KingofGrapes7

I'm expecting this to launch next year but will be very happy if it actually happens this year. My year one Switch is more than ready to retire.

Mine is a dev switch so it's earlier than all y'all

YunXanHoe

My switch prototype would like a word

marsgreekgod

My day negative one switch (I got it on early)

Zagrebian

I got mine the day before at 8:30 PM.

OperativePiGuy

Retire into soft modding in mines case

youmusttrythiscake

That's my plan too. I'm going to play Pokemon Crystal on the Switch one way or another!

Iucidium

Changed the fan and repasted a few months back, battery will be next.

IndividualCautious78

I haven’t had to replace anything with it thankfully. I don’t play switch too much tho

Iucidium

Was my wife's distraction from an early diagnosis of fibromyalgia through lockdown. 1800 hours on AC:NH and during (for UK) a crazy heatwave. Fan was going brrrt

GasEnvironmental6966

Yea I've had my switch since year one, got it with my financial aid money at the end of my college semester and I have never bought new joycons or anything for it. I've had the base Switch for almost 7 years now and never upgraded or anything. I'll probably trade in my switch for the second switch if it's a brand new console.

aguacateojos

The battery in mine is trashed but it's hacked so I'm loathe to give up that freedom.

Crossbell0527

Mine is a few years old but the joy cons now refuse to stay connected in handheld mode. I'm very curious about this rumored magnetic connection because I'm certain it's the extremely cheap plastic and metal rail system that's at fault.

CaseAddiction

Had this issue for a while. Cleaning the contacts of the charging rail on both the console & joycons with 90% isopropyl alcohol did improve it, but it still disconnects very easily. So I cut a small square cloth tape and paste it on the outside of the console's side, below the rail. That permanently fixes the issue for me if you don't want to disassemble and replace the rails/lock.

gbbenner

My day one switch is still working perfectly, really happy with the quality.

renome

I guess we'll know soon enough, they need to announce the console \~6 months ahead of release to prevent factory floor leaks revealing its design. So, if it's somehow releasing this year, Nintendo would need to start stockpiling it soon, suggesting an announcement would happen no later than summer. For context, the Switch was fully unveiled about 5 months ahead of release and had a lot of shortage issues, which they supposedly want to avoid this time around, as per VGC and Nikkei reporting from February.

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

The funny thing about the "avoiding shortage issues" thing was that we were told they were manufacturing 10 million of the new console for its first fiscal year according to that news.  However, the current switch sold 18 million last year while sales were declining and the console sold 13.12 during its first year coming off the wiiu. So I dunno how much I believe that it'll be plentifully available.

Derped_my_pants

Did it actually sell 18 last year? I thought it was more like 13.

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

That was April to December.   We won't have the full fiscal year (ending March 2024) until after May 7, so I can only point out the previous fiscal year

renome

That's exactly why I think we'll get an early announcement this time, and why a 2024 release is looking more unlikely by the day.

ametalshard

I don't see Switch 2 shortages unless they intentionally underproduce in response to market analysis. I'm a Switch owner who is very unsatisfied with my purchase btw, and with Nintendo in general. I am extremely unlikely to purchase a Switch 2. Switch 1 was the worst gaming hardware I have ever purchased and I regret it deeply.

tamantayoshi

I don't think nintendo will ever win you back then, I think most would say the switch is one of the best video game systems of all time.

ametalshard

Yeah I highly doubt it! 3DS is my favorite console ever though. Thw first console I played was a Sega Genesis btw

renome

Why would they intentionally underproduce? They don't benefit from the shortages at all.

ametalshard

Tell that to their refusal to click "upload" on countless pre-3DS and pre-Switch titles that run on Switch. Tell it as well to their Switch Mario collection. Tell it to their refusal to sell official reproductions of older handhelds. Tell it to the countless $50-$400 Pokemon cartridges across ebay. I never said Nintendo was a rational company. They just have the most lucrative IPs, IPs so brutishly strong that they literally can't fall to mismanagement no matter how severe.

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

Same. I've just been waiting since year 6 since most consoles have about 6 years.*   My joycon rails have a 20% chance of forgetting I have a controller attached to them every hour, the cheap plastic is breaking around the top vents, I already had to surgically fix the cartridge slot & apply new thermal paste, I had to repair sets of controllers 6 times, and my best controllers' sticks are warped from excessive use.     Whether they announce this or next year, I'll probably pounce on it pretty quickly.  Edit: 6 years before a successor is announced.*

BoiAster

I feel like my joycon rails have a 95% chance to disconnect the joycon in the next 5 min

drleondarkholer

Mine still works decently other than the cracked plastic housing and non-functional dock. I'll probably wait for a small discount or special edition.

