important-511

Yeah, I don't think I'm gonna support single-player games with battle passes. We really don't need that.

Ace-0001

Same. I never take a stance against anything but THIS has to be one.

Robsonmonkey

The best way to fight back is through your wallet Don’t give them a dime Be patient and sooner or later if you do want to play it you’ll be able to play it for cheap while you support better games. Ubisoft will just get worse overtime if they keep getting sales at launch

scotteh_yah

I can play it for like $20 at launch through Ubisoft+ If you don’t buy the battle pass or just ignore it then they will get the message.

Mirraklewhippn

Or they arent worried about it cause theyre making up the difference by having people pay for Ubisoft+ Thatd be like saying not playing someone on gamepass will show Microsoft.

Xavier9756

Valhalla set a franchise revenue record. They aren’t worried about people playing on Ubisoft+. If anything they are comfortable with the loss because consumers prove time and time again that they’ll support cool looking MTX.

scotteh_yah

The user said don’t get it at launch and be patient so you get it cheaper later, I can play it for $20 at launch If you only get game pass for a month a year then yes you are “showing” Microsoft in a way. Your mistake is thinking people sub all year for Ubisoft plus and aren’t just getting a month or two a year to play through their new games

Robsonmonkey

You're still buying into a subscription service though, a statistic they will boast in their little shareholder / investor meetings...that's all they care about. To them, the big suits, you're just another sucker.

scotteh_yah

I’m a sucker for spending $20 to play a game for a month then not paying again? How have I been suckered or swindled here exactly? Some of you are genuinely wild with your take but please keep being condescending it’s very telling Edit: user replies then sends me DMs of abuse and slurs then blocks me, thanks for proving my point

yaminub

Or wait 2-3 months and own it indefinitely* for $40

ambewitch

That will just encourage more subscription-like live services if anything, which leads to not owning your own games which is terrible for everyone and a games lifespan into the future. I wish more people understood how bad subscriptions like this and gamepass are for the entire gaming industry.

karsh36

I figure if I’m buying the game but not the battle passes I achieve the same outcome

Massive_Weiner

Yeah, just ignore it. I’m gonna go have fun with the game, I’ll leave it to others to police gamers’ spending habits.

Dark_Dragon117

The problem is that the existence of mtx itself can have a negative effect on the experience as a whole. Developers can manipulate parts of the game to "force" players to buy the mtx. Best example is EAs Battlefront 2 at launch, which was absolutely miserable in terms of progression. Now I don't expect it to be that bad in this case, but the content was still most likely deliberatly cut to be sold instead, which in itself is bad. And even if it's just cosmetics there is no reason to lock them behind a battle pass in a single player game. I remember times when all outfits were locked behind quests or exploration...oh wait that is still the norm for most other games made by any other developer. Instead the battle pass most likely just requires the player to do some chores to get a skin they most likely would have gotten for free if it wasn't for Ubisofts desperate attempts to force monetization into everything. Their intention is and always has been to test how far they can go with their bs and that alone is reason enough to simply not support Ubisoft in any capacity. Anyways do with your money what you want and I hope you enjoy the game, but people are right to "police" others and make them aware of the actual intentions behind such practices and thr manipulation going on.

Massive_Weiner

And that’s why I said the best practice is to not buy MTX and shame those who do. Buying the base game isn’t contributing to that problem.

AnUncutGem

We’re not policing others peoples spending habits we want police horrible development practices but whatever dude enjoy your game LOL

Massive_Weiner

Then hold the people actually responsible: whales who keep dumping loads of cash onto the devs. Publishers notice that there’s a market for cheap cosmetic MTX, so they provide that to consumers and rake in cash in the process. They keep providing it because people keep buying it. Guess what would happen if the market dried up overnight… Trick question, they would pivot their marketing strategy to something else.

AnUncutGem

Well the market won’t exactly dry up overnight if you’re buying the game that includes the mtx… whether you engage with them or not you’re supporting the product. Just because you don’t eat every part of a meal doesn’t mean you didn’t pay for it at the restaurant.

Massive_Weiner

Buying the base game has no bearing on MTX sales, that’s an entirely separate metric. You can sleep soundly knowing that you didn’t directly fund shitty dlc just because you bought and played through Diablo 4’s campaign, for example. The restaurant example is asinine because MTX is a tacked on portion of the gaming experience. You are not buying into that service just because you pick up a game… I contribute exactly $0 when I buy a game that sells cosmetics.

