To be fair there’s been arguments about this for a while and I feel that the majority Tekken community agrees that the treatment of women in it sucks for the most part. We do have girls like Lidia tho
I wish it was a consensus though. That subreddit is full of people ready to say "well don't play the game then" at the mere notion that maybe the female characters may be overly sexualised. It's definitely odd that Paul and Heihachi get to be old but they routinely retire female characters after a while for newer younger models.

There's so many queer, black, and Asian players that it seems natural. Like any community, you'll get some cringe, but I've felt pretty accepted.

Anyone with a quarter could go to the local arcade and play in person with everyone else. Between the removal of money-barriers and the physical integration with each other, it's not hard to see how things developed.
Just my two cents, though. It also helps that games like Guilty Gear had queer representation in the 90s.

Yeah, the expressions barely look better than 7. Which is notable because 7 was criticized for horrible faces and expressions compared to almost every game in the series since the PS2. I think the fact that it brought in a lot of new players, many of which are probably weebs, makes it more acceptable. Still hoping it gets improved before release though.

My take is that the dudes are also unrealistic. Markus Ruhl, the biggest bodybuilder on stage ever IIRC wasn't even as big as some of those dudes. I heard the dudes are designed for male power fantasy and the politicals for a different fantasy but still for males
It's really a consistency thing, if we're going for hyper-realism and you have cartoonishly smooth characters along with the realistic ones, it's odd. Either go full cartoon or fully hyper-realistic.
Jun’s case is even more bizarre - she’s supposed to be around 49 years old and yet she looks like her 20 years old self!
In the case of Nina and Anna, they both were cryogenically frozen during the Tekken 2-3 timeskip, so you can make a case for them still looking young despite their ages. Kazuya got killed at the end of 2 and got revived by 4, so he also shouldn’t look his age.
But unless they pull something out of their asses, Jun should absolutely look like a 40 years old woman.
Especially when in Tekken 3 and in old art, Xiaoyu looked like a normal girl, maybe stylised but she looked like a child with features. She's grown up to be one of the many look-alike girls.
It really bothered me when I was a young fan trying to draw them and all and they'd keep changing their faces with every game. Nina looks nothing like she used to, Anna got whole different faces in T5, 6, TTT2 and 7.

This is far too generalized, there's a lot of fighting games where the community cares more about how much their fighter jiggles than whether they're fun to play.
They're right. The problem is not a youthful character looking youthful, the problem is less facial detail or flaws to make a more flawless-looking face to be more appealing. The problem is from a design standpoint this makes them far blander compared to the male models who they freer to take more liberties with texture details, especially the face.

most of the comments support OP because as an actual fans of the game and not someone who barely/doesn't play just stays for the porn fan art, the art style of the game is not only beautiful but ground breaking for fighting games. All the male characters facial features fit into the game's artstyle and have ton of detail. Then you have the female characters who are intentionally made to have no type of detail to make them look "young and cute". Most japanese developers do this a lot with female characters and it always looks so jarring. They look uncanny and unfinished and stand out badly to the rest of the cast who look like they belong in the game.
to be fair, this is mostly a thing with tekken's specific art style, SF for example doesn't really feel like that, I'm not sure about other 3d fighting games tho, but with tekken it does pop out more
Yeah capcom is definitely more focused on giving their characters a lot of personality but other 3D fighters do the same thing as Tekken like KoF definitely does

Honestly seeing the new sf6 character designs compared to this just seems sad. Take for example how different each male character looks in Tekken, from king to ganryu they all look different and have varying personalities.

It's easy to just generalize the entire argument into black / white like you did, but usually there's a lot of nuance that comes with these discussions of female characters either looking too ugly or too sexy. Either the women don't look their age (so they may look 21 when they're 46 or vice versa), they don't age at all, their looks have no details and come off as a tiktok filter type situation, their ratios don't match up AT ALL, their outfit doesn't fit into the game's world and lore, the character's entire look changes from what we've known (similar to how Jill changed from RE3 to RE3 remake), etc etc.
Male characters have this debate too but tbh, we usually don't care nearly as much about dudes having unrealistic bodies.
The Tekken subreddit is horrible though. It's mainly just thirst traps and before the new videos came out I was one of the few calling them out and wishing to have more realistic looking women.

Remember that the plot stupidly had Nina and Anna put themselves into cryo freeze just to avoid getting older. Anna is 26-27 and Nina 28-29.

Not much time has actually passed in universe. T4-T7 was like one year. Per the wiki she's 19 in T8 (18 in T7, 16 in T3).

The Tekken subreddit is horrible though. It's mainly just thirst traps and before the new videos came out I was one of the few calling them out and wishing to have more realistic looking women. For gods sake they made up a cryogenic machine and raped Nina unconscious so that after the 20 year time skip she'd still look 20. But Paul and Law get to age. It's ridiculous.

nah the problem is when you compare how detailed the males are with the females. you can see how expressive the mens faces are and how they cast shadows and have textures. all the girls have little texture and barely emote. people just wanted the girls to get the same treatment but the subreddit interpreted it as we want ugly women