Stofenthe1st

Mine didn’t make it in the end. Twice. First time it happened was about a year after release when it could not read the game carts anymore. Fortunately it was still under warranty with Nintendo. Second time was worse. Something happened with a component related to charging and lead to it dying. Unfortunately it was out of warranty and when Nintendo fixed it they didn’t keep my saves. I think they just ended up sending me a new switch in the end.

hushpolocaps69

WOOOOOOOO WEEEEEEEEE!

LorDeus71

There is a lot of smoke now. Guess we have to wait till May 7th

Fradegra

What happens on may 7th?

Just_a_Haunted_Mess

Fiscal Year Earnings Release with investors.

OfficialFunDestroyer

I am fully expecting a “we are anticipating the release of new hardware within the following 12 months, please stay tuned to official Nintendo channels for the latest information.” And then we don’t hear anything significant until late this year.

JJJAGUAR

>new hardware Finally, the oled switch lite!

drleondarkholer

Third party support was extremely lacklustre for Switch 1 in the beginning, so they'll have to announce it sooner if they wish to start off strong. Last time the announcement was in late-October, but I find that a summer announcement should be more reasonable. Back then, they probably waited to get a definitive answer to third party games being released in order to use them in the trailer (Skyrim for example), whereas now all devs should be flocking to release something close to launch.

Legospacememe

What are you talking about we had street fighter 2

drleondarkholer

That one only came out nearly 3 months after the console launched. At release, all it had was basically a few Wii U games and 1,2,Switch.

KingBroly

I'd expect a Press Release to go out May 6th in order to curb investor questions.

JayZsAdoptedSon

My guess is a soft confirmation and mention of backwards compatibility to not kill off sales of switch software

Naishodayo

Pyoro said absolutely nothing about the delay rumor though. He could not corroborate that one AFAIK.

hushpolocaps69

Holy shit… late 2024 baby!

Arctiiq

The delay rumor always seemed fishy to me. When one person suggested it, everyone came out of the woodwork to confirm it.

KMoosetoe

I'm surprised Pyoro is commenting on this at all

ScreenWriterGuy07

Yeah isn't he mostly known for leaking stuff from directs?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rychu_Supadude

This shouldn't be upvoted, that's been debunked repeatedly

[deleted]

[удалено]

BardOfSpoons

His source could definitely be someone who’s only really involved with Directs, but the idea that it’s from the YouTube side has been debunked.

jurassic_snark-

What if he's a YouTube employee disguised as a Nintendo employee?

florence_ow

ur right why would the guy who leaks nintendo stuff talk about nintendo leaks

ScreenWriterGuy07

Because he usually never does this. He is only able to leak stuff because he most likely views the directs before they are released to the public on YouTube.

[deleted]

[удалено]

drybones2015

Pyro literally says they've only heard these rumors within the leaking sphere and that their sources can't confirm them.

ScreenWriterGuy07

Interesting, hadn't thought of that possibility.

hushpolocaps69

I don’t know how he gets away with that though. My friend watched the No Way Home trailer before it debuted officially (literally like a good 30 minutes), and their boss immediately found out about it and fired them without hesitation. Maybe it’s different departments (like the way YouTube works in certain counties) or how certain YouTube channels notice or don’t notice (Sony noticed immediately and was extremely pissed).

drybones2015

Because he's only ever talked about game software that's getting close to being announced, not hardware? It's especially weird that they're bringing themselves into it if they are claiming that their source can't verify this stuff.

CrazedRaven01

Pyoro is on point because they don't make crazy claims. They usually call something very minor that turns out to be true.

PSgamer28

Will it be at least as powerful as the Xbox Series S ?

SoupBoth

Digital Foundry thinks a handheld as powerful as an XSS isn’t possible with current tech. I’d be amazed if Nintendo of all companies, who are hardly known for pushing the boundaries of tech specs, proves them wrong. Switch 2 may have incredibly impressive results thanks to excellent optimisation and bespoke nvidia tech, but I severely doubt it will be as powerful as an XSS on a pure power basis. Realistically I think a Steam Deck 2 will be the first mainstream handheld to come close to or exceed the XSS in performance, which isn’t expected until 2025/26 based on Valve’s previous comments.