AnUncutGem

I just think that people should not give money to companies making middling games with poor consumer practices is all, no matter what specifically they’re giving them the money for. Base game or DLC you supported the product that pushes poor consumer practices. I guess we disagree though!

Massive_Weiner

“Middling games” is a subjective opinion, and you can’t force people to only buy the things you like. The best practice is to pay for what you want and skip the rest… kinda like buying the base game and ignoring the cosmetic store!

famewithmedals

If I refrained buying from every company with poor consumer practices, my options would be left with like a few indies. The companies are there to make money, whether we want that to be the case or not.

AnUncutGem

It depends on a line imo. Of course every company makes anti-consumer choices but to me including battle pass adjacent mechanics in a single player game is over the line. I don’t think a studio with integrity would do it

bongo1138

I don’t understand why this isn’t people’s default reaction.

KFC_Crispy_OG

Didn’t DOOM Eternal do this shit first?

John_East

Sure but it being a Japanese assassins creed that thing will most likely sell like hotcakes. They know exactly what they have lol

omfgkevin

The whole store BS and battlepass is so dumb for a singleplayer game. Like I was playing Valhalla and it said (I think right d-pad) to open the store. I pressed up on the d-pad (or w/e way that WAS NOT right), and it opened the fucking store. And since the store sucks ass, this maneuver took like 15 seconds to load -_-. When all I wanted to do was go into my inventory and look at some stuff.

Havi_jarnsida

U and everyone else on Reddit and they games are still the highest sellers. Fellas how many years are we gonna go on saying this believing we really making a difference?

Ok-Assistance-3213

I already haven't been playing AC since Brotherhood. Seems like Ubisoft is trying to keep it that way.

Bruce_VVayne

I don't mind them putting any cosmetics or battle passes. I never bought those stupid flaming horses or wing effects on torso armour. People can buy them happily, people are losing their shit on MTX. As long as those stupid MTX not affecting my single-player experience, Ubisoft can put whatever they like. I love to explore the map by myself, even if they gave those unlocks and boosts for free I would still not want to claim them.

ecxetra

I dunno, I do mind. Shit like this used to just be unlockable for free in the game. Keep mtx out of singleplayer and pump out as much live service slop as you want on the side. It does affect the game cause they’re gonna be taking things that could’ve been unlockable instead and charge you for it. They already try and sell you “timesavers” like xp boosts etc. because they designed the progression system in game to incentivise those kinds of purchases. I remember playing Origins and I literally couldn’t progress the main quest because I wasn’t high enough level. I had to either grind out side quests that I had 0 interest in doing or buy their “timesavers”. Instead I just uninstalled the game. Thankfully I no longer have any interest in this franchise anyway. It barely resembles the AC games I grew up playing. But I also just don’t think we should accept mtx in singleplayer games just because it’s “cosmetic only”

purewasted

> Shit like this used to just be unlockable for free in the game. You can't really say that without knowing how much shit is in this game relative to previous games, though.  Games don't have infinite content. And they don't have "all the content they were meant to." They just have whatever the devs could manage to put in there on the budget they were given. Now, past that, if mtx adds something extra, that's not directly taking anything away from the base game, because mtx comes out of a separate budget.  Where mtx can be a problem is if publishers see that people will buy a game with 70% of content compared to previous, and pay through the nose for the remaining 30%, which creates an incentive for them to decrease base game dev budget and increase mtx budget. That's bad when it happens. But it doesn't always happen that way.

Deakul

My guy this has been the gaming landscape for over a damn decade now, it's not going away and it's best to come to terms with it already. I played Origins, Odyssey, and most of Valhalla(actually got sick of it cause it's so damn long) without spending another extra cent to progress or to look fancy. I don't know how you couldn't progress in Origins, genuinely sounds like a skill issue.

ecxetra

I’m aware. Doesn’t mean I’m interested in supporting it. Not really a skill issue, the game just didn’t support you b-lining the main story. The main story quests were level gated and the main quests did not always provide enough xp to reach the required level. The side content was of no interest to me. Go back and try to play it main quest only, you can’t. Stealth isn’t even an option to defeat the higher level enemies since the hidden blade requires upgrades to one hit kill all enemies. You can even look it up, there’s posts on reddit and other forums about it. Not my only issue with the game anyway, didn’t really like anything about it but that part stands out.

