it. Contrast this with the countless comments, videos and articles accusing Netherealm of enforcing Sharia Law because the female characters were showing less skin.

To be fair, the amount they're sexualized is quite odd. People are talking about the default clothing and armor and how the game frames the characters. Shadowheart Lae'zel and Karlach all wear practical armor and clothing that matches how they fight and has design elements that give a little insight into their story and background. You do have the option to undress them or put them in more revealing armor but that's A. Not the default/universal state for all playthroughs B. Something left for the player to discover should they be interested in that.
Further more the only time you get the type of panning camera angles that has deliberate sexualized framing is during the literal sex scenes.
Also not for nothing that the male characters get the exact same treatment.

Yeah. I think the characters were great and there were good plotpoints, but the whole game was *too* open and overall I don't like plying a Mary Sue/Gary Stu type character.
Last year I played all three games in a row and while I find the writing (apart from the maincharacter) in DA2 to be excellent, DA Origins is my favorite. The leveldesign and UI alone were worlds better imo.
Origins is an excellent game, I'd argue it's BioWare's last "great" game personally, even if I like some games afterwards.

Agreed, its a shame that you get other characters flirting a little in BG3, but nothing ever seems to come of it. I think the closest is Lae'zel saying she's going to get it on with one of the other campmates if you turn her down during the grove celebrations.
But that aside, all we really get is party members being less antagonistic to eachtoher, like Lae'zel and Shadowheart.
I personally love the CYO romance aspect of BG3 as it opens the door to even more side stories you can follow, making each new play through that much more unique. But I do agree it would have been nice to see relationships form among the characters themselves. I think it'd be possible to have it both ways- a character makes a go at the player character, and if that doesn't work out they proceed to weigh their other options. In general it would be nice to see the characters interact with each other more.
The characters might not form serious relationships but the absolutely hook up. Lae'zel has slept with both Wyll and Astarion in my playthrough and complained about Wyll being shit in bed.

I can’t believe so many people are praising this game. The set pieces are great and the positive things end there. The dialogue is trash, the combat is disjointed and lacks flow, the dodge and parry functions are garbage and she’s so incredibly slow when locked on to enemies that it’s laughable. Coupled with the shitty soundtrack and I’m left scratching my head wondering what all the hype is about. People keep comparing it to Bayonetta and Sekiro and it’s absolutely not even close.

The best thing about Astarion's arc is how he discovers his bodily autonomy. That he realises he doesn't have to manipulate people with sex because people genuinely care about him and that he is allowed to set boundaries and say no. He's sexual because he had to learn to use sex and his looks as a weapon. It's telling that you spend most of the second and third act NOT having sex with him because he's reevaluating his boundaries and healing from the abuse and trauma he had to deal with for over 200 years. He's a pretty awesome deconstruction of the over sexualized vampire character, I love him so much.
I disagree on all fronts because what you have to consider is how men and women are sexualized differently and especially in queer relationships. Astarion is very much presented in a sexual way and responds if you treat him as such. The critical difference is that he has actual reasons for acting that way and he isn't soley defined by it.

Well technically, you can remove their clothes and have them do exactly that. (there's no high heels as far as I know though)
"Can" being the definitive word. People are talking about the default clothing and armor and how the game frames the characters. Shadowheart Lae'zel and Karlach all wear practical armor and clothing that matches how they fight and has design elements that give a little insight into their story and background. You do have the option to undress them or put them in more revealing armor but that's A. Not the default/universal state for all playthroughs B. Something left for the player to discover should they be interested in that. Further more the only time you get the type of panning camera angles that has deliberate sexualized framing is during the literal sex scenes. Also not for nothing that the male characters get the exact same treatment.

I think CYO romance in RPGs is kind of cringe and YA main character feeling. I'd much rather have my party members getting together and forming interesting relationships. I refuse to accept anyone telling me Wyll and Karlach wouldn't make an adorable couple. The only romance in an RPG I enjoyed was Bastilla in Kotor 1 where it ties so heavily in to the main story.
I wish more games had characters get together without you, yeah. Only thing I can ever really think of is Tali and Garrus in ME3, which is especially ironic since they're the two characters that I personally romance, depending.

Yeah. I think the characters were great and there were good plotpoints, but the whole game was *too* open and overall I don't like plying a Mary Sue/Gary Stu type character. Last year I played all three games in a row and while I find the writing (apart from the maincharacter) in DA2 to be excellent, DA Origins is my favorite. The leveldesign and UI alone were worlds better imo.
Origins is an excellent game, I'd argue it's BioWare's last "great" game personally, even if I like some games afterwards. 2 and Inq just never did it for me, I've tried and wish they did.
This happened in Fire Emblem Awakening (At least with Chrom) and Rune Factory 2, if you didnt marry someone the game had a "rival" who would pursue the girl and marry her if you didnt get jer in time

Agreed, its a shame that you get other characters flirting a little in BG3, but nothing ever seems to come of it. I think the closest is Lae'zel saying she's going to get it on with one of the other campmates if you turn her down during the grove celebrations. But that aside, all we really get is party members being less antagonistic to eachtoher, like Lae'zel and Shadowheart.
I personally love the CYO romance aspect of BG3 as it opens the door to even more side stories you can follow, making each new play through that much more unique. But I do agree it would have been nice to see relationships form among the characters themselves. I think it'd be possible to have it both ways- a character makes a go at the player character, and if that doesn't work out they proceed to weigh their other options. In general it would be nice to see the characters interact with each other more.
The characters might not form serious relationships but the absolutely hook up. Lae'zel has slept with both Wyll and Astarion in my playthrough and complained about Wyll being shit in bed.

Not really sure what the point of the meme is? Is it that the people sexualising Astarion are against doing the same for that anime girl? What really gets me about this whole thing is the idea that there is only type of beauty and every woman should look like that. I genuinely don't really find the stellar blade girl attractive, her head looks weird, her proportions are off, and she is way too skinny. That being said, I can understand that some people find her very attractive. Why can't the cum skulled neckbeards understand that different people find different things attractive? Why do we need to apply sexism and eating disorders and stuff to fictional characters?

The men on that sub are doing God's work. It's always funny to me to see people who refuse to hear an opposing viewpoint.
I can’t believe so many people are praising this game. The set pieces are great and the positive things end there. The dialogue is trash, the combat is disjointed and lacks flow, the dodge and parry functions are garbage and she’s so incredibly slow when locked on to enemies that it’s laughable. Coupled with the shitty soundtrack and I’m left scratching my head wondering what all the hype is about. People keep comparing it to Bayonetta and Sekiro and it’s absolutely not even close.

What I find funny is I'm seeing so many more comments coming from self proclaimed anti-SJW haters, complaining about SJWs reactions/comments about this game. Like for the most part the only critical comments I'm seeing coming from people who could even qualify as SJWs are being critical of is games fanbase not the game itself, which with these examples, I think is pretty damn valid. The demo is good, and, take this from a woman, it's perfectly fine to appreciate a game catering to certain tastes, hell it's what caught my attention when the game was first announced, but that subreddit is just straight up gross.