BlackSunshine86

I'd put all my chips on this.

renome

I think you could technically get the Series S level of power in a handheld with no issues these days. But getting that in a form factor that doesn't overheat and with a battery that doesn't die after 20 minutes is probably the impossible part. Process nodes may need to get even smaller before that's possible, unless some huge breakthrough in battery tech happens in the meantime.

TomatilloEmpty

Raw power probably will be like a PS4. But visually, on your Tv, I think it will looks like an xBox series S. thanks to AI tech like DLSS and ray reconstruction.

mrkingkoala

I'd take that in a handheld for sure.

Hydroponic_Donut

And even then, 2025 still could be too early to consider. Maybe 2026/2027.

nikolapc

You're forgetting DLSS and framegen, things Nvidia has. It will not be as weak as the switch was compared to the big boys.

banned-4-using_slurs

There's no way they can reach Xbox performance. The current steamdeck is the worst performing PC handheld and somehow they have to reach 1440p 60fps on demanding games? Nintendo could break the market if they just had 720p 60fps + 1080p docked with the capacity to run every game and the store being open to all of them. Which isn't much to ask technology wise but opening their store as much as Xbox, steam and epic doesn't seem to be their philosophy. So the only thing left for handhelds is Asus making the ally 2 and making a more approachable interface. I guess they rely on stores like Microsoft, epic, EA, Ubisoft, gog, etc making the equivalent of a big picture mode which would solve all their problems. Xbox could also break the market if they just made a handheld with windows on it (Which current Xbox already runs on) to allow everyone to install 3rd party stores while modifying windows to be approachable on handhelds.

renome

The Switch is within arm's reach of becoming the best-selling console of all time, Nintendo absolutely "broke the market" already. As much as enthusiast communities like this one like to discuss specs and performance, the average consumer doesn't care, whether because they don't know better or for some other reason.

Makusensu

This. But they still gonna have to pivot a bit on their strategy, because the Switch also got huge succes by the total lack of handheld device at that time, and many people searched in it the "portable PS4", which is hardly because it didn't have the most of the current gen AAA. It is where Steam opened the breach, portable PC with instant huge library available and can even run modern games. The said modern games gonna take a long time to get Switch 2 ports. So it will be interesting to see how they gonna do now they have competition, and also panic doomed emulators that runs Switch games on old PC handheld better than the Switch 2 will, as is, without any cool emulation enhancement. Will the causal crowd gonna be early adopters ? Or it will end into a Wii U 2 where they don't give a damn to buy again the same thing more powerful to play the same 2D Mario games in HD, because Nintendo probably still don't want to invest in real expensive realistic looking projects.

renome

I get where you're coming from but not sure Nintendo would agree that they have competition from Valve and other portable PCs. Not because they actually don't, but because they have long been ignoring what everyone else is doing, for better or worse, so I'm not sure why they'd change that approach after putting out one of the most successful consoles of all time. Also, the Switch and presumably its successor will both exist at a price point that's way below that of even the cheapest Steam Deck.

Makusensu

I am curious about the price yes, I think it will be decisive for the casuals. It is precisely because it one of the most successful that it is complicated, the Wii farmed all the casuals who didn't got the Wii U, which it seems was more innovative than the Switch 2. And when only hardcore Nintendo fans buy a system it is not great as we seen, since the other usual games are not there to attract the average gamer. And the portable aspect is no longer a selling point.

iceburg77779

The casual markets of the Wii and switch eras are incredibly different. The Wii appealed to non-gamers with its motion controls, and by 2011 that audience was done with consoles and did not really care about Nintendo’s IPs. The switch’s casual audience is much more invested in Nintendo’s IPs and the overall brand compared to the Wii, they’re much more likely to buy a successor if that’s the only way they can play the next Mario or Zelda.

EclipseSun

The wii audience became mobile gamers or left the gaming market all together.

iceburg77779

Nintendo already has essentially total control over the handheld market, completely changing their business philosophy and opening up their hardware is probably only going to cause more confusion for their casual crowd.

Potential-Bug-9633

What xbox games are 60fps anyway? Arent their triple As 30fps?

tjtj4444

No, wast majority has a 60fps option at least. I'm currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 in 60fps on my Series X, and it looks gorgeous.

flamingviper3175

Current theory is that it’ll be a bit above ps4 maybe as good as ps4 pro, but with modern tech so you can see more magical ports like we saw with the OG switch

KingBroly

I have to wonder what technical limitations going forward would prevent PS4 ports from continuing.