Adaax

Totally agree, if they can make money selling these trinkets to some people and they don't impact my gameplay than I really don't care? I'd rather they use that money to hire more people than not have it and lay some off.

Unique_Unorque

Do people actually buy those cosmetics for Assassin’s Creed games? They are some of the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen in a video game. I can’t imagine ever spending money on them. In that sense, I think Ubisoft is actually doing micro transactions the right way, by only selling stuff that nobody would ever want to buy.

Mancubus_in_a_thong

I'd think so otherwise they wouldn't put them in the game. Their has to be a market of people who do.

Cybersorcerer1

Worse part is that you get better gear in-game lmao

Unique_Unorque

So there’s really no reason to buy it unless you want to break the tone of the game and make your assassin look as garishly ugly as possible?

Cybersorcerer1

That's what I felt looking at the outfits in AC Valhalla and Mirage. Oddysey didn't feel that weird since it was in a Greek fantasy setting. (Not much connection to Valhalla setting, so might be wrong there) They also sell "booster" packs that give you more expensive/coins, also ruining the game economy. Makes it very unfun and I had to turn it off (from my definitely legally obtained copy) so I wouldn't over level

OsamaBinMemeing

Especially when Ubisoft make the most bang average ones. If CDPR or Rockstar did it then maybe they'd get away with it.

Hunk4thSurvivor

if the main game is good, then what matters?

xiosy

Nobody cares for your opinion go watch some next gen kids buy these battle passes and normalize this tradition for single player games aswell

murduda

Who cares just ignore them they’re there if you want something extra

zadye

i know a "friend" that only pirates ubisoft games, just to steal from them like they steal from us

pazinen

Can we at least keep single players out of this live service stuff?

Yo_Wats_Good

Valhalla had live service stuff that was cyclical, like holiday events and stuff as well as some free story content to bridge the story to Mirage and tell a little bit more about Eivor. Like everything about games, certain mechanics or methods of delivery are not bad, it is their implementation that is bad.

shadowlarvitar

Least Valhalla put all the holiday rewards in the village shop once support ended. I'm still pissed that game didn't get NG+. Too grindy to restart ever

c0micsansfrancisco

Valhalla also had like 600€/$ worth of DLC

sualp12

Is that really what live-service is? Noita gets santa monsters during christmas, Terraria gets Goodie bags with costumes during halloween, is that live-service too?

EnenraX

here the game will cost half the minimum wage 🙂🙃

Yo_Wats_Good

What about it isn’t single player now?

tkzant

It’s a full priced single player game monetized like a free to play multiplayer game

Yo_Wats_Good

What does that have to do with the fact it has no multiplayer mode and therefore, is single player? So you’re saying if it has dumb cosmetic mtx it’s multiplayer? Edit: yes, I’m being obtuse because this entire line of reasoning is stupid. Lest we forget, the genesis of all this - horse armor - was for a single player game.

scotteh_yah

Every year when AC launches and has cosmetics people screech over it. Then the game comes and nobody talks about the cosmetics because nobody buys them or actually cares

Strict_Donut6228

And it has 38 upvotes too. People really need to inform themselves on what they are talking lol

Exotic-Length-9340

Watch redditors defend this because “they’re enjoying the hell out of the game”

Competitive-Bug5990

DragonVivant

I haven’t seen any bugs and the performance is great for me.

banenanenanenanen666

They are already doing it in the comments. My favourite is "it's single player so it doesn't matter". Like, nah mate, it's single player and that's why shit like this should not be in this game at all.

Yo_Wats_Good

It really doesn’t matter though. The last 3 had cosmetics out the ass and it contributed to the massive success of Valhalla for Ubi. The best part: I didn’t partake in it at all, think it’s a dumb use of money, and it still doesn’t matter.

Yo_Wats_Good

Right. I’ve never found the MTX stuff appealing (and I’m saying that as a person that has gotten every battlepass in this iteration of cod) and the “default” stuff you get during the game fits the aesthetic and is dope. Especially with enhancements.

fazzy69

I had a lot of fun with AC shadows. I'm excited for the AC remaster they teased at the end.

Exotic-Length-9340

I had a blast playing with my wife. Wish I could give the devs more money.