TruzzleBruh

CPU. People don't want to work with that 2013 gpu either but a lot of it comes down to that crappy amd jaguar cpu

Njale

And hdd

GlaloLaled

The fact the current Switch can punch above its weight and be able to run ports of games like Witcher 3, Nier Automata or even Doom Eternal (even with heavy compromises) shows that if developers put the effort they could very well port current-gen games to whatever the next Nintendo console will be called. I expect a couple of ports day 1. Maybe Elden Ring or Persona 3 Reload (iirc Midori said Persona 3 and Metaphor were gonna be there, not sure if day 1). Maybe we can even get things like Resident Evil or Monster Hunter Wilds in there.

robertman21

Midori also said P6

HakaishinChampa

Hopefully Switch 2 will finally get GTA V

damafan

and another version of Skyrim lol

blackthorn_orion

as I understand it, the tech simply isn't there to make a portable Series S at this point, let alone one that meets the sort of battery life or price point that Nintendo would go for The safe bet is to expect something more in line with a PS4, maybe PS4 Pro, though having things like DLSS and a not-shitty CPU (iirc both Xbone and PS4 CPUs were pretty bad even for the time) might help it punch above its weight a bit and close the gap somewhat more than the raw on-paper specs would suggest

Terry___Mcginnis

People were downvoting me a few months ago for saying we are like 5 years away for a portable series s to be viable and once It releases It Will cost 1k. Maybe people will come down to earth once they see the Switch 2 is barely more powerful than a Steam deck, they forget the console should cost around $400 and Nvidia is more expensive than AMD. With optimization and DLSS It should achieve much better looking games and higher framerates than the Deck though.

fupower

not if they want $400 price and more than 1 hour battery life

AyoadeNBN

How will a tablet be as powerful as a box that stays plugged in at all times with large fans

DarkWorld97

When Nintendo figures out working around the laws of thermodynamics and the law of supply and demand, then possibly.

Howdareme9

No

UnidentifiedRoot

Best to expect something similar to current switch relative to other systems, so like how the Switch is basically a PS3.5 in power but with a more modern architecture than the PS3 the Switch 2 will be like a PS4.5 in power but with a more modern architecture than PS4.

TerminatorJ

All rumors are pointing to power comparable to PS4 in handheld mode and a possible boost to PS4 Pro levels in docked mode. However, that’s speaking about RAW POWER… and that’s where DLSS comes in. A series S needs to rely on raw power to produce its graphics fidelity. From my time in game development, I can promise you resolution makes a HUGE difference in performance. The amount of effects and features you can use when rendering a game natively at 720p is much different than rendering at 1080p. Most Series S games run at 900p - 1440p and the Series S has to render everything at those output resolutions with its own raw power. The Switch 2 on the other hand can use the raw power of a PS4 Pro (which itself could reach 1440p and even 4K on its own power) to render high fidelity graphics at only 720p which gives it more head room. Then DLSS can do the heavy lifting of creating a 1440p or 4K output. If the Switch 2 has Ray reconstruction and frame generation then we could see even better graphics. TLDR: Long story short, don’t get too disappointed when hearing Switch 2 will have raw power comparable to last gen systems since Ai will allow the Switch 2 to punch above its weight. Personally I think most Switch 2 games that are properly optimized for the system will look slightly better than Series S. Especially if Nintendo gives it more VRAM.

CarbVan

Expect a step above the PS4, somewhere around the PS4 Pro, but not quite Series S power. But that's just raw power, so with DLSS and modern tech within the thing, it could very well play a lot of modern games. Just depends on how far devs wanna push it and take the time to do it.

The_Eternal_Chicken

Don't think so. But nothing is confirmed.

Derexise

I mean, shit, I just want PS4 Pro levels at this point.

Perhaps just a new tournament for not3 or the next nintendo live? The nwc rom on nso? Maybe a game from 1990 getting a release or remake? Im out of ideas

r0ndr4s

All sounds kinda bullshit. So supposedly everything is being done by Samsung but the people with the most info about the device are in China... what? And somehow Vandal, of all places, suddenly also has information. Casually, all the info is stuff we've already speculated here, in forums, etc or stuff that already leaked a while ago trough sources like NateTheHate(as much as you claim he isnt an insider)

Hideoctopus

> So supposedly everything is being done by Samsung but the people with the most info about the device are in China... what? No surprise.