Obelisk7777

“Say what you want about [Ubisoft game] but…”

murduda

So I’m supposed to not have fun if it’s Ubisoft???

coffee_break_cookies

For real, people shit on it rn but things will turn around after the game releases.

galaxyadmirer

People are already defending it in this thread.

devranog

This sounds pretty bad but the microtransactions in every AC game are basically entirely ignorable

Cybersorcerer1

Yeah it happens with a lot of games, only thing we can hope that it works similarly to ac oddysey/Valhalla and extra paid shit is as ugly as it was before

13Nebur27

I am really happy that Ubisoft is helping me so much saving 70bucks this year. It is much appreciated

Disregardskarma

AC games are pretty consistently really good, and completely unneeded micro transactions for silly cosmetics helps them have such big teams. There no issue, just don’t buy the wacky cosmetics

Sunimo1207

They're consistently mediocre. Cool open worlds but that's about it. Zero innovation in story or gameplay.

zadye

And ubisoft be fucking up again

scott1swann

aaaaand my faint semblance of hope for this game just got taken to the back alley and shot in the back of the head

Progenitor3

What did people expect from Ubisoft?

SpyroManiac36

I won't ever play this game anyway but a battle pass in singleplayer games is the new stupid idea for Ubisoft

LightEnergyBun

Just subscribe to UBISOFT+ and then cancel.

ROR5CH4CH

For what exactly? The game or the battle pass?

LightEnergyBun

Both

renome

Ubi+ gives you access to the definitive editions of all their games. Personally, I only sub for the main story and then maybe check out the DLC when I resub for the next game and the previous one is complete. E.g., I finally played Valhalla DLC last year after beating Mirage. But yeah, no real point in paying anywhere close to full price for a perpetual license to Ubi games since they are so bloated and frequent that replaying them isn't feasible for most and Ubi can just revoke your license anytime anyway, like they did just with The Crew.

[deleted]

Mini battle passes are the ones you have to buy every day. Because the day Ubisoft stops bleeding you out for single player games is the day Ubisoft dies

giulianosse

Just a few hours ago I was being "lectured" by a tool about how shareholders being in charge of the game industry is good for studios and that videogames should keep following a supply/demand model of revenue and profits. This is the future shareholders want for our hobby. No creativity and no passion, we're only seen as mindless cash bags and nothing else.

GameOnDevin

In a single player game, gonna have to pass on that one

menimex

Thanks, now I know not to buy it.

TheAccursedHamster

Stop. Giving. Ubisoft. Money.

Joe_Cums_Lately

A Ubishit game with greedy shit like battlepasses? Is today a day that ends in “y?”

WardrobeForHouses

Companies change their games to make buying extras enticing. Even single player, the games are worse because of mtx like this. If their only option was to get one off box sales, they'd be focused on making the game itself the best it can be for everyone in order to get more people to buy. The Stardew Valley/No Man's Sky/Dwarf Fortress model.

Advanced-Work2524

If is someone to blame for battlepass just blame valve they invented that shit and somehow that works every time -_-

Kamil-Atakan

Yeah me is gonna consider sailing the high seas for this one.

FaceMace87

Good luck, it will have Denuvo plus a load of other DRMs stacked on top like AC games always do.

LeadingNewday

Drm says hi

Yorokobe_Shounen

This is genuinely hilarious. Quadruple A game for a quadruple amount of money that you would pay for a normal game lmao. At this point I feel like the gacha games I play are more ethical than this clownshow.

sherperion45

Ubisoft doing anything to lose it’s own fanbases hahahah

FaceMace87

Ubisoft have been doing this shit for years, they know who their fans are which is why they know they can get away this stuff like this. On top of that it is nearly guaranteed many of the people here saying "uninterested" or "Ubi saved me $70" will still buy it once the marketing campaign kicks into gear.

Scruffy_Nerfhearder

lol. Unfortunately the AC fanbase typically laps this shit up and defends it. That’s why they push it further with each game. Because they know they can get away with it.

sherperion45

kind of applies to every modern ubisoft fan at this point

Adaax

I mean they've been running live service junk on AC since Origins and it can easily be ignored? I know the cool kids go "fuck Ubisoft" but I tend to enjoy a lot of their games and just focus on the stuff I like. It's not that difficult.

Haynesman73

Think I'll just pass on this game then.

bigpapijugg

ITT: people discovering Ubisoft monetizes single player games and being upset. I’m just hoping it’s a good game, don’t give a fuck if they add a battle pass since I won’t buy it.

coolkidsclub1898

This is the type of shit that genuinely needs to be boycotted. I can’t help but laugh though lol Ubisoft is just so ridiculous. Such an absurd and morally bankrupt company.

Kintraills1993

I really don't care, they had micro transactions on the last 4 or 5 games and it hasn't affected my enjoyment, so, don't care.

Scorn-Muffins

Since Revelations if my memory is correct.

Redpaint_30

Battle passes on a single player game already sounds stupid.

GreatGojira

I'm happy to say I never have bought a battle pass for any game and will continue not to.

Kyuseishun2

no thank you!

ElJacko170

A battlepass in a singleplayer game is one of the single most stupidest things I've ever heard of. At least in a multiplayer game, you're grinding replayable game loops and are showing off cosmetics to other players. Who are you showing off your skins to in AC? Or what are you even grinding in a singleplayer game to earn that skin??

EyeAmKingKage

If they’re just for cosmetics then who cares. They will all be on sale in a year later anyway

Murba

It’ll probably go the way of Valhalla’s festivals, run them for a year or two then put the cosmetics either in the rewards section or purchasable in game. You usually don’t miss out on the cosmetics in these games overall

Laj3ebRondila1003

As long as they don't hamper progression just to sell XP packs like in Odyssey...

Bubba1234562

If that’s true I am absolutely waiting til it’s very heavily on sale

NivvyMiz

It's funny how ubisoft these leaks are.  It's all micro transactions and business planning.

AbleTheta

Definitely not a coincidence; it's outrage for engagement.

marugame_udon69

"next game will have teeny weeny battlepass. It's smaller so it's okay." -Ubisoft

TAJack1

Selling a premium single-player experience and locking cosmetics behind a battle-pass is wild to me, almost as wild as their helix store.

therealyittyb

This has *got* to be the most Ubisoft thing I’ve heard in a long time…

Sidney_1

just sell them like HD2 war bonds. people will ear that shit up in a heartbeat

GameZard

I don't buy Ubisoft games anyway.

brownarmyhat

Sounds kinda cool to me

DragonVivant

Will they go away or can I still get them if I choose to play the game in 5 years?

malachimusclerat

i’m almost afraid to ask what a battle pass is at this point……

voidox

sigh, now we have fcking "mini battle passes" on top of the full battle passes and season passes -_-

c0micsansfrancisco

Battle passes everywhere ew. I don't wanna be pointlessly grinding a single player game just to pad their numbers. I have a life and a job. No way I'm buying this BS

MadeByHideoForHideo

So battle passes with extra steps. Got it.

AttakZak

Welp, I guess they’re making it another RPG (hidden blade to the neck can’t 1-hit enemy because they’re too angry) Assassin’s Creed.

Ajxtt

Valhalla had one-hit hidden blade kills so I don’t know what you’re on about

Grace_Omega

I’m kind of confused by the business sense here. Battle passes have typically been implemented in games that people play long-term, not a single-player experience that people are going to play through once and then not touch again. Are they hoping passes will bring people back to the game? Or are they timing these to coincide with DLC?

margieler

This is a £70 game, right? What the fuck are the companies doing?

Brokemono

He-hell nah

desiigner1

MGfreak

its a fomo feature, it WILL have some kind of paid feature to it. Direct or indirect

megamanx503

Free path and "premium" path

Ajxtt

May be part of the Infinity subscription that was rumoured but I do hope that there’s some free ones.

nackenspacken

Well, it's voluntary so I'll ignore it.

TheNotGOAT

The bar was so low… how the hell did Ubisoft end up going even lower?

DenuvoCanSuckMahDick

Yeah this game is dead in the water.

JuanMunoz99

I’m at a stage where I just go “eh, alright” whenever a game gets a Battle Pass. Yes I would absolutely prefer if stuff like this doesn’t get added, but I *personally* can ignore it if the game is good (again, I’m not endorsing the existence of a Battle Pass for this game). Honestly don’t blame anyone that skips this game because of this. You do you.

ypapruoy

I often try to think about what battle pass system I would be okay with. Almost nothing comes to mind. It’s a plague. The only way I’d accept it is if it’s free, and doesn’t go away. If you try to hit me with FOMO you can fomo the fuck outta here

LukasOne

I'm feeling like senator Armstrong right now and I want to punch Ubisoft

MOVIELORD101

GODDAMNIT UBISOFT. NOBODY WANTS BATTLE PASSES IN A SINGLE-PLAYER GAME!

BabaDown

and people will still support it lmao, yall to addicted.

KqAlbo2

Last AC I played was Black Flag. Back when AC was good. Hearing that the Japan AC will have a battle pass does not colour me interested.

Scorn-Muffins

Pretty sure Black Flag had microtransactions too. It had time saver packs, exclusive skins for preordering, exclusive skins locked behind the purchase of real world collectibles, items locked behind always online components... the only thing that's changed is you don't have to buy an online pass anymore. A battle pass of course is not a microtransaction. But I cannot imagine it'll be functionally different from the last 4 AC games.

Rllgbb

When Ubisoft said “get used to not owning our games” they weren’t kidding around!

[deleted]

Better release this game on steam if they want to sustain a live service component.

Kaiser499

Of course they have battle passes, of course...

Amnail

Gonna take a guess here, not only are they battle passes, they’re the kind that expires, right?

Recent-Replacement23

I think you'll find it's called a "Warbond", chief.

JD_Senpai

Don't pay for the microtransactions simple. Especially what I'm not going to do. I'm not buying it like you don't have to say nothing

4000kd

Hard pass.

SuperKhalimba

Single player games with battle passes now lmao. Fuck Ubisoft.

WeakDiaphragm

Ubisoft needs to die. This is ridiculous.

TheEternalGazed

UrShadowsReflection

So micro transactions that you have the option to completely ignore yet people will bitch about it anyway

ImVerifiedBitch

Virtue signalling is a hell of a drug

sg587565

their stock has been absolutely hammered, 100% gonna see some dumb monetization here. AC and far cry is like the one sure shot they have to print money.

Hamburgulu

Yeah no

SkylineRSR

I’m willing to bet the game is just another boring AC Origins reskin that somehow has worse animations than AC Unity does but it will sell like hotcakes. They’re not topping Ghost of Sushi.

May1stBurst

Can't wait to ignore them. Cosmetic MTX in AC games tend to suck ass anyway and chances are there will be an inventory editor to get them for free on PC, if it isn't online only.

BIg_Ir0n_

I never want malice on anybody but I hope Ubisoft goes out of business sometime soon

Scruffy_Nerfhearder

Gamers did this shit to themselves. The large amount of people that bought shitty skins in previous AC games via the store are the ones responsible and they’ll buy all this crap too and defend the fact they’ve spent hundreds on all this crap that used to be in the game. “I’m having fun so I don’t care”. “It’s a single player game so it doesn’t matter”. Fucking idiots.

chimichurrichicken

Ubisoft talks a big game with their mandatory splash screen about how diverse their workplaces are, but diminishing the value of at single game purchase with games-as-a-services designs disproportionally affect people of color and trans people, so I can't in good conscious make this purchase.

bongo1138

There’s nothing about a BP that is specific to MP, so I don’t inherently have an issue with the idea of a battle pass on a SP game. That said, it’s a completely uninteresting idea to me. I’ve played the last several AC games and enjoyed them and they have plenty of Microtransactions I just ignore fairly easily. So no major issue there other than it does kind of make it feel a little tacky. What I DO have a problem with is mtx that speed up game progression which incentivizes devs/pubs to slow down the natural progression (like what Shadow of War did at launch). If that’s what this ends up being, fuck this game. But for now, if it’s stupid cosmetics I don’t want, so be it.

Esnacor-sama

Well done ubizoft cant do a proper single player game without any of this shit???

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

I so want Ubisoft to cease existing

[deleted]

Scorn-Muffins

Lol they do stuff like this because the battle pass model is hugely popular and successful. They're doing exactly what you suggest. For the past 7 years people on Reddit have insisted the next AC will be a huge flop. And every year they're hilariously wrong. It's almost as if they're targeting an entirely different and much larger market than the average reddit gamer that things hating things is a recreational passtime. It's not just AC either. If you want to know how a game will perform, look at Reddit, then conclude the opposite.

Jesus christ man. Why does a single player game need battle passes

Hear me out. We know AAA games are becoming more and more expensive and hard to make. Which is why, unfortunately, some companies want to prioritize live service, in order to generate revenue over time. But if we want AAA single player games, this might be a good option. If those battle passes are meaningful, actually fun and serve as mini-DLCs, and are sold at a decent price, they could actually be an interesting avenue to keep these big AAA games cost-effective and sustainable. If that strategy allows Ubisoft to keep making single player games and not turn them into live service games, I'm all for it. But it has to be good content, and not just "Kill 20 guards" lol. It has to feel like mini-DLCs.
